I enjoy baking, but don't do it as much as I would like. The Tefal Cake Factory appealed to me, because it seems to promise reliable results and I liked the small batch size (which prevents wastage and benefits my waistline). The Cake Factory arrives with the usual array of instruction manuals, plus a recipe booklet. Without going through a trial and error process, it is difficult to adapt non-proprietary recipes for the Cake Factory, so you are really limited to the rather thin booklet that accompanies the machine. Apparently, there is going to be a recipe app released in December, which I look forward to. I hope there is scope for community uploads, too,so that there is a good supply of interesting recipes. The Factory comes with a baking tin, and two silicone moulds (mini-loaf and cupcake shaped). I prefer the tin as the conductive properties of the metal mean that the end result browns better (which equals better caramelisation flavours). I hope Tefal release more tins for the Factory in the future, and I'm sure some would like access to a greater variety of moulds. The Cake Factory is essentially a counter top oven. You mix your ingredients in the usual way, and then bake them in the Factory. There are a number of settings, depending on what's going in, and a timer function to alert you to when the baking time is complete. There is the facility to easily adjust baking time, if your cake needs a bit more or less time.I have baked three cakes using the Cake Factory - gingerbread loaves, a yoghurt cake (twice) and the vanilla chocolate marble cake. The gingerbread loaves had a slightly weird texture, although the flavour was good. The yoghurt cake was great, and the marble cake was nice. You do still have to tweak timings, as I guess eggs are always going to be different sizes and measurements somewhat variable. In general, I think the Cake Factory has slightly too-long timings, and I find knocking 5 minutes off produces better results.I thought this might be a bit of a novelty, but it does streamline the baking process a little, and I do find it easier to knock up a quick cake for afternoon tea using this, rather than my main oven. It would also be a boon if you want to bake pudding at the same time as cooking your roast in your usual oven. Or perhaps for clubs, schools, studio flats, where facilities are at a minimum.Prepare to do a bit of experimentation with the recipes and baking times, and you may find the Factory useful.

As soon as you get the Cake Factory Machine out of its packaging you are immediately struck by its attractive looks being fuschia and white. It certainly makes a statement.Apart from its good looks it is very well made and comes with 2 recipe books plus an instruction book. The recipe books themselves are well laid out with times of preparation, cooking time and what program to us.There are 5 automatic programs i.e.. Cakes to share; individual cakes, lava cake, meringue program, melting chocolate program and manual program. I have used most of the programs except the meringue and manual and all worked well. On the display are diagrams so you can easily see which program you have chosen which will flash and you then press ok.It will tell you on the recipe how long the cooking time will be so you just use the plus or minus buttons and then press start. Once started the cooking time which is illuminated counts down and when it has finished cooking a buzzer will sound. This machine is very user friendly and you can’t go wrong. The machine does not require pre-heating like an oven and it comes with a non- stick tin, two silicon moulds. One for muffins and one for mini cakes. The cakes once cooked turn out of the tin, moulds, very easily. The first cake I made was the jam sponge cake and it was only when sampling the cake I realised it had no butter and tasted like packet trifle sponges. I have made other cakes with no failures and have just baked the apple cake see picture which turned out very well nicely browned on the top although not a lot of flavour even though used butter, eggs, flour, apples sugar etc. In fact all the cakes I have made are a bit bland but they still get eaten!I think this would be a fabulous present for a young person. Very different. It would also be very useful for someone who is perhaps in a bedsit and has limited space.Allthough I am impressed with this cake factory it will not take the place of a normal oven but then one wouldn’t expect it to. However, I am having lots of fun making cakes in this machine with my young grandson who is very impressed! I think anyone receiving this as a present would be delighted..

I was a bit skeptical about this - I have a great oven, bake fairly often, so wondered what this could possibly add to family baking. Actually I've been quite surprised and think this has the potential to not be a "back of the cupboard" item. This, in effect, like a bit of a big sandwich maker, and the footprint on the work surface is a similar size. It's a bit of a "pink" item, but it's been quite cleverly designed with 2 silicone cake molds that fit in it (one folds down for storage and one can be stored inside), a rack and a metal cake tin for larger cakes. The controls are simple - there are 5 preset programs for melting butter or chocolate, meringues, large cakes, smaller cakes, and fondant centre cakes respectively, as well as the ability to set the timer and to change the temperature manually.I would actually advise using the recipe book that comes with it rather than going free style whilst getting to know it. The recipes are quite varied and include vegan and gluten free options. Perhaps inevitably they have a bit of a French slant - no bad thing for me. The cakes we have made have come out perfectly cooked albeit a bit anemic-looking, in a small amount of time (30 minutes for muffins, 40 minutes for the apple crumble we have also made) - although meringues take nearly 2 hours. The tins are quality items. It does all get a bit hot; especial care is needed getting the metal tray out which isn't easy. I think it is child friendly though as you get good results and it's also an advantage to have small batches of things rather than 24 fairy cakes that you won't eat.So, overall more impressed than I thought I would be. I think I will find the app (due in December) useful for more range of recipes. It is a little dear but surprisingly easy to store. I think if you like cooking you will enjoy this - if you don't have an oven you can still make cakes, and even if you do this is a good addition.

