I last reviewed a (so-called) Russel Hobbs toaster in August 2018, and gave it one star; and here they are with another one, seemingly back for more punishment. You can read that previous review at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-Hobbs-24380-Inspire-Plastic/dp/B07F8HDT4J/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8, but to find it you will have to plough right to the very end of the other 57 one star reviews. However, much to my surprise, I find myself this time awarding 4 stars - and to a less than perfect toaster. But exercise caution; it may not be worth 4 stars to you.Forget the name, of course; it's made in an anonymous Chinese factory for a big US conglomerate (Spectrum brands Inc.),which buys up bankrupt company names of former repute (including Remington and Black+Decker), and sticks them on products made in anonymous Chinese factories of no repute. You can pay anything up to several hundred pounds for a domestic toaster, or you can pay £30 or so for this one, or many other comparable bread and butter models. I ask for very little from a toaster - bread evenly and fully toasted on both sides without having to take it out half-done and turn it upside down and back to front; and since even the luxury models can be attended by reviews complaining of untoasted bits, I see no point in risking good money on anything more than the average.I've lost count of the number of toasters I've reviewed for Amazon - all of them unsatisfactory. The problem is invariably the badly-made elements, and this example is no different. It's the same design and construction as the first electric toaster I ever owned. I can't immediately think of another kitchen technology that hasn't advanced in at least some way over the course of over half a century. In theory, they would work properly if the elements were carefully assembled, but they never are - especially, it seems, if they are made in China. The worst in this case is the central element which is so badly wound that all the heat is mostly on one side; see the photos - so one piece of toast has one overdone and one underdone side; I hate the idea that we are slowly being brainwashed into accepting improperly toasted toast...But, to my great surprise, my toast at least came out toasted from edge to edge, albeit not evenly - see the photo. I can only attribute this to the unusually wide slots' enabling the heat to diffuse more widely. which could never be the case where the bread was right up against the elements. I also like my toast well done - you might have untoasted bits if you like a light toast. This kind of finish, if not perfect, is acceptable for my purposes, and in comparison to my Igenix, I therefore like it.You may be lucky, and buy an inexpensive average toaster and get three perfect elements - but I never have. Which makes a good case for buying in a shop rather than online, so the elements can be inspected for even and consistent wiring throughout. If you can't do that, on this experience, selecting the appliance with the widest possible slots may well produce the most evenly toasted toast. This model is also considerably more elegant than RH's 24380. In fact - although style is a very personal thing - I like its appearance. Add in the fact that all the controls can be made to sit on the end nearest to where you stand (unlike my present Igenix), plus the facility for avoding burned fingertips with small slices, and the four stars is deserved in my case.

I think this is a basic but good toaster from Russell Hobbs. It came delivered in nicely presented retail box and the toaster features a 70cm power cable, wide slots, frozen, cancel, and reheat buttons, removable crumb tray, and a high lift feature to help remove your toast, muffins, etc.The honeycomb design is very stylish and appealing, I think it looks really nice and clean in white and the stainless-steel band round the bottom compliments it nicely. The turn knob feels a bit cheap to use but the overall quality of the toaster is good with the buttons having a nice click to them when pushed, and the defrost and reheat buttons have blue LED’s next to them. The cable is a decent length (approx.70cm) and you can make it shorter by using the cable management on the underside of the toaster.I found using a normal supermarket thick-sliced loaf that the very top sticks up out the toaster so its not the deepest one I’ve used but it does a good enough job of toasting most of the bread nice and evenly and I’m happy to use it every day.Overall, I feel this is a good toaster for the money and the design is very appealing. It comes in a nice range of colours in both 2-slice and 4 and it generally seems well-made with Russell Hobbs giving you up to three years of warranty if you register it online, for that extra peace of mind. If you want a basic toaster that looks good and you don’t mind the very tops of bread not getting toasted, then this should be a good choice and I feel four stars is appropriate for it.

I am happy with this toaster. It looks nice, and functions well.Loading the bread slices, and extracting the toast, is easy, likewise operating the controls. The toaster has buttons for re-heat, toasting frozen bread, and cancelling the heating. Like many toasters, the bread-insertion leaver will only stay down if the toaster is pugged in. Lifting the leaver raises the toast further out of the slots, should the slices be too small to small to slick out otherwise. The slots are wide enough for thick slices, sliced bagels, etc.. They are just large enough for slices from standard family loaves, but wouldn't accommodate anything larger. If you expect to toast very wide slices,I'd recommend you look elsewhere.Although the casing of the toaster is plastic, the very top is metal, and prone to get very hot, so make sure you don’t touch it. I have an older toaster in which the metal housing is more fully protected by the plastic casing, even at the top of the toaster; which I much prefer. The heat range on this toaster is very good. Setting 1 heats waffles to just the right amount, while the remaining numbers give steady increments of toast brownness. The toaster covers each side reasonably evenly, although there is a little difference between each side (see photos showing both sides of the same slice).Overall, although this toaster isn't perfect, I can find no major flaws with it and would certainly recommend you consider it if you are looking for a decent, reasonably cheap, toaster.

