I've logged about 25 hours now in front of this sander and it's great. Solid, heavy, powerful and relatively quiet (if you buy the right replacement belts :). This has saved me days of my life already - easily.I have a few "complaints" (aka - suggestions for improvement) but they do not, in any way, detract from my overall love of this machine.1. I use the belt sander almost exclusively in the vertical position (gives me the most control) and the dust extractor is right at my stomach level. Inconvenient but not the end of the world2. I wish there was a bigger shelf on the belt sander that I could rest longer materials on. When in vertical mode, there is a 2cm guard that you can position at a right angle to the belt (like there is on the disc sander). I find that for longer materials (anything longer than 150mm) it becomes difficult to sand the end of it and get a good right angle. The ability to remove the existing guard plate and rotate it 90 degrees would be awesome. But with some practice, I'm getting good at eyeballing it and cleaning it up with the disc if necessary.3. There is a plastic cover over the drive belt and because it has a fair few gaps/holes in it, I find that, without dust extraction, quite a lot of dust builds up near the belt which, if not monitored, could throw the belt. So when using the sander where I don't have dust extraction available, I end up undoing the screws and cleaning it out alot when I get back to the shop.4. Moving the belt between horizontal/vertical requires undoing 3 screws. Two #2 philips to remove the plate and two hex screws to untension the belt unit. There are holes in the cover plate that allow you to put a hex key in to loosen the tensioning screws but I find it easier to just remove the - and doing so is required if you're not going to put the belt at 0 or 90 degrees. Similarly, a single level tightening mechanism would be nice too... but let's be honest, you get a lot for what you're paying for already.Again, none of the above bother me much - they are just things that I would like to have in a perfect world.

This is compact but substantial tool, by that I mean it is big enough to be useful yet small enough not to take up to much bench space. It is a heavy lump of metal which means it stays put wherever you place it.I have no other machine to compare it to but I think its quite when in use and won't annoy the neighbours .Things to note, if this is (like me) your first bench sander.THIS IS NOT A TOY!It is a heavy tool with moving parts, do NOT wear loose clothing ie: tie, necklace etc when using, because if any thing gets caught in the sanders the results could be lethal. There is a stop on the top sanding belt which covers about 3" of the sanding belt, the stop is there to stop your work piece from flying across the room at high speed should you remove the stop thinking you can gain another 3" of sanding belt. I found this out the hard way.LEAVE THE STOP IN PLACE.If you are used to using a hand sander and this is your first bench sander it is easy to forget that unlike the hand sander which has your fingers wrapped around it, with the bench sander, your fingers are free which means if you are not careful you will sand your finger tips or knuckles as well and because this is a semi industrial tool, it WILL remove your skin!, so take care when holding the work piece and preferably wear gloves as as well. (Again found out the hard way)So far I've only used this to make 3 string guitars with and the belt sander is excellent for sanding down fret boards and the corner on the end of the belt sander, sands down the internal curves of the neck and body really well. Where as the disc sander is excellent for creating nice external curves on a solid body. The sander WILL create a LOT of dust, so either it use outside or invest in a dust extraction system. This is not a cheap tool, but I am pleased I've bought it and as long as the motor holds out there's no reason why it shouldn't work for many years to come and as long as you remember this is a tool with moving parts and treat it with respect you should have no problems.

