Sloe Gin is not a drink that everyone will be familiar with - non Gin lovers will shy away from trying it. This is a mistake as, although gin based, infusing the gin in sloes for a few months produces a delicious drink which has little in common with neat gin. Come autumn we scour the hedgerows for sloes and make our own sloe gin, but having sampled Sipsmith's version I have come to appreciate that we are merely amateurs in this game!In colour Sipsmith's is surprisingly light, equivalent to a less than full bodied red wine. However, the first mouthful is an explosion of taste and this really is the best version of this classic drink I have come across.I suspect that this has a lot to do with the fact that the gin used is Sipsmith's London Dry Gin, which is at the premium end of the market and which my wife and I recently discovered. It has quickly become our favourite gin and if you check out the price per bottle of that tipple it makes sense of the pricing of their sloe gin. Manufacturers often use inferior gin to make sloe gin and the result really does not compare. My wife and I are not lovers of sweet sickly liqueurs and we thought that the sweetness here was well balanced and not a dominant feature of the drink at all. It's a fine dividing line between producing sloe gin which is over or under sweet, but I would say the folk at Sipsmith's had got it about right. If you have not tried this you are in for a real treat. Our only criticism was that the bottle did disappear rather quickly - we put it down to evaporation at altitude - after all we do live up a hill!

I've always enjoyed an nice long G&T, but until now i've never tried any of the flavoured gins which seem to be flooding on to the market at the moment. I probably wouldn't have tried it on the off-chance as it would be quite an expensive mistake if i hated it, but as Vine are buying this round, I'll give it a go. Cheers!First impression - nice bottle, nice light golden colour. Cork sealed with orange wax, looks classy (nice gift). Open and sniff. Definitely smells orangey, like a bitter orange marmalade. Take a sip before adding anything - strong, but almost drinkable straight. Could probably drink without tonic, with just a couple of icecubes, which i'd never do with my usual gin. So,dilute with about 2 parts ice-cold tonic water to 1 part gin and sample. Quite highly flavoured, orange really hits in the taste, but the chocolate (cacao if you insist) comes more as an aroma, sort of an aftertaste. More of a 'sipping' drink than a long G&T - I've found myself using far less tonic in this than my usual 'straight' gin. Interesting, and pleasant enough, but one's enough, really, due to the slight sweetness. Didn't feel the urge for a second. In that respect, I guess it's more like an aperitif. It's down to personal taste, obviously. I'll finish the bottle and enjoy it from time to time, but I think it will last me a while, and I doubt I'll buy it again. Can't fault the quality or presentation, so if you enjoy these flavoured gins, give it a go.

I am obviously the wrong person to ask about flavoured gins, as to me they all taste like... gin! Now, don’t misunderstand me, I like gin. In fact G&T has become one of my favourite tipples, but having tried many gins now, the only flavour I can detect without a shadow of a doubt is juniper. I’m not even convinced the brand of tonic makes that much of difference.... I know, heresy right? The most important thing for me is that it’s ice cold and has ice floating around in it and usually a slice of lemon, but interestingly grapefruit is also a great addition. This one is apparently orange and cacao, but to me it’s juniper and maybe something else. If Sipsmith wanted me to taste the orange and cacao, then perhaps they shouldn’t have laced it with such a big hit of juniper. It looks nice, the bottle is pretty, it has a nice wax seal and wooden stopper and makes a great G&T, I’m just not convinced it’s that orange and cacao-ish. Perhaps I’m just not making my G&T strong enough.Interesting really, as I don’t believe gin is that strong a flavour without the juniper, so you’d think it’d be easy to make a flavoured one, much like flavoured vodkas that really do taste flavoured. Perhaps the makers feel if you dial down the juniper then it’s not recognisably gin. Who knows? Anyway, to me it’s a nice gin, but not that much different to the rest.

As a lover of spirits, and orange, when I saw this gin I had to get it. My partner loves gin and clean spirits, and I prefer a good, flavoursome spirit, so this will make for a nice evening drink for us in the new year and something to enjoy together.Pros:- Lovely design and branding from Sipsmith - we'll be keeping the bottle after we finish it- Zesty orange flavour which is refreshing and super citrusy, it also smells of sweet orange- Crisp flavour that in tandem with the botanical nature of the gin makes for an amazingly smooth drink, it has the expected burn but isn't like fire- Nice wax seal around the cork stopper which is a lovely, expensive touch- Good, expected price for this sort of quality and quantity of gin (40% too)- Tastes extra nice freezing cold with iceCons:- None - just be aware it is unboxedOverall, this gin is just lovely. It goes down a treat, smells and tastes great and is dangerously good. If you intend to have it as a mixer you'll want to be careful! So as a treat for yourself or a gift for a friend, this is a great, aromatic and sweet orange zesty gin.

I definitely consider myself a gin connoisseur, I have at least 30 in my collection and have tried most of the Sipsmith range which are reliably all delicious. This one has a simple presentation with the classic wax seal- this time in orange, and the ‘swan neck’ label is orange with oranges depicted. The gin itself is a golden colour.Flavour is delightful. I don’t believe gins should ever be drunk neat (even if they don’t take your head off that way) because it’s only with the addition of tonic or lemonade that the flavours are properly released and discernible from each other.I drink mine with tonic and the first sip, mixed with Fevertree Mediterranean was surprisingly smooth with a background sweetness and a very citrusy orange that I found delightful.I could also taste the ginger but nothing the vanilla or the dark chocolate. When I added a small wedge of tangerine to it, the sweet orange flavour intensified and I found the background vanilla. Delicious. Can’t wait to try the recipe ideas on the neck-tag but I need to restock my sugar syrup first.Highly recommended, utterly moreish.

