Before going into this review, I need to explain something about myself, to put the following into context... I hate gaming wheels on consoles. To me, they belong to the pseudo-elitist, prima donna you'd normally expect to find on a PC. The appeal of consoles is their equality, using to same tools to prove the better player, whereas wheels are no better than hacking, glitch exploiting or using micro transactions, anything to gain an advantage as opposed to 'getting good.' So, when I was considering a new racing game, reading the reviews that surround this offering, and being told by several players that a gaming wheel was not only desirable, but an absolute necessity, to play a console game offline,I was incensed, livid, sharpening my pitchfork before storming the castle. Then, I thought, I'd better try the game first. Loaded up, I signed on the dotted line and started my career in the Clio touring car series. The first couple of corners 'round Donnington, it looked like they were right, as I skidded onto the grass. Perhaps they're simulating cold brakes/tyres (yes, they were). I stood that in mind for the third corner, broke a little softer, and around it went, no drama. Coming down the straight before the chicane, I instinctively anticipated the brakes had cooled, touched them once to warm them up, and squeezed again for the actual braking. This is the best racing game I have ever played. Having now tried an assortment of cars and tracks, I assure you, this game is perfectly playable with just a controller. I hasten to add, that I use a fairly new, official Dualshock 4. If you use a third party, Gioteck or such, or a DS4 that has bared the brunt of one too many red mist moments, results may vary... badly, and probably explain why some other players have encountered issues. If you still have problems, here's some free tips from a mediocre player... me. First, ditch the chase cam, and get inside the car, using the head cam. Numerous benefits include a natural perspective, which you may already possess as a driver/passenger, with a feeling as to how the car's attitude coincides with the direction it's moving. This allows for much quicker anticipation and correction. Knock the game's AI down to about 15 or so. This will give you some breathing space while you get used to the controls, and you can increase it incrementally as you improve. Your primary, foremost objective is to get around the track, which is your first opponent after the car itself. Get used to braking while the wheels are pointing straight ahead, before the corner, squeezing the brake trigger gently, allowing you to maintain enough momentum to get round the corner, using only a touch of throttle... once you have cleared the corner, straightened your wheels again before accelerating. After a while, your fingers will learn to overlap braking, steering and throttle into one smooth action, a technique you'll adapt car to car. Do not coast. If you are not braking or using the accelerator, you are not in control, so a modicum of either is better than none. For curves, try to get down, or up, to the right speed before entering, and hold that speed. If you think you are going too fast, or the curve tightens, ease off the accelerator gently, rather than lifting completely. Should you still need to brake, do so softly without changing the amount of steering. A good rule of thumb, you should either change your speed, or your direction, not both at the same time. There's also some confusion as to how ABS works. It allows you some steering while under braking, not braking while steering. If the track is wet, brake earlier, take the turn slower, and accelerate later, once all tyres are on the tarmac and off the curb. The key word, you may have noticed, is gently or its synonyms. Should you now feel confident enough to try manual gears, my personal method is to reconfigure the right stick, up for gear up, and down for gear down. Pick the most boring car you can find, a long track/route, and go for a nice sunday drive, taking your time to enjoy the stunning graphics. No one is watching if you miss a gear, and if you're enjoying yourself, why should you care anyway? Going 'off track' is simply another expression for exploring. If you wish to join the wheel wielding egotists that poison every online racer currently going (some of them are actually really nice people, btw), then that's another matter, but my main concern were claims that the solo game was unplayable. I say again, gaming wheel is not required, only a delicate touch, mastery of which may [censored].

