*Update - 2020*So in my old review, I said we had four of these. Well over the last few years, our collection has now increased to eleven! Yes! Eleven. So as you can guess. We like these. A lot.We use them professionally for wedding videography and whilst they were not designed for this purpose. They do lend themselves REALLY well to it.Their small size means you can hide them discretely on the man's jacket. As you can see from the photo. We can tuck it behind the fold of the suit jacket if it isn't our primary source of audio. If it is. It still looks pretty discrete sticking out of the jacket pocket. If the guy isn't wearing a jacket, you can stick it on his waistcoat. We've even now got some black elastic which we can use to attach it to the venue's microphone. I mean if we are allowed to, we'd rather tap into the DJ's soundboard and take a clean feed but if we're not this is more than good enough. For ladies who might be speaking or doing a reading these are ideal since you don't have to route a lapel mic up a lady's dress then find there's no pockets to put the recording device. The Sony clips onto most dresses. We don't use these on the bride. No bride will wear one of these! It wont match the dress :PSound quality isn't quite as good as lapel mic but the minimal drop in quality is more than made up for by convenience. Without cables and separate voice recorders. You can mic your subject up in seconds. This is far less threatening to the worried person about to speak than trying to thread a lapel mic through his shirt/suit. Try lav'ing up a grumpy registrar or vicar. But they generally will accept wearing one of these without fuss. You can also just throw a few spares TX650's on tables nearby as backups to your backups. They are really simple to use. Complete with a hold switch so you don't have to worry about them being accidentally turned off.Audio as mentioned is great quality for what it is. I really hope one day Sony replace the headphone socket with a microphone one instead. That would be the icing on the cake for us. Oh yeah that reminds me. Best put this as a warning in case people get confused.** The 3.5mm port on this is for headphones. It is not a microphone socket! **The TX650 supports all the usual MP3 bitrates as well as LPCM 44.1Khz 16Bit files. I never use wav. I use 192Kbps just cos the file sizes are so much smaller and easier to work with. Auto recording levels means you don't have to worry about anyone speaking too loudly or too close (within reason) and clipping the audio. Again, just makes life a little easier for you.Battery life is excellent. Fully charged they can last for about 12 hours so no chance of them running out mid ceremony as long as you've charged them up before the wedding. Which you always do don't you......The microUSB port at the bottom is for charging and transferring of files. We've found that some USB cables don't work and as a result are not recognised on our mac. My advice is to label the cable that works, so that you know which is which. For a small voice recorder it's not the cheapest by any stretch. But given the small form factor and ease of use. I've yet to find something comparable. This is why these have got a cult like following amongst wedding videographers.Ultimately, if you are in a controlled environment where quality is everything. Take your time and use a lav. However, for weddings where it is often chaotic, time is short and people nervous. These are so flexible that you will wonder how you ever managed before!

This is by far the best portable recorder you can get in my opinion.First things first, quality is perfectly fine for voice recording, meetings, interviews and the occasional vlog voiceover in the field, this is not designed for hi-fi, concert, music, singing...The PROs are:- PORTABLE... I would say it is so small it can barely be noticed in a jacked pocket, worn as a lapel mic or even handheld. It is tiny and has a built in clip. Light but solidly built.- INSTANT on, it start immediately from cold, this is massive, no boot times, as this means no lost recordings.- USB connection with a cable, compared to other Sony recorders which have a weak spot in the slide out USB which can be awkward and break easily.- Good interface and screen.Visible in bright light and simple to understand, minimalistic and clear controls.MEH:The headphones provided are horrible. Took them and chucked them. Nearly useless, crackle and distort sound.CONS:No microphone jack for a line in. You cannot use an external microphone or lavalier with this... but to be honest it is so small itself that you really do not need this and to record any large XLR mic you should use a professional multi-track recorder anyway.Ultimately highly recommended, just keep an eye out for blemishes on the outer case of the item as Amazon seems to be selling refurbished products as new and I found a clear scuff mark due to it being pried open likely to be repaired. It seems to be working well, but was not happy about this and complained.

