There's not a huge amount to say about a pencil but I'm a huge fan of the colours. Faber-Castell is an excellent brand that I've never had any concerns about quality with and this pencil is no exception. The mechanical pencil aspect works very well - you get about 1mm of the lead from a single click and the click itself is smooth yet obvious. Also, there's a nib at the end that retracts if pushed in. I'm not familiar with the feature but I assume that this is either control or to avoid the lead snapping. This pops back out fully when you click for more lead, regardless of how much it's been pushed in.The rubber on the end is a wonderful addition - this is a 4cm rubber that extends in the same way as a Pritt Stick or lip balm. It's a decent rubber, unlike many pencils that have rubbers on the end that will smudge. The rubber grip is nice to hold for me. My one nit-pick is that it would have been nice to have it rounded, rather than gripped in a triangle as the lead will follow the gradient that you're using. I assume artists accommodate for that though. The clip isn't very firm but it's not likely to break easily, which is good.. 1-2 sheets of paper probably won't grip well but if you slide it onto a clipboard (or something with similar thickness) it should hold well.Lastly, the lead itself is very smooth - you can tell it's a cut above the generic HB pencils that are purchased en masse.

Firstly the design of this pencil is very pretty, it is a nice shade of dark metallic red and not too bright (although the picture here makes it look pinker than what it actually is). It is a nice piece of professional looking equipment and whether you are a beginner or a professional artist it is a great addition to your art supplies. It is also very comfortable to hold and therefore easy to draw with, especially for very fine and technical line work - the rubber grip ensures that it does not slip from your hand or fingers and the sizing of it means your fingers rest comfortably when gripping it.I've found the quality of the lead is also superb; I've not had any breakages so far and the 'milage'of the lead is impressive - after a substantial amount of sketching I've found I've only needed to click a couple of times to extend the lead. It also has a little rubber on the top end (also of decent quality) that you can extend by twisting its holder. Overall this is a handy and neat little piece of equipment, great for sketchbook work or technical drawings. I will probably end up purchasing one in each colour!

To my eye this is a seriously ugly looking product. I nearly didn't buy it because the photo put me off. The other reviews persuaded me to try one and I'm so glad I did. This is the best mechanical pencil I've ever used by far and I've tried scores of different brands and models. The chunky design makes it extremely comfortable to hold and use for long periods of time. I think it ships with B grade lead (not 100% sure) but this combined with the 0.7mm diameter makes it very smooth to write with. So far the lead hasn't snapped once whilst writing. I'm pleased that the tip is retractable so I can carry it around in a pocket without stabbing myself. The twist eraser is just brilliant. Most of the mechanical pencils I've owned had a tiny eraser hidden beneath a cap that wore out in no time. I ended up having to keep a separate eraser around. No need for that any longer.I've only been using the pencil for about a week so I can't comment on durability. However the product seems very well made for the money and feels solid enough to me.I would recommend one to anybody.

I lost my old one of these and for a short while I decided to use a standard pencil. The trouble is that I use 2B, and I was sharpening the bloody thing every 10 minutes. So I quickly bought myself a replacement. Faber-Castell is such a good company that one knows their products will be reliable. Their leads (which I use, although one does not have to) are amazing; they never seem to break. This pencil is very easy to use. Pull off the top part, where the rubber is, throw in six or so leads and draw or write until the cows come home. The rubber itself is also high quality. It is not a "rubbish" rubber - I'm sure drawers will know what I mean. I think I mean that it doesn't strip away a layer of paper when you erase something.Replacements might be a bit dear, though.I feel a bit lost without this pencil. There are more expensive ones, but they get lost! This is a totally reliable propelling pencil.

Nicely chunky in the hand, this is a great pencil for writing. The eraser is much better than the "emergency-only" erasers typically found on mechanical pencils. The lead cushioning system works well without being too bouncy.I agree with Dave's Mechanical Pencils that this isn't the prettiest pencil around. I think the clip (including its collar) and the eraser holder could have been designed to look nicer. But in terms of function and price it's excellent.I own a bunch of mostly low-priced 0.5 mm pencils and one 0.9 mm (my mum's old Parker 51), but this is my first 0.7 mm. I can see why this lead diameter is the most popular, and I'd recommend it.

