The 'Rapid Supreme S27 Halfstrip Stapler (Black)' is only the second such machine recently seen that offers flat-cinch closure. Most staplers bend the free portion of discharged staple legs into an arc, mostly with the free ends facing each other but sometimes apart (pinning). Although secure, this method can make a stack of stapled document sets extremely thick at that corner, or along a side if multi-stapled, such that the stack soon becomes unstable with the upper ones sliding off. Flat cinch eliminates the curve, produces a slimmer set and allows better stacking and tighter, neater storage. With flat cinch staplers, there is usually no option to pin.In other respects, this is a fairly standard mid-sized desktop stapler and takes 24/6 and the extremely common 26/6 sizes; most workplaces will probably have at least one other stapler accepting 26/6. It allows for a generous 30-sheet capacity; 20-25 sheets is the frequently quoted typical maximum for a variety of machines using the same staple size. It may be that flat-cinch is more efficient or that Rapid are using 60 or 70gsm paper stock to prove their staplers rather than 80gsm which is the unofficial 'standard'. Unfortunately, although its base is plastic, it is hard and not non-slip and its slightly bevelled sides suggest that it may be mostly intended for in-hand use.The stapler is externally mostly of plastics but has some obviously metal parts but with sufficient weight to suggest that there is an underlying metal core. It is a top loader and, unusually, the load drawer is loaded with a cardboard dummy staple strip which should be removed before loading with the real thing; no staples are supplied but a box of 5000 26/6 can be very inexpensive unless you choose one of the coloured types. It is claimed that the machine is Swedish-designed, but it is not substantially original or significantly different than many other machines of a similar size or nature. Two alternative colour trims are available, this being the least decorative of the three. It is considerably more expensive than the other known flat-cinch stapler which is almost identically sized although this is a few mm slimmer in width. Its spring-based load/feed system is essentially identical to that used 30-plus years ago, leaving very little for its Swedish designers to actually design.A final deciding factor will be its price which is unusually high; there are much larger, heavy-duty staplers than can accommodate 100+ sheets that cost a couple of £ extra and most other staplers of similar size and scope often are half its price. If its Swedish design and flat-cinch abilities together justify its pricing is for purchasers to decide; personally, they do not as flat-cinch can be provided far more cheaply. There are alternatives that are equally good, if not actually better, and more affordable although most will not offer flat-cinch.

Having reviewed many staplers over the last number of months, I've very quickly discovered that not every stapler is exactly the same. Accordingly, there are some that are very good and there are some which, well, just aren't. This is definitely one of the better staplers, but of course, that's not to say that it's perfect. One of the aspects that I really like about it, is the flat clinch technology. Most staplers fold the ends of the staples against the back of the paper with a slight bend, so that when you are stacking a pile of stapled pages, there is a much thicker section in the stapled corner. The printer which we have in work (which has a stapler built in) doesn't suffer from the problem (at least, not to the same degree) as it is able to make the back of the staple completely flat, thus reducing the thickness of the stapled corner. However, until I tried this stapler, I wasn't aware that such technology was available in manual staplers and so this is probably the biggest advantage to this stapler. The stapling ability of this stapler is very good and I also found it very reliable, with it being able to consistently staple a magazine of 33 pages, even though the staples I was using were only designed to hold 20 pages (albeit, the magazine paper was very thin). However, there were a couple of niggles (nothing major) which I would like to see improved in the future, before I could give it five stars. Firstly, the operation of the stapler isn't that smooth and when stapling some pages, seems to be quite jerky, with a feeling of metal grinding against metal. It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the stapler, but it's much less smooth that other staplers I have used.Seconding, when loading the stapler with staples, the top of the stapler doesn't seem to want to stay open, no matter how far back you tilt it and it tends to slam shut with an unexpected ferocity! Accordingly, just make sure you keep your fingers out of the way or make sure the top is secured open at all times when filling with staples. Rapid also seem to be too tight to include a bar of staples with the stapler, instead including a cardboard replica - surely a bar of staples would only have been worth a couple of pence to them? This are all very minor points against the stapler however and the flat clinch technology is clearly the key selling point of this stapler, which I can confirm, works very well.

