Sorting out/maintaining tools before winter sets in led to a mini spending spree on new (DeWalt TSTAK) cases for tools. The inevitable corollary was doing something about the chaos of fixtures and fittings mixed up and put away any old how and since I don't need the bomb-proof TSTAK for all the bits and pieces I thought I'd check out the FatMax Shallow Pro Organiser. The positive reviews are not exaggerated: the mega-sturdy construction - over-engineered like the proverbial brick outhouse - gives me confidence they won't come apart under the weight of metal sloshing about inside when filled. A big bonus is they come with handy sorting bins for (at the time of purchase)a measly 93p premium over and above the similarly-priced but incompatible, bin-less and comparatively fragile-seeming Stanley 'Sortmaster' range*.Since I aim to organise all the routine screws from #6x18mm to 180mm coach bolts, and all the nuts and bolts from M3 to M18 I got a couple and I strongly suspect I'll really need the twin latches, heavy-duty polycarbonate lids and strong shell just to stop several kilos of heavy metal ending scattered up all over the garage floor (when I finally get around to doing all the jobs I didn't get around to this summer). Thus far I only have one gripe: when ordered the companion 'deep dish' version is/was only available to Amazon Prime customers so I'll be keeping sorting out hinges, brackets, locks etc as a special treat to look forward to after recovering from turkey poisoning.UPDATEHaving sorted all the coach screws , frame fixers etc., which worked out perfectly, I noticed the second organiser out of the carton showed the tell-tale pattern you get when polycarbonate is stressed just shy of failure in an odd place for routine impacts the bottom right six inches of the hinge and lip seal, with a full penetration chip about three inches in fromt he corner. When I checked the box on receipt there was no sign of damage, both organisers being well-packaged, so I assume it took a hit before dispatch. (I'd strongly advise a close(er) inspection on receipt, just in case it's not a one-off.)I'm still impressed, mind, so much so I ordered the 'deep dish' version, delivered lightning fast, the van pulling out of my drive just after I got back from the local post office with a Tracked Returns receipt still in hand, and I'll be attacking the pile of locks, hinges, seals and weird-looking doohickies presnetly distributed in repurposed cartons, cigar boxes, tobacco tins and old film canisters...(The lighter-duty Stanley 'Sortmaster' range features an inner 'core' of cells suitable for screws, bolts ,wall plugs etc. surrounded by space that can be subdivided at will so it's easy to accommodate small power tools, long bits, hand tools, squares, brackets etc. etc. so if you need a more versatile item that doesn't need to be builder-proof it's probably worth checking out these more versatile items before investing in FatMax items.)

I already have several of the deep version of this case. This one was bought to house the screws from my Screwfix Turbo Silver General Trade Case. Same number of compartments as the Screwfix metal one, but easier to use and see what you have in the case. There is much less chance of marking floors/walls/doors with this being plastic.Tough, reliable cases that allow you to instantly identify contents. I have never had any problems with the plastic catches and no need for waterproofing, so opted for this version. If waterproof properties are a concern, opt for the one with the seal and metal catches for a few pounds more, the Stanley FatMax 1-97-517 Shallow Pro Organiser. The deep and shallow versions are compatible for clipping together for storage or carrying. If you buy several at a time, you can swap the tubs between them to your suit your own preference or needs.I would never go back to ones without removable tubs. These are so much more versatile. You can remove some of the tubs and leave an empty space for tools in the space made, without fear of the rest of the tubs moving when closed. No migration of tub contents when closed. No need to take the whole case to the job. Just take what you need. I can fit a tub (smaller, single ones only, shallow or deep) in either of my outside Snickers work trouser pockets. Saves the pockets, quick and easy to transfer back to case. The only possible niggle to look for is sharp bits/edges around the lid. On both the deep and shallow versions, I have found some sharp bits around the lid edges. Easily fixed with a file or bit of sandpaper. As these could be used for arts/crafts, possibly by people with more delicate skin than trades people, thought it worth mentioning.(I use WD40 to get the remaining glue off after removing sticky label that Stanley insist on sticking to the clear lid).

