I am not a regular gym go-er, but have got a lot of use out of this backpack. This bag falls within the allowed dimensions for most airlines when full and I found it excellent to use as my baggage when I took a 3 day mini-break last year. The different compartments mean you can organise your bag really well and the little touches like a laundry bag are great, as you can keep one compartment for clothes, but ensure clean and dirty aren't mixing. This bag is ideal for anyone who has multiple aspects to their day or life, or who just likes to keep as organised as possible. The main zip reaches from the bottom edge of the bag, all the way up one side, over the top and down to the bottom edge again, meaning you can open the bag fully, having it lying flat with most of the compartments available.Comprising the back section there is:- a 'laptop' section, which is a section on the inner back wall which is the full width and depth of the bag. This has a flap across the top, secured by two velcro tabs.- an 'accessories pocket', which is zipped and is 6"x11". I found this fit chargers/ adapters/ passport in well when travelling and is great for your stationary/ phone etc in everyday use.- A mesh pocket with a zip on the top. This won't fit as much as the other pockets, as is tighter to the bag, but is 7"x10".The front part of the bag is as follows:- A large pocket making up the front half of the bag- this can be accessed via a side zip from the inside of the bag or a zip along the top, front of the bag. This makes is ideal for packing or for getting items out when you are on the move. There is a 12"x8" velcro sealed pocket inside this section too.- A small, flat 7"x6" pocket on the front of the bag, which it suggests is ideal for a mobile phone.- A zip along the base of the front, which gives access to a pocket with thin fabric walls. This is 12"x11" and shares a cavity with the larger front pocket, but allows you to keep items in this space separate. This is ideal for items like a small towel. This is a large rucksack in terms of being tall, although it does stay fairly slim unless packed up with clothes etc. It measures around 20"x14". The back and shoulder straps have some padding and are a breathable material, making this comfortable to wear. The straps are adjustable and you can fasten them together on your front via a clip (like on a bicycle helmet). There are two mesh side pockets for drinks bottles and so on and there is a thick plastic hook in a compartment on the back, so you can hang it up in changing rooms/ bathrooms/ a wardrobe. This is a secure backpack with a virtually endless functionality, whatever different activities you participate in. If you like a simple bag with one large main pocket then this probably isn't the one for you, but if you like sections and want to divide up your possessions up and have easy access to them then consider this. I've been using it for months and it is still looking great with no problems with zips breaking etc. It is wipe clean on the front and generally worth the price tag as is so well made.

This is the first of the new breed of backpack that I have tried - the ones with loads of little compartments to suit all the little bits and pieces that we carry with us these days - and it does that part really well. It has loads of neat little compartments, and whilst it took me a little while to get used to using them, they're all pretty sensibly labelled: there's a padded one for the laptop, of course, and next to that one of my favourites, a little one for all the tech accessories (my power pack, phone charger, USB mouse often go in there). There is a tiny one on the front, good for pens or whatever (although labelled for a phone or small tablet) and then a deep one the length of the bag, where I keep folders/books/notebooks etc. There's one for trainers - with a vent, good if you're going to the gym - too. The pockets are well designed and do a good job; it's helped me organise my bag better.I tend to use it as a weekend bag, as it's a little larger than I normally need for travelling around London on a day-to-day basis. As a weekend bag, the little detachable sponge bag comes in really useful, as do the little pouches for waterbottles, and although the bag for dirty laundry is a little superfluous, it's nicer than using an old Sainsbury's bag.The downsides are small, but several. First is that I don't find it particularly comfortable. I hadn't really noticed it until I put my wife's new backpack on, and felt how much more comfortable and supported I felt. It could be that it's just a bit big, but I think the straps/back are not super comfy.Second, I'm worried about durability: having used it quite heavily over a three week holiday recently, I noticed some give around the seams near the zips. I have a feeling that unless I'm careful, if I keep packing the bag full, the main zip is going to come apart. The stitching is already giving and I've only used it intermittently over about five months.Lastly - and this is a personal preference more than a concern - I'm not a massive fan of the way the main compartment opens. It basically opens all the way round so you can open the main compartment a bit like a suitcase. In some ways this is good, as it avoids the problem of having to stick your hands down into the bottom of the bag, but in practice it doesn't really work because the compartment doesn't have deep enough sides, so if you open it all the way and unfold the bag, things just slip out. What this means is that if I'm staying at a friend's, when I open the bag all the way, all my stuff slides everywhere which I then have to repack. It's a small annoyance, but an annoyance.Overall, though, I do like this bag. I'll keep using it as a weekend bag, or when I've got a lot to carry around the city, and I'm converted to the idea of a bag with loads of (labelled) compartments - that's really helped me organise myself.

