Let's get one thing straight right from the start........This sandwich maker makes the best toasted sandwiches and the fluffiest omelettes I've ever tasted, I use it everyday and it is worth every penny. So why only 4 stars? The build quality of this sandwich maker leaves a lot to be desired. After one use the catch that holds the bottom plate in place had come loose and would not retain the plate correctly so back it went. But here is the thing. I brought my Cuisinart sandwich maker from John Lewis which means great service, no quibbling and a 5 year guarantee. So here's the bottom line. If you live reasonably close to John Lewis and you are willing to return and replace your sandwich maker whenever it breaks then here's what you need to do:1.Purchase Cuisinart sandwich maker from John Lewis2. Take it home and unpack it from its box3. Place all packing back in the box with the carrier bag and receipt4. Store box somewhere safeYou are now going to have 5 years of awesome toasties, omelettes, calzones, quesadillas and fruit pies with the occasional hassle of having to box up your sandwich maker to get it replaced for a brand new one.The alternative is to buy a different sandwich maker that won't make as good toasties and will probably only last 3 years max anyway!

I have been a toastie addict for many years. My husband broke my beloved Breville so bought me this (at my request) as a replacement. It cooks perfectly, and the removable plates are super convenient too.It does take a good 8-10 minutes to get to the required heat, though - if you like your toasties well browned.(After a few frustrating uses, I soon learnt to switch it on to heat up while I prepare my bread and fillings though so not a major problem).I would also avoid putting the plates in the dishwasher, as in my experience the non stick coating becomes less effective after 30 or so trips through the dishwasher.Best advice: just remove the plates, soak them in hot, soapy water & wipe clean. The toasties themselves are always delicious, and seal well as long as the bread is thick - Medium bread doesn't seal very well in this toastie maker.Last but not least... you have to try a cheese, tomato & pesto toastie - they are to die for!I never thought i'd like another toastie maker as much as my old breville, but I was pleasantly surprised.PS the burning smell reported by other reviewers was there for me too, but it is pretty standard in most kitchen electricals now, and was only there for the first 2 uses. My new toaster did it too.

I was a little bit concerned by some of the poor reviews for this product when I was deciding which sandwich toaster to buy.I need not have worried, this is a superb sandwich toaster. It is solidly madeIt is easy to useIt has a relatively small footprintIt has removable plates for cleaning, (but so far a quick wipe with kitchen towel has been enough)The capacity is good, (I have made some excellent sandwiches with abundant fillings and no leaks)The non-stick is excellentThe sandwichs comes out golden and crisp, with a warm, melted fillingIf I could change one thing...The bread does not always cut through (between the triangles)Overall - I have yet to be let down by a Cuisinart product and thissandwich maker is as good as all their other products.Recommended.

From the neg reviews I've seen on here, the handle issue seems to come down to you having a grip like one of those pipe bending clamps. I've made literally dozens of toasties in it, and this thing has been amazing. If you're from the school of 'you can never have enough cheese/philadelphia' you'll love this. There's no need to concede to a small dribble of filling with your sandwich mostly burnt edge-bits with this one. It's sturdy, has variable heat settings red/green cool/hot indicator, removable dishwasher safe plates and it looks damn cool. What more do you want?I've also managed to burn cheese/goodness knows what on the plates and the dishwasher has always got it off fine with none of thecoating coming off.I fancy a marmite and cheddar toastie now...

What a great sandwich toaster. I have had quite a few over the years and this one is the best by far. You can put so much more filling in the sandwich's and it wont leak out. The bread is nice and crispy. Green light comes on when its ready. I made a cheese and pineapple toastie yesterday, yum yum........It's also so easy to clean with the removable plates........I also purchased a book called Toastie Heaven from Amazon which is fantastic, I had no idea you could make so many different toasties............If you are thinking of buying a new sandwich toaster, I would definately recommend this one,5*Cuisinart GRSM1U sandwich maker chrome Toastie Heaven: 100 great reasons to dig out the sandwich toaster

Ok it is the most expensive sandwich toaster but it is excellent. Straight out of the box you realise this is a well made practical appliance. Solidly made in stainless steel with easily removable plates to put into the dishwasher. As for the sandwiches, they always come out fully toasted and sealed, no sticking soggy sandwiches with this beauty. I've made the usual cheese toasties with ham etc and also beans and cheese etc etc etc, all great. The removable plates initially put me off as our George foreman grill has removable plates and it doesn't work as well as our small old one which was used to death. But no worries here it heats up quickly and has performed very well up to now.

