The game is built around a strong (for the time) wrestling engine but that tells only half the tale. The game's story mode assembles one of the most colourful, quirkiest and sexiest casts of characters possible to imagine. Each girl has a story and another wrestler she needs to confront, and the only way to do that is to grapple with, perhaps humiliate or even befriend her. Furthermore each girl has an alter ego, with an polar opposite set of values that circumstances can force her to change into. So for example a good girl (babyface) like Reiko or Makoto can change into a bad girl (heel) such as Rowdy Reiko or the Black Belt Demon.Or the opposite with say Evil Rose changing to the heroic Noble Rose.The difficulty level is curved and quite manageable with practice, the only exception being the final boss confrontation which I won't spoil for you. The game is still quite entertaining to play, with a wide variety of opponents and some interesting aspects like vows. There's also a locker room mode to take a closer look at your girl, and an interview mode if you leave her alone for a minute.The main comparison though is with Rumble Roses XX. Assuming you have a newer console, XX is a better all round game. EXCEPT for the absence of a story mode. In this respect original Rumble Roses scores. Without knowing the characters background, RR XX becomes a rather meaningless exercise. If you want to really identify with the girls, this is the game to play.However you could look their story modes up on U tube instead ... especially if you don't have a ps2