In summary:-Fits an exceptional amount in it.-Structure feels sturdy, though the shoulder straps feel like they could be stronger.-Much more convenient to travel with than a large duffle bag (particularly on the tube).-Provides a variety of pockets, with useful dedicated pockets for laptops, clothes, rackets, shoes, balls and bottles.-Storage mechanism for rackets is effective and suitable for various types of rackets (e.g. tennis, squash).I bought the "racket" version of this backpack to carry my squash gear with me to work, when I plan on playing straight after. Before buying this backpack, I would take a large duffle bag with me to work, a journey I make using London's tube service. It was a nightmare lugging about a big and heavy bag on the tube and it eventually made me dread squash days. This bag has been a lifesaver. It fits just as much as the duffle bag does but in a much more practical and convenient structure. I no longer dread taking my squash gear into work. When using the bag for after-work squash, I fit:-shorts and a t-shirt, a towel, plus a change of clothes for after squash (usually jeans, another t-shirt, underwear), all in the main pocket,-a pair of squash shoes in the dedicated shoe compartment (very handy!), which uses space from the main compartment,-a squash racket in the dedicated pocket,- a tube of squash balls in the external slot, -a water bottle in the side-holder,-a padlock and a protein bar in the small front pocket; and,-my work laptop (13 inch, though there's space for larger), work phone and charger in the dedicated pocket. The bag fits all of the above comfortably and due to its robust structure, allows me to carry this comfortably without it feeling too burdensome. The bag stores rackets by providing a slot for the racket head with a gap for the neck/handle to poke out. There are also leather (not sure if genuine leather) handle covers, which are attached to the inside of the racket-pocket by elasticated straps. These protect the racket from the weather, as well as holding it in place while stored. Both the pocket and handle protectors are suitable for longer rackets, such as squash rackets. If I had to pick some downsides to the backpack, I would say that it has quite a large depth (i.e. it sticks out a fair bit from your back) and the shoulder straps could be strengthened. However, both of these are somewhat pedantic, as the bag would not be able to store so much without being large in at least one dimension and the straps have not yet shown any signs of breaking after months of use.

Righto as other reviewers have already noted this bag is AWESOME! It really seems like something Q would give to James Bond. Targus have thought of everything. I do love a bag with bags in it and secret pockets and well this is just the gold standard of hidden pockets and gadgets. We've got a sturdy plastic hanger which pops out the top for hanging it up off the floor but the base of the bag is also waterproof if you do have to put it down. We've got mesh fabric on the back so your back doesn't overheat. We have adjustable straps and a chest fastener for added security and comfort. We have 2 mesh side pockets which fit a standard water bottle. There's a roomy front zipped pocket with 2 zips so you can open either end and reach in (or even use the zips to padlock together. There's a zipped mobile phone pocket at the top (with 1 zip) and a grip handle in the middle if you wish to pick up your bag like a holdall. And a secondary pocket which opens to reveal another compartment suitable for a laptop within which again there is a velcro pocket for accessories. There is also a grip handle at the top of the bag. The bag has one zipped opening again with 2 zips so you can open from either side.Inside the bag there is a side zip for easy access to the laptop and middle pocket. So in the main part of the bag, there is a large padded section which goes against your back for comfort. A large mesh zipped pocket for accessories. A very large velcro pocket (the length of the whole rucksack) which contains a matching PVC drawstring wetbag. Although they have put a picture of a laptop for that pocket. I prefer the laptop in the front pocket. Another zipped pocket with a picture of mobile phone accessories on it. And we're not done yet. It also features a removable bag which is attached via veclro and contains another 2 little mesh pockets. This has pictures of razor etc on it but you could use it for anything really. Phew. It really is incredible what they have packed into this and still left loads of room for everything you might need for a weekend away.

