One of my cats has learnt that she can get our attention by scratching carpets, particularly at 3am, 4am etc - previously to alert us to intrusion by someone else's cat, but now when she wants a different food, to play, or just because she is up and thinks we should be as well.Whilst we have loads of scratching posts in the house (and a favoured piece of old oak just outside the back door), she is not as agile as she once was and chose to use the carpet instead. I therefore decided to try a variety of scratching mats to see if we could break the habit and they seem to have done the trick. The scratching area is well constructed, framed by a fur trim with a spongy underside that I presume helps avoid damage to whatever surface this is placed on.It can be fixed to a wall (screws supplied) if required. This mat is the best of the ones we have tried out. It is a good size and of reasonable weight, which means that it does not move about when a cat decides to scratch. The ball on a spring has been largely ignored, but my cat now scratches on this mat instead of the carpet and yesterday indicated her full acceptance by sleeping on it (whilst also asserting her ownership, of course, so the other cats had to go elsewhere). She seems to be a lot happier since we got this mat and the night time scratching has stopped - so we are a lot happier as well!

I ummed and ahhed over what type of scratching product to buy for the cat who is gradually destroying the carpet on the stairs. I finally went for this one because I thought it would suit him more than a post as he definitely seems to like scratching at floor level. It comes with some cat nip so I sprinkled a small amount onto the mat and he has been mooning over it ever since. Firstly he just seemed to lie on it and generally rub his face into it but after a couple of days I began to see him use it for its intended purpose. I can't say the stair carpet is never scratched as a consequence but it happens much less frequently. He doesn't play with the spring toy at all though and i do feel it is slightly on the expensive side for a piece of sisal mat but as much cheaper than new carpet it is still worth it! Also glad I went for this larger size as the cat is large and this has enough weight in it to stay put.

I would not go so far as to say I loved it as I have had no reason to use it. However, Simba, 14 year old Siamese cat, certainly seems to enjoy scratching it which he does with gusto and with no wear or tear to the pad. I did not sprinkle cat nip on it, as other users suggested as he does not care for catnip and indeed I gave him no encouragement to use it all. At first he ignored it and it took careful, exploratory investigation by him before he worked out the reason it had been laid down near to one of his feeding bowls. I did encourage him by saying 'Good boy, on the first occasions I spotted him using it and now scratching it has become one of his daily routines. If and when it wears out I shall purchase another one.

This is a good heavy weight mat and after spraying it with catnip spray Harry took to attacking it and not my carpet, he also loved giving the ball on the spring a proper thrashing. Purrfect result.Unfortunately within 24 hours he managed to remove the soft ball from the spring pole leaving a bare sharp point for him to potentially hurt himself on. Not so perfect. The ball does screw back on and as long as I check it daily, tightening it when needed we have been okay.Overall I like this mat and the ball on spring is very popular with Harry, just be aware you have to maintain it to keep it safe.I could remove the spring and ball but seeing how much Harry likes it I just make a point of checkingit instead.

We have very powerful big boy living with us who is a house cat. Although he is big and powerful he is a pussy cat! ( pardon the pun ) I shudder to think what we have spent in the past on scratch mats that would be destroyed in a matter of days maybe sometimes a whole week!! this product is the cats whiskers ( sorry another pun!!!) We have had it since before Christmas and he has tested it to the point of no return. We have had all the walls he has scratched in the past replastered and redecorated which is a boon. The scratch mat is still in good condition even after all the punishment it has had.To similar cat lovers I would certainly recommend you buy this product now!!!!

Product is great quality, heavy and rugged. I was worried about the attached toy as I knew my cat would not be interested in it. It was in the package and required to be screwed in to the attached screw hole. I therefore didnt attach it.My cat has not paid any attention to it, instead prefering to scratch the carpet next to the mat. However, if she did decide to scratch on the mat I think she would be able to scratch away to her heart's content and not move it, or destroy it.I would recommend this mat as I think it looks great, and can save carpets/walls from being destroyed (if the cat chooses to use it that is even better!)

Great product, lovely size!! I previously bought a cheap mat to replace one we'd had for 9 years - and it was useless, a total waste of money - lasted 24 hours. You get what you pay for with scratching mats - and this is just fantastic. Stanley scratched it immediately (after I had given him a demonstration). He uses it all the time and it is heavy enough not to lift - and looks attractive too. Connie just likes to lie on it (to annoy Stanley) she has never used any mat and prefers the carpet immediately to the side of the mat. Please don't get a cheap mat - its false economy - pay the extra and get one of these. Recommended!

I have 3 cats and they have a tendency to scratch the stair carpet until almost threadbare, I've had to replace it twice in 18 months. Thought I've give scratching mat a go before I replaced it again. Purchased this one and they love it, if they're not sitting on it they're using it for the purpose intended. Excellent product May have to purchase a 2nd one to stop the bickering. Also bought a smaller mat at the same time, that one is great for the smallest of my 3 cats.Definitely recomment. A++

With 2 cats that like to sharpen there claws while have a good ol' stretch on the carpet we knew we had to get something they would prefer to use, having purchased many different cat scratching products I can honestly say this is one of the best and most hardy we have in the house, it really takes a battering and yet shows no sign of wear and tear. We will be buying another this year as a Christmas gift for our cat loving friends. Well worth the money especially when it saves the carpet.

I bought this due to one of my cats taking a liking for playing with my carpet and loving a scratching post. She doesn't seem to have worked out what to do with the scratching pad yet but enjoys sitting on it! My other cat who is larger and has never managed to use the scratching post due to his size and the fact that he's older and less agile, however, likes it! It seems well made and hard wearing. I just wish it came with a video that I could play to demonstrate to the cat!

everytime our cat used her scratch post it kept falling over. plus she likes to scratch the carpets. i thought it would be a good idea to get her her own scratch mat.she does use it but not as much as i thought she would. she still prefers to scratch my carpets and not her own.she doesnt play with the toy attached to it, but this doesnt mean its no good because evey cat is different. do not be put off with what my cat doesnt like because yours might like it.

The mat is as describe and has been the best item I have brought in a long time! The cat has now stopped scratching everything and just uses her mat! It's quite heavy so doesn't move across the floor. It's has taken a pounding by the cat but still isn't showing signs of wear.Thank you :b you have saved my furniture!

With two 7kg active male cats you can't expect that a scratch mat will last for long. But this one seems to go against this rule. After almost two months its like new. Both of them are using it. Actually it seems that they stop scratching other preferred places(sofa). It's the best one I bought until now.

Good solid indoor mat that doesn't move around.Cat a bit suspicious of it for a few days, then suddenly starting using it, and now he has a right good claw at it a few times a day, and will often settle down on it for a while.Despite the regular cat attacks the Mat seems to be holding up very well.

Although the carpet scratching cat I brought it for still tends to ignore it, as soon as it got unpacked and put out my other cat who occasionally scratches the carpet immediately took a shine to it. So it does the job as long as your cat isn't too stubborn to use it!