If you've not come across a "flat clinch" stapler before, they are staplers that form the finished staple differently to conventional staplers, leaving the legs of the staple flush against the stapled paperf, rather than crimped and curled round with the teeth of the staple pressed into the paper and each leg curved off the paper slightly. It's not a big deal, but if you've tried to store a stack of stapled documents, you will probably have encountered the thick corner where the staples add bulk. Flat staples reduce this effect quite noticeably, so if that's of value to you, a flat clinch stapler is worth looking at. Loading staples is old-school,you pull the top up and the pusher is retracted by a surprisingly long spring to allow you to load staples. I remember trashing the spring on similar stapler as a kid, but it works okay so long at you don't start overstretrching it. (If you have kids, bear in mind, as it is fun to play with that spring.)This Rapid Supreme S27 stapler creates flat clinched staples, but is otherwise a fairly typical of an office stapler you'd find on anyone's desk.It works consistantly and reliably, to the point that you just don't notice it. The Supreme has quite a fancy mechanism for clat clinching, with a number of moving parts which may be an issue for reliability, though the crimp area of conventional staplers is subject to wear with time.I don't have an issue with this stapler at all, it works well and I prefer flat clinched staples to curled staples. It does a good job, buit the high asking price stops it being a 5* stapler.

This stapler feels about light - medium weight and is mainly made of plastic, so light to hold.I actually quite like the flatclinch idea, where the staples are stapled flat, it does make you wonder why it hadn't of been thought of years ago! They certainly do look a lot tidier sitting flat, and it is a very good thing to keep you multiple stapled documents sitting flat rather than curling up in the corner due to the curve of the staple. It is less easy to pull the staple out though, especially if you are lazy like me and try and undo it with the corner of a finger nail! It works with a staple remover but I do think it's slightly more difficult than with traditional staples.Using standard staples rather than the recommended ones,it easily stapled 12-14 pages 80gsm paper so not quite the 20 or so advertised, but then they do recommend the specific use of their staples. For light work normal staples still work well though. From a business and presentation point of view, I think the documents look more professional stapled this way.==========EDIT May 2020==========Almost 4 years later, this is still in very good condition and working very well, which shows just how well it is made. It's use it more of a casual use in the home office, rather than daily use. But still very well made, nice size and good that the staples sit flat when stapled.Very good product.(If you found my review helpful, I would be really grateful if you would click 'Helpful' below. Many thanks in advance)

Rapid Supreme S27 Halfstrip Stapler (Black/Red)The stapler. This is a half strip stapler and is very compact and easy to store or keep on your desk. As a teacher I use a lot of staples over the course of a term for notes, record keeping and repairs to leaflets etc. I use this almost everydayBuild quality. This unit is well made and easy to use. The moving parts are all metal and the top and bottom is high impact plastic. It takes standard staples and is easy to load.Loading.This stapler has a simple load system. Just lift the top part and drop the staples in. This is the traditional way staplers load and in my experience this type of spring feed mechanism is reliable. In use.As a home stapler it is great for the tasks we have.It certainly pushes the staple home well each time and we have experienced no jamming or halt in staples. One of its design features called the ‘flat clinch’ system stops the staple collapsing half way through a group of pages. This seems to work and doing up to 20 pages at a time we had no problems. For school use it is great and should last many years.Overall.Well it’s just a stapler but a very good one. Easy to use, robust and no jams so far. In my opinion an excellent home stapler or ideal for student use. Well made and the build will stand up to a hard and long life.

Not quite sure how to enthuse about a stapler ... but here goes. The Rapid Supreme S27 Stapler is a solid piece of office equipment, practical with the added bonus of looking good. The body is made of heavy duty plastic in a sleek black design with white plastic trimmings. The stapler feels good and fits the hand comfortably.Quite a heavy machine which instantly fills you with confidence as to its use ... up to 30 sheets of paper (depending on the thickness) stapled with ease. I used this stapler for a full afternoon to staple together groups of papers in my filing cabinet, not once did the machine jam or bend a staple which for an office stapler is a real bonus.A real feature of this stapler is the addition of the 'Super Flatclinch Technology',which means that this machine propels the staple through the paper and folds it 'flat' against the paper, which reduces your paper pile height quite considerably and allows you to place much more into your office binders. Quite brilliant. So to sum up, the 'Rapid Supreme S27', looks good, feels good and is extremely good at its job, plus it comes with a five year guarantee ... can't be bad!

As a lecturer I burn through a lot of staplers and hole punches - when I create handouts for my students - OFSTED insist that all handouts should be hole punched and stapled whether the students want them to be or not.Normally I use Rexel as they have a good reputation for the quality of their office equipment, but I have to admit that I like this Rapesco stapler. This is not a heavy duty stapler but will be a good one to staple the Government demanded (and mostly unnecessary) paperwork together. It feels well made and quite sturdy, bit of course only time will tell as to whether or not this will last as long (or longer than) my Rexel one.Loading the staples is easy.It has a rubberish foot that helps stop the stapler from sliding when you are stapling. The company claim that this can staple up to 20 pages but I wouldn’t like to make a habit of this as it would probably end up in the stapler afterlife with previous occupants of the desk drawer.

