I tried several 'double' toppers and none of them were remotely close to fitting a double bed. I appreciate that you don't need an electric blanket to fill the mattress, but I can't understand why the manufacturers make the blankets so small they just have tapes across the corners or the elements barely come close to the edge. So I got this Pifco blanket because it said it had a skirt like a sheet to help it fit the mattress. The blanket does fit my IKEA double mattress really nicely, the elements are a bit sparse, in that there is quite a gap in the middle, but it is designed for two people to share and have controls for each half so I guess that's why.The other thing I was confused about is that each side of the blanket has it's OWN plug.I was hoping you could detach the control for the other side and just control from one if you needed to, but each side needs it's own power supply. Be careful if you have limited sockets near the bed. I have my blanket plugged into a smart wifi plug so I can tell it to turn on in advance of me getting into bed which is very handy. But because there are two power plugs I have to have them both go into a multiplug supplied by the smart plug which doesn't feel ideal. The blanket heats up nice and quickly and is very warm on 3. I never sleep with mine left on, but I suppose you could leave it on 1 all night just to take the edge off. Overall it seems like a quality item, it doesn't move around because the skirt helps it stay in place, but I had to get a kingsize version for it to even come close to heating my bed effectively. My only complaint is that it's not hugely clear that the blanket requires two seperate plugs to power each side, and that you can't control the whole thing from just one side if you choose. Ideally you would be able to pick which side you connected, and also control the whole bed, especially if your partner falls asleep and you can't reach the power control.

I didn't know that fitted electric blankets existed, only previously having been used to the ones that you had to tie to the bed. This is exactly like a fitted sheet and has generously sized side bits that under the mattress - it would be suitable for even very thick mattresses. It fits directly on top of the mattress and you can then put mattress protectors, sheet etc on top of the electric blanket. There is a plug socket type attachment in the pillow area on each side, into which you plug the control switch. Each controls switch needs to be plugged into the mains. Each controller heats up one side of the blanket, and has 3 heat settings. In my case,I have only plugged the controller in on my side as my husband doesn't like a pre-warmed bed (although he may change his mind when we're in the depths of winter!). Therefore, my side is heated to my specification and his side remains totally unheated. It heats up very quickly. If you put it on the highest setting (3) whilst you clean your teeth etc, it's very warm by the time you get into bed.Pifco offer an extended 3 year guarantee (as opposed to the standard 1 year) if you register the product online, which I have done. It seems a good quality blanket and the fact that you can even machine wash it is an added bonus. A king sized one would need to be taken to a launderette I would imagine though, as I would worry that bundling it into a standard sized machine would damage the heating elements.Arrived quickly and very quick to set up. A great price compared to other similar products. Highly recommended.

Anticipating some chilly nights, I succumbed to temptation and have given up the hot water bottle solution.FitThis is a simple under blanket. The double size fits my 5' bed adequately. As other writers have commented, you need to position it to sit below the level of the pillows and, yes, there is an uncovered area about 8" at the bottom of the bed. There is a small uncovered border on the sides as well. However, I don't lie on the edges of the bed so its an acceptable fit.The ties thread through the tabs to secure it and, although a little fiddly, they hold the blanket in place.ComfortI wondered if it would be possible to feel the element through the blanket but even with my "princess and pea" tendencies,it's perfectly comfortable.UsabilityIf I switch it on 20- 30 mins before bed, the bed is beautifully warm. I switch it off as I'm going to bed and then stay comfortable all night. The gaps on the edges (see comments about fit) do not prevent it from heating the bed perfectly well.Update - Dec 2013A year on and I'm still loving having a toasty bed to climb into. At the end of the winter it washed perfectly ok on a gentle wash and went away till November this year.I was so impressed with it that I treated my daughter to one last January and she's loved it. It even survived a baptism of tea when she was reading in bed!

I have had this throw over the back of my sofa for a year now and it is one of the best purchases I ever made. I don't need to heat the whole house as I can just sit under this. It has 5 heat settings and 4 time settings (which are super easy to use). I washed it in summer (again easy as it detaches from the plug in one easy movement) and feared it might not be the same after but it's good as new. My normal routine is now.. get home from work, pop the blanket on - pressing one button to select "4 hrs" and one button press to select "heat level 3 of 5)and within 10 minutes it's a lovely warm temperature. Rest of the house is freezing but I am sooooo cosy and comfortable with my blanket wrapped around me.If I forget to turn it off it will just turn itself off after 4 hours so it is safe too.I am going to buy another for our house as if it would break now (and considering I have used it every single day I am home for on average 4 hours for about 9 months of the year I wouldn't blame it) I would be lost without it. I am also going to buy one for my mum and brother as despite me raving about it they haven't got one and I feel bad for them not having it!

Lovely underblanket. The fitted sheet had plenty to tuck under the mattress and so there is little movement. heats up quickly and gets very warm. I put it on 3 to heat the bed and then put it down to 1 through the night so it wasn't too hot. When taking it out of the packaging you can feel the wires, however, cannot feel them at all when lying on them. The elements do not reach right to the bottom of the bed but do go far enough down that when the bed is warmed you don't need them any lower. The detachable controllers are a plus as you do not need to have them hanging from the side of the bed when not in use.Dual control is also wonderful as one half can be warned while the other half is cooler - the only downside is that each control needs to be plugged into the mains separately which wasn't a problem for me as I have sockets either side of the bed but may be a problem if you don't (the cord lengths are generous though) I would highly recommend this product.