I love that its genuinely comfortable to carry, no heat build up on my back and nice chest strap to help secure the load. Plenty of compartments for separating all your kit. Convenient (washable) dirty clothes bag is a great addition as I always need another bag of some kind for sweaty kit. Downsides I would say is security, the zippers are quite large and zip action is a smooth glide (also a positive) so could easily be opened whilst on your back and nothing to stop the entire main compartment being fully opened by anyone, dropping everything stored that isn't in a fastened compartment. The main compartment zippers can have a padlock though. I like the shoe compartment, it can fit most large shoes, probably my hi-top boots if I tried. Just be aware that the shoe compartment is essentially a pocket of the mid compartment that is accessed from the bottom. The larger the shoes the more space you lose in the mid compartment. Not a major problem for me as I have very low profile trainers but could be annoying if you try to store normal shoes in it and other items in the mid compartment at the same time. Made the idea of having the separate zipper at the bottom pointless really - Its just another compartment that could be opened without you knowing and everything drops out as its upside down. I use it for my trainers before training and dirty kit after. I have seen enough pickpockets operate around london and heard stories to be wary of these easy access issues. For under £40 not disappointed at all though - needs improvements from Targus

I am so impressed with this bag.At the very top is a single zipped padded pocket that is intended to hold a mobile phone to allow quick access. Next to this is a large zipped pocket with 2 zips to allow a full open for easy access. This goes the full length of the bag and one side has a shallow net pocket. Inside were 2 separate bags; a see through zipped bag intended for toiletries and a pull top bag for dirty clothing, great features I was not expecting. After the sturdy grab handle is another full length zipped pocket and a half length net pocket on one side. One of the sides has a zipped compartment which goes inside the bag, so if you put things in like trainers,it will take up some of the space inside the main bag. The other side has a standard pocket. The other side pocket with the coloured zip is where you can store racquets. There is even a cover for the handles that will stick out. As there is a divider, you can carry 2 racquets at once. There are 2 large front pockets and a smaller zip pocket right at the front. Not only are there vast storage spaces, the bag is made to a high quality. Sometimes in use I have forgotten which compartment I put things in, but over time, I will remember. It is very comfortable to wear, the straps are padded and have a snap lock to stop the pull and keep it held in place. The back is also contoured so that the bag is away from your spine, allowing air flow. I used to use a standard holdall for going to the gym, not now, this is just superb and seems it will last a lifetime. So impressed.

I used to get by with just a messenger bag for work as I didn't need much to take out with me. Since changing jobs to one that now involves overnight stays and moving a lot of gear about a proper rucksack was the logical choice. This Targus Work + Play Fitness backpack is a huge step up on my previous backpack. There are more zipped and Velcro pockets than you'll probably ever need, and then some. Every part of this backpack has been carefully thought out and I can't see any shortcuts or cheap materials.I've had just under 7kg of clothes (over a stone in weight) and computer kit in this backpack and, while it was a tad heavy to lift, once it was on my back it felt well balanced and the excellent padding meant no sweaty feeling and no hard edges felt when walking around. The clipped chest strap was essential in keeping it steady, as without the rucksack tended to sit too low on my back.I particularly like the integrated hook and that the main compartment unzips all the way around so you can see everything you've packed when you get to your hotel room. It's certainly made traveling much easier and I don't need more than one bag for a few day's away with work.Only negative thing is no luggage belt, so I can't hang it off the handle of a wheelie bag. However, as it's so comfortable and balanced to wear I've never felt this a problem.

+++ This review is for the "Fitness Black" variant +++• Don't buy this if you JUST want a laptop backpack — it is slightly oversized. (It's great if you want to replace two bags worth of stuff.) When I was a child, in school, no-one wore a backpack with both straps, because it looked really dorky. In my opinion, this bag isn't one that you can use with just one strap all or most of the time. (Due to the way it hangs, and its size.)• The laptop compartment is very well padded, and spacious. Most laptops made today are very thin — my MacBook Pro 15.4inch (2013 model) is 1.8cm thick, but I reckon this bag could fit one that was twice as thick.• Every strap — the top handle and both shoulder straps — is well-padded,so carrying this bag for long periods is as comfortable as it could be.• The stitching seems really high quality.• There are ample nooks and crannies to keep things organised. Very clever use of :✪ Velcro✪ Zips✪ Pockets (compartments)✪ Bags (detachable laundry bag).• The hook (which is retractable) makes it ideal for hanging up in your hotel room.• I am in the process of making a video so I can show you more.

An exceptional backpack. The first thing I noticed was its black vinyl bottom, designed to keep the contents dry when you put it down on the floor. With a cross chest strap to ensure it stays in place when you are walking, and adjustable shoulder straps, this backpack is designed to fit well. The rear of the pack that fits against your back is padded and breathable. With pockets at both sides (one with a zip) and two front pockets with some give in them, this is designed to be flexible. There is also a front zip pocket. The rear full length zipped area has two removable sleeves, one designed for toiletries and the other a bag for a dirty shirt. It also as a padded section for your phone or similar electronics. This section could also be used for your laptop or tablet. The mid zipped section will easily pack a change of clothes. The final front zipped section is designed for a sports racket but cold easily be used for a wide range of products. This is an incredibly versatile, well padded backpack with lots of pockets that is designed as a multipurpose pack that the modern person will find essential for the complex way we live today.