Project Cars is a next gen PC racing game with realistic grip levels (except in the wet) & physics, amazing visuals, realistic sound and dynamic weather conditions. This game is absolutely stunning to look at, but the pretty graphics come at a cost. To fully enjoy the game you need to be packing an Intel Core i7 or AMD FX-8350 processor, you will also need a pretty tasty GPU too. If you insist on getting 60 FPS+ at 1080P on max settings you're going require something in the realms of a GeForce GTX Titan, in clear weather conditions you will be able to achieve an average of 59 FPS, however in the rain the frame rate drops dramatically to an average of 34 FPS, its crazy.Even if you are lucky enough to own a £900 12GB GeForce GTX Titan X, you will only get an average of 48 FPS in rainy conditions! The graphics are stunning, no other racing game looks this good, this includes Forza & Drive Club, this wipes the floor with them. The level of detail is incredible, from the cars themselves, to the environment, and weather effects, its truly amazing. The weather system is fantastic and deserves a special mention. The rain looks super real, the droplets of rain that runs on the camera looks very realistic, and the spray from the leading cars looks authentic as do the puddles of standing water, racing in the rain really needs to be experienced first hand. The only downside about driving in the rain is the grip doesn't feel as realistic as you might expect. Driving a 500bhp RWD car on a wet track should slide all over the place if driven too hard, but it doesn't which is a little disappointing and detracts slightly from the overall experience. If you play a lot of racing games, and/or you know a lot about cars you can adjust and tune almost every part of the suspension setup, which will help you improve your cars handling resulting in better lap times. There is a career mode within the game, but its different to Drive Club for example, where depending on how well you are doing, or what races you have completed determines which cars you unlock along the way. With Project Cars all of the vehicles, every single one are unlocked from the very beginning, so you sort of lose the incentive to do well. Some people, particularly casual players might prefer this so they don't have to put in lots of hours to unlock the best and fastest cars, but a lot of people would prefer to earn the right to drive the best cars. The actual racing experience is OK, if you play offline and race against the AI you should do quite well as the AI isn't very good, which is a disappointment. To get the most out of the game you need to play online against real people, but you run the risk of being trolled and bashed off the track by idiots during races. If you want a realistic driving simulator it falls a little short, there is probably better out there, but its still an enjoyable racer. I'm sure along the way various patches will be released which will improve the career mode, and Project Cars can become the racing game that everyone expected it to be.

September 2016 and the price has reduced tremendously nowadays, between £12 - £20 if you shop around on the internet. The game itself is not a simulator, nor, is it an arcade game, it's between the two, and if you have a good gaming computer this should play very smoothly. I only installed the game yesterday, so, I haven't played every track yet, but, what is available is breathtaking, from all the major British & European racing circuits, to Bathurst in Australia, Dubai, 6 different circuits in America, the Cote D'Azur in the South of France, Japan and China are represented as well. You have everything from the Pacific Coast Highway and the Mediterranean Coastline in France, to F1 racetracks, roadways and desert courses. The range of vehicles to drive is equally excellent with most things available to drive from Go Karts to Formula 2, road racing saloons and stock cars. You have to experiment with everything to get the best settings for performance and gameplay smoothness, if you go on the Project Cars forum many folks have had an Unhandled Exception error message pop up recently, with many responses from the community to turning settings down and disabling functions that may interfere with the power and graphics, that seems to be the biggest headache playing the game at present, but, if you have a mid - high end gaming computer you should be able to tweak things to overcome this problem. The interface does take a little bit of time to get used to, there is a button to press to get to the screen to change all the settings for gameplay performance, sound and visual effects, as well as a Digital Manual to read, it's all trial and error and experimentation to get things just right, but, when it's all working OK this is a fantastic game, lots of fun, a bit cheesy at times, but, superb textures and the creativity of the local areas to the roads and buildings, bridges and tunnels, is quite brilliant. Equally as good is the soundpack, the echos as you go through tunnels and under bridges is spot on, seagulls by the coast and the enginesounds are loud and you can feel as if you're sitting right there behind the wheel. You have various options for turning on and off the various settings from the length of the grass to rain effects and the sun's rays, it's all been catered for. Definately worth obtaining for a lot of enjoyment and entertainment as a single player, or, Multiplayer with your family, friends and fellow race driving fans.

I've played a lot of racing games on various games consoles, over the years. Project cars is more challenging and, fun than most racing games. With the game of the year edition, their are more extra goodies on offer on the disc. More extra race circuit's and, road tracks and, over 120 cars to choose from, as well extra community created racing liveries. In quite a few of the reviews I've read about this game, some reviewers recommend that you buy a steering wheel to play this game. However I've found I can play this game perfectly well using the standard dual shock 4 controller. The graphics and, visuals in this game are incredibly well detailed. The circuit's are stunning and,the best I've seen in any racing game on any console. The cars are also very well detailed. One of the cars in the game that has become one of my personal favourites, is the lotus 72 which is powered by Ford cosworth DFV V8, which has around 490bhp. When the tyres are cold, the lotus 72 is pretty twitchy but, when the tyres warm up it handles really well. Definitely worth taking the time to get used to driving this particular car. What also impresses me about this game, are the engine and, exhaust noises. Some of the cars sound ferocious. The lotus 72 has a pretty loud exhaust note and, the pagani zonda revolucion has a ferocious sounding V12. The BMW M1 race cars sound very impressive also. The handling on the various cars definitely feels different from one car to the next. The road cars are fun to drive but, clearly feel very different to drive compared to the race cars. The caterham 7 for example is lot of fun to drive and, it's handling is good but, can be a little twitchy at times. Which makes it even more fun. There are lots of different racing events to take part in, from go karting to the ultra fast LMP1 events. There are also quite a few historic car events, that take place as you progress through the games career mode.I would certainly recommend project cars to anyone. Trust me you won't regret it. A very good racing game that is both fun and, challenging.

