.On first looking at these drives from the outside, there isn't a lot to look at with the drive. It's a 3.5-inch form factor SATA drive that isn't much different physically from the WD Green or WD Red products. The WD Purple hard drives offer low power consumption and advanced performance features usually only reserved for enterprise-level storage and are optimized to withstand the demands of always-on digital PVR, DVR and NVR recording environments. With ATA streaming support, WD's `AllFrame' technology helps to reduce video footage loss and to help improve data flow and playback. The only only other HD maker tailoring a drive for this market is Seagate,

I bought this to replace a 1TB Seagate Surveillance HDD which came with my CCTV system that was sticking and causing my DVR to freeze or reboot! ...never had any luck with Seagate Drives ever since I built my first PC - I've found the Infant mortality rate to be too high as they concentrate on speed, not quality - maybe I'll put it in a caddy, hook it up to the router and use it as a NAS. This 3TB has maxed out the capability of the system, and it's quieter than the drive it replaces and uses less power, so it runs cooler. It'll record from 3 cameras @1080P for at least a month before it begins overwriting. I'm now tempted to install a 4th camera I kept as spare. Expensive,

Quiet and hopefully reliable HD. From past experience dealing with WD has always been a pleasure. Hopefully their Purple range of drives will prove equally as reliable as others I own. As noted at least with WD I draw comfort from their great after sales support and returns.

Well, it's still working, relatively quiet and in constant use. Have 5 x AHD cameras connected on A CCTV system and this drive performing great Cooling fan on the system is working hard but I suspect the chipset is causing the heat more than the drive.

I bought these to go in a HikVision NVR alongside some external cctv cameras, they've been running non stop for several months now without fault and have not reason to doubt them given the reviews online. A great choice for that sort of media...

Purchased for a CCTV system, installed without any issues and has been working tirelessly ever since. Runs quietly and haven't had any issues at all, was a decent price and easily recommended for any surveillance system.

I have had this running in my recorder for my cameras for the last 2 months with 4 cameras running it last about 3 weeks on record 24/7 then it records over the day one recordings and so on. recommended.