Fantastic bag. Slightly bigger than your normal backpack style but this is a good thing. As with other review so far this bag has everything apart from one tiny detail, Pen/pencil holders. Apart from that yes there is everything. This includes a bag for dirty clothing, a wash bag and zip pockets for phones, chargers and headphones. There are two main parts to the bag. One with all the pockets which also includes a laptop section which is well padded for protection and fits a decent size laptop in. The second section which can be accessed either from the front zip, when the bag is closed, or from an internal zip when the bag is fully open. This compartment is the full size of the bag,for me it is ideal for putting clean clothes in for quick business trips. there is the usual side netted pockets for quick acces items like water bottles and a very handy solid hook which means you can hang the bag up on the back doors or coat pegs. Another little extra is that thereis a whistle on the front clasp.Overall a very nice bag that will be excellent for one trips or rips to gym from work.

With more secret compartments than the KGB this is a very handy backpack, of the type that features two padded, slimmer laptop style compartments rather than one large compartment. It also features a third compartment designed to hold two rackets (there is a slim padded divider to keep them separate) with the handles protruding out of the top. Two zipped and elasticated covers for your racket handles are also provided, along with a separate zipped and transparent bag for your valuables and a large draw bag for your sports gear.Unusually there is also a very handy bottom pocket that loads from the side and can horizontally accommodate a two litre bottle of Pepsi or a pair of trainers, handy if you want to keep such items separate from the rest of your gear. When not in use it’s interior bag squashes right down and doesn’t constrict either of the main compartments. All in all this a very neat idea. The back of the pack is suitably padded for comfort, as are the straps. With several other outside pockets also provided this makes for a very good laptop/sports bag.

I was looking for such a fitness bag for a long time and finally, I found it. I go to university and my gym is located on the campus. It was very difficult to carry two bags before, but now I can put my laptop, A4 folders, pencil box and my gym stuff such as my t-shirt, short, towel, shaker and so on. Its straps are soft. The material used for the bag is quality. The only aspect which I do not like about the bag is that it takes up a little bit more space than other bags, but I find it normal because carrying one single bag is better than carrying two bags.I love its laptop compartment. You can close the compartment when you put your laptop and accordingly you can protect your belongings about work. There is a little bag for dirty gym clothes after your workout, which is quite nice. The producers considered every single detail for those who work/study and work out at the gym.The bag definitely deserves 5 stars and meets my expectations.

This Targus Work & Play Backpack really is an exceptional piece of luggage. The quality is excellent its 100% polyester. The stitching, zip quality and buckles all feel as though they will endure a lot of abuse. There are lots of different sections, pockets and sleeves to keep your belongings organised. It's 15.6" / 40 cm high and has a capacity of 24 L. You can fit a lot of stuff here. Its purpose as the name suggests is for using for work and then going to the gym etc after you have finished but equally could be used as overnight bag for travelling. It has compartments for your laptop/tablet and accessories. A discreet shoes and clothing section.Your sports kit and equipment and it even has a dirty laundry and wash bag included. The only minus I have is that it is a bit on the heavy side but I guess that just proves that it's a solid well made robust kit bag.It is a bit on the pricey side but quality doesn't come cheap.

What an excellent backpack. This has been thought out really well. The have thought of everything including providing you with a little loose pouch for your dirty clothes and a waterproof small bag for your shampoo and shower gel etc.(Although it is quite small so you might need to resort to carrying travel sized ones)The laptop area is well padded and secure. The place for a sports Racquet at the front is good. The pockets at the very front are designed for spare balls or shuttlecocks but could equally hold a water bottle to keep it handy. I like the compartment for shoes underneath keeping them separate. Plenty room for the gym kit or tennis gear It is really strong and well stitched.Feels like it will last a good long time. I think even if you aren't playing a racquet sport, it is still an excellent bag to take to the gym.

Love this back pack.First off it holds my Laptop and it has a secure place for my phone and pockets for laptop charger, earphones and keys.It has a pocket at the front that holds my toiletries, a section for my squash kit. It holds my squash racket and racketball racket and the bottom side opens up to slot in my trainers and it has two pockets at the front where I can store Racket and Squash balls.I used to take two bags to work, one for my laptop stuff and the other for squash/racketball kits and rackets. I now have an all in one solution that looks great and fits very comfortably.Perfect backpack for anyone that uses a laptop and plays and racket sports or to be fair, any spots in general.Superb piece of kit.