This game is very close to greatness but a few things hold it back.ProsGraphics are great have it running on most things ultra on a 4 gig 770 1080p and get 60fps can't complain all cars and tracks look top notch and a huge range of camera options with each one getting a wide range of f.o.v adjustment.Tracks, loads of tracks to choose from, more than any other racer I have played on PC or console, they all look good but not lazer scanned so missing the extra detail of bumps etc of the latest games like assetto corsa.Difficulty, there are loads of options for a.i. and driving aids, race length, make your own races how you like, great stuff.Cons,Handling is good, use a g27 and is good but not anywherenear using all the wheels senses, can't feel all the little bumps and oversteer moments anywhere near as good as assetto corsa and some cars handle perfect such as the Audi R8 but some feel off like the ruf Porsche. The handling is just not alive in your hands as it should be,Assetto corsa you can feel tyre scrub through the wheel on the limit, not here.Sound,The sound is a bit rough around the edges, lots of the audio samples are poor like the rumble strips, the car tyre squeal is also bad and way too quiet so you can't hear your car skidding but you can hear the go karts skidding much louder it's odd.engine sounds are also a mixed bag not on par with codemasters or assetto corsa but at least a step up from granturismo.Final verdict, worth buying for sure but if it had the handling and sound of assetto corsa it would in my opinion be the best racing sim to date.

..and I've played a few since my Acorn Electron / Acorn back in 1985!I'm not going to go into much detail as I'm sure you have read reviews, seen videos and seen the progress of Project Cars from its early development. The graphics are amazing although you need a pretty decent PC setup to make the most of this. Although a mid weight PC will still satisfy in giving good FPS with some of the finer details turned down a couple of notches. The lighting / weather engine is probably the best out there. The handling is great once you have everything setup correctly. It's worth spending the time researching the best settings for your wheel.I jumped into the game thinking everything would be ok...far from it.It is so important to feel the game environment back through your wheel as much as possible. Not only will this immerse you more into the game, it will make it more enjoyable. Stick with it and it will be worth it.What I like most, and is a recent discovery, is the online multiplayer. So much fun and everybody seems so dedicated in the setup ethics and general racing... without the idiots who get cast out as soon as they start fooling around.A must have for dedicated sim racers' who want to step away from the console generations of arcade like sims.A beautiful game thats amazingly in depth and visually stunning.

Downloaded on Steam via pre order, been waiting for this for soooooo long. Worth the wait, I have Forza 4 on my XBox 360 and my daughter has Forza 5 on her XBox One I love both those games and although this doesn't boast the pure number of cars it's still my favourite of the three. With everything turned to ultra the look on this game is amazing and the racing is close and you feel like you are actually in the thick of the action. I haven't delved into the car mechanics and settings yet so can't comment on them but loving the game. I have it running on my 2 PCs the main one is an i7-3770 with 16gig of ram and a 2gig nvidia gtx 760 controlled with a Logitech formula force ex force feedback wheel and pedals and it looks and feels lush,so I decided to install on my old gaming PC now used as my media centre which is an Intel q6600 12 gigs of ram and a 2 gig nvidia gtx 650ti and although I have the settings turned down to medium and high it still looks gorgeous, note I am running both at 1080p resolution. Basically you can't get a better racer than this on the PC although must say Ride is also worth a look but only once you have got this!!