I was gutted when I lost one so I had to order another one as soon as I realised, in fact I'm tempted to order another just in case. This is a beautiful pencil to use and I can scribble away for hours in comfort thanks to the soft triangular grip and wider circumference. The whole thing feels like a quality, well made product that is substanstial but not too heavy. The leads included are very good quality as well and don't snap easily.I did try some cheaper leads in my last one and annoyingly one got jammed in the mechanisam but I found it was very easy to disassemble, remove the offending item and put back together again.

My elderly mother completes all her Puzzler puzzles, then, fortunately having a short memory, rubs them all out and does them again about 12 days later. This pencil with rubber is PERFECT for the job, and was given with a subscription to Puzzler Monthly. I also gave her some spare rubbers by the same makers. She is a happy bunny now.My mother says the pencil sits well balanced in the hand, and doesn't slip or make her hand ache. The lead doesn't get pushed up inside the propelling bit as she writes. I'd like one now, as every propelling pencil I've ever owned ,either was stolen or the lead started disappearing as I wrote.

I have four of these, just so that I know there will be one to hand when needed. Never travel without one. They are extremely comfortable to hold and write/draw with, sit well in the hand, and most importantly have a socking great eraser at the blunt end, which lasts for ages. The lead-holder retracts for protection. Over time the rubber grip may (has on a couple of mine) come a bit loose and the plastic clip start to wobble on the barrel, but the pencil just goes on and on. Not a technical drawing pencil, but for just about anything else where a 0.7mm lead is needed these are hard to beat at any price. Excellent.

Most mechanical pencils have a thin sharp tube through which the lead projects. This has a cone-like exit, which both makes it less susceptible to damage and conversely less damaging to pockets and bags it finds itself in. It's not too long - unlike many mechanical pencils. And the eraser is the modern not-much-mess kind. Oh, and it holds and writes well. I am ordering a second one for backup.[October 2013] Should have added that the pencil is quite heavy - as a result I have changed to something much lighter since writing the review.

I was looking for a clicker pencil for my Dad as he always uses cheap plastic ones and came across this Faber-Castell. After reading so many glowing reviews I decided to buy him a couple and myself one as well. I am extremely pleased with my purchase, the pencil is very well made and is very comfortable to write with. The clicker is solid and doesn't feel like it will break or anything and it come with an eraser on the end which you can twist like lipstick and it extends. He will get his at Christmas and I am sure he will be happy.

I am a pencil and pen freak. This is a very nice pencil. A bit thick and hefty, so not to everyone's taste. Especially if you're used to the Pentel drafting pencils we all grew up with. But well made. Love the big eraser and that the metal tip retracts so you don't put holes in your shirt pocket. But the astounding thing was that I ordered it for under 6 pounds with Prime delivery. And when it arrived it came it was actually FIVE of these pens in the box! An astounding bargain. Now I need to find four friends who need pencils.

As a former bed manager at a large city hospital I’ve used these pencil pens for years, unfortunately my old faithfully finally gave up the ghost after 6 years. Writes beautifully and love the large rubber on top of which you can replace. As for the company, excellent customer service ( very refreshing) obviously was supposed to arrive on a certain date but due to the present crisis arrived a little after date given. In fines the company as they asked me to review and they wanted an update in two days, not required as arrived.

This mechanical pencil, as the headline suggests, is absolutely wonderful. Compared to some mechanical and ordinary pencils, the Fabre-Castell Grip Plus is chunky enough to be comfortable whilst in use, but thin enough not to be too cumbersome. I usually get cramp in my hand with prolonged use of some pens and pencils. Whether I grip the implement too tightly, I’m not sure, but this pencil from Fabre-Castell allows me to use it for however long without the discomfort. I would recommend this product in a heartbeat!

Can't tell you how much I'm impressed with this pencil.I work in an office and use this every working day.The weight and thickness of the casing is perfect, and the actual lead a dream to use. No harshness just smooth on the paper.I know this may seem a lot more extravagant than the £1-2 mechanical pencils but theres no snapping lead every two minutes, no harshness or torn paper, so actually you're not using it up as quickly than the others.I'm sold on these now, no going back for me.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and find narrow pens, ball-pens and pencils to hold. This is just that bit "fatter" and has a triangular grip so easy to control. The trouble with most mechanical pencils is that they erasure they supply is ridiculously small and wears out too quickly. By contrast this has a sensible size erasure which extends by turning the barrel and spares are readily available. This is not the cheapest model on the market but in my opinion worth every penny!
