I admit I was a bit worried that the Rollei rock solid beta mk ll tripod would be one of those Chinese clones (the ones that pop up as soon as you type tripod) I too fell for all the hype a couple of years ago and bought one, lots of lovely colour and impressive looking too, problem is that they have no sense of user satisfaction, I really didn't enjoy using it, I looked around at all the usual contenders and couldn't find anything that I really liked. youtube is no use at all, all you seem to get are people who have been paid to give positive reviews, so I took the plunge and got meself one of these, the manufacturing quality is very good indeed and I actually enjoy using this tripod.it has a quality feel to it that makes it very satisfying, it is quite tall, I'm 5' 9" and I don't need it to be fully extended, the ball head is really smooth and has a friction control to stop yr camera/lens falling forward accidently, very reassuring as I had this happen to me with my last tripod, when fully extended this tripod is very secure, so yes I'm really pleased that I bought it.

Got this at £100 less than list price. Tripod itself is pretty solid - not absolutely rock solid but decent enough. In terms of stability a huge upgrade on the velbon sherpa it replaced. Legs twist isn't brilliant. I photograph on sandy farmland and there are already lots of bits of sand lodged in the twist mechanism - still working fine though. I've attached a gimbal head to the central column - the join here is really solid - not flaccid in any way. So solid I currently can't get the gimbal head off! Feels harsh to complain about the free tripod head but as a wildlife photographer it is rubbish. One part of the control can only be adjusted by a big flat head screwdriver which funnily enough I don't tend to carry when I'm lying in field taking photos. This control has a mind of its own and loosens and tightens without any obvious warning. Suspect I might be using it wrong in some way but if its not obviously understandable it's probably not well designed.Tripod worth £200, tripod head worth £20 (maybe)

Bought this tripod to supplement my travel tripod. It was a good combination of weight and height without having to use a central column. I'm 6'1" and when on maximum height I can't see the spirit level in the leg easily! I take lots of panoramas so wanted a tripod I could easily add a bowl head too. Combined with bowl head it weighs in at around 3Kg so not the lightest but as I intend to use it mostly for short (1day max) hikes and shooting from close to my car I can live with the weight. Like that it comes with spikes for feet and some plastic feet 'caps' that would help spread the weight in soft ground. Feels solid/stable.Only improvement I would make would be to have the buttons you use to alter the angle of the feet a little easier to use but not a big issue. it's not cheap so will have to see if durability matches price but Rollei seem to be a good manufacturer.

Nothing I didn't like. I have been a professional technical photographer for 35 years and have used many other really good tripods. I would be very happy to use this with any camera equipment, including large format and very heavy lenses. it is extremely well made, designed and constructed to superb accuracy. The lightness and stability of it is an absolute pleasure. The included ball head on it is better than any other i've ever used and that's saying something! Rather sad I don't actually need the ball head on it, as I am using the tripod for a top end telescope, but I will certainly find another use for the head, as it's so fantastic. Would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone,FULL STOP!

Excellent bit of equipment. The ball head is well built and easy to use with thick gloves on. The whole set up is absolutely solid in windy conditions if you hang some weight from the hook (or tie down using a guy rope to a tent peg. )I did worry that height would be an issue for studio use but with all the legs fully extended I'm on my tip toes to see through the view finder (I'm 6'2".)I tend to shoot scottish landscapes and even in dreadful conditions this tripod hasn't let me down. I do notice the extra weight but at least I know I won't be fighting with my equipment to get a shot.

A very well made piece of kit. Just what I have been looking for as far as a levelling head is concerned. Easy to adjust using the single lever underneath so very quick to position quickly. Why only 4 stars, well that's because the spirit level bubble gets hidden below the Tripod Head so you can only level the tripod without the the tripod head on the tripod. As i usually carry my tripod with the head on, having to remove the head to level the tripod may prove to be an inconvenience.

Great build quality and really stable. Was worried that this wouldn’t be very good due to the price but it’s great. Lightweight and huge. No more backache!
