Sonic Lost World, greatly deviates from the previous 3d sonic formula, ditching the high speed, boost oriented gameplay, for a greater balance between speed and platforming, which I can say certainly works well, moving the sonic series in a positive direction.Sonic Lost World Begins with our spiky blue hero, Sonic the Hedgehog and his sidekick Tails, giving chase to the evil dr eggman (or robotnik if you prefer), as he is up to his usual nefarious self, abducting innocent woodland creatures to use as an energy source to power his various badniks in an attempt at creating a robotic army to bring him one step closer to world domination! After an unsuccessful attempt at freeing the helpless animals sonic crash lands on a mysterious new planet, dubbed the lost hex which is split up into multiple segments. after venturing though the green hill style windy hill zone, sonic eventually meets up with a new, deadly threat literally! that go by the name of the deadly six, who after being freed from eggman's control, proceed to swear vengeance on eggman and the rest of the planet for their temporary imprisonment; through turning eggman's robots against him and anyone else that stands in their way, with their mysterious mechanical controlling prowess. The story won't wow you, coming off as the basic: bad guys want to take over the world, but it is aimed towards a younger audience, as it's more reminiscent of a Saturday morning cartoon, but it does a good enough job to keep the game flowing! Now with the story out of the way, let's get to the most important aspect the gameplay!Sonic has a number of upgrades to his control scheme, including being able to speed up or slow down depending on whether the R button is held, which allows for sonic to more carefully traverse the landscape, avoiding bottomless pits and running head on into enemies. Another of his new abilities includes the parkour system, where he can gain horizontal or vertical distance depending on the situation if he runs into a wall at a fast enough speed, which works fantastically when trying to reach new areas, and take shortcuts; alongside his returning spindash, bounce and homing attack which has been slightly tweaked to target multiple enemies (Hint: when dealing with bigger enemies, wait for three arrows to appear when targeting the enemy to unleash a more powerful homing attack!).Throughout the game, you will travel across 7 diverse zones, such as a tropical beach and an arid desert just to name a few, each complete with 3 acts and a boss stage(there are also special stages exclusive to the 3ds version, where you can collect chaos emeralds). Some of the stages feature short puzzles which are vital for you to progress to the next area, such as pushing a snowball to fill a hole, or using the returning wisp abilities to move about, which can sometimes slow down the pace but doesn't usually last for too long. If you're finding the game too difficult, there's a "hold your hand" type feature if you die enough times, where you'll get an item that will help you through the stage, such as invincibility or a flying hover craft! You can also create those said items in Tail's workshop, which can be activated during stages via the 3DS' touchscreen.Positives and Negatives:All in all, without making this review too long or giving away spoilers, Sonic Lost World is a very enjoyable game, which has a great balance between speed and platforming with some key positives including:+ Great use of the R button to adjust Sonic's speed+ Parkour system allows for greater exploration+ Still very fast gameplay when using all of Sonic's abilities+ Some Wisp abilities are well integrated into the gameplay enhancing the experience+ Online multiplayer racing and battle mode adds to the replay value+ Nice colourful in game graphicsbut it still has its faults such as:-Underwhelming Easy Boss battles-Gyroscope feature used in special stages and with some wisps can get very annoying and difficult to use when out and about-May take a while to get used to the controls (Feels a bit slippery compared to the Wii U)-Stages not as diverse as the Wii U version-Some mechanics feel directly taken from Mario Galaxy (Although this works to the game's advantage in some cases!)-Some levels can really slow down the gameplay grinding you to a near haltAfter seeing so many negative reviews, I kept having that "am I playing the same game that they're talking about" feeling, and felt that I had to give this game the credit it's due. I can say that this is a fantastic Sonic game and a great addition to anyone's 3ds game library! My overall score 4.5/5 uh... gold ringsThanks for readingCheck out OutlawClient on youtube for some more, in depth gaming reviews!