Great game, having played alot of forza games it took a day or two to get used to the physics of the game but it's a really great game and I like that you can play multiplayer with steam and there are good cars In the game although I would definitely like to see some more road cars in the future for instance I can't believe the Bugatti Veyron isn't in the game and I can believe Porsche aren't in the game altogether but the track selection is good and everything else, I also like how in career you can choose a tier to start at, personally I started on the superkarts and they are great fun or I would recommend the normal karts for begginers. All and all its a great game and I would recommend itto anyoneONE WORD OF WARNING THOUGHThe product key is NOT one you peel off it is a scratch one DO NOT MAKE THAT MISTAKE because the first time I got it I tried to peel off the sticker for the activation code and I ripped it, luckily amazon where very helpful in processing an immediate refund and issued me another copy with courtesy next day deliveryThanks-Liam Hayne

I would describe this game as an extremely high quality "standard" racing game. That is, fantastic real-world tracks (incl all the classics such as Spa and Nordschleife), fantastic real-world cars, and great graphics. This game doesn't have any "gimmicks" to it. It's just great driving, focusing on what's actually really important, and doing it well. The handling is very realistic. As an ex-PC gamer who recently moved to PS4, and who used to always use a wheel for racing games, I'm actually having no problem driving with the PS4 controller. With the controller, my driving is competent, but not as smooth as it would be with a wheel. If you really love racing and want to get fast times and beat people online, then get a wheel. If you just want to have a fun half hour of driving/racing every now and then, the controller is fine.On the PS4, this game, along with DIRT Rally, are basically THE racing games to have, as far as I'm concerned.

Best game of the genre I have played. Here's why: very big track and car selection. Impressive car selection from decades past to todays prototypes. Full control over ALL settings; car, track, weather and so on. Using a PS4 controller is very good and very precise in handling. I say this because when starting my career I found it difficult to control the car because 1. not enough experience gained in game driving class of car 2. did not realise, at first, tyres and brakes need time to warm up. When I had gained enough experience car handling was a joy whether dry or wet. In short, I honestly believe this is the best driving sim I have played. Project Cars 2 I have yet to play. For me this franchise is head and shoulders above the rest. I know because I've played them, for years. For a driving game this franchise is where it's at - no mistake. I love it.

Started the game, done the update, didn't work. Everything was padlocked only thing available was the (practice race) Started again, still everything was padlocked. The game was fully installed but i couldnt do anything other than the 1 track. After checking online this is a common problem with some ps4s. After reinstalling the game and upate numerous times to no avail i was ready for returning as absolutely nothing was changing no matter what i did ? i even tried it on my sons and had the same issue. I then discovered that pressing the touchpad allows me to start my career ??. This is a great racing game and worth the hour (or 2) it took me to realise this.I would definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a great racing game that allows you to start a career and race your way to top

I can't say what the online play is like, but if you've got a ffb wheel and you put all the settings in on the project cars ffb settings Website then you'll not find a better sim, the settings are most important, the graphics are amazing the weather is amazing, well worth the money includes all extra content, for purely driving enjoyment with a ffb wheel you can't get better, cars stick to the road better than forza 6, better graphics and overall feel than assetto corsa, but it's just a pure driving sim u don't win any cars or any money etc... I've got every racing title and for a few hours pure racing this is top, lacks the variety of forza as u can race on forza paint tune get showcase events win cars money etc...But project cars just can't be beat for psychics!

After getting the ylod on my ps3 I had to invest in a ps4 and as there's no gran turismo game till November I purchased this game to play till then. After reading the reviews about it being impossible to Control with a controller I was a bit sceptical. It turns out it's perfectly fine. I think the problem people have is you have to make sure your tyres and brakes are up to temperature so give it a couple of laps before you push it hard. For the tuning side of it all I've done so far is lower the pressures of the rear tyres to stop oversteer and adjusted the brake balance. This has been enough so far but I'm sure further into the game you go more will need to be done. All in all a really good game with excellent graphics and great gameplay.

Simply awesome. Having been a motorsport competitor for real, I can honestly say that this 'game' is as real as it gets. The feedback from a Thrustmaster wheel is very authentic, including the difference in feel between cold and hot tyres. I can't speak for the foreign tracks, but the UK tracks are very accurate, including things like the bump coming onto the start/finish straight at Donington. A truly amazing simulation, and immeasurably better than Forza6, which in my opinion is a massive step backwards from Forza4. Don't hesitate, buy this game!

19.1.2018

Great game very playable. I have used both joypad and steering wheel/pedal set up. It work well with both. I come back to this game again and again. I have tried the new Project Cars 2 and Grand Turismo Sport games and I find them not as good as this game. The handling of the cars is great, some are difficult to drive if you are used to just planting the power on straight away, you have to be a bit more gradual with the throttle pedal/ shoulder button. Best driving game on the PS4 in my honest opinion
