I researched all sorts and sizes of waffle maker before deciding on this one. I bought it as a Christmas present for my wife and son who love waffles.I made the right choice as this makes great waffles!I read all the reviews of this before buying and people mention about it 'falling apart' when you turn it over. Well, strictly speaking it can do- but not the whole thing, just the clasp on the handles. This is no big problem and to overcome it, simply hold the handles gently and further down. I don't think I'd call it a design flaw as such, just one of those things that can't be avoided. My attitude towards that problem is that this is a real waffle maker and not some plug in and hear a ping type thing. You need to perfect the technique and get used to it.The waffles it produces are simply brilliant. I bought the Aunt Jemima mix and although not cheap at £8 odd, it's very good. I intend to create my own mix from now on though and have found a great authentic Norwegian waffle blog with variations on the basic waffle (one with vanilla sounds tasty)A few downsides to cooking on a stove top- the black none stick coating can easily be scratched on the outside but other than the look of it, is not a real problem. Also, if you have a big family then don't get their hopes up about eating endless waffles within a few minutes- it takes a while and from first batch to last could be a good 15 mins. This might be good or bad depending on how you think food should be eaten. In terms of cooking tips, let me recommend spraying or wiping with a decent veg or olive oil before every use. Also, don't forget to keep turning during cooking. It is hard to know when done but have a peep inside and see. But a good few mins on each side is average. I do mine on a large gas ring at mid setting.I over did one set and they weren't nice once they started turning brown. Also, heat the iron up before pouring the first mix in on each waffle cook. I have found that my second and third batches produce better waffles and I conclude that is because it has heated up on the first batch.I do honestly think though that this could be cheaper than it is, as it really isn't anything too amazingly special. It does the job, I love it, great results but if it were cheaper, I'd think it was about the right price and I'd buy several for all the family. So, unless you can find this cheaper somewhere else then this is the one to buy. And after making your own waffles you will probably pull a face and go 'yuk' if anyone offers you a mass produced waffle ever again. So be warned - if you buy this there is no going back to shop bought waffles.

I'd read the reviews before I bought this, I couldn't decide whether I wanted this one or an electrical one. But we have soooo many gadgets taking up space in our cupboards that I thought this would be a better option. It comes apart in 4 pieces, which makes it no only easy to store, as it takes about as much space as a paperback, but it's also easy to clean. You don't need to grease it all that much either. But you do need to grease it. Take a folded piece of kitchen roll, place it over a bottle of vegetable oil and turn a few times until you have a few circles of oil on the paper. Then rub these circles all around the inside of the pan, you'll barely see any oil on the pan itself.Do this on all 4 areas. Once you've done this the best way to use this, is very much like the best way of making Yorkshire puddings - make sure the pan is super duper hot before you even think of putting the mixture in. That way you know the mixture won't stick to the bottom. I used the highest heat on my gas stove to get it nice and hot. When it's hot enough (don't touch it to test or you'll burn your skin off!!!) pour enough mixture on to two of the square areas that is horizontal that it just covers the little nobbly bits. If you put too much in, it will expand out of the pan when it rises.I've tried a few different recipes from the internet, including one claiming to be the best ever waffle recipe, but I didn't like it. They're often too eggy and I've never had a waffle in Europe that has tasted so eggy, they're also more like pancake mixture so they just have completely the wrong texture. I'm not sure that some of these people who write these recipes have had a proper waffle before. I'm not saying I'm an expert, but the nearest recipe that I've found is the 'Dropped Scone' recipe from the Bero book which you can find here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/HOME-RECIPES-BE-RO-FLOUR-EDITION/dp/B003IIQ802/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1394795236&sr=8-9&keywords=bero+cookbook I've got the 40th edition which I think I actually bought from a supermarket for less than £5. If you use this recipe, cook it on a medium to high heat, turning regularly and don't cook for too long as they will end up dry. This recipe is rather thick so you won't be able to pour it in, so I put in 1.5 tbsp of the mixture and they came out looking almost like traditional ones that aren't square. This mixture makes about 4 waffles.Hope this helps!

Brilliant piece of kitchen kit!The whole thing comes apart for very easy cleaning, you can get into all the nooks and crannies. Handles unscrew, the plates slide apart, easy.I had one of these years ago and it was not non-stick, a real pain in the butt to get the waffle out, it only made one at a time. This non-stick double waffle iron makes 2 large deep waffles.Tip: Make sure the iron is very hot before you put the first batch of batter in, I found that a half cup measure is a nice amount and doesn't overflow the edges. Quickly spread the batter over the plate, so that you get an even square waffle, close the lid and either put the clip in place or not as you like, it makes no differance to the finished waffle.I have arthritis so the clip is a bit of a nightmare, just hold the handles closed. Turn the iron over after a couple of minutes to cook the other side of the waffle. Take a peek and if it is nicely browned your waffles are cooked. If you can see the steam escaping, when that stops the waffle is supposedly done, but I like my waffles golden coloured not anemic looking.Use a spatula suitable for non-stick pans to remove the waffles and cut in half down the centre.Waffles (and pancakes) freeze very well. Put the waffle under the grill for a couple of minutes to warm and spread with your favourite topping.

