This is a genuine Sony NP-FZ100 battery. It's fairly expensive at £65 but probably worth it to have a good reliable battery that won't just fail prematurely, has a reliable indication of charge and is thus less likely to cause missed shots.I decided it was worth paying a full price for the genuine article, from a reliable vendor like Amazon (less risk of counterfeits). Also if you are using in a Sony a7r3 or r4 body then it avoids getting the 'nag screen' about battery being a risk etc. Much to like apart from the price. However some may prefer to pay less than 1/3 this price for 'reasonable' substitute generic cells. Some 'no-name' makes can be quite good, exhibit OK electrical characteristics and even though they likely won't work as well or last as long, still offer fair value as they can be replaced more affordably. Although low cost can offer fair value too, It's quite hard to separate reasonable quality from pure c**p cells. So unless you know a particular (usually a Chinese brand) make is good then it can be tricky business.Over many years of buying cheaper surrogate cells, for both Sony and Nikon cameras, I have never once found any that matched the OEM characteristics of Sony and Nikon branded cells. Many were OK but a few seemed to fail within 6 months and then refuse to charge, without much warning (i.e. no apparent prior trouble).Everybody has different needs and approaches to what constitutes 'fair value'. Finally I have concluded that for me, unless the OEM cells are outrageously priced, then it's probably worth stumping up the extra to buy the real thing.Worst of all situations is to try and save circa 20-40% on what seems like a good deal OEM battery and risk receiving a counterfeit cell. These will often be a lot worse than the average surrogate 'no-name brand' cells and should always be avoided. Old adage about "if it sounds to good to be true then it probably isn't" is worth bearing in mind. I have previously attempted to save a little by buying on eBay. The counterfeit cell I received was cosmetically very good and difficult to spot on appearance alone. Careful checking, weighing and in-camera diagnostics all pointed to a counterfeit so I asked for (and got) a full refund (n.b. eBay won't knowingly stand for counterfeits either, but arguably it's easier for 'dodgy' stock to find it's way to you via eBay than Amazon).Nowadays I try to only buy OEM batteries (same for memory cards too) only from a reliable UK main dealer or from Amazon (both of whom try hard to ensure their stocks are legitimate). In summary it's expensive, but once the pain of paying 'top dollar' has passed the pleasure of using reliable OEM kit persists.

What can you realistically say about this battery? I have a Sony A9 now and whilst the battery life is MUCH improved. Firstly it's still not enough to see me through an entire wedding. I need a second. At first I baulked at paying £75 for a battery when in the past I always used non-OEM batteries but there's basically nothing else available. So in the context of the cost of the camera, I bit the bullet and purchased two more. It's never a good idea to rock up to a wedding with only a single battery. If it fails you're left up the proverbial creek. As painful as it is to swallow paying £75 for a battery. Right now if you are a Sony A9 owner, you've basically not got much other choice.

The NP-FZ100 is a great upgrade from the previous NP-FW50 which were used in the older model cameras such as the A7R2; so it's good to see Sony for the A73 & A9 series of cameras, had improved the battery, greatly increasing battery life.I can go a good day just on one battery, but as always, it's always good to have a spare. Only downside is they are expensive, but so are all cameras batteries... At least these ones are worth the money.

These are great batteries, although expensive. One will last for a day of shooting. Generic batteries do work but Sony has used a firmware update for a7riii to generate a nag screen about “incompatible “ batteries. The same update prevents the camera from displaying the percentage of battery power left.So if you want to avoid the behaviour I just described with generic batteries, buy this Sony battery instead, as I did.

I bought this after having used an A7R 2 which I needed multiple batteries for. However this newer Z battery lasts so much longer. I'm using mine with an A7 III, but this battery is the same for the A9 and A7R III. Having bought it I've not actually managed a day to drain a single battery, but I guess it's good to have 2.

Whilst this is a huge upgrade from the previous generation, you'll still need a spare.I've tried various off-brand batteries, but even the more expensive ones can't match these for capacity and don't hold their charge so well. They're expensive, but they're worth every penny.

These batteries are the real thing and do not seem to be fakes (a problem that occurs more than it should). They are a well made Sony product and function perfectly in my Sony A7RIII and now Sony A7RIV, giving me the life expectancy I expect.Thoroughly recommended.

I bought this to go with a7III and lenses. Battery life almost twice as good as my existing a6500 and I doubt I will need to have two or three spares - one spare should be sufficient.Last full day shoot, very happy with this purchase. No complaints!

27.11.2018

I'm sure it's genuine which is great considering how many fakes there are for other brands.Once I charged it up, popped it in the camera and all is good. Not much else to say really because batteries are pretty reliable nowadays.

great batteries, yes, they are expensive but they are a solid long lasting battery. if you can spend 2000 on a a7iii you should be bale to buy these batteries.

It's the original Sony battery, so it works as it should.I find the Patona to be near equal (60 shots less roughly) for less than half the price.

Sony battery for new pro cameras - A9 and A7R3 so far. Much better capacity, but the price is extortionate because they can get away with it.

great value original battery brand new at the cheapest price I have seen thanks for a great service next day delivery

The battery life on these are EXCELLENT, can do nearly a days shoot with one battery!! (Sony A7iii)

I must say I do like the original battery they last longer than third party ones that I also have.
