Originally released on the doomed Wii-U, Tokyo Mirage Sessions combines the narrative structure and aesthetic of Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei and Nintendo's Fire Emblem franchise. Its depiction of modern day Tokyo is what attracted me this title and it features real life locations such as Shibuya. The cutscenes are full blown anime-esque sequences and veterans of Manga will be familiar with the "quirky" dialogue.Enemy combatants known as Mirages seek to harvest energy/talent from entertainers for a reason that may of been explained but I don't remember, just because I suppose. The "story" if it can be called such, revolves around a group of teenagers who become allied with some friendly mirages that are based on the warriors/characters from the Fire Emblem series. You and your friends are seeking to become "Idols" and operate under the Fortuna Talent agency. You and your Mirage Avatar fight to protect civilians and discover who is behind the attacks.Effort has been made to flesh out the characters so that you can distinguish them from each other. Tsubasa is the prissy neurotic schoolgirl aiming to become a J-POP star and actor. Itsuki is the typical hero-type who is unsure about himself. Maiko (an ex-model ?) who runs the talent agency and issues the instructions to her blossoming wannabe starlets. The gameplay is Final Fantasy 7 (Original) turn based combat that fittingly takes place on a stage as you and your Mirage exhibit your "talent" You traverse labyrinthine style mazes in an alternative reality encountering enemy's and mini boss fights. The battle system is easy enough to understand and quite tactical. I recommend doing each characters side missions which mainly consists of retreading previously explored areas and allows you to become more familiar with "Shibuya" with its cafes, jewellery shops and mini markets. For a Western audience Tokyo Mirage Sessions shines a light on the interesting unorthodox J-POP culture. Its exuberant dialogue, likeable characters, bright beautiful visuals and gameplay of a minimum 30-40 hours without doing all the side content makes this an imperative purchase for any Japan-ophiles. If you own a Switch and enjoy anime or JRPG's this is an essential purchase and highly enjoyable.

Having never bought a Wii U, I missed out on playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions when it first came out, but upon finding out a port version was on the Switch, I had to check it out, and was not disappointed! Here, you play as Itsuki Aoi as he helps his friends achieve their goals as members of Fortuna Entertainment. Several Fire Emblem characters appear as allies and enemies, and there are several additions to the game that weren't on the original version.Overall, Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a criminally underrated RPG that deserves much more love and attention. If you've played any of the games developed by Atlus, such as Persona or Shin Megami Tensei, you'll certainly enjoy this!

If you have played tokyo mirage sessionsOn wii u youll will be aware of what your are getting but with extras not included in the original. If you are new to this game it is a mix of the fire emblem series with atlus's own twist on the genre, if your new to a jrpg the menus and leveling system may overwhelm you to begin with but with the in game help and playing the start you will soon overcome the barriers.Gameplay is different to what youd expect but highly recommended game youll enjoy.

This is a lightweight Japanese combat RPG with the heavy emphasis on tactics that’s common to the genre, and an equally usual “visual novel” style of presentation outside of fighting contexts. It’s got interesting presentation and the underlying mechanics of the world - that being a good singer/dancer/whatever gives you mystical powers - is extra bonkers. Despite the “FE” part it really has little to do with Fire Emblem except the names of a couple of characters

Having never played Shin Megami Tensei and very little Fire Emblem I honestly didn't know what to expect. This is a thoroughly enjoyable, vibrant and colourful game. It doesn't deviate too far at all from the typical JRPG and anime fanfare therefore it's a very safe bet for fans of the genre. I'm about seven hours in and needless to say I'm having a brilliant time of it. I highly recommend it.

This game is amazing! If you're a big anime fan, then buy it immediately. It's like playing your own series. The graphics are beautiful and enchanting and the story line just keeps on giving. There are side stories as well as the main so the entertainment value goes a long way!

20.2.2020

The game is fun and very enjoyable if you're a fan of the shin megami tensei universe of games, it's like person meets fire emblem so its lighter in nature and fun for anyone no matter the age.

Combines the best of both SMT and persona into a full on package with over 40 hours of content and an addictive challenging system makes this 100% worthy of any JRPG fan.

As a huge SMT and FE fan this game just had everything new and recognisable and I’ve barely touched the surface of the story.

5.2.2020

If you like Japan and Idol culture (+persona or SMT games) you can't miss this game.Plenty of hours of fun and content.