This is quite a big box. The clasps fasten the lid securely, but they operate, for me at least, counter-intuitively, so I always pull from the wrong edge before realising. The yellow individual containers are deep enough, but not so deep it's difficult to retrieve small items -like screws. Mind you most of these small containers are too large for a few loose screws without wasting a lot of space. Screws in bags would be ok. I've managed to fit a whole set of half a dozen small pliers in the largest size.It appears to be solid and well-constructed, but I only need it to keep things tidy and occasionally portable so it won't see any heavy use by me.I'm quite happy with it and I really like that the interior containers are easy to lift out and rearrange.

This new type of design that uses small boxes instead of dividers (small strips of plastic) is great. In addition, multiple boxes can be locked together with a small side locking lever. The price is relatively high however and I assume it will go down, and if it does so I might purchase one or two more. There are 8 trays and 2 large trays that are twice the size.I think the product would be better if there were a couple of small trays (maybe 4 or 6) that are half the size of the standard tray. This would give more options and make the product more desireable. For this - and for the price - I take one star away of what is otherwise a good quality item.

I used to have boxes of screws, nails, et al from each of my DIY projects. I would often go to the hardware store thinking I didn't have a particular screw type... of course... I did but it was buried among lots of other boxes. In my new FatMax world, simply grab the interconnected FatMax boxes and bring them all to the project area, separate the box that contains the item type you want, look for item through the clear lid, and lift out the inner box and take it to the area you're working in. Much much easier and satisfies my OCD.

I've got loads of these in deep and shallow. I've never had a better organiser and the ability to attach them together makes them very useful for grouping certain things (wall plugs, screws, bolts, plumbing fittings). Makes life a lot easier, especially with removable sections if you only need a couple of bits. Great build quality, thick solid plastic throughout with clear lids to easily see which organiser is needed. Only trouble is the price really.

This is really good - sturdy build, and you can take the individual compartments out, helping to avoid knocking the entire case off a shelf and losing the contents everywhere! If you're a hobbyist it's great as well - I bought this for my son, he's an X-Wing game player, and you can remove the existing compartments and put the plastic vehicle holders directly into the case as they're just about the right height!

As organiser storage boxes go these have to be the best ever. I had some of the older junior boxes made by Stanley and they have lasted for years but the catches were a little flimsy and the tops were nearly opaque. These new pro-organisers are brilliant, I now have 10 of them in different sizes for keeping all sorts tidy in the back of my truck. The fact that they lock together so well is an added bonus.

30.8.2018

Great storage box could maybe have done with dividers for tubs I use mine for nuts and bolts and some of the tubs only have a few nuts in them so a divider would have been ideal. Even if you could purchase more tubs you could swap the larger tubs for small ones. But apart from that I am really 8mpressed with the storage box I have just purchased a deeper one and love the fact you can clip boxes together.

14.2.2019

Great for storage, clear lid so you can immediately see what’s inside, durable, doesn’t mark things like metal boxes do, it’s a shame it doesn’t have steel latches to close like he deep version, but something I couldn’t seem to find an answer to till I bought This shallow box is, will it clip together to the deeper version? Answer? YES! at least the one I bought did anyhow, Great system!

2.4.2016

Perfect. Ideal for keeping all your fixings, wall plugs etc. tidy. The removable inner boxes mean you can just take what you need to the work area. I bought 4 and they neatly stack together, clip together even if you want to. Inner boxes are transferable between boxes enabling you to group similar items easily. Quality product.

9.4.2020

Tough, transportable cases for small parts, components, nuts, bolts and screws etc. The case are stackable and will lock together. They are so much better than the cheaper organiser cases from Stanley. So whilst more expensive this more than justified by the ease of use, durability and flexibility of these units.

29.9.2015

Really useful case. I particularly like that the compartments can be removed so only the screws you need for a job can be taken out of the case rather than lugging the whole case around. The other compartments then stay put because the lid holds them firmly in place. Seems very sturdy.

22.6.2016

Very sturdy and well-designed organiser whose lid clips solidly and reliably to the body. There are 4 clips in total, 2 by the handle and 2 at the sides, so the lid can't be deformed by the weight of the contents. And it certainly won't open accidentally!

18.1.2017

Love these boxes. The the removable inserts and clear polycarbonate lid makes a difference. For me this shallow FatMax Pro sits between the the two sizes of the ordinary Stanley organiser boxes which have now been branded Black & Decker.