Usually flavoured 'Artisan' gins tend to be (in my humble opinion) oversweet and just taste like the gin has been laced with some kind of sugar syrup, but this Sipsmith Zesty Orange Gin is a bit different and it's a flavoured gin for grown-ups. There's a definite citrus tang to it but it's as more like lemon oil than lemon juice, if you see what I mean, and has a smoothness and depth. I'm not sure I get all the flavour notes the description above promises, the Cinnamon must have fallen out of mine, but there's a lovely marmalade-like bitter note that lingers. It's nice enough to drink on its own, if you dare, and a shot poured over ice is a very grown up sipper. It's a subtle flavour that gets a bit drowned out in some cocktails so I prefer to keep it simple and mix it with something complimentary and a good tonic works well. It's very nicely packaged in a hefty embossed bottle with its cork wax-dipped and although this is an unboxed version it looks and tastes special enough to make a lovely gift. Especially for yourself.

I’m fairly new to gin (I know late starter), so trying this Zesty Orange Dry London Gin has been a real pleasure. I mixed it with Indian tonic water along with lots of ice and hubs and I raised our glasses and tried it out. I can smell juniper as you’d expect with gin, but a spicy orange too. Tasting the gin it’s got a fruity taste with a bitter orange flavour that reminds me of Jaffa cakes, that dark chocolate and slightly sharp orange taste, very nice. The bottle is beautiful, with a wax sealed top and beautifully illustrated labels inside and out and glass. It’s a 70 cl bottle with a 40% proof volume so certainly has a kick. Do try it, it’s a really nice smooth gin with an orange twist. Please see my photos, thank you for reading my review, I hope it has been helpful to you.

As taste is personal - I’ll start with explaining my own preference, which is not for sweet gin. I like dry gins. So, you should not compare this gin to Whitley Neal flavoured stuff, or indeed Tanqueray Sevilla, Edinburgh gin either. All tend to sweeten their flavoured gins to the point they become more like gin liquors. The name here is a great indicator - it really is dry and you don’t get a big orange hit, but rather a more subtle orange zest with the classic Sipsmtih quality botanics that add lift. I’m a fan of Fevertree tonic, and it works really well with the standard tonic, and gets an extra zing/amplification from the Mediterranean one too. Either are great with this gin.The price represents good value, and if you’re new to Sipsmith, it’s well worth a go!

Lets face it, most people love gin these days and there are so many flavours. This one definitely did not disappoint. Definitely up there with my favourites now that ive sampled it.Very tasty with the zestyness of the orange really cutting through. Refreshingly and satisfying. The bottle itself is really beautiful and very fancy looking. Perfectly finished with a bright orange wax dipped top.Paired perfectly with lemonade and ice with a few slices of orange as an evening treat. Went down a little too well as half the bottle had disappeared before i realised!I recommended for friends, family, strangers... Anyone really 'hic'

Imagine the quintessential expression of a classic, traditional London Dry Gin.. Bold, complex and aromatic, then dialed up the citrus with fresh orange peel and zest for a gin that’s sure to brighten up your day.Tasting notes:-------------------The nose: Bright with floral citrus and a light warming spiceThe palate: Lasting sharp citrus fruit and a hint of sweet marmaladeThe Finish: Sweet tangy sherbet, ending on sweet cinnamonThank you for reading my review, I hope you have found it helpful.

This is the most beautiful orange gin I’ve tried- and I’ve tried a few! The bottle comes unboxed and has a smart orange wax seal top with a stopper type lid. It is labelled nicely and you can tell it isn’t a cheap gin.The gin is very tasty and goes nicely with lemonade and tonic. You can taste the finer notes in it. Sipsmith is hand crafted in small batches and copper stilled in London. The label also proudly shows the Union Jack. Lovely gin I can’t wait to try more flavours from sipsmith.

Sipsmiths orange and cacao zesty gin.Having been subjected to the horrors of a supermarket own brand chocolate orange gin I was wary of this one, but am very happy to report that it is delicious and it goes with a variety of mixers. It is primarily a zesty orange flavour with the cacao being delicate and very much a background flavour. It works well with soda water if tonic isn’t your thing but this is very, very good with tonic and ginger ale too.

My preferred tipple is whisky, but I do also enjoy a gin from time to time. Usually my tastes are more plain, and I don't really go in for some of the new-fangled flavoured gins (Rubarb and Custard Gin? Yuck, no thanks!)However, this is genuinely nice. I tried it both in a mixture of cocktails and as a plain G&N - All worked well, and added a certain extra something. Actually this gin is even nice enough to pour and sip neat.A Very nice gin!

A really lovely gin, with a distinctive edge. The cacao flavour is really very different, giving the Sipsmith gin an earthier element, which rests on your tongue for a long finish. Cacao and orange are a great pairing. A real treat of a drink, which thanks to the citrus and cacao combination, is less fussy about which tonic water to pair it with. A very nice gin, and quite distinctive — not easy given how crowded the gin market is now.

Always love to trey new gins and am really glad to have come across this one as it;s perfect for me - the zingy and zesty addition of marmalade and orange blossom give it a nice freshness with the undertone of chocolate stopping it from being too sickly-sweet or overly fruity with the ginger and pine especially giving an extra bit of support for the classic gin flavour. Light and fresh, very drinkable and very easy to drink!
