The majority of the bad reviews for this game are for the Nintendo Switch version which, I can confirm as I have it also, leaves a lot to be desired, especially graphically. This however is a review of the PS4 version which is very similar to the original PC release. This game is ace. I love it. In fact I love it so much I bought it for the Switch too (still playable on Switch but as mentioned in other reviews has very muddy and blurry textures, particularly in handheld mode). If you're a fan of stealthy, tactical games, this is for you. The combat style of X-Com mixed with the exploration of Shadow Tactics. I really became invested in the story and wanted to know a lot more about the lore of this game. The characters are so well written and acted. The RPG elements are great too. Different weapons, weapon mods and headwear are all there to be discovered/earned. This deluxe version also comes with the recently released 'Seeds Of Evil' expansion which should add at least another 6 or 7 hours to the main campaign. To summarise then, if you like X-Com style games with quirky characters (a talking duck called Dux, a half man half boar named Bormin and a cockney fox that goes by the name of Farrow to name but three) then Mutant Year Zero will be right up your street. 5*

Most of the reviews on Amazon for Mutant Year Zero relate to the Switch version which gives a false impression of the PS4 game.Mutant Year Zero is an XCOM style turn based tactical strategy game which sees you and a couple of other characters exploring through some superbly well drawn maps as you complete various quests. The view is a top-down 3D affair but the attention to detail in both the characters and the environments is excellent. You swap between characters in turn as you tackle enemies, using their individual skills, weapons and abilities to best advantage to overcome the odds, taking advantage of stealth to reach cover and the perfect ambush position. The game is challenging but not unfair. The ability to save at any time in the game ensures that you don't have to replay lots of the game to get back to where you began a fight should you happen to die or make a mess of your strategy. There is a huge amount of upgrades and lot to be found throughout your travels and I found the whole experience a hugely enjoyable one. An excellent game which in my view, is at least a good as XCOM if not better.

I felt compelled to leave a review, mostly because of all the negative reviews. Let me clear things up. It's correct, the background graphics get blurry when you play in handheld mode. By no means is it unplayable, it's just a bit blurrier. I can see why that bothers some people. In docked mode the graphics are sharp and very atmospheric. It's not true at all that they stay blurry in docked mode. Now why do I put up with the blurrier graphics in portable mode? ... Well... because it's ... PORTABLE. This is a AAA game and I'm feeling lucky that I have the opportunity to carry such an awesome game in my pocket and I don't have to haul around an Alienware laptop! And truthfully, the game is very playable, even when SOME of the graphics on screen on portable mode are blurried. What you really need to see is fine! 10/10 very happy with the purchase!

Had to write a quick review, as people are slating it here purely because of graphics?!To start these people are comparing affectively a handheld (Switch) with max 13 watt of draw, vs PS4 graphics with 250-300 watt draw. Of course the graphics on the Switch won't be as good, but the gameplay is excellent, in fact due to the ability to setup your positions before engaging I think this might be more fun than X-Com. Only just been playing it, so not sure if it's shorter, but so far I'm loving it.Just hope all the negative press from graphic muppets won't stop them releasing any sequels on the Switch.

This is a great turn based games just like xcom but you can run around and ambush the enemy and then puts you into battle giving you the chance to set up. I've played over 10 hours of the game so far and the graphics are really good on the ps4 but the 1* reviews are for the switch version with lower quality graphics. There is lots of game play value and customisation of weapons and things to find upgrading your armour, health, accuracy and range. Defo a good buy if you like turn based combat and also the charachters do argue with each other which us quiet amusing

TRICKEY ,AS LONG AS NOT SEEN YOU CAN MOVE FREELY ,COLLECTING STUFF FOR SALE OR USE,TURN BASED COMBAT ,SO MAKE SURE YOU SCOUT AND THEN EQUIP YOUR TEAM FOR MAX RESULTS AS SOME WEAPONS DO MORE DAMAGE ON CERTAIN TYPES AS CERTAIN ARMOUR DEFENDS FROM FIRE OR CHARGE ATTACKS. HUMOR IS A NICE TOUCH
