The long awaited sequel to the hugely successful PS-one series has finally arrived on the Playstation 2, and its possible that this game may just match the hype. From the moment the introductory video and titles roll to the sound of Motorhead's "Ace of Spades", THPS3 oozes class. The game starts out in a skate shop, where you can create a skater, customise a board or simply just play using Tony Hawk himself, or one of the many other default characters. As before there is the option of free skate, but it's the career mode most seasoned veterans will head straight for. The basic gameplay of the career mode is the same as the previous games: each area has a selection of goals to achieve (high scores, collecting S-K-A-T-E etc.) the achievement of which unlocks extra boards, levels and features. One new innovation to the gameplay is that the goals on certain levels are now tailored to specific skaters, e.g. some levels may better suit a skater who is good at grinding. This is implemented through each player having a list of attributes, such as balance and hang time. These attributes can be boosted as you progress through the game, which helps greatly on the latter levels, where the score targets especially do get tricky to beat. One of the much-hyped new features of THPS3 is the "revert" trick, which allows combos to be continued after landing on a vert ramp. It is now possible in theory at least to have a continuous combo throughout an entire level, making for some very high scoring games. This feature works well, although speaking as someone new(ish) to the series I am still busy mastering the basics. Aside from the odd nip and tuck, the gameplay is essentially the same as in the previous games. The levels are large and very well designed; themed around very diverse locations, such as a steel mill and a suburban street complete with its own haunted house! The levels look gorgeous, and move quickly and smoothly along regardless of how complicated the action gets, which all adds to the frenzied feel of the game. Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 is indeed very impressive, and when you add a soundtrack ranging from Metal to Hip hop, Create Skate park modes, network play and internet play, Tony Hawks 3 looks set to be one of the biggest hits of 2001. If there were anything I would have liked to have seen, it would have been a more cinematic replay facility, rather than simply a behind the skater view. With the replays being my only niggle (and I really tried to think of a negative), there is no reason not to recommend THPS3 to anyone. Buy it if you can, or else pester your nearest and dearest and get it for Christmas!

The tony hawks series always evokes a reaction from me. I remember on the PS1 playin a little bit of THPS and THPS 2, my memories of the Bullring final medal competition on THPS2 and how I had to perfect each combo on the massive half pipe but THPS 3 was the first big release on the PS2 and was a contributing factor in purchasing the console (along with GTA3).I recently rebough this game second hand a bargain at £[], after booting the game up on my PS3 and with a bit of upscale smoothing I can truly say this game is still standing the test of time. I ripped straight in to create a skater, a common game mode nowadays that lets you customise your own skater, including body, hair, facial hair, hats and other clothing as well as your skateboard, after this I went straight to the first level - Foundry. The game plays very smoothly and after 4-5 runs I was starting to nail the big combos and linking the reverts with manuals (ahh it all comes back). Then after this blasted my way through the other levels such as Canada, Suburbia and Japan (not including all the levels) to finally medal and unlcok the massive cruise ship.It didn't take too long to complete each levels tasks but I am now going back looking for stats and hidden skateboards. This game was riding the peak of the THPS series, a peak that has never been reached again, I have Underground 2 and Project 8 but they don't compare and the latest ones, what are they, Ride..... I don't know ignore these, what you need to play again is THPS 2 on Canada or Airport level and blast some Ace of Spades or Fight Like a Brave.....Love it!!!

After long anticipation the arrival of THPS3 did not disappoint. If you liked THPS2, or even THPS1 but always thought: this is not the button I pressed, and why can't I do these manuals..I am pressing up/down, then hurray....you will finally be able to become a Tony-God[dess]. With manuals actually working when you press up/down, and the new reverts you can now tie so many tricks in, you will get those SICK scores in no time. With the new introduced balance meter for manuals, rail and lip balance, you are more in control of the game than ever before. But beware....if you think you can put it down after playing for one hour you are greatly mistaken,as the smoothness of the play is not the only thing that has increased...so has the level of addiction. Favourite extra characters are making a come-back, such as private Carrera and Officer Dick. In the Spiderman line of THPS2, you will now get Wolverine!! And wait...a new demoness whose special trick can "make you disappear under your board".....but you will need to 100% teh game with a few characters before you can get this one!Create a skater now finally has a female option, which will please men as much as women. All in all, a must have that will make you lock yourself in your room for weeks....go on...you know you need it....

