It’s great to have a 2D Mario scroller. I grew up with the NES classics and when the New Super Mario games released onto the DS and then Wii I really enjoyed what they did with it.As I refused to purchase a Wii-U I never got to play this version which is why I am glad they ported it to the switch for this reason. It’s worth pointing out that with the deluxe game you also get New Super Luigi U which is a much harder and challenging version of the Mario story line which mixes up the maps with more enemies and harder platforming along with the fact that Luigi handles like melted chocolate. Also you unlock a challenge mode consisting of time attacks, coin collection,1-up rally and some special levels which all provide the player with hard challenges to complete. The Mario game isn’t too difficult, there are sections that will test you however I managed to get my lives up to 99 pretty quickly and remain with that amount. The later Superstar Road is where the levels really step up in difficulty especially when trying to claim all 3 Star Coins. Speaking of star coins these can be a challenge to find in some levels especially the ghost mansions which have multiple exits. Not only this but there are secret levels to find which also can be difficult to locate and I wouldn’t have looked if it wasn’t for accidentally finding one and being shown the level in the menu system. Some issues I do have with the game come down to Nintendo tropes, I don’t understand why they kept the U in the title and added deluxe, I know it’s a Wii-U port but in honestly who wants to remember where it came from. Nintendo have a habit of explaining things to you constantly, other games will tell you something and then leave you too it but in this game every mushroom you visit you will still have to wait for instructions on how to play and then wait at the end while it tells you, you will be getting an item. This is not only subject to the mushrooms but when you die in a level you are booted out and have to re-enter which all takes time. Why the couldn’t have a try again screen is beyond me!The game itself took around 10 hours to complete and then a further 5-6 finding all the exits and star coins. I couldn’t stop playing it which is obviously a good sign, its what you come to expect from a Mario 2D platformer. Having said that the levels can be pretty samey, it doesn’t mix things up like Odyssey or the 3D Mario games which are head and shoulders better than this but that nostalgia and speed runs make this a fun to play game. Before I finish up I found the multiplayer pretty fun to play although it becomes frustrating really quickly (depending on who you play with) the camera follows the lead player so it’s easy to drop off the screen if you lag behind. You can get that sense of working as a team with the right players but it’s very easy to just go forward and make it difficult for everyone else. In multiplayer the bosses become really easy so if you do struggle on your own, great a trustworthy team.Personally though I prefer to play solo.

I love this game!!It's been on all weekend in my house and we're having great fun with it. I never owned a Wii U so for me and my family it's a whole new experience that we're really enjoying.I also appreciate the fact that there is a very easy mode- so my 4 year old can play this game without being killed by the enemies- ie- Goombas and Racoons and everything else- and he can enjoy it without getting too stressed out that he's being killed every few minutes. As it's not a 3D world like Odyssey he cant just run around the enemies- so the extra easy does really help.Although on extra easy you don't get the ability to glide like the other characters so getting the giant coins is damn nearimpossible if they are high up or hidden.I've not gotten very far in it- as every time i sit down with it my 4 year old wants a turn- so hopefully pretty soon I'll be able to have a long play without interuptions.Although it's a port of an old Wii U game- graphics are crystal clear and the game suffers no lags- it's pretty much flawless!

Being one of the few hardcore Nintendo fans who purchased the Wii U has been frustrating experience. The console, whilst being a commercial failure, had an epic library of top quality releases. Whilst the hugely successful Switch now has a stellar line-up of top quality games this is in no small thanks to the number of Wii U ports and re-releases. I have so far resisted the temptation to pay for the privilidge of playing the same game twice and have avoided purchasing re-releases on the Switch for that reason. However I did make an exception for this one. New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe is not in the top draw of Mario or even Wii U releases. It isn’t innovative or adventurous (check out Mario 3D world or Mario Odyssey if that’s what you’re after)but it is THE quintessential, solid, fun and fantastic 2D Mario platformer. It has taken everything that has made the gloriously retro New Super Mario series great and polished it to perfection. A solid addition to anyone’s Switch collection.

