I've had this mat for about 4 months now. The mouse was an instant success with my 9 week old kittens, they spent hours stalking/pouncing/tugging the mouse and every time it bounced back on the elastic I think it made them more determined to grab hold of it. They didn't, however, seem interested in scratching the mat. Like the other reviews say, the mat is very light, a bit floppy and moves around a lot on the floor but I soon realised that this wasn't the problem. My two are vertical scratchers as evidenced by them attacking the dining room chairs. In defence, I tied the mat to the back of their favourite chair with some string and...problem solved! They now scratch the mat instead of the chair! On the down side, the mouse isn't very well constructed. Within a few weeks the mouse had been completely skinned, the kittens had even managed to bite open the plastic shell and remove the small stone inside that made the mouse rattle. From a safety perspective, if your cat is as enthusiastic about the mouse as mine, it's probably a good idea to remove the mouse if it starts to look a bit worse for wear.Overall I still think it was a good purchase as the mouse was fun while it lasted and the mat is still doing a sterling job of protecting the dining room chair.

One of my cats has learnt that she can get our attention by scratching carpets, particularly at 3am, 4am etc - previously to alert us to intrusion by someone else's cat, but now when she wants a different food, to play, or just because she is up and thinks we should be as well.Whilst we have loads of scratching posts in the house (and a favoured piece of old oak just outside the back door), she is not as agile as she once was and chose to use the carpet instead. I therefore decided to try a variety of scratching mats to see if we could break the habit and they seem to have done the trick. The scratching area is well constructed, framed by a fur trim with a fabric-backed underside to help avoid damage to whatever surface this is placed on.It can be fixed to a wall (screws supplied) if required. This mat was not as good as another (larger) one that I bought - I prefer (Sorry; Pip prefers....) the Tough Large Cat Scratching Mat Plush 70×45 cm Dark Brown. This one is a little on the small side and also, because it is lighter, tends to move around when the cats scratch. The mouse is a hit however, so if space is the deciding factor, this one should measure up.

I was bit worried after reading some other reviews commenting on the size and that it moved around. I decided to go for it anyway, I have four cats and as soon as I took it out of the packaging they were all sitting around it trying to play with the mouse. They started using it as a scratching mat within the first hour. I have other scratching posts etc which are never used or which they took a while to start using, but this was an instant hit. Unfortunately the mouse was chewed off pretty quickly, but that happens to every item I buy with a mouse or something hanging on it. I know who the culprit is now but I can't stop her, there are chewed off mice all over my apartment! I didn't find the mat moves around,I placed it on carpet so I don't know if that helped. I put it as you come in the front door, and most of them use it now which I love as before they would constantly be pulling at the carpet there. Also I didn't find it too small, and I love the soft beige trim, I find it looks great and am very happy with it, especially as I wasn't even going to get it, and its half the price of another one I bought at the same time and they use it more.

My cats use it all the time. I've got smart cats though so I can't vouch that all cats will use it. I've got two cats and the larger one uses is just about daily. The smaller one not that often and prefers to scratch my expensive rug but I'm sure this is down to the larger one being the dominant one in the house as I also have scratch posts and this is no different. Larger cat uses these as well.Having scratch posts and mats like this is important for cats for getting rid of any weak claws in the event they need to run up a tree, for example, to escape danger.More than a year later all I can say is both my cats still use this scratch mat. I have it secured so it is slightly under my television stand so my cats can't move it.It is scratched so much it is showing signs of wear so I will definitely buy another. My two cats, and even neighbours cat, use pretty much daily. Lasted a lot longer than a scratch post as well so far.

So I ordered this scratch mat and a scratch pad on a roll. Arthur has chosen the pad on a roll as his (handy to lean on for a rest!) and Serena is more than happy with this more elegant scratch mat especially as she doesn't have to share it with 'him'. What's more I'm happy as I not only have 2 happy cats (even though it won't stop the wallpaper being shredded) but also because it looks good in the room without being as intrusive as some of the more elaborate climbing frames. And is it seems to be quite robust it should prove to be good value for money as well.

My cats are in the habbit of clawing at my carpets so i bought this scratch mat to try and deter them, i attatched it to the floor at the top of my stairs (2 tabs attatched and 2 screws) for you to secure it if you want to and they love it. It is well made and doesn't look out of place and i am pleased to say it does the job, it comes with a small bag of cat nip grass to so within seconds of sprinkling that on the mat, they were on it happily scratching away. I would recommend this to cat owners.

My cat loves this Cat Scratching Mat With Toy and sat on it and played with the toy immediately it was delivered. The Scratching Mat is cream in colour with a soft golden brown-coloured edging and has a soft golden brown play ball attached to it. It has a black PVC non-slip backing for floors and I have put the Scratching Mat in my kitchen near my cat's food bowls for her to play on. The Scratching Mat measures 21" x 13" and is ideal for a pet cat. I was very pleased indeed with this purchase.

Within seconds of unwrapping this item, one of my cat's (a Male) was straight on it, the other two had to wait their turn. Buttons (A female) does not usually react to anything with Cat Nip in or on it, even she was impressed. Poppy (my baby) thought the other two had gone 'Potty' even though she does sit on the mat, it's the other two who have really taken to this Toy Mat.I would certainly recommend this item, it's money well spent, and anyone who has cats, knows how fussy they can be.

We tried so many different things to get the cat to leave the sofa alone, and this seems to have finally -- FINALLY -- done the trick. I popped it under some table legs to hold it in place, and he just goes to town. We've only had it about a week, but it seems quite sturdy. It is smaller than I was expecting based upon the accompanying picture -- naturally, I didn't bother looking at the measurements in the description -- but that actually works out far better for us anyway.

My re-homed 14 year old cat does not know what a scratching post or climbing tower is for, she doesn't even know how to play and get into cat mischief. Added to this Millie has many extra toes with claws and Horns on her pads, which may be the reason why. But thankfully this scratching mat has come to her rescue and made life a whole lot better for her. Apart from sorting her toe nails she likes to lay on it and really calls it her own making her a very happy old lady.

I have various anti scratch things and scratch posts for my Cats and this one they do use, a different one I reviewed was/is hugely successful, but with this mat, easily placed where they had taken to my horror using a newly carpeted area, this did detract from the carpet, with the help of a little catnip spray, it is often used as they pass it. I am happy with it. They don't use the attached ball but a kitten may. :)

This is a nice little mat with good scratching facility as well as mousey to play with! Bought to take in caravan as takes less room than a post....but cat still learning to use this alternative...if we had bought it first would have been fine at once I am sure. Sticking with it....and she does like a tussle with the mouse. Good quality and came with screws and tabs in case you want to fasten to something firm.

I love the look of this mat - have placed it in front of the cap flap and the floor stays clean and it stay pretty well in place. More importantly the cats love to use it for scratching, and haven't been scratching anything else in the house. A good tip is to spray a bit of catnip on the map to get the cat(s) started using it if they're not excited to start with!

my cats absolutely love this scratch mat and had fun with the cat nip, i bought 2 different scratching things to take the attention away from my new sofa as one of them had scratched it to death and i have to say surprisingly and touching wood he has not touched my new sofa so completely over the moon, well done

This is great!! Sturdy, good edges, plenty of scratching space in middle. Can be fixed up vertically, I didn't as she'd already scratched walls, so we leave it on the floor. Is bit narrower than a small size door mat.Ball toy attached, surplus to requirements really. Good product indeed!! My cats use it.