This game is genuinely one of the most fun games in the 'Tony Hawks Pro Skater' series, it features the 'classic' style of gameplay where you are given a level with goals, and a certain amount of time to beat as many goals as possible. The controls are more fluent than the previous game, and it has better graphics. The music for this game is brilliant, from 'Ace of Spades' by Motorhead to 'Fight like a Brave' by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the songs are guaranteed to pump you up while you are pulling off an impressive combo. There are plenty of skaters to choose from in this game, including some secret ones that are cool, the characters are (*being secret):-Tony Hawk-Kareem Campbell-Chad Muska-Steve Caballero-Bam Margera-Bucky Lasek-Rodney Mullen-Andrew Reynolds-Jamie Thomas-Elissa Steamer-Eric Koston-Rune Glifberg*Darth Maul*Wolverine*She-Devil*Kelly Slater*Officer DickThe levels are also interesting, ranging from a Foundry, to a Cruise ship, each with their own varying and challenging goals, there are also 'Competition' levels held in Rio, Tokyo and a place called 'Skater's Island'.If you're looking for an older Tony Hawk game, but don't feel like going all the way back, this is the game for you.

The legendary skater Tony Hawk is here in another superb skateboarding game. As usual he's not alone. There are many pro skaters to choose from. All of them have their own skills and decks. One thing that is very different from the two previous tony hawk games are the levels. They are bigger and more interactive than any level seen before in a skating game. There are some glitches in some levels. In one level I went right through a ramp. The characters are about as flawless as possible. When you grind your character waves his arms and moves very life like. There are also several new animations of bails, and when you take a bad fall blood stains will remain on the level until you finish or restart. The "create skater" and "build your own skate park" features are included in this third installment of the tony hawk series. Only now they aren't as limited as in tony hawk 2. The great thing about Tony Hawk 3 being on a DVD rom is that you get much better quality on those skate videos that you eventually unlock. Well to finish of I'm just gonna say that this is a great game for everyone so get it and enjoy it!

I got TH3 for Christmas. I have enjoyed all of the TH series so far, but thought that having a third of a series about a sport like Skateboarding was perhaps pushing it. I seriously thought, at first, that TH3 was going to be a nasty re-hash of the nigh-perfect TH2, which would bring the Hawk's series crashing to it's knees (literally). But I was wrong. VERY wrong.True, it takes some getting used to, as you have a bit less hangtime in the air when on a halfpipe, but you soon appreciate that this doubles up as being more realistic, AND gives a real challenge (let's face it, TH2 was very easy, even without a guide). After the first tournament, TH3 really begins to set itself apart from it's predecesors,as the levels begin to burst with detail and STILL run as smoothly as you'd think imaginable with NO SLOWDOWN AT ALL! The lvels get bigger and better, and now there's other people apart from you in existence on the levels, who yell as you Airwalk over their heads.Tony should be proud. I wouldn't be surised if he threw down his board one day, give up, and substitute it all for TH3...it's that good!

Having been a fan of both previous Tony Hawk games, I was eagerly anticipating the 3rd installment of the series. And I wasn't disapointed! The graphics in this game are stunning, and the actual levels are huge. At first the gameplay seems a little slower than Tony Hawk 2, but it soon speeds up once you complete a good run of tricks. The soundtrack features bands/artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Xzibit, and Alien Ant Farm. The new skate park editor is wonderful with a vast array of peices, and the create-a-skater now has the welcome addition of female skaters.I can see this game having a long lifespan, due to the massive amount of challenges and options. If you own or have played any of the Tony Hawk series you should do yourself a favour and buy Tony Hawk 3 NOW!