The honeycomb texture on the sides of this otherwise standard toaster make it stand out from the crowd a little, and the silver accents make it look pretty attractive. But it's a shame the metal trim around the bottom doesn't properly match the better finish of the metal slots in the top. It feels rather lightweight. The slots are just about wide enough to take doorsteps, or muffins and (most) teacakes. They're not very deep though. My usual bread sticks out of the top a bit and that part doesn't get toasted unless you turn it over part way through. Squarer slices would be okay. The slots grab and centre even thin sliced bread in the wide slots. This gives very even toasting for sliced bread. The bread springs up quite high when done so you can easily get hold of it.There's a timer knob and three buttons. One button pops the toast up immediately, one is to defrost bread and the other to warm toast back up that's gone cold. Could be useful.Overall, this toaster is nothing too special but just quietly gets on with the job with no major downsides. I think the power cord could usefully be longer though. Russell Hobbs has optimistically provided a way to wind spare cord neatly underneath the toaster.Apart from this and taller slices of bread sticking out of the top and not toasting, this toaster looks good in the kitchen and makes decent toast. What more can you ask?

I didnt have a toaster and have not owned one for many years, not sure why, so i was thrilled to get this to test. However i dont have anything recent to compare it too.It is a lovely rippled white, it fits really well in my Caribbean themed kitchen where i have tropical colours of orange, white, green, red and yellow. It is a smallish footprint and does not take much space up on the worktop and sits easily put away in a cupboard or length ways on a shelf. You need to burn the elements in before use, this only takes a few minutes but it does leave quite a pungent smell in the kitchen so i would actually advise doing it a few times and not on a day you will need it to cook the toast.I buy Aldimalted wheat bread which is very thick but this toaster held it easily and toasted it to a nice golden colour on the 2nd lowest setting. I cannot say if it is faster than any other toasters because like i said i have nothing to compare it to, bu i was very impressed with the speed of the toaster in use. The crumb tray was easy to slide out and wash and i was surprised it had a function to cook frozen bread. This is going to come in very useful for me because bread always goes mouldy on me because i dont eat it fast enough so this will come in handy.Overall i really like it, for me it is a 5 star item and i am very happy with it!

This is a pretty standard mid-range toaster which stands out primarily because of the honeycomb design on the sides of the toaster. I wasn't sure about the patterned sides at first, but they are not distracting and add some pleasant texture to the kitchen, especially when the toaster is placed against a tiled wall. The toaster itself has the standard features you would expect in any toaster nowadays: a dial for selecting the length of time the bread toasts; a defrost function for toasting bread straight from frozen; and a reheat function to warm already toasted bread. There is also a easy lift function, which is helpful when toasting smaller pieces of bread or crumpets. The toaster advertises itself as having wide slots; they are a little wider than normal, but if you cut your own bread and like a doorstop piece of toast, this toaster won't fit your needs - literally. It is convenient to have a double toaster with four slots for bread, great when feeding a family, and each double slot operates independently, which I have found very convenient when toasting some bread quite lightly and other pieces to a darker colour.Overall, nothing surprising in this toaster. I would recommend you base your toaster decision on the design: if you like the honeycomb go for it: it will look great in any kitchen.

Russell Hobbs have been making toasters for a long time and have earned a good reputation for both style and reliability. This toaster has all the usual features such as different degrees of browning for you bread and removable crumb trays for easy cleaning. The features which I find very useful are the fact that it has four slice slots which work in pairs independently and the slots are extra wide. Not all breads are narrow width and it's awful when the bread will not slip into the slot properly because you end up with burnt toast. I have found this with bagels and you have to slice them thinner than you may otherwise like.Another excellent plus with this toaster is that it has a high lift feature so that when your toast pops,it can be removed easily from the toaster. I have had toasters in the past which when the toaster signals that the toast is ready, the bread has hardly lifted up at all and therefore awkward to remove the toaster without burning yourself.Another good idea is illuminated function buttons. Very useful for someone who is partially sighted and would have difficulty selecting the buttons. I like the honeycomb design on the sides of the toaster. The easy wipe clean toaster housing is much more suitable than stainless steel which is hard to keep clean. Recommended.

This review is for the Russell Hobbs honeycomb black 4 slice toaster. (I think there seems to be mixup of reviews on this page so be careful). It’s quite an attractive looking toaster with a honeycomb waffle design on the sides. The top is a lovely matt chrome finish. It has a four slice capacity and is split into two sections with separate controls for each, so that you could do two light toasts, and two darker, desired. The controls give settings from 1 to 6.It’s quite a good looking appliance and at £35.99 It’s priced like any other average four slice toaster. However, I personally wouldn’t use this style of toaster again for the simple reason that it’s quite large and has a very large footprint on your worktop. For most people kitchen space is at a premium and this will take up a lot of room. My current four slice toaster takes up less than half the space of this There is no compromises in any area.In terms of performance This is okay, it’s not superfast but I have a fast toaster and it’s so easy to burn so I’m happy with the toasting time for this.So in summary this is a pretty good toaster, looks attractive but you do need to have the space for it because it is rather large.