I read a lot of reviews on different electric blankets and luckily chose this one. I have it under a mattress topper and it is truly lovely. Toasty warm bed to get into and it heats up very quickly. I didn't use the ties to fix round the mattress and the blanket has not moved at all, even when changing sheets. I can imagine that under a sheet alone the box where the plug fits into the blanket might be lumpy. Under the mattress topper its no problem. The blanket is wider and longer that the average single electric blanket - another bonus. Someone mentioned the on off switch was noisy and woke her partner and it does make a small click - but it doesn't worry my partner. As you look at the bed standing at the bottom the on off switch is on the RIGHT. Wrong side for me as we have a super king bed, but I just fed the wire through the top of the mattress. Voila. Don't hesitate - this a fab electric blanket, and very reasonably priced.

The bed is so warm, this is an amazing product for the price. I was a little concerned when I took it out the packaging as it did look small for a double bed and the fixing points didn't look sufficient. However, I positioned the blanket where our shoulders rest and threaded the cord through the loops (2 on each side) and under the mattress. The cord holds the electric blanket across the top and bottom and, to my surprise, it stays put and doesn't crease. The blanket is turned on about an hour or so before going to bed (setting 2) and heats the fitted sheet and the duvet. I don't leave the blanket turned on overnight, but sometimes switch it on in the morning (setting 1).Place the electric blanket between your mattress protector (if you use one) and the sheet. The blanket doesn't reach the end of the bed - I'm 5'6" and my feet are just on the end, but the bed is so warm I don't think this matters.

I normally am very panicky when it comes to electric devices that might overheat and cause damage in the house, and even more so when it comes to something like an electric blanket, but I felt safe to buy this product since it had the automatic overheat protection mentioned in the description. I've had it for two weeks now and it has been of great use, especially since I am really bad at facing cold temperatures and am constantly too cold under several layers of blankets. This electric blanket is really easy to use, it takes a while for it to heat to full temperature, but once it has reached that, it really makes a difference.I like the fact that it also has two different heat settings,so you can choose the level you think is closest to your needs.I recommend it to all those who are bad at facing the cold and need a bit of help staying warm at night. It's helped me a lot!

Takes a while to heat up - If you put it on setting 3 for 30 mins or so. It warms up great. Nice and snug in the cold weather. We leave the blanket on under a mattress protector so you don't feel the wires. It's left on over night on a 1 or 2 setting - 3 is just too hot to sleep when on. on 1 or 2 it's lovely and comfortable with no house heating on. There is a plug in for the controller which sits on each side of the King Size cover just below Pillow position. It's been fine for us - not too obtrusive. It definitely get's 2 Paws Up from our resident Labrador. After switching on to warm - the Lab goes up to bed to do some testing of the heat output. The blanket fits our thick king size mattress really well.It looks like it would fit very thick mattresses.Definitely a recommended purchase by us!

I"m 5 foot 9 and find this blanket isn't quite long enough to comfortably snuggle. This is the only reason why I have given in 4, not 5 stars. However, it is incredibly soft and warm and it meant the heating in the house can stay off, saving the cost of the throw in no time at all I"m sure. The quality is absolutely excellent. I have it on at least once a day. Realistically, you only need to heat yourself and not the whole room so the planet benefits too from not having the heating on! It heats up very quickly and you only really need it on a low setting once it has heated up. The colour is a natural stone colour, not quite as yellow as the picture and it is 10 times more soft than I was expecting. My cold blooded greyhound keeps looking at it longingly!

For the price it's ok if it lasts 3yrs. You need to turn up to 3 for 15 mins before going to bed to take the chill off the blankets. Not tried all night yet, but guess it would keep you warmHad the Dreamland before and that is incredible, BUT, they are expensive and when they only last 1-2yrs and we have had 2 I wasn't prepared to waste anymore money on them.So this is basic, fits the double bed well, the heating area goes from just the edge of the pillows to about 9" from the foot of the bed, it also covers from side to side. The connection is quite bulky but I havnt felt it whilst in bed & neither has my wife (and she is fussy).Good value for money but not as hot as Dreamland, but if it lasts longer I will be happy.

I wasn't actually expecting much - turns out I was completely wrong! This little beauty is amazing. No more hot water bottles for me and it helps to keep me, my feet and my back all warm and toasty. Don't be deceived by the size of it; it works well and is deceptively large enough. I'd recommend moving it slightly lower down the bed to make sure your head doesn't get too hot. Also, try to remember to switch it down to low or better still, off, once you're all warmed up. Amazing buy and I wouldn't be without it in winter. Just make sure that if you're the kind of person who moves around a lot in bed that you check it's in place properly next time before you get into bed.

This Pifco electric heated throw is one of my favourite purchases of all time. It can be used while sitting in your favourite chair in front of the tv or on the bed where it is used as an over blanket. The control is simple to operate and very clear with coloured lds to indicate the amount of heat set and the time it will be in operation. I have to say that I was so impressed with the one I bought originally that I had to send for another just in case the first one should develop a fault. Well I am lucky and have to state that the original is still working very well and I simply could not do without it now. It is easy to set and operates perfectly.

I love this blanket/throw! I really feel the cold, so I bought this throw to keep me warm when watching the TV in winter. It is lovely and soft, so very comfy to have over you. The electric wires do not interfere with its bendyness, so it folds around you like a normal blanket. The different heating settings are excellent, so you can adjust the temperature as needed. I also use it without the heating on slightly warmer nights. If I had to suggest an improvement, it would be to have a longer lead so I can move further away from a plug point when watching TV - hence the 4 stars and not 5.

I like to be always warm...but does not want to suffer on paying too much gas bill. This is an excellent product keeping my family warm at night. However for others who does not like warm bed like my mum...this product is not for you....Thinking she is elderly and need a warm bed I purchase it for her...she does not like it as she said it makes her feel too hot..............on the contrary ...my family compete who will be sleeping on it...ended up buying for more.....I wish there is a timer though so saves me from getting up in the middle of the night to switch it off.
