I never really saw the need for a higher end graphics card until I started playing flight simulators about six months ago, despite having built computers for myself and family for years.I can't stress enough how happy I am with it. It's made a significant of a difference to various RTS / strategy games as well, such as the Total War series, which I can now play on full detail at 1680 x 1050.I chose this card simply because it was advocated by PC Gamer, and looking at the technical specifications, the balance of value and performance is remarkable. You're looking at paying an extra £60 for the next card up with no seriously notable increase in the cards'ability.If you are thinking about buying a more capable graphics card then look no further. I would also like to mention that many people have stated not to use the catalyst drivers that are used by this card. Speaking from personal experience however (I've had the 5830 for about 3 months now), I've han absolutely no problems at all with the latest catalyst drivers on any of the games I play (including very graphics intensive games like ARMA II and the standalone expansion Operation Arrowhead). Further, many people advocate dual linking (2 cards in PCI slots running side by side). However, I can't imagine needing two myself, as this one hasn't even broken a sweat.Quick note about power supply. You don't need to have a ridiculously high wattage on your system. I'm running a 3.4 GHz AMD Phenom II quad core, a powerful CPU cooler (not the stock fan), 3 case fans and of course this graphics card, on a 650 watt power supply with no issues whatsoever.The only thing I feel I have to mention by way of warning is that this card is frankly huge. I have a large ATX case, and due to the location of my PCI slot I had to relocate an internal hard drive in order to fit it. The rear of the card hooks up to your power supply, so that requires even more room. All in all though, as long as you have a standard size desktop case, I'm sure you'll have no problem.In summary then, can't recommend it enough, plug and play!
