i recently had an "american sports craving" as ive not played on any of those sorts of game since perhaps the megadrive,so i got madden 09, nhl 09, nba2k9 and this, nba live 09.i must say, as with most EA sports titles, they get the "fit and finish" or "polish" pretty much spot on. very much like the broadcasts of the said sports, and all their titles have some amazing extras this season round, live news from espn, immense franchise/career modes, great looking individual players and stadiums etc.to be fair, ive had a love hate relationship with some of their "cash cow titles" such as the nascar series and FIFA, where i felt they missed the mark hugely over recent years, but i feel this time round they have really made some top titles, all round, there is definately more substance now to the games, and nba live also features the great "dynamic dna" feature. i think this is a masterstroke, and if youre not aware of this, it is basically a 365 days a year constant update of the games players, their stats etc, downloaded from their real life counterparts! and constantly evolving through the season. excellent idea if you ask me.one thing i will say tho, is that yes, the ea games have the decent game, and the fantastic polish, but the 2k games versions (mainly nba 2k9 as that is what i have) although dont have an as amazing front end and such like, do, i feel, get the "simlike" qualities and realism of the actual game on the court down to perfection near enough. dont let that dissuade you though as eas nba is very good. im lucky as i got them both, but i wouldnt like to recommend either over the other, just note, i play this more than 2k9.hope this has some useful info for some

Every year I buy both NBA Live and NBA 2K, for a few years now I believe 2K has been the far better game in terms of graphics and gameplay. Not anymore! The Dynamic DNA feature is amazing, the players really do follow their tendencies and it makes the game feel much more realistic.Taking free throws is sooo easy, i havent missed one yet and on the 2K series they can prove to be quite difficult and it feels like you are Shaq when at the line.Dynasty mode is much improved. You get points throught the year for winning games, getting on the all-star team etc and then you can upgrade your staff and eventually get them all to an A standard. They have also added a trading block which makes things easier and during draft night trades are made and this makes it feel much more realistic. The only flaw with the trades is that the cpu offers terrible trades, I just got offered as the Lakers: Andrew Bynum (85) Derrick Rose (90) for Shawn Marion (79) obviously a rediculous offer.Training your players is much better this year with the Academy set-up. You run various drills with different players each month in order to help them develop as a player and once again this makes the game feel like a real nba training session. There are also many more international teams which is a great addition, I love this because we can play as Great Britain (but the commentator says England for some reason). However in the GB squad we have John Amaechi on the team and he actually retired a few years back so that is a bit of a flaw.I could go on for ages about this game, it is by far the best in the Live series and in my opinion the best basketball game. 5/5 for gameplay and 5/5 for realism.

Got this game earlier today and have played it for approx 2 hours. The last few years have seen a bit of a slide in the 'fun' of basketball games but Live 09 marks a bit of a revival. There are plenty of credible competetors, (NBA 2K9, NBA 09) but after having tried demo's of the other developers take on the NBA franchise, i must recommend this game over the others.Presentation is amazing, and it's very easy to pick up. The NBA academy also allows you to hone your skills before turning the difficulty up. Franchise mode offers much more depth and the NBA 365 seems to be a great feature (yet to use it) updating rosters and players stats day by day, so if a rookie emerges over the next few months, his stats in the game will reflect this. You're game should be up to date right until Live 2010!Only one flaw, there is no Be a Pro career mode like NHL 09 offers. It would have been a great addition and added a touch more depth but hey, maybe next year.4/5

NBA Live 09 is by the best NBA Live game so far, it takes basketball simulation to the next level, there is a new downloadable content which keeps your rosters totally up to date with the actual NBA one. The game is smooth and plays so well, the likenesses and kits and courts are fantastic, its the total package! if you like NBA games you'll love this!

The commentary is spot on and the action in-game runs smoothly. The dunks look great and the famous players are all recognisable. All in all a great basketball game!
