This Philips DVT1150 Digital Voice Recorder might not have the look of my old-style Olympus mini-cassette analogue voice recorder but it is cheaper, doesn't need tapes and it has many more modern features than my older model. For around thirty pounds you get a device that is an easy-to-use conventional voice recorder that has some useful features like one-touch recording, voice-activation and time-stamped recording where the date and time of your recordings are added to the sound file. This model has 4 GB of internal memory (you can't add any more however) and comes supplied with two AAA batteries, a micro USB cable and instructions; battery life could be around sixty hours and built-in recording capacity over 1000 hours.Sound recording and playback are via a built-in microphone and speaker (or personal listening via the 3.5mm headphone jack) and it can also be connected to your computer without any additional software being required. This device also functions as a basic music player/recorder, should that be a function you require, and it can play WAV format files. This is a good value recorder that features everything you need for portable recordings and is recommended to anyone looking for a modern and handy way to record memos, lectures, conversations or Lo-Fi music. The Philips DVT1150 is perfect for beginners, students and those who are about to start using a digital voice recorder for the first time – an ideal device to use when you may choose not to use the audio recorder function on your expensive Smartphone.

I have been asked to test this item and submit an impartial review. While this small voice recorder is relatively intuitive to use, and ships with a Quick Start Guide, to get the best from it you really will have to download the operator's manual from Philips web page. The download is straightforward and will give you a blow-by-blow account as to how to customise the gadget for your own particular needs. Weighing in at just under 3 ounces and measuring approximately 4 x 1.5 x .5 inches, it will slip easily into a pocket or small bag for instant use. It needs two AAA batteries to make it work and Philips have kindly supplied them. With 4 GB of internal memory,it will store considerable voice recordings and 4 internal folders will help you organise them if need be. My prime use will be to assist in improving pronunciation of the foreign language I am learning at present, so most recording will be quickly disposed off. The actual recording quality is impressive, however, and I like the fact that you can set it up for voice activation allowing hand free recording. Its finish and build quality are also impressive and the digital display is high resolution and easy to read. It is not supplies with a case, but the design allows for a carry cord to be fitted (also not supplied). It does ship with a 10 inch USB cable allowing connection to a Window or Mac operated computer for external storage needing no further software. I find it much superior to my other small recorder and think it competitively priced in a lively market.

I bought this Philips Voice Tracer to record sightings and notes of plants and birds when I go walking for my nature journal. Up until now I used an app on my phone but it drained the battery very quickly. I understand the battery life is very good but haven't used it for long enough to comment about that, except it's way better than my phone. This voice recorder is perfectly good for what I want and fits very neatly into a pocket. I have used it a couple of times now. It is easy to miss out the start of a recording, but I just need to adjust and wait a moment before speaking. Instructions do need to be looked at to set some features like voice activation and turning off the beep. There are other features such as indexing recordings which I have not yet looked at.The sound quality is fine - you can set it for close range which is what I use, and for longer distance. I recorded a Reed Warbler and was pleased with the result. It is not intended to be used for meetings or lectures.I use it for many short recordings - turning it on and off many times in the course of a couple of hours - and found it has a very audilble click at the end of each one which is a little irritating. I'm hoping that now I've discovered how to set up voice activation that issue will be solved.Overall, I'm very pleased with this - a useful addition to my nature walks.

We already own the Sony ICD-PX333 and in comparison the Philips DVT1150 looks very similar. One of the major differences is the lack of external storage space so you are restricted to the 4GB internal memory but this should give over 1000 hours of recording time so depending on its purpose, that could easily be sufficient for many. The device is light with most of the weight probably from the 2 x AA batteries (supplied) and easily held in the palm of your hand. You can’t really accidently switch it on or off as you need to hold it down (or it will automatically switch off when not in use). There’s a 44 second pre-recorded message just to thank you for your purchase and where to find further info (on the website). The recording is clear in a quiet environment (and when held close to the person speaking) but I do find it picks up background noises quite easily too. I love the fact you can save recordings into 4 different folders to keep them organised (just have to remember which one contains what). It is a plug and play and took about 30 seconds to install on my laptop from where you then have access to manuals and the recordings in each folder. This one is good value but I would really only use this at home for my personal use rather than in a professional environment as the Sony definitely out performs it.

The Phillips voice tracer is very easy to use, due to the one touch recording and voice activation that allows you to record hands-free. The product comes with two AAA batteries and a USB cable you can use to access your recordings on your laptop. You can download the files well within a minute on your laptop without downloading any additional software. The recording is generally clear, although in louder and busier environments it can pick up background noise. However in a quiet environment, like a university lecture or work meetings, it would be a very useful and handy device to have. You can play back your recordings via the built-in microphone and speaker, or you can listen through headphones via the headphone jack. The device is, as advertised, very lightweight and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It weights barely anything which is useful for when you need to carry it with you.It holds 4GB of memory and there isn't external storage space like some recorders have. However this should give over 1000 hours of recording time which I believe would be a sufficient amount for personal use which I think this device is made for.