They say that video games don't cause violence but I can tell you after playing this I was inspired to train as a plumber and I now regularly jump out of first floor windows onto the heads of unsuspecting passers by before stealing their coins. Naughty Wario. If you played any of the old skool 2d Mario games you will be at home here. Great platforming fun for up too 4 players. Great family fun and no guns or swords or violence of any kind, unless you do count head jumping of course.I took off a star as I don't like that when playing 4 players someone has to be one of the easy characters ie peach or nabbit. Still good fun though and you also get super Luigi bros too,a whole other game little harder than super Mario but much the same stuff really. Can't go wrong with classic 2d Mario, great co op family fun

I cannot speak highly enough about this game. It is regularly reported to be the poor relation of Super Mario Odyssey, but certainly not in my opinion. I speak as someone in their mid-30s who grew up in the 16bit era where 2D platformers were common place. These are the games I loved and look back on with nostalgia. This game runs with that style and beautifully and takes it to the modern era. Graphics are sensational, music is the standard of awesomeness you expect from a Mario game and gameplay is smooth and fun. Anybody who enjoys that genre will adore this game. I have a permanent smile on my face every time I play it, even when I'm getting killed repeatedly! Buy it,you won't regret it.

Brilliant game - takes me right back to my early years when I was just getting into games consoles and how to use them.Bought my 4-year old a Nintendo Switch for Christmas, and have since struggled to know which games to get for him since his hand/eye coordination isn't great. Have noticed a marked improvement since Christmas, through the use of Mario Kart, Sonic and now this. He absolutely loves it, though as you work through the different levels the difficulty increases and he needs my help a little bit. I'm sure given a few more months he will be doing them all by himself. Would definitely recommend this game.

One of the best Switch games in my opinion. The graphics are great, the game runs smooth, I believe it is 60 fps and the colors are bright. The level design and music reminds me of the old days when I used to play New Super Mario Bros DS and that is why I give this game 5 stars. It truly is a successor to the DS game in my opinion. Plus there is a lot of extra content such as the coin rush and a whole lot of extra Luigi levels. You can also play with up to 4 players on the same screen so the game is fun to play with others. Truly a masterpiece. Well done Nintendo.

What a great start to 2019 on the Nintendo Switch! I’ve played Mario since the NES days (and still own my original NES and SNES consoles) and the side scrolling Mario games have always been my favourite. Super Mario Bros U Deluxe evokes that original Mario nostalgia whilst adding its own innovations and refinements. Excellent music, distinctive visuals and a varied range of game modes make this a must for every Switch owner. The addition of Super Luigi U is awesome too and essentially gives you two classic Mario games in one!

It’s a very good game. If you have played it before you know exactly what to do. The switch buttons are no different to a Nintendo Ds apart from the screen is bigger. If you’ve never played this before. Imagine Monopoly and tekken but with Mario and rather than passing go you try and save the princess. It’s fun for all the family for the kids who are just being introduced to it but also the adults that played it as kids.I bought it for my boyfriend for his birthday and we love it. ❤️

As a big fan of the original (the original original) and not playing any platform based Mario since Super Mario World (SNES) this was a must buy for the Switch. This version feels fresh, fun and engaging. If you're playing co-op then it can be frustrating, turning into comical, with the amount of times you jump on each others heads, pick up and throw each other off the world and for those moments of pure brilliance. 4 play co-op... is pure hilarity and can end up in carnage!

Super mario bros u deluxe for switch is the same game as the wiiu version but this time in handheld for when your out and about. The game contains several levels but also challenges that progressively gets harder and harder and ideal for challenging buddies at.Super mario bros u deluxe gameplay is what youd expect from a classic side scrolling mario game with several characters to choose from with slightly different pros to them and the graphics are clean and bright.

This is the same game that released on the Wii U with the addition of Toadette and Nabbit, making it even easier to play and finish Super Mario Bros, whatever your skill level. The game looks crisp on the built-in display and works just as well blown up on your TV, and the Switch's ability to pick up and go from TV to mobile and in standby is the perfect marriage for this title. If you have a Switch this is a must have title for fans of Mario and Bros.

Brilliant game! I love it! Classic Mario platform fun for everyone. Yes it’s (almost) the same game that was released on the Wii U, but it doesn’t claim not to be, and it’s had a few tweaks. In true Mario style it’s easily accessible, you can complete some levels quite easily, but my oh my are some of those All Star Coins frustrating. Perfect for gamers of all ages and abilities. Buy it, you’ll have hours of frantic, frustrating, frivolous, family fun.

I bought my girlfriend a Nintendo Switch for Christmas after she had been going on and on about how much she missed playing Mario from her teenage DS days, we pre-ordered this game as it was not out until after Christmas and she is over the moon with it! She hasn’t played Mario Bros since the DS lite days but said that this has made her nostalgic and absolutely loves it - will provide her with hours of fun whilst I watch football in peace!!!
