Popstar Guitar is what it looks like. A rival to Guitar Hero aimed at younger gamers or those with more pop orientated tastes. But it's also more than that.Popstar Guitar has a much wider range or music than Guitar Hero, that will include something for almost everyone. If you're not in to Rock then that's a definite plus for Popstar Guitar. The music ranges from pure pop like Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' and Miley Cyrus, to the mainstream but mature KT Tunstall and Rhianna, To things like Bowling For Soup for the grungier cool kids, to stuff like Greenday and Paramore that would be at home on Guitar Hero. (Misery Business by Paramore actually IS on BOTH games!)I'm a Metal Head /Rocker personally but my girlfriend likes more pop and RnB. We both love this game though. The only downside to the songs is that over half of them are not performed by the original artists. They're still good however, and most are very faithful reproductions. It may still annoy those who are major fans of the bands though. Many people have said that Popstar Guitar is too easy, or easier than Guitar Hero. I would definitely not agree with this. Speaking from experience having completed most of Popstar Guitar AND Guitar Hero World Tour (both on the hard setting). On the easiest settings, Popstar Guitar is much harder than Guitar Hero World Tour and on the hardest settings there is little difference. Yes Guitar Hero has one extra button, but that's really not that hard once you get used to it. The one song that is on both games (Misery Business by Paramore) is actually quite a lot harder on Popstar Guitar requiring you to do the main riff note for note once on Easy and throughout the song on Medium, whereas Guitar Hero World Tour doesn't make you do this at all until Hard. Many have also commented on the perceived speed of Popstar Guitar being Slower than Guitar Hero. It's just not. Guitar Hero angles the on screen fret board and makes the notes grow bigger as they approach so that they appear to come from a distance and accelerate towards you by making them fill a progressively bigger part of the screen. Popstar Guitar doesn't resort to these tricks. The result: no difference. They both follow the speed of the songs. Guitar Hero just uses an optical illusion to make you feel like you're going faster. The one thing that does make a big difference between the games is the controller. Whereas Guitar Hero uses a realistic guitar shaped controller, Popstar Guitar has a plastic cover called an Air-G that goes over your Wii remote. This is a lot more comfortable because it means you can have your arms in any relaxed position you choose, meaning that you may be able to play for longer and more comfortably. Not to mention how much easier it is to store when you're not playing! So would I recommend Popstar Guitar? If you like Guitar Hero and the song list of Popstar Guitar appeals to you then YES! If not then probably not. You Guitar Hero / Hard Rock fans know who you are and are probably only reading this to see if I tear the game apart. If you're considering buying this game already though: just buy it!!!
