Many people buy this to stop the camera switching on accidentally in their pocket and damaging itself. This it does by having some electric contacts built in that disables the on/off swith on the camera. This it does perfectly and is a very valuable feature.I had a second problem that occurred when picking up the camera or holding it to use the menu. My fingers have strayed over the sliding lens protection that easily moves out of the way leaving me with a nice finger print in the middle of the lens - not good. This is not really the fault of the camera as any lightweight sliding lens cover will suffer this problem or worse still bend and potentially jam.