The Rapesco Supreme S27 is at first glance a standard half strip machine, using 24/6 and 26/6 staples. The design however, patented as SuperFlatClinch, enables the staples to be pressed completely flat against the underside of the stack of paper, thereby reducing the stack height by a quoted 40%. This feature is a real advantage when filing lots of stapled documents, thus preventing the top (stapled) corner of the document to be far thicker than the rest of the page and preventing the full capacity of the folder to be utilised.Everything else about the stapler is standard – size, mechanism, top filling, hand or desk operated, and most importantly it doesn’t need special staples,it works on standard ones. This S27 model handles up to 30 sheets of 80gsm paper, and the ‘superstrong’ S50 model will cope with up to 50 sheets. Note however that the S50 uses the 24/8 and 26/8 staples.A great design, easy to refill and operate.

The Super Flat Clinch is the deal maker here. Ordinary stapling makes stacking difficult where you end up having stapled papers sliding off the stack so you can't stack more even if you need to! It's not only that, I do carry a few stapled documents in my folder and with ordinary staplers, even just a few copies ended up being bulky in one corner, reducing variable space unevenly. With super flat flinch, I carry more documents with less fuss, flat as if the paper is not stapled. The Stapler itself feels sturdy and seems will last longer (could be why Rapid will stand by it for 5 years). It is easy to refill with staples, nothing to press, just pull the top upwards. It uses the ubiquitous 26/6 - 8 staple size as well as the other common and type, the 24/6 - 8.Quality Stapler just that, they priced it a little higher or may have been fine at the price if they bundled it with a box of staples.

9.6.2016

As staplers go this is pretty god. It is very well built and does pinch the stapled corners flat to reduce the corner bulk that you see with stacked bundles. A little trickier to use with a staple remover as they depend upon the teeth getting under the curved ends, but not an issue. Takes the bog standard staples that my office is undated with. Comfortable in the hand and works just as well when sat on a desk (although a little wobbly). Loaded the same way as most typical staplers, by lifting the handle and dropping in a strip of staples. Punches through paper cleanly and holds them tightly together.Very good stapler, but at the current price of nearly £15 I have to take a star off for value for money.I have a Rapid F30 flat clinch and it does the same job. That one is currently £12 and I still think that is a bit steep

A very sturdy and well made stapler, which comes with a small packet of staples.Minimal pressure is required to operate it, which means that it can be operated in the hand.Useful if you are short of space and just have 2 - 3 sheets to staple together quickly for a large number of multi-page documents. It staples up to 30 sheets of standard thickness paper. It's well made, so will survive falling to the floor from a desk, and has the look of an item that will stand up to heavy use.One of the advantages of this stapler is that it loads from the top - underside loading is always a bit fiddly, this is better. The USP of this stapler is that it staples with a flat clinch- useful if you are posting documents out,no staple to pierce the envelope.Useful office standard stapler.

This on first appearance appears to be an ordinary, well made stapler but actually has a new and still comparatively rare feature - it flattens staples as opposed to leaving a slight bend on each return. Doesn't sound much but you will notice the difference if you are preparing a large batch of documents all stapled in one corner. The ability to flatten the back of the staple noticably reduces the raised height at that corner of the pile that corresponds to the staple position. The price reflects the stapler's additional feature but. it has good a build quality to help justify the premium. It would undoubtedly be of benefit in a busy office, more so than as an occasional domestic tool.

This is a half strip, flat clinch stapler, which uses 24/6 or 26/6mm staples – 24/8 or 26/8 if you need the staple to be particularly strong. The idea of flat clinch stapling, means that the staples lie flat against the paper and this is especially useful if you are printing up piles of leaflets, handouts, etc, which otherwise have a tendency to slip and slide all over your desk.Apart from the advantage of the flat clinch stapling, this is a pretty standard stapler. It loads from the top, which I prefer and can staple up to thirty sheets.. Overall, a really good, robust and useful stapler, which can staple up to 30 sheets.

I have tried a lot of different staplers recently courtesy of the Vine programme and I had stated to think that I had seen it all. However this flat clinch stapler has introduced me to something that I have never been aware of previously and I have been stapling for more than half a century!I like this stapler – it works well in the hand and on the desk. It easily copes with 30 sheets, doesn’t take up much space and the flat clinch really does make for a neater job. The only downside is the price. I note you only get a 5 year warranty with these – whereas some others are good for 15 years. Takes bog standard 26/6 staples.
