This is possibly the best digital voice recorder (DVR) and I’ve had a few. I love it. It is giving excellent clarity and speed of recording from “off” to “recording” is a one button push and in what appears to be less than a second it is recording. The DVR has 2 microphones which helps with the clarity of the audio content. It can be charged via the USB port on the DVR, so once you’ve downloaded your files from the DVR to your computer you can just leave it plugged into the computer and charge it while you work. There is no need to worry about turning tapes over or running out of memory – especially if you regularly download from DVR to computer. This is in my bag and goes everywhere with me – Ihave found it very handy – something that I can use to prove what people have said and what was said to them.Best of all, comparing this to all the ones that I have before, this really does look the business. As a lecturer and tutor I record my own lectures so that I can assess where I need to improve and to ensure that I covered all the important points with clear explanation. I do let students have copies of audio files if they have missed a lecture due to ill health or emergency. In both cases I now require proof – this is due to students taking advantage of the situation. As a student I used to audio-record the various lessons, lectures, seminar and classes. I found that it was better to do that than rely on my own note taking ability during a 2- or 3-hour lecture, especially if it was the 3rd or 4th lecture of the day. No matter how good you are at note taking or how closely you pay attention to the class you will always miss something important. At that time even the smallest of these machines was chunky, clunky and very heavy – machines like Sony TCM150.CE7 Compact Tape Recorder.I chose machines that would take the generic audio tape cassettes, rather than the micro cassettes which only held about 10-15 minutes and would need to be changed multiple times during one 2-hour class. These micro cassettes were also expensive, especially when compared to the price of generic cassettes,I tended to use the C-90 tapes giving approximately 45 minutes of recording time per side. Each 2-hour lecture would take at least at least 2 tapes. If I had on average of 3 2-hour lectures per day and to record those lectures would require at least 2 tapes per lecture; so that would mean at least 6 tapes per day. Yet that isn’t it.There are also the spare/emergency batteries – usually either 3 or 4 AA batteries – depending on the make of battery is the length of time they will last. So, in my bag each day would be the dictation machine, tape cassettes (with a couple of spares), batteries (and spares); and then there are the notepads, pens, etc – with all that weigh it’s no wonder that I had back problems. Not only that but adding up the cost of the batteries and tapes is eyewatering.Strangely, these machines always managed to make an inexplicably loud clunk when they reached the end of a side. Having managed to attract the attention of the entire arena I would then have to turn the tape over manually which was not a quiet action. Even the reversible recorders would make a groaning/squeaking noise before the excruciating clunk which would echo around the lecture theatre, and the tapes would have to be changed at the end of the second side.I wish I'd had this machine when I was at college and university, it would certainly have saved me a lot of money, embarrassment and backache. The improvements made to voice/dictation recorders has been interesting – from heavy, bulky block to light, multi-function, and slimline.Playback is very clear and the volume goes up quite high (which is loud enough to be heard across an entire seminar or meeting room). It is easy to use and it has a back light which helps with navigation through the menus. There is also a "beep" which sounds every time you initiate or stop recording. Both backlight and beep can be turned off if you don't want them.If you need a small, light weight digital recorder then this would be a good option to consider – I would honestly and wholeheartedly recommend this DVR.

I'm delighted with my new Philips Dictaphone. The packaging and item itself are beautifully designed with clean lines and everything easy to see and open - packed with love and care. The Dictaphone fits in my palm just like my mobile phone, and has a nice polished steel appearance.Although I'm tech-savvy for an old gal, and use a smartphone with ease, I like this separate item because I am visually disabled and work as a Clerk of the Court. I'm finding it helpful to keep court matters absolutely separate from any personal. The dictaphone has lots of features that assist me - clear icons on the screen, and delete button marked in red. Re-recording on the same file is much easier than on my smartphone which means that 'version issues'will be a thing of the past. If I want to quickly expunge an item I really can.The instructions leaflet is superb - clear, decent sized font and all in grammatically correct English! I feel like giving Philips 5 stars just for that. I've also been able to purchase the Philips docking station, so i won't have to recharge the dictaphone on my laptop USB, which is one of my pet hates. As a disabled person I like docking stations because I always know where to find the item in question.Philips has a large number of employees around Amsterdam. I support family based or traditional worksmanship whenever I can in my purchases, and on the whole I'd rather pay a bit more for an item that doesn't fall apart after three months.Because a dictaphone is so important in enabling me to lead a normal life with a disability, I feel the cost of this item is well worth it.So far, so good.