I purchased my machine 3 years ago and use it almost every day. Initially I was getting tired of cleaning it but on a visit to the supermarket noticed Bacofoil had started selling Non-Stick foil. So I tear off about 16 inches (40cm) of foil and assemble my toastie on the foil (dull side), then fold the foil in half and place inside the preheated machine for about 2 minutes (medium heat). Once done discard the foil for safe food hygiene reasons. No mess in the preparation and no need to clean the hot plates. Finally I use virgin olive on my bread but it works equally well with butter. Five stars using the foil but only three when not - too much cleaning involved.

I haven't owned a toastie maker in years but after researching reviews I decided on the overstuffed sandwich maker. I was not disappointed. The toaster easily takes home-made bread (cut thicker than usual shop-bought loaves) and there is plenty of space for lots of fillings! I like the fact there are different heat settings (i'm still playing around to find the best result) and it is very easily cleaned - simply put the plates straight in the dishwasher. I'm not quite sure if the timing lights work properly as the green light stays on for a few minutes after the toastie is in - but this hasn't caused major problems yet. I would definitely buy again.

After plenty of research reading indipendant reviews as one does these days.. I finally ordered it. I was was however encouraged by the fact that I already have a Cuine Art toast maker that was gifted to me buy a close friend. Received it on time and as described. I have only had it for a few days however I have made plenty of cheese toasties. The bread is toasted evenly, golden brown and cheese sealed in and melted nicy. Lovely little machine and like all things, I will take care of it so that it takes care of me. It looks and feels durable and reliable as I'd expect from Cuisine Art. So far I feel it's a great buy.

I bought this sandwich maker a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I have had a few sandwich makers before, but they were always difficult to keep clean and they didn't allow for deep-filled sandwiches. This Cuisinart model definitely fits the bill. The plates are easy to remove, clean and replace. I make my own bread, and the sandwich maker copes perfectly with the variable sized slices I cut. We stopped having toasted sandwiches because we just couldn't keep our old sandwich maker clean. Toasties are now definitely back on the menu with this new sandwich maker.

Our ancient sandwich toaster needed replacing and so far the Cuisinart has been a good buy. The plates have proven to be non-stick and it's great to be able to remove them for washing. Slices from a standard loaf are completely contained when the lid is closed and 4 to 5 minutes at the high setting produces good toasted sandwiches. Apparently it will also make apple turnovers! Hopefully we won't have a broken handle that others have reported, as so far it's a great replacement for our old sandwich maker.

I don't generally write reviews but as there have been many negative reviews, felt compelled to do so as I don't agree with many of them. As far as I'm concerned it makes great toasties every time. It doesn't stick, the handle hasn't fallen off and it's really easy to clean. I have a Cuisinart Ice cream maker, which has been very reliable so bought this sandwich maker as I thought it looked solid and reliable- and it is. It also takes a good size slice of bread, which some of the others don't.

We were looking for a sandwich maker which was big and deep enough to hold a decent size sandwich. We also wanted one which was easy to clean. We were not disappointed when selecting this product. It really is brilliant. It's big enough to hold a decent size sandwich without it oozing over the edge and the depth lets you put in plenty of fillings. The plates remove for easy cleaning so there is no mess at all. It is worth every penny of the price and I can't recommend it enough.

Reading one of the review's I was nearly put off making a purchase owing to the handle clip problem but having used the Cuisinart GRSM1U three times ( never having used one before )I am delighted with the results and also the ease of cleaning after use. I have inspected the handle clip and perhaps it could be a problem being made of plastic but I am keeping my fingers crossed. Otherwise the toaster seems very well made and I like the designe .

We bought this as we were fed up with the problems with our old toastie maker - cheese leaking down the back of the toastie machine, no heat control settings, sticky plates and a nightmare to clean. This was more than we'd normally have paid for a toastie machine, but it is definitely worth it! It solves all of the above issues we had with our other machine & it is now a pleasure not a chore, to make a toasted sandwich!!!
