I will divide this into two different recommendations. If your a happy amateur that wants a good flash to use in automatic or TTL-mode together with your Olympus OM-D, PEN or any other type of Olympus Micro-Four-Thirds camera you don't have to read any longer. Just buy it, it will serve you very well and have all that you really need from a flash. If you however are an enthusiast or semi-pro please read on. I bought this flash (or rather two of them) mainly for the built in wireless trigger system that works together with my Olympus OM-D but it turned of to be rather useless due to the maximum flash sync of 1/160 but that is a limitation of my camera rather than the flash.I now use it together with a radio based trigger system and everything works perfectly. Its size together with the fact that it uses four AA which allows for really fast recharge times makes it perfect for on-location shoots. It also has a small led light that can be used as a video light, or more relevant for me, as a modeling light. The only three problems I have with it is firstly that the flash head only locks in its lowest and highest positions not the intermediate ones, these are only relying on a mechanical resistance. This is usually not a problem when the flash is used as is but when you attach a heavy beauty dish or something similar it becomes hard to tilt the flash and have it remain in that position. It is not a huge problem as one usually have the flash either in hand or on a flash stand with a tilting head when using that type of equipment. Secondly, when used manually (as always is the case with radio triggers) the flash can be set between full power and 1/128th of full power. Personally I would have preferred if it also had a setting for 1/250th as this would have given me more choices without having to use ND-filters. Thirdly, some of the settings on the flash is a bit strange. By default it uses GN-settings rather than fractions of power, it uses m4/3 focal lengths rather than 35mm dittos but all this can be changed i the menus. What however can not be changed is the maximum zoom setting of 85mm (35mm eqv.) something that is a bit lower than the 90mm focal length that is standard for the portrait lens sold with m4/3-cameras. None of these problems are however huge issues.Compared to other brand flashes in the same class (nikon, canon etc) it's rather cheap, have the same performance and set of functions, which makes it a very valid choice no matter if you shoot it manually or in various automatic or TTL modes. However, if your plan is to use it in a wireless trigger setup the you might just as well save some money and buy used nikon flashes like SB-24/26/28 or new no-brand flashes as you anyway will want to invest in a radio based system sooner or later due to the limitations in light based trigger systems and once you use radio triggers you will be using the flash in manual mode thus negating the need for a flash that has the same TTL-system as your camera (which really is the only reason for why you need to buy a flash of the same brand as your camera).Read full review...

It's a great flash and I love using the Olympus system. Only drawback I have found is that the battery holder on the flash is slightly smaller than the maximum allowed diameter of an AA battery and consequently Maplins rechargable batteries will go in but are really difficult to get out again. Ordinary Duracel are fine. I haven't tried any other makes of rechargable battery.

Its fully integrated with the Olympus EM-1 - for iTTL and seems to recycle quite quickly - added a diffuser to avoid glare but seems the right choice for M4/3 cameras - but not tries the Metz equivalents.

Very Nice. Lightweight & handful gear gives you the proper light you need for a ballanced exposure.