Dictation is very useful once you get into the knack of it. This comes with software (trial) that allows yu to upload your dictations and have them written up for you. Basically like having your own PA or secretary! Quite useful, however the trial is short and then there's a fee which I wasn't prepared to pay for. You'd be better having Dragon Dictate do the task for you if you already have that and have trained your computer to your voice.Screen resolution is good and marking different clips as notes, meetings etc is useful. Buttons on the device give a positive feel and you know when you've pressed them. Startup time is less than a second which is far superior to the Voice Tracer models which are about 3 seconds to start up with a silly philips logo and noise.Storage on this device is massive and will take some filling. Searching for clips by date is easy to to also. The only thing that would make this better is connectivity to a smart phone to allow faster access to voice clips. Also a great tool to add clear speech to video, add these into your video editing software and you can line up audio media automatically in most good editing suites. Also comes with a smart black leatherette style case, has agents built in to keep the case open. Very good but loses a star for the price.

A good quality personal digital dictaphone. The casing is made of stainless steel meaning it is particularly resilient. It comes with a full colour screen which is clear, and larger, than an older Philips dictaphone I have with a black and white screen. It doesn't use standard batteries - there's an inbuilt USB-chargeable battery. The memory is, in fact, an 8gb SD disk. This allows for a remarkable 623 hours of recording! But, of course, it's very easy to change SD cards as necessary. The dictaphone is very easy to use - the buttons, and the set up menu - are all pretty much self explanatory.Novel features, which will include a bit of practice, include the ability to prioritise recordings which should be dealt with first, and SpeechExec software which helps to organise the recordings. The latter is most suited to larger office environments though where there are multiple transcriptors. You also get a very small trial of Philips SpeechLive service.Negatives, well the dictaphone is pretty expensive, certainly at the full list price. It's also a bit large - a fairly heavy and thick mobile phone size. And I'm in two minds about the SD card system. It's certainly flexible but a little low tech.Overall a cautious four stars.

Brilliant little device for all things sound, we got this to use at work for meetings etc just put on the table and press record , you get clear playback of the proceedings and the sound is good , could be very useful for colledge/school lectures that you need to go over rather than taking lots of notes, so you can sit back and really listen.yes if you have a high end smartphone this maybe surplus to requirements but if you need to share the information you can hand this over without worry (you probably wouldnt do this with your phone). The build quality of the unit is very good and is all stainless steel, the display is clear and I found it easy to use after the first go,I like that i can increase the memory or give the card to someone else whilst I use another. The lithium battery ensures it won't loose charge. It is however a little pricy for a one application product

The Dictaphone arrived promptly and well packaged. I've been using this for over a month now. It did take a while to get used to some of the functions / buttons and the filing system - but once that was mastered, I was pleased with this. The phone comes with a rechargeable Li-on battery and an SD card to keep your voice files on. The record quality was very good and I have used it with my voice software to convert to text. This is a very good digital Dictaphone - perhaps slightly on the high price. but its recording and play back quality are excellent.

This is a solid dictaphone suitable for all sorts of situations. In my case, I wanted to use it for recording text to be transcribed by Dragon Dictation and it worked perfectly for this. Built into a high quality metal case, this dictaphone is robust - though I haven't dropped it, I reckon it would stand up to a fair bit of use. Sound quality is excellent and the interface easy enough to navigate around. A premium product

Excellent design, intuitive and fantastic quality.I use this for dictating a number of items including e-mails, memo's, letters and reports. Also now included Speech Recognition, which speeds up the process further.Certainly if you are producing any documentation I would recommend this product.

Very like the Philips dictaphone I've been using for years - which is a massive plus. Very good value compared with other sellers.