Most people have experience either Tony Hawks 1 or 2, well prepared to be amazed by Tony Hawks 3. It promotes bigger levels, bigger tricks and better graphics. There are 12 huge levels which wont disappoint anyone, the graphics and game play never slow and also with extra ground tricks you never stop pulling off bigger and better tricks, which always impress. To be honest there isn't a single thing wrong with the game and many others should take note of Activision 02's latest release. If half the games on the PS2 were this good then everyone would have a PS2. As a sum up Tony Hawks 3 is one of the best games around, the levels are huge and graphics realistic, and as you expect from Tony Hawks the music is also great. The most enjoyable game I have ever played.

If you had had Tony Hawk 1, and if youve had Tony Hawks 2, then you have seen nothing yet, wait until you get hold of Tony Hawks 3! It has so much to do, tons of new skaters, you can create your very own skater too!Well, i suppose you want to know, 'where can I skate?'. Well, there are tons of real locations on the games with the gnarliest half-pipes and ramps, oh, but thats not all, you can choose to go urban and take you board to the streets where its like everyday life, pedestrians, cars, light changes, car crashes and even natural disasters!!!There are also tons of new moves along side all the new features. I gave it a 4/5 cos' I think it could be improved, the graphics could be picked up a little better, but all in all, its a great game....get it!

Although this game is similar to the previous Tony Hawk games, it is also an amazing step they've made onto the PS2! The graphics are sharper, gameplay is better, with tricks even bigger, introducing the new 'revert' manoeuvre enabling you to link more tricks together, and the size of the levels has increased dramatically. The developers of this games have done the PS2 proud! Also a great aspect of the game is other non player characters, an intresting way of improving the gameplay! And with this game being the 1st to use online multiplayer, you will be using this game in years to come (atleast until Tony Hawks 4 is launched) All in all, this is a MUST BUY for anyone who enjoyed the past Tony Hawk series, anyone who likes skating, and generally everyone!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is undoubtedly the greatest skateboarding game EVER! The realistic graphics and stylish gameplay make this a must own. With 8 levels (9 if you beat all 3 competitions), the new revert move (now you can link together vert moves by quickly tapping L2 or R2 and converting into a manual for crazy trick combos), and great new options like up to 10 special trick slots and slightly different goals between characters, it is great. I have beaten it with Bam Margera (a great new character from MTV's Jackass) and earned Darth Maul from Star Wars and am currently working with Tony Hawk.Just go pick up a couple of friends and play till your thumbs hurt. So as soon as you finish reading this,GO OUT AND BUY TONY HAWK'S PRO SKATER 3!!!

Tony Hawk 3 rather goes against the PlayStation 2 grain, relying less heavily on special effects than some other games (Metal Gear Solid 2 being a prime example). It has a crisp, clear look, and while some spots feature rather plain textures, the worlds still look great and cohere effectively. The detail level varies from stage to stage, too -- the relatively small Skater Island competition stage (which is still pretty darn huge) has some great textures for the worn wooden walls and graffitied ramps, the Tokyo comp level is an amazing piece of lighting and design, and your bonus for completing the game, the Cruise Ship area, is an absolute knockout in terms of both scale and detail.GO AND BUY IT,ITS THE BEST GAME YET !!!

Tony Hawks 3. Pure Genius! The best skating game ever and, quite possibly, one of the best games to ever grace a games console, period!!The graphics are amazing, with only one or two areas of slowdown, and the gameplay is sweeter than ever with the addition of the new 'revert' ability. The game feels huge with some of the most detailed and action packed levels ever seen in a skating game and the fact that some game levels are interactive (the San Fransisco level is actually struck by an earthquake!!) make it more exciting than ever.Add to this excellent create-a-skater and create-a-skatepark modes and you have a gamethat any self-respecting PS2 owner should add to his collectionimmediately!
