'Rogue Trooper Redux' is a modern, remastered re-release of the popular and critically well received 2006 PS2 game 'Rogue Trooper'.A third-person shooter set on the planet of 'Nu-Earth' where a never ending war between the Norts and the Southers is fought, you play the title character of 'Rogue' - a genetic trooper, or 'G.I' .Conceived in a test tube, immune to the toxic atmosphere of the planet, and trained only for war, you and your brothers are a secret weapon deployed by the Southers intended to turn the tide of battle against the Nort forces, however after being air dropped onto the battlefield it quickly becomes apparent that you have been betrayed as most of the G.I's drop pods are blownout of the air by expectant Nort ground troops pre-warned of your arrival. One of the few to survive the initial slaughter, you attempt to escape what would later come to be known as 'The Quartz Zone Massacre' in the first level of the game, which also serves to act as a tutorial to the controls and features of the game, such as movement, aiming, firing, climbing, and the cover system. These initial stages will also introduce you to what will become your only allies in the long battle ahead, and one of the unique features of the game - your 'biochips' - a dog tag-style chip contained in the skull of each G.I that contains the personalities, skills, and memories of its owner that can be retrieved after its owners death and inserted into your G.I equipment to enhance its abilities. To this end you come into possession of the biochips of fellow G.I's Helm, Bagman, and Gunnar, which you insert in turn into your helmet, back pack, and (you guessed it) gun. This grants your equipment special abilities, such as allowing you to equip your rifle with a silencer for stealth kills, shotgun, beam rifle, missile launcher, and grenade launcher attachments, auto-targeting, or deploy it as a remote sentry weapon. Your helmet can create a holographic drone that can be used as a distraction to draw enemy fire. Your back pack meanwhile will create fresh ammunition, administer medical treatment, or deploy mine fields. The abilities of each piece of equipment can then be upgraded by collecting salvage from the corpses of enemies and things such as destroyed pill boxes. Additionally your biochips will frequently offer quips and advice, which is fun and all adds to the authenticity of the game. The story is heavily influenced by the original comics published decades ago in the UK 2000AD magazine, and is very faithful to the source material as Rogue shoots, explodes, sneaks, and snipes his way across thirteen missions and various locations that will be familiar to fans of the franchise (such as the Quartz Zone and Nu-Paris) as he seeks out the identity of the traitor, encountering Nort troops, battle suits, Sun Legion, snipers, and pill boxes, and allowing you to man fixed positions such as anti-aircraft guns, heavy machine guns, and Lazookas (laser-bazookas I presume!) to take out larger threats such as tanks, boats, and bombers.Of course as this is a remastered game, fans of the original will be keen to learn how much it has been improved over the original.Textures have been greatly improved, and animations are much more slick, however whilst the graphics are undoubtedly better than the ten year old original game, it has to be said that they do not stretch the abilities of the next-gen console to any great degree, and backgrounds in particular remain quite flat and basic. Voice acting and sound effects are essentially the same as those from the original, and are functional if not exceptional. The game also includes online game mode, and the additional single-player modes 'stronghold' and 'progressive', as well as the 'Nu-Earth Encyclopedia' which offers you interesting information about all of the foes, equipment, and locations you will meet on Nu-Earth, as well as digital animations and images plucked from the pages of the comic books.Overall, I'm delighted to be able to play what was one of my very favorite PS2 games again, and whilst the 'remastered' nature of the game amounts to little more than a layer of extra polish, even after a decade has passed it still remains one of the most faithful comic book adaptations of any generation, with a compelling story, exciting, intuitive game play, at a budget price that makes it an easily affordable experience that will please new fans, fans of third-person shooters, fans of the original, and fans of the comic books equally.Recommended!

Wow a 2000AD awesome character Rogue Trooper redone for the PS4. Is this good? Oh yes :-) It plays more like a stealth game than an outright blood bath like Doom. You start at the beginning of the assault against the evil Norts with their Soviet accents, and are promptly betrayed by a mysterious ‘someone’, enigmatically shrouded in shadow. As you progress you equip biochips from your fallen comrades, which not only is very cool but allows you with Bagman to salvage and craft more ammo and upgrades to your gear. Graphically nice but no award as its a remaster. Music is excellent and quite eerie while level design initially is small that rewards exploration with extra salvage. The game gets more challenging as you progress, have to use holoimage and sentry gun a lot more. Grenade throwing is a bit rubbish. There are some tough sequences flying a plane or on a train you defend. Music is excellent. I find using sentry gun and your pistol for free ammo is great as you save salvage for later upgrades.Minimap shows enemies and their direction so you can creep up behind them and Manhunter style execute their ass. I love 2000AD, best comic ever and game developers should delve into this comic’s richness and shower us with games based on Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Nemesis, ABC Warriors (screw Transformers!) and DR and Quinch.

I played this back in the glory days of the PS2 and loved it, so as soon as I heard this was coming I preordered it.Now with a game this old, and from a system 2 generations back, you kinda wonder if you remember it with rose tinted spectacles.Thankfully it is every bit as good as I remembered.Yes it does not look fully current gen graphics wise, but it is a far better looking game than I expected. If you compare it to the HD versions of Hitman released on the PS3, it is a massive step ahead of those. They have not overly changed the controls either, so at times it does become a bit clunky, but as long as you go in with the acceptance that this IS an old game despite the new suit of clothes, then you wont be overly upset. For £20 it is a cool little retro game, and well worth a punt if you loved it first time around.

I loved this game on the original XBox. This version WOW!!!. It is one of the best HD-a-fied games I have played and especially considering this is a game from 11 years ago. I think the upgraded graphics in this game impressed me as much this gen as the original version graphics did when it first came out 2 gens ago on the original Xbox.Awesome game.Yet publishers say we do not want great single player experiences anymore.

Great game way back in 2006 on the original Xbox, therefore I jumped at the chance to play it again on PS4.I am not disappointed in the least, a trip down memory lane that wont break the bank.Had a quick go on the online play last night too, that seems good with quick access into the rounds with very little waiting around in lobby areas etc.A great purchase for fans new or old.

When this originally came out back in 2006 it blew me away, and became one of my favourite games of all time. Usually remasters only add "HD" textures, but they've completely rebuilt the game from the ground up. Massively improved textures, effects, graphics, weapon and character models, the list goes on. I couldn't recommend this game enough. BUY IT!

Had this on PS3 and bought it again cheap on PS4. Glad I did. Great story, classic graphics and a solid gameplay. Not a super long game, but love it regardless.Haven’t tried online yet, but I’ve heard good stuff, so I’ll give it a try.

Its Rogue so had to be bought. If I'm honest its not that much different from the old Xbox release, although some of the graphics have been sharpened up a bit and the cinematics are good. For any fan though you just need to get it.

A long-awaited remaster of one of my all time favourite games. I've played it on numerous platforms before finally getting this version on my PS4. An absolute must for 2000AD fans.

Very nostalgic and an excellent game. A bit samey after a while so probably one for the fans but you don't have to know the lore to play it.

I first played this on the Wii, but wanted to see how the PS4 handles it. A really enjoyable game that still looks good and plays well.