After trying another microphone and being unhappy with the quality, we used this microphone to record our wedding. The audio quality turned out fantastic! My husband wore it in his suit pocket next to his pocket square and you cannot see it in any of the photos. We had it on continuously for an hour and the battery didn't even drop a line, plus it was super easy to use and I love that it has a button hold switch, so you cannot accidentally turn it off. There are also tons of youtube videos that show the best settings for different situations so I'd recommend looking those up. I used a free video editing software to match up the audio with our video, which was recorded on a phone, and it all turned out great. Definitely highly recommend!

I needed these for capturing audio during weddings. These little (yes incredible so) things are amazing. Super quick to deploy.. literally press Record and it powers on and starts recording. No messy settings required, it just records clear audio. Perfect for use on Ladies too as it is discreet enough to pop into their dress/outfit (unlike Lav mics.Audio is great, needs a little Bass adding in Post, but thats it. It has a number of settigns that can be made in the menu, but once done, are always selected each time it powers on. Saves in MP3 or WAV.. what more could you need?... well it turns out i need MORE, and MORE.. do got more :)

This was a luxury for me but it’s handy to have such a tiny recorder for those Eureka moments. You can wear it all day clipped to your shirt pocket while you practice your Connery accent. Nobody will notice either. Beautifully designed and very strong but it does have the limitations of its size and you may need glasses to operate it. Pity you can’t record via cable. The speaker is for monitoring only and you really need to listen to the recording on earphones. Sound is excellent. Some nerds use this for filming weddings but all that is beyond me as is the interface with your actual PC.

Bought this after youtuber Adam Wing recommended it for wedding videography, worked great, and they are so tiny and discreet. Love that it only takes seconds to set up on a groom or officiant, rather than having to take time hiding the typical zoom h1 with lapel, and hiding the wire. Auto level feature worked like a charm. No wind noises even though the ceremony was outdoors. Voice quality isn't perfect, nor would I expect it at this price and form factor, but the quality was more than good enough for a typical wedding videography film.

i already had one and this is a great machine but i had to return this Amazon warehouse deal as it wasn't working and did not switch on. It clearly hadn't been checked, and it also had recordings on it from the last owner which had not been wiped! Unusually very poor service from Amazon, which cost me £10, as the new model i then bought from Amazon had gone up this amount meanwhile. However, Amazon did handle the return and product refund well enough, although i think they shoudl have given me the £10 for goodwill.

This device is fantastic! I use it to aid in my wedding videos when I can't get close enough to the couples. Set device to voice activated, clip it to grooms pocket and poof! I get crystal clear voices of bride, groom and the efficient, and any other sounds in the area. Navigating menu is tedious at first until you get used to it. Tiny LCD screen. So small and light you forget your wearing it. Plenty of memory. Long battery life. Can even solar charge it or usb powerbank.

It’s only flaw, as impenetrable to water as it looks, is that it is highly susceptible to water damage and won’t dry out. After losing a few to the washing machine I’ve placed a reminder over the controls to check my pockets.Used daily, I keep it simple, I hit record then stop and don’t worry about any other features or design choices. At the end of the day i manage my recordings by transferring them to a computer for great playback.

These little beauties are awesome. We use them as wedding videographers for speakers during a ceremony and for the speeches. It’s as simple as pressing record, locking the unit in hold and clipping in a pocket or to a dress. With the 15 hour+ Record time I could place it on the speakers at the beginning of the wedding and just forget about them if needed.

This thing is great. Picks up my voice & other person's voice even when zipped away in my winter coat. Battery life is amazing and it is super light. Only thing I recommend is some MP3 editing software on your PC/Mac to edit the sound files post-recording. Lots of free ones out there. Love this gadget.

This is the 4th one of these we have bought - we are a wedding videography company and use them to attached to guests for readings, speeches, vow etc. The quality is superb, battery life amazing, recording time is huge - cannot recommend highly enough!!

I wasn't sure at first but after seeing a unit in operation I took the plunge. Amazing! I now have 3 and will be buying more. It's easy to use and the audio quality is excellent. If nothing else they are a great piece of audio kit to have as a backup.

It's tiny!!! It's perfect for recording my lectures at uni. It's so simple to work too, I stumbled across some recordings my 3 year old made!! My friend works at Apple and is very into tech and he was blown away by it.