The Tefal Cake Factory is basically just a little oven with pre-set features or the ability to use it manually. It comes with a metal cake tin and 2 silicon moulds for muffins or fingers and a couple of recipe books which are really easy to follow (although why they couldn’t just have put them into one book rather than 2 I don’t know – one of them has several languages in it). I really wouldn’t say it’s that different to using a normal oven – you’re still creating as much mess as you would using a big oven as you still need bowls and jugs and scales etc and a workspace to use but I do like the fact you don’t have to pre-heat it and as well as setting the temperature you can also put it on a timer and it will tell you when they’re done. For a first try I’d recommend making something easy for general use rather than something special because it does smell a bit which I found made the food taste a bit funny too but the more it’s used, the more the smell goes away. This also really isn’t designed for large parties – you can only make 6 muffins/fingers or one small cake at a time. One of the main things I’ve noticed is you don’t really get the browning effect like you do in the big oven but everything so far has been nicely baked. It is very restrictive in its use though being as it is really just made for cakes/baking although I’d say if you were a family that bakes a lot then it’s a good way to introduce getting the kids involved. I’m not sure it’s any safer though as the plates inside get very hot. I really wouldn’t say it’s something you need though if you have an oven – it’s far more cost effective to just buy some moulds as there’s nothing extra special about the ones they have provided – it is just all about the pre-set temperatures/timings.

I'm fond of baking and decided to try the Tefal Cake Factory as something a bit different. It's easy to use and there are hardly any controls to deal with;*Follow a recipe from the Tefal recipe book (included).*Tip the cake batter/pudding mix into the silicone moulds or baking tray included with the oven.*Set the baking time as described in the recipe book; 5 programmes in total including a manual setting that allows individual heat and timing.*Close the lid and walk away until the timer goes off. There aren't many recipes in the instruction book. Most of them use a mix of plain flour and baking powder, rather than self raising flour, to produce a wet cake batter rather than a traditional sponge mix.Once baked, the small cakes have a dry, firm texture and certainly benefit from icing, chocolate chips or a filling of some type. Fruit crumbles are better and retain more moisture.Tefal have an App arriving soon with more recipes that will hopefully produce cakes with a better colour and a richer, more indulgent texture. I think some of the dryness is due to the extensive cooking times for the small cakes and meringues which take longer to bake than in a traditional oven. The cake maker is simple to use and really clean. I only usually need to wash out the moulds and wipe down the outside of the machine. My main 'niggle'; once raised the lid will smash down on top of the base if you knock it, even lightly, because there's nothing to hold it upright.

We are loving cooking with this. My girls complained about the pinkness (they really are not fans of pink) but they are massive fans of baking (and eating cakes!) - so were delighted to try different recipes out in this. The cake factory bakes more evenly than our current cooker (which we are about to replace hopefully) as that cooks a different rates in different parts of the oven. The cake factory gives an even bake (but sometimes the cakes come out looking a bit anaemic - but that's nothing a bit of icing can't cover up and the most important thing is that the cakes takes good and aren't dry. I like the fact that this gives a pudding amount of cakes - rather than enough cake to feed a family for a week as often turns out when we bake! The silicon moulds are easy to wash by hand and make it really easy to pop the cakes out when they are ready. The size of your kitchen and how often you use this might colour your opinion. If you have room for it - it's a pretty useful gadget. If you are short on space, then it might be too big to have on the counter all of the time. We are lucky to have the space and I might just have to eat another of the most recent batches of cakes now! Yum!