Received the item & unpacked it and assembled it. Instructions are reasonably clear and the overall item feels of good quality. I have a couple of other Scheppach items and have been impressed by the build quality & engineering so was expecting more of the same! Having plugged the item in & did one final check of everything before switching on – luckily for me. I noticed the mains cable was a little scuffed where it enters the cable gland at the base of the sander, a close look had me worried so I removed the cable gland (it unscrews) and found the brown live cable had been cut and could easily have shorted to the main chassis.Fortunately the power to the socket was off and I rather gingerly unplugged it pretty damn quick – had I not noticed then the only thing between me and severe injury/death would have been the workshop circuit breaker!I have contacted the seller and am awaiting a reply – if I end up getting a replacement I’ll update this review with a report on what the sander is like to use – but for now – if you have any Scheppach item – PLEASE check the mains cable at the entry point to the machine – hopefully mine is only a one off, but I’d hate to think of anyone owning one that was unaware of this potential lethal fault!***UPDATE***Previously gave this one star: I had an almost immediate response from both the seller & Scheppach, the U/S unit was replaced within a couple of days free of charge. Now I've had a chance to use it in anger I'm really pleased - It takes a while to get everything properly set up, but it is easy to do and there is plenty of adjustment to get the table perfectly aligned & square. In use, the circular disk sander has plenty of torque and does a great job. The belt sander is easy to swap position and also does a good job, though doesn't have as much torque as the disk, which isn't an issue for me (but might not be up to any serious metal grinding work if you were of a mind!).Customer service was first rate & my faith in Scheppach gear is fully restored!

This is a replacement for a 10 year old Rexon machine which developed difficulty in keeping the belt on track. This Sheppach is a better (and slightly dearer) machine and handles everything I throw at it. Model making is my main use with some other lightweight wood and brass jobs. I like the dust extraction apparatus on this machine as both belt and disc dust exit the through machine through the same hole unlike the aging Rexon. This hole is a lot bigger than the Rexon so the vacuum hose is too small. I met this challenge by cutting a hole in a clear yogurt pot which snuggly fitted over the extraction hole. then put the vacuum pipe through the hole in the pot and voila! all works fine. The sander discs have velcro type backs so easy to change. The sliding variable angle guide for the disc is a bit slack but it seems they all are. Heavy sturdy base means that the machine doesn't wander so a good stable platform. Would I recommend? Most certainly YES. It's inexpensive and does it's job well.

Brilliant machine, I bought this product because I make Toys that Teach, eg. ' Attribute Dominoes' which teach young children all about Geometrics while playing a game as they have different shapes, colours and sizes on them instead of dots. There's lots of sanding to do, doing this by hand is a long and laborious job but with this sander I had all 21 pieces completed in less than an hour. It's heavy enough not to travel on the worktop while in use and quiet enough that you don't want to keep turning it off to protect you ears because you're fed up with the noise. It's a well set out machine and being left handed I don't have any problems with using the belt, disc or on/off buttons, they're all there in front of me. The only negative I have got is the dust outlet, it's too big for a conventional vacuum pipe so I've had to put a big box behind it to stop the dust going all over the workshop.

very good for the price, eats through wood no problem with the supplied 80 grit belt, much slower through metal, but haven't tried it with my 40 grit belts yet but would expect it to get through steel far more aggressively, only draw back that I have found is that the back plate that the belt runs on sticks out the side of the belt, making it difficult to get deep angle cuts if the piece you are grinding is bigger than/wider than the belt. I am sure there is a way around this haven't played around enough yet. As for me is will be a multi purpose grinder its not the biggest problem. I'm pretty impressed with it. oh and surprisingly quiet.

I ordered this myself for a Christmas present from my Wife so did not open until the day although it arrived promptlyHave given it considerable use and find it to me a very robust and well made machine, although it is not to the old Scheppach standard, the motor is not so powerful so will not stand excessive pressure when using the sanding belt, but I am sure that with considerate usage it will give good long service

Hasn't yet been put to much use but everything seems to be good. One criticism is that the small table that sits in front of the disk does not sit parallel to the disc which means the mitre slot is also out. This can be resolved by offsetting the mitre guide angle using a try square. It is only out by a degree or two but there seems no way to adjust the table itself.

Best machine on the market for the money and great service.Supplier most helpful would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to buy scheppach machines

Very sturdy with a cast metal body, there's almost no shake or vibration letting you do some very detailed sanding, or take off large amounts of material.

I have used an identical sander for many years and it became worn out and unusable. This Scheppach sander is as good and is excellent value.

22.12.2014

As it was expected. A strange noise when i use the belt sander in horizontal position.

13.4.2017

Tad on the small size even for an amateur DIYer. Good quality and price though.

10.5.2015