little toaster, performs well, looks nice, easy to clean, needs wider slots - I've never felt the need to touch, play with or to move my old toaster so why do I even care if it gets warm? My old toaster probably got hot as well but I never felt the need to inspect it!- Not once while using my old toaster I thought to myself " hmmm this bread is not brown evenly, it will taste disgusting"! Because it would not! As long the toaster toasts and doesnt burn my toast I simply dont care. And this is exactly what this product does! It does get hot on the top, but it's a toaster...I expect that! You may want to consider other options if you have young children, but it's not a problem if you're aware of this issue.Standard slices of bread fit easily and toast evenly, I've tried toasting crumpets, and they come out just as I like them....the lift function is great for taking out smaller items without burning your fingers. not as glossy as the ‘glossy white’ description would have you believe. Four slots, so enough toast to keep everyone happy. This is a very classy looking toaster , so check that you have space for such a big toaster.

I really like this toaster from Russell Hobbs, it is very good quality for a reasonable price, is stylish and performs very well in use, much better than my current Bosch one that was over twice the price! The honeycomb design is a nice feature and also seems to provide thermal insulation, as the toaster wall is only warm not hot during usage. The toaster slots are lovely and wide, taking bread up to 1 inch thick, so can take thick bread, crumpets and tea cakes with ease. The browning function works really well, producing evenly brown toast (again much better than my current one). When the toast pops up the high lift feature means that the toast is very easy to remove, as it pops up around 5cm above the toaster slots. All the other functions (frozen, reheat and cancel) work just as they should. For me this toaster represents really good value for money at £24.99 at the point of review for an excellent toaster, which is better than many at a much higher price point in my experience, and is a stylish addition to my kitchen, and it’s great that there are four colours to choose from to match most kitchen colour schemes.

This toaster deserves its high star rating. It's attractive, affordable and easy to use. It browns better than a lot of the more expensive toasters, and even if you like your toast quite 'well done' you probably won't ever need to go above setting 4 (out of 6). This is a boon, because I can't tell you the number of toasters I've used that barely turn the bread golden on even the very highest setting. It also doesn't get too hot while in use - again, I've had toasters that were so poorly insulated I was worried about getting a burn if I touched the outer casing. Not an issue here. It's a simple gadget to operate. Pop the bread in and press down the plunger to get it to drop down in the slots. If your bread is frozen press the snowflake button and it'll allow a bit longer to take that into account. There's also a button for reheating toast that's started to cool down. And one for ejecting the toast if you don't want to wait for it to finish automatically. Standard pull-out crumb tray underneath. The footprint of the toaster is small, so ideal for bijoux kitchens. Can't really find fault with it so far. Great value.

This toaster from Russell Hobbs works extremely well, with the ability to cook either 2 slices or 4 andwith the dual variable browning controls will brown your toast exactly to one’s liking. It will accept thicker slices very well and once one gets used to the variable controls,(1 to 6) itbrowns evenly and quickly. Also on this model is a handy reheat button just for rewarming toast, buns etc. and a defrost button for the frozen slices. What I really like is the ability to put smallerslices in for toasting and due to the high lift feature, no more struggling to fetch the toast out.The black version we have is quite modern looking, but I am not entirely convinced with thehoneycomb pattern on the sides. The top of the toaster is stainless steel but the majority of thebody is plastic, making this a very light toaster. For the money, this toaster is quite good value as itcomes with a two-year warranty extendable to three years when registered online.Overall, this is a very good toaster and competes well with other brands.

I wouldn't exactly class myself as a brand snob, but my personal experience is that unbranded cheaper electrical products tend to fail after 12-18 months, often not long out of warranty. I've experience this recently with a kettle as well as a couple of other items. So I tend to look for brands I recognise, and this is certainly one of those. It's a contemporary design with a dimple effect, and whilst black and chrome might not appeal to everyone it fits in to most kitchens well enough. No issues with toasting so far, the level is easily adjustable, though some of the larger bread loaves we occasionally buy mean the top of the slice sticks out a bit. However, this was the case on our previous toaster too,so it's not really an issue.I'm not such a fan of the rotary knobs for setting the level, they seem a little clunky compared to the rest of the design, and the price is towards the upper end of the range for similar options. But overall, a decent toaster from a well known manufacturer, which works well.

We have a lot of Russell Hobbs appliances, they offer quality and are made to last. This 4 Slice Toaster is very neat, glossy black in colour with a textured honeycomb design on the sides which looks simple and stylish at the same time and look really nice against the white wall and floor tiles we have in our kitchen. At the time of review, there are 4 different colours to choose from. The slots are wide enough for thick slices of bread and can be lifted with the lever while still toasting so you don’t have to wait for it to automatically pop up giving you the option to stop it midway toasting, as well as using to lift and remove when finished toasting. There are 2 crumb trays that slot in at the bottom and you also have the option to toast frozen bread as well as reheating cold toast. You use the right side of the toaster for just 2 slices and the left if doing 4. The dials on the bottom of both the left and right-hand side change the browning selection. Simple to use, simple to clean and looks great.