As an idea I think it’s great if you’re a complete novice and want to learn the basics or when you’ve tried it’s bad every time. But I feel it’s very limited in what desserts you’ll be able to make.Only certain cakes can be made due to the design (no round large cakes) if you were to try a large cake there would have to be so many batches. When I tried the recipe from the app for lemon cake it under bakes them and although I was able to correct it a basic baker may not know what to do. I could use this for making cake pops as it’s fine to break up the sponge. When it baked it did come out a nice colour, soft with little to no browning which is something I struggle with.I still wouldn’t say it makes perfect cakes every time like what it claims as some of the quality of cakes it due to prep (eg air in the cake) App seems easy to use but fiddly to find just a list of recipes (if you close phone and ticking off the steps as you go it gets rid of it) Maybe recommend to a beginner [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I started using the cake factory about three weeks ago and it has been a complete winner in our house. I’ve always loved baking but never quite get it right when it comes to the baking times and either under bake or end up with burnt edges. The first recipe I attempted was the rather impressive looking chocolate marble cake, the recipe book that comes with the cake factory gave meClear and concise instructions and it turned out brilliantly. Baked evenly all the way through and lasted less than an hour as slice after slice was polished off by my kids and visiting parents. I then tried another family favourite: chocolate brownies. This is also one that doesn’t fair well for me in the oven! The cake factory however produced another great result. They were rich and gooey and my samplers and critics thought that they were even nicer than the marbleCake. Another huge plus about the cake factory is that it allows me to have more oven space to cook the savoury dishes when entertaining. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I love this little machine, although I was doubtful at first, after all my oven does work perfectly well! Following a recipe in the enclosed booklets I made a lovely set of mini cakes, which was easy and did not involve me having to check the time and look through the oven door to see if they were brown enough yet. Absolutely perfect results (see pics!), lovely browning on the outside of the cakes but so moist inside, we all loved eating them! Very, very impressive!A lot of the recipes are quite simple to follow, so I will be letting my daughter loose after a couple more goes! The Cake Factory is so easy to use, and creates such perfect results, that I will be using it quite a lot from now on.In the box: the machine,an aluminium baking tin, two silicone mini cake / muffin moulds, a rack to steady the moulds, and some recipe booklets. There is also a leaflet included that states there will be an app of recipes for the Cake Factory available for download in December 2018, so I am looking forward to that.

I like how is the appliace is specific for baking. The functions it has is very helpful in making baking easier and faster. The different baking trays help me save some money a well since i dont have to buy individual paper cupcake holders, since they are silicon its so easy to just pop the cupcakes out ans still in perfect shapes. Its really safe to use as well, never did i get myself any burns. The size of the cake factory is just enough that it fits perfectly in the kitchen. Easy to clean from the outside to inside. The functions are all useable, and an extra manual function if you wanna do it your own way, it have a built in timer to get your attention when your perfect cake is ready.I loe how the cake factory have an app of its own, with guides and step on how to use it and different recipes to try. The instructions are easy to follow and you can make notes as well. I love it, it makes my life easier and makes dessert more exciting! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I was really excited to receive my regal cake factory and was not disappointed when I got it out of the box! It’s pleasing to the eye and not too big. My daughter especially like it as it was pink!!! I looked st the instruction booklet and it was clear and easy to use. The recipie book is also very clear and we were very excited to try some of the recipes. We first made the chocolate and walnut brownies and followed the recipie! The settings and timer display is very clear and again easy to use. In fact it is that easy to use that I let my daughter press and set the timer programmes. The only issue I had was that after baking the brownies for the recommended time I still found the brownies very gooey in the middle so I had to bake for longer than the recommended time. This is down to personal preference though! The cake factory was easy to clean and store away. We are all looking forward to trying some more new delicious recipes. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

It's still a bit of a novelty here as we seem to be making cakes most days but there's no denying that it takes all the guesswork out of it and gives really good results. Was a bit dubious at first as the cakes are all pretty much colourless and I thought our machine was faulty but have since learned that it's quite normal, if a little weird looking. Once the icing is on though you can't tell they're pale underneath. Limited to the shapes dictated by the molds but they're standard sizes so it's not too bad.I wish it wasn't pink though, it looks like a kids toy on the counter. What's the thinking behind that?Even all white would have been better.I hope the novelty doesn't wear off as it's becoming a regular family activity to all gather round and decorate our own cakes...

This is a perfect little item to take into a playgroup or a childs group that has no access to a kitchen with an oven. Its nicely sized, a bit smaller than a microwave, its fairly light and comes with everything you need to get started. The included recipes are easy to follow and are not a typical cake mix and seem to have been designed to cook in this oven specifically. Now this is a bit of a pain because a standard cake mixture wont really cook properly in this oven. No idea why however.Do you need it? Of course not. If you have an oven you wont ever need this, but if you have no access to an oven for example if you are in temporary accomodation/hostel/refuge/shared accomodation this willsuit you.
