Firstly, I'd like to admit that my real score for this game would be 4 stars out of 5, but I felt I had to try and counter-balance some earlier reviews. There's one fellow here who scored it 1 star - basically because it wasn't like Tiger Woods. If you only play golf in electronic form, have never picked up a club and you just want an entertaining diversion go play Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods is going to be more entertaining for someone who doesn't play golf but who does play videogames. The presentation here is not slick or showy and it's not as polished as other titles (though the new version for 360/PS3, out in a month or so, may be). Also, there's not much in the way of famous real-world courses and players featured here.Again, this will be a negative for many.A question for you: did you know that in Tiger Woods you can still control the flight of the ball once it's in the air? If you think that sounds completely daft then you're probably a ProStroke Golf kind of person. If you actually play real-world golf you're not going to care too much about the lack of gloss and celebrity endorsments. Even though this game is four years old now it's still the nearest thing to a decent console-bound golf simulator there is. I've been playing this game for a few years now and the way it manages to evoke a feeling similar to actual golf is still something I find pretty remarkable. It's hard to describe, but the way you use both joypad sticks in tandem to swing your club and hit the ball works extraordinarily well. And absolutely everything you can adjust in real-life (your feet position, the angle of the club head, the speed of your swing - literally everything) can be tweaked here. The physics are so good that the way you hit the ball in-game is just what you'd get in real-life. There are things I have learned through playing this game that I've been able to take onto an actual golf course. It's actually improved my game.My one real criticism would be that approach shots to the green, and long-range putts, are often needlessly vague and complex. You often have no idea what the green is going to be like until you're actually on it, so you often don't know how to play the hole until you've already had some experience of it. Occasionally a green will look uncomplicated and flat, but a low chip shot ends up rolling down a hill that you didn't know was there. Putting on a complicated green can be really hard to gauge and get a feel for. I'd imagine they've addressed this for the new version. But for the most part it's very, very, responsive. And the biggest compliment I can pay Prostroke Golf is that if it's raining and I can't go and play the real thing then playing this for a couple of hours really is the next best thing. And at the price this version is now being sold at it's an absolute steal.Summing up then I'd say this isn't for the kids - they're just not going to appreciate what this game is. Also, it should be noted that the commentary is amazingly repetative and will possibly need to be switched off. But if you want a couch-based golfing experience this should be your first and only stop. At least until October when the new version comes out.

I thoroughly enjoy playing this game. It is far more interesting, challenging and realistic than the Tiger Woods series and several current tour pros and real-life courses are featured. It creates it is own problems simulating the game excellently andthen leaving out two quite important aspects of the game:1. There are no options to 'drop' the ball if you are in trouble or in the water. You automatically have to replay the shot.2. You can't 'read' (no grid) the green unless the ball is lying on it.Other minor issues include:-Where are the women golfing characters (not essential but it would be nice)?-The characters are entirely emotionless, not even the faintest smile (or frown)is apparent.-It would be nice to be able to customise your player a little more.-There are absolutely no visible crowds making the crowd noises a bit spooky.-The commentary is at times bizarre as it often comments on where the ball pitches rather than where it ends up e.g. 'It is safely on the green' when in fact the ball pitched on it and then rolled off into a bunker.-The competition commmentary on the leaderboard is also mostly inaccurate: 'He is two off the pace' when in fact you may be top.As I am a reasonable real-life golfer the problems may affect me more than some people but I feel it important that you are aware before buying. If you can live with these faults(I can) then Prostroke Golf provides a magnificent version of the greatest game on Earth (my opinion).Buy it and enjoy it.

This game takes some getting used to but it's worth the effort. I like the swing system where, with the left analogue stick, you can put some more 'oomph' into your shots or open the club face for less distance but more backspin. It takes time to learn it, but with practice, it's possible to have control over your shots, and 18 courses is pretty generous! This game does aim more at simulation than other golf games. So even with lots of practice you'll have a few bad rounds, just like real golf, I guess! My only main gripes are that when putting from the fringe, you don't see the green grid, so some guesswork is involved, and on some courses, the fairways and rough can be hard to distinguish from each other when teeing off.Overall,a worthy alternative to EA's Tiger Woods games, but it'll be interesting to see how TW 2007 shapes up. The TW games in the past have been great fun but perhaps a little too easy and arcade-y for me.

Been looking forward to Prostroke Golf for months since i saw it at the london Golf show, and it was well worth the wait.It truly is a superb golf sim that captures the real feel of golf like no other video game has.Its got licenced players like Sergio Garcia, Monty, Woosnam, Rose, Curtis etc and lots of courses but what really stands this game out from the crowd is the prostroke control system that allows you to play any shot you like without having to select any other options.Ive have been a TW fan for years but this really is the most playable golf game i have ever played. If you are thinking of waiting for the next TW game or you are interested in sport or golf then i would definitelyrecommend you buy this you won't be disapointed.

If you have to choose one golf game from the 2 leading contenders (this and Tiger Woods 07) then you have a straight forward choice. You can go for the higher graphic detail and the option to select more real life golfers such as Monty and Tiger himself, or you can choose this game where the actual game of golf is better replicated. With ProStroke 2007 the things you would do on a golf course are the things you do in this game. With TW07 you still use after touch, which is the equivalent of shouting at the ball to make it spin back/ go left etc..It would be great if you could do that in real life ! And that's the difference, TW07 is fantasy arcade golf,PS07 is the Pro Evo Soccer of golfing games.

Nice to get a game that will appeal to adults as well - there seem to be fewer and fewer for the PS2 nowadays!Very accurate and it's nice just to look around some of the courses, which are very well presented.I'm completely hooked and find myself spending way too much time with it - but if you're looking for fast-paced action and adventure than this certainly won't be your cup of tea!!But if you want a game that looks beautiful, rewards thoughtfulness and accuracy - then this certainly holds your interest for many, many hours !!