Well well well, my old friend, the exploration-based Sonic game. How I missed you.I am so happy this game exists. I've been badly missing Sonic games that had more focus on exploration (like Sonic Adventure and its sequel) than RUN REALLY FAST. (Don't get me wrong, I loved Generations, but I like a little variety in my gameplay). This game focuses a lot on parkour and 3D platforming (may I say I how wonderful it is to see this genre returning?). Sonic's typical running style has been overhauled but still retains his trademark moves, and even a few oldies that have returned! The main change is that Sonic doesn't gradually gain speed until going full tilt; rather, he goes from walking to a jog,and by holding down the R button, you speed up. Now, this sounds like a weird idea, but it actually works really well. It's easy to step down your speed instantly, and makes it easier to get across certain areas quickly. I've heard a lot of people complain that it takes too long to get used to, but I've been playing Sonic games for years, and I took to it in minutes.Sonic also has some new tricks like running up walls and gripping ledges (well, these have appeared to some degree in earlier games, but I digress), which makes for some interesting exploration. The Wisp powers from Colours have also returned, and many older ones have new abilities depending on where you use them. The great thing about the game is, because there's so many ways to explore, there's lots of ways to get through a level and lots of new things to see!The game is split into a number of themed hub worlds plus several levels branching off from them. The level designs have some nice new features that distinguish them from other games, such as being able to explore the beautiful cavernous interior of the forest-based area. At the end of each hub is a boss battle set on a small planetoid-like arena.Aside from the 3D platforming segments, there are also the obligatory 2D sections. These also have some nice new innovations thanks to Sonic's new skills, but there are some bizarre issues with it that I really need to point out. For one, Sonic's spin dash isn't momentum-based any more - basically, if you were to roll down a hill and hadn't charged it enough, you would stop after a few metres rather than gaining momentum and carrying on rolling down the hill. This can be quite jarring for those of us used to the older games' physics. In addition, during the third boss battle, there seems to be a rather worrying glitch where the battle takes place on a ring-shaped arena, and when you move left or right, Sonic will just STOP MOVING for no apparent reason. This can happen in any place and without warning - and it's a boss you need to stay on your toes and be able to move away from. Jumping still works but actually moving from the spot you're on takes some time. I've tried this fight with both the circle pad and the d-pad and the problem occurs either way. I don't know if other people have had this problem or if Sega will patch it, but keep an eye out for it. The boss is relatively easy but that control glitch can be very frustrating. The special stages are a mess. I'm sorry, awesome game, but there's no other way to say it. It uses the 3DS' gyroscopic system which means lots of arm flailing just to try and line Sonic up to collect coloured orbs. There's a way to realign the camera, but it takes up valuable seconds that you need for getting the Chaos Emerald. So far it seems you get plenty of time, but I can't say for later stages yet.The story seems to be very enjoyable so far. I was disillusioned with Sonic Colours' childish story where I didn't feel motivated to continue, and Gens' lack of a plot. I understand Sonic is a kid's series, but there is no reason why a kid's game can't have a story that's enjoyable for adults too. Lost World seems to be dealing with more character development and we see a return of characters who haven't shown up much lately, which is rather lovely. The villains seem to be pretty interesting too, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the story will wrap up.As always for Sonic games, the music is lovely with some nods to previous games' music, and the graphics are gorgeous, bright and colourful. There seems to have been some problems with converting the Wii U version's cutscenes to the 3DS, and it has lost a LOT of quality and looks very fuzzy in some cutscenes, but the majority of them hold up nicely. All in all, this game's a gem. The gameplay is challenging and has plenty of in-level puzzles to keep you on your toes, lots of things to discover, and is just ridiculously enjoyable. Just watch out for some minor issues.

I purchased this for my grandson and although I am a regular IT user I have never been remotely interested in the games side of computers. However I was talked into having a trial run by my grandson and was amazed how quickly the time passed and also how sophisticated the graphics were of this particular game. I can now understand why my daughter has to limit the time the kids spend on this type of thing. If only someone could come up with a format to make the essential school curriculum as addictive, they would be on to a real winner.

I brought his game for my boyfriend after him going on and on about how awesome it is and how badly he wanted to play it.The sweet side of me came out and instead of selfishly buying makeup brushes and eyeshadow I decided to buy him this.It came fast from amazon and was well packaged. He loved it, i cant personally say much about the game play besides it looked pretty good on the screen.

My grandson would not look at anything else after he got this game. We literally had to force him to leave it alone and eat his dinner. He ate with a furry and when allowed he went straight back to the game.

A fun, solid sonic game - the best I've played in years. My only complaint is the difficulty for what should be a fast-paced casual game. Therefore I recommend only for those 10+.

Sonic lost world is a alright game. It starts with a video and then you start playing the game. The game is a bit repetitive.