I use this recorder to keep a record of meetings at work so everyone can remember (or not dispute) what has been agreed! It’s really simple to set up, and much easier than trying to do it using computers. It’s really just a matter of pressing a couple of buttons to start the recording. You then can connect to a PC with a standard charging cable and copy the files from the device as though it were a memory stick. There is plenty of recording time on the device to last through dozens of meetings, but I usually copy them quite quickly onto more permanent storage so I've never got anywhere near filling it.The device does pick up people’s voices quite well. There is a bit of background noise as well, but it’s usually good enough to hear what is being said.My only gripe is that it uses normal batteries. As you have to plug it into a charging cable it seems obvious to combine the file transfer operation with charging. Yes, you can get rechargeable AAA batteries instead of disposable ones but they are a lot less convenient. I'd happily pay a little bit more (if that is what it takes) to get the extra convenience of a rechargeable unit.

LIGHT======It's a light digital voice recorder which works fine.TAPES======I used to use one that used tapes and this is similar in terms of feel and quality. It's simply to use: record, plug into your computer and the audio files transfer.BIG===No. It's quite discreet. I used at a lecture rather than take laborious notes. I was then able to play it into some software : a speech to text. (that was 80% accurate)SOUND=======I am very happy with the sound quality. It's clear and accurate. For speech it's fine. To record music it's not so good. (Although it's difficult to record music on any device.)It comes with a USB cable and 2 AAA batteries.

This is being used by my youngest son who is autistic and in his final year before his GCE exams in 2018.It's easy to set up and it's just a button to record which is great for simplicity no faffing at all.He can drop lectures and notes effortlessly onto his mac and transfer onto his iPhone or iPad.The voices and ranges he has picked up in classroom situations is brilliant, crystal clear and will help him no end with revision. Easily distracted by noise he can leave the classroom for downtime and know that he has missed nothing at all.Amazingly useful tool or device, excellent price point, does exactly what it promises with aplomb.

Great quality sound recording very clear ! & no need to hold the unit close to your face the mic picks up from a distance, also very easy to use with one touch recording, coloured led's give clear indication of operational state ie red to indicate recording green to indicate playback & deleting unwanted files couldn't be easier just hold trash and when prompted "del-one" just hit the record button to delete last recording or any selected one, you also have the option to delete all at once.

This dictation machine is brilliant it has a nice slim design easy to carry around in your pocket. The pictures I have taken so you can see the true size is on an A4 piece of paper and next to a standard biro pen. I tested this while the Hoover was on just outside my door I spoke into the recorder and when I played it back my voice was loud and clear. I also tried recorded in a quiet room and there was no feedback noise from the machine. Really is a great buy !

I really struggle to remember things due to having fibromyalgia brain fog. This has really helped me a lot!Very easy to use, with its one touch recording and voice activated recording. If you're using it for business purposes, there is a pc/laptop link via USB to back up what you need. The sound quality is great! Comes with batteries included in the box as well as instructions and a usb cable so it has everything you need!Highly recommended!

I thought Voice Recorders were for old people from the 70's.....think again. Great Value and feature rich and never again do I have to forget anything. Just hold the button and download your thoughts, notes, lyrics or melody straight in the recorder. Better still, plug it straight into the PC and download the recording. Want to translate it into text...no problem, Philips have a handy app, or you can use this with Dragon Software (sold separately).

Compact and bijoux! Things have come on a long way since my dictaphone and tape days in the NHS (ooooh err matron!) . If you're after a no- nonsense simple device for your dictations then look no further as this will tick all the boxes. Ok so most of us have mobile phones and a simple recording app will do for most but for those with a specific need for this type of device won't complain. It's well made, has good functionality and battery life.

I have a similar product to this little note taker. It is all electronic, takes discreet recordings, either overtly or covertly, with very few controls. Battery life may be important, it uses AAA batteries, which have a small capacity. It can, however, be transferred to a PC or Mac using the USB connection, and it contains a spoken guide to its use, if you need to use it immediately. The quality is adequate for recording music, but not hi-fi.

I found this machine quite easy to function. The instructions were clear and they are accessible online if you need a quick reminder. The recording and playback are very clear and crisp. It is a robust machine. The on/off switch ensures that there isn't any non-accidental pressing, if you were to keep it in your pocket. It has an excellent capacity for storing recordings. Batteries are supplied and they last well.