Love this waffle iron. Easy to use - heat on my gas hob, brush with a little oil & I'm good to go. Easy to flip over with the detachable handles & waffles come out perfect every time, with no sticking. I can see that it would scratch easily (the outside has scratched moving around on my hob) so don't scrapers or anything to get them out, just tongs. Can't wait to try sweet & savoury recipes. Top tip: add some grated apple to the batter for super moist & flavourful waffles.Good recipe for light, fluffy waffles: 1.5 cups flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, 2 tbsp soft brown sugar, pinch of salt, 375ml milk, 40ml veg oil, 40ml Orange juice, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 grated apple. Whisk together & spoon onto heated, oiled waffle iron & away you go! Yum!

The iron itself is some form of cast metal, not very thick. The surface quickly chips on the hob, gas. This has no effect on the waffles, the waffle making capability is not in doubt. It works. The problem we had was the hinges are rather weakly designed. The first one we had broke at the hinge, we suspect a casting defect and it was replaced quickly with no argument.A cast metal waffle iron should be virtually indestructible though. The hinges can come unclipped if you arent careful, the handles are a bit loose when aligned to lock down when cooking. It does the job, the waffles are nice. You dont get the warm fluffy feel of a lifetime buy, you are left wondering how long it will last.

The first time I used the waffle maker, my waffles burnt and stuck to the griddles. I got so frustrated that I threw it in the corner and vowed never to make waffles again. But, I found a new vegan recipe for waffles and gave it a second chance. I'm so glad I did! The waffles didn't stick at all, and they came out great. Sometimes they can be a little thin and wafery, but usually they come out as you'd expect. I'm pleased with my purchase now.I advise making sure the griddles are hot before pouring in any mixture. I also make sure they are oiled up nicely with coconut oil on both sides to avoid sticking, but that could be because of my first traumatic experience with using it!

Got these as I a cheap way to make waffles on my gas stove. Didn't want the expense of an electric one for the odd waffle from time to time.Very easy to use and clean. Takes up little space in the cupboard so that is a bonus as well. No real cooking advice or instructions (IE quantities and cooking times) so it's a case of trial and error - but that should not put you off as it's not difficult. I cook basic waffles about a minute each side (some say till the steam stops, but I don't really see much steam) on a large gas burner (so it covers the whole device) with a medium to low gas flame.

Nice simple design and works well on a gas stove. Takes just under 1/2 cup of batter per side, and the two sides slide apart for cleaning or to get your waffles out.Only gets 4 stars because I was a little disappointed with the build quality. Even with tightening, the handles are always a bit loose, and further tightening strips the threads. Also, after the first couple of uses the non-stick coating started scratching off where the edges of the iron come together. Still works fine.Overall, fine for the price and has made dozens of tasty waffles!

I love the waffle maker and have used it as often as I can, not just making waffles I also use it to make janapanese pancake, chips and fish fingers. The result is better than I prredicted. I have had crispy chips and fish fingers within very short time which not only saves a lot of time waiting for oven to warm up but also cuts down the costs of gas and electric. The only downside is that the handles don't seem to stay tight as it come loose everytime when it cool down which is a bit inconvinient. Overall, I think it's a good buy.

I have had this waffle iron for over a year and i cant complain. If you make waffles on a regular basis then you will learn to prevent the handles unscrewing or the plates coming apart. Some people have also commented about the non stick coating coming off but if you clean it with a damp cloth then it is not likely to come off to early instead of scrubbing it clean. All in all i find that my belgian waffles always come out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A little lemon zest to the mix makes them taste ever so light!

I love this waffle iron! I used to have an electrical waffle maker but the waffles always ended up too thin and soft, but using this waffle iron (and a good recipe, of course) you get proper Belgian-style waffles: thick, crispy outside and soft in the middle.I haven't had any trouble with turning it over while cooking the waffles and the handles are truly heat-proof. The fact you can screw the handles off is also very useful because it means the waffle iron takes less space when you want to store it.

This product brings much joy to my family, weekend mornings have never been the same. I am constantly badgered to make waffles. The irons take a bit of heating up, we have halogen hobs and they seem to work ok on there. The waffles do take a while to cook and you only get two at each serving but they are big and thicker than shop bought waffles. Best served with nutella and bananas.

Used my waffle iron for the first time today and I’m very impressed as my photo will show they cooked well and they didn’t stick to the pan I made sure I brushed oil on both sides and heated well before adding the batter, my family loved them, This pan is non-stick I’ve read some reviews saying that the waffles stick to the pan but if you oil it well you won’t have that problem.

Much easier to store than an electric waffle iron and produces better, thicker waffles, too. No problems in use; you just need to be sensible and to ensure that the clip is closed over the handles before turning it over. One star dropped due to the coating starting to come away in a couple of spots, but nothing that affects performance so far.
