Ok, so I made the terrible mistake of buying 10 pencils for £1 recently at a £1 shop. Never again. These Staedtler beauties are on the other side the quality spectrum. The lead doesn't break when you sharpen the pencil, the quality of the wood used is such that it sharpens smoothly and cleanly, and with a lovely cedar aroma! These are superb pencils. Thoroughly recommended. Other reviewers wax lyrical about these legendary beauties and I can see why. I'm a total convert. They have a slightly softer lead that writes/draws darker than an HB. I have to say I also like the Staedtler HBs. You can't go wrong.I would say it's worth buying a staedtler pencil sharpener too as the blade is very good and the sharpener has obviously been designed specifically for these pencils in terms of the angle of lead etc. German attention to detail - you have to applaud them.

As Primary school teacher I've used 100s of different types of pencil in schools. These have ranged from the dreadful budget ones that a Head orders to save a few quid and we waste money because they will not sharpen, the woods rubbish and well you know the rest. You really do get what you pay for.As a Maths co-coordinator I realised that a harder lead would be better for Maths work especially in KS2 with shape and other fine work. So I ordered a few boxes of the H variety. The results were brilliant and the Maths books looked so much better. The children gained better results from them as wellThese are the best, Cedar wood so they sharpen a treat, good leads so they write and comfortable to the hand - they look neat too. They don't break as easily as a whole lot more made from softer and cheaper woods so you end up saving money in the long run.

I've been struggling to read standard HB pencils lately due to a minor visual impairment. It occurred to me that a darker pencil might help, and it has! These pencils are darker than my old HB pencils, but the trade off is that the lead is softer and wears down more quickly. The wood used is not very dense (it shreds too easily) which means my electric pencil sharpener has difficulty doing its job, although a standard, plastic manual one seems to cope OK, if I'm careful. As the price was quite low, and you get 12 in a box I won't quibble. When I run out of these (or run out of patience with the sharpening process) I might upgrade to a more expensive brand with better wood!If you just want a darker pencil (and have a manual pencil sharpener)these work very well.

I have used thousands of pencils (MOSTLY 2B) in my 50 years as a music writer: to claim to be a composer seems just a bit pompous for my skills!During that time I have developed fads for various pencils and had them sent to me by the dozen from USA, Switzerland, France and Germany.(Smiths (UK) own brand of pencil - they used to be purple colour but now pink - were the closest to the best of the bunch which is,has been and always will be STAEDLER.And, by the way, I can remove from my MSS paper any trace of a written error (or change of idea!)with my STAEDLER MARS plastic eraser and STAEDLER 2B's don't cry and break in my trusty electric pencil sharpener either!!Do I recommend them? What do you think?

...and the answer is that 2B pencils are what you want if you are using pencils on sailing charts (or indeed even maps for land-lovers).Why? Because they create a good mark but do not break the paper and also allow for easy erasing to plot new points. Why do you need pencils and charts in these days of electronic navigation systems? Because they are not always reliable even at the best of times and you absolutely need a back if any system fails. Anyway, it's also more fun. These Staedtler 2Bs are absolutely fine and do the job perfectly both for this use and for general use as well, although for writing purposes only an HB is probably a better bet (as they're harder).

ordered these 6B pencils for my 4 year old toddler who was finding it hard writing with the usual HBs ...his writing was quite faint as he was struggling to hold the pencil right...not being able to write was frustrating him...so i got these and now he seems quite enthusiastic...as they write very dark and glide effortlessly...staedtler is the best brand no doubt...got mine when they were only 3.81 for a box of 12...an absolute bargain!! the only gripe though is late dispatch..i ordered them with other staedtler stationery bundle for a super saver delivery...order placed 13 oct, dispatched 8 nov...but no issue with the product

These pencils are another great purchase from staedtler. They are very high quality pencils so the lead is secure and does’t fall out and they sharpen extremely easily. They feel comfortable in the hand and they are easy to write with. They look great and the red, black and gold colour scheme works nicely. They live up to their name as they feel like proper, traditional pencils which is excellent. The packaging is very compact and looks nice. It tells you all about the company and the pencils themselves in a lot of languages. This is an excellent product and I would highly recommend to everyone!

As a choral singer, I have to make notes on my scores and if they are library copies it's important to be able to rub these notes out. Using these 2B pencils make life SO much easier and there's barely a mark left on the page. I use them all the time in the family diary too, as making changes is so much neater, being able to rub out, rather than having to messily cross out biro.Having bought cheap pencils that break regularly when sharpened (even though I have an excellent sharpener) I found that by paying a little extra makes SUCH a difference.

I bought 2 boxes of these, being an A level physics student I needed something decent for drawing diagrams and equations properly. The lead is of good consistent quality throughout, and the point doesn't break off easily once you have sharpened it.The wood is also nice and smooth.I haven't bought anything else apart from these for ages now simply because nothing else is in this sort of league! No more supermarket stationary!Considering the quality the price is actually very good and you won't get cheaper in a high street store.D

I'm a uni student and part of my course involves lots of A3 still life drawing. I get through pencils really fast and on a student budget - can't afford to keep buying expensive supplies. These pencils are honestly great and prove that you don't need to buy expensive equipment to make good art! I always come back to buy these and definitely recommend them. These ones in particular are quite dark and soft, so if you want pencils for more precise drawing I recommend the 2B pencils from this brand also

The pencils are very good, as expected. Packaging was also good.I just want to report that the pencil box was not sealed but open and - given the vague description of the box - it is hard to know exactly the pencils you will find inside. I found the following pencils (in brackets how many of each type): 2H (1x), H (1x), HB (1x), B (1x), 2B (3x), 3B (1x), 4B (2x), 5B (1x), 6B (1x). This is not the full range of pencil types available (why to have three 2B pencils and not more H types for example?).

Staedtler calls this "a pencil", that is, nothing special. But Staedtler only makes awesome stuff. It is a slightly soft lead suitable for writing and art, but not for technical work (try Lumograph) As a designer, architect, artist I've always loved these best. They quick, and very easy to put down a nice dark line. The lead is bonded and doesn't usually break. The blunt end is painted so you don't get graphite on your hands. You can buy better, but for the money these are excellent.

I keep a dozen of these in a jar for marking music. When rehearsing with my freinds, they get passed round. They can also be found scattered around the house and workshop as they are excellent for very many other puposes. They have to be replenished frequently, mostly by being worn out with use, but I have a suspicion some have been welcomed into my freinds' houses.4B (or 3B) is perfect, but HB or B is too hard for music.

After my little boy's school teacher complained about him writing with pencils which weren't sharp enough I bought these for him. The kids pencils we had accumulated and even some Paperchase pencils I thought would be good quality, wouldn't sharpen properly. The leads broke far too easily. These staedler pencils sharpen really well and we haven't had a problem with leads breaking at all.

This is a classic of pencil design. The red and black stripes of the Staedtler 110 Tradition range are bold and eye-catching, whilst still remaining smarter and more elegant than the rather garish yellow and black of the Noris range. The Tradition also has a full 12 degrees, from 6B through to 4H, compared with the narrower range offered by the Noris (only 2B to 2H). I love this pencil.
