Good games have come out recently. Mad Max, MGSV despite its controversy and now this. I understand I’m putting some big weight on its shoulders but Telltale Games has produced a marvellous and charming adventure full of gimmicks and laughs. The game draws you into a wondrous and compelling adventure through the Minecraft universe with all the charm we expect from a game of blocks. The story is worth not ruining so I will refrain from such. You play as Jesse (voiced by Patton Oswald,) an average citizen of the land who lives with his friends Olivia, the smart one, Axel, the loyal meathead and his trusty pet pig Reuben. As a team they hope to become the champion builders at Endercon to meet their hero,a member of the Order of the Stone. The story goes for a Lord of the Ring’s stylising; your heroes are thrown into cataclysmic events and must work together to save the world from a great evil. The story is built to appeal to a large audience. From the avid Minecraft player to those who have never touched the game. Some understanding of the game is recommended, as you will miss several in-jokes such as the likeness of Diamonds and Lapis Lazuli. The game does fill in the blanks where it is required such as when crafting items, the recipes are available in the corner just in case. Age-wise the game also aims to keep open for the younger audience (despite common use of the word ‘crap’) and rather than in Telltale’s more mature episodic adventures the game will foreshadow or even outright state upcoming story events. Yet even as a 22 year old man the story is not so dumbed-down you won’t enjoy it yet you may be able to pick out the event turns before they appear. The game feels incredibly like Minecraft, and rightly so. Textures have been brought over outright and the world looks correct to the eye, even with underused aspects like explosions the blocks move like they should do in Minecraft. While there has to be some changes, mostly to the character animations, these are all the keep the flow of the story and don’t draw away break the immersion into the world. The visuals in the game are wholly stunning which becomes most noticeable when the game steps back and lets you see the grand structures around you. No doubt these will soon be recreated in Minecraft for people to explore. The audio is also worthy of serious note. The background soundtrack ebbs and flows maintaining Minecraft’s idea of the music being supplementary. Yet in the dramatic sequences the music booms out making all of the emotions for the necessary moment gestalt. This is helped by the stellar voice cast. Patton Oswald has been previously mentioned as the male protagonist Jesse; he is joined by Ashley Johnson as the rugged adventurer Petra and Brian Posehn as Axel. Paul Reubens also arrives as the primary antagonist Ivor and delivering a performance worthy of any childhood villain. There are some frustrations to the game. The combat is slightly sluggish and you can spend a lot of your time swinging wildly against multiple enemies. There are also some visual glitches. Though they only happened once and are likely to be patched out quickly.Even though the first episode is not long, around two hours, I just can’t stop thinking about how good it is. Telltale has done a phenomenal job of drawing you in to the people around you. You spend a long period of time just chatting to your friends and getting to know them. Every little joke or comedic moment in the game feels so thought out. From the starting conversation and montage all the way to the end where the game circles back round to your starting character nicely. The adventures reminds you that a game first released in alpha in 2009 can still look so beautiful no matter how big the pixels are.Unsuprisingly this game gets a 5.0. If it could get higher it would. Story mode draws Telltale conventions so perfectly into Minecraft. There isn’t much deviation from the formula here; if you’ve played Telltale before the underlying gameplay is the same. Yet something about this one feel so much more alive than the others. I want more of this game. Now.

Bought this on the download on the Xbox 360 paid £5.99 for the first episode so £23.99 this is good value for all five episodes. Please note however that the disk itself only contains the first episode but it does have a code to download the remaining four episodes as they become available. You play the game as Jesse, who along with a couple of friends wants to take part in a Minecraft building competition. You basically watch the game and then at certain points get a choice of three or four possible answers to a question. Your answer to the question are apparently remembered and therefore can influence the rest of the game, however I haven't actually seen where this influence happens. We were initially thrown by the fact that the game doesn't have a save button. We later found out that the safe takes place after each battle, so if you do not get as far as a battle you have to resit through the entire game again. Frustrating.Personally if it was me rating I would give it three stars; not great deal happens, you don't influencing terribly much and you can only pick from standard answers. However the 10 year old thinks it's amazing and thinks it deserves five stars. Therefore I've comprised in the middle with a four star review :)There was no bad language that I noticed. There is one or two mildly scary scenes. Involving creepers and the like although they are probably nothing that your committed Minecraft player hasn't seen before.I will be very interested to see what episode 2 to 5 turn out to be.

Another brilliant game from Telltale. Minecraft Story Mode The Complete Adventure contains all 8 episodes on the disc, this is not one of those season pass discs where you get the first episode then the rest are downloads, everything is on the disc.So if you are new to this style of game they are episodic adventure games focusing mainly on story rather than gameplay, it's basically like an interactive TV show, you make decisions throughout the game that affect the characters and certain points in the storyline, you do this by choosing from a selection of dialog options that appear on screen during conversations with other characters. There are also action sequences where you press the button prompts that appear on the screen to take your character through the scene.Like other Telltale games the story is engrossing, well written and packed full of interesting characters, it's really funny and really sad at times and there are some awesome action sequences. Its also worth mentioning that as this is set in the Minecraft universe it's very child friendly, there is no swearing, gory violence or adult themes.I loved the game and have no problem recommending it.

Good game for my nephew to play that I bought on his 9th birthday that is only a few losing interest in the Lego games and being a big Minecraft fan that is age appropriate for him to play. Pretty limited in replay value that there is a few alternative decision you can choose where you have different gameplay segments but for the price £15 it is well worth the value.Only one minor gripe is that the main menu music and episode select seems to disappear when you exit and enter again twice although the music and in the actual episodes work fine. Contacted TellTale games and they said it might have been a bad download that I downloaded the patch and episodes via wifi and if I delete and installthe game again and download the patch and episodes preferably again using LAN connection the issue should be resolved. Tried again using Wifi as I did not have LAN access and the same issue persists. Not a major issue that the game works fine but it is a bit of an annoyance.

Half of the game is a massive cutscene which will allow you to say things and make choices which will affect the story later on (and plenty of quick-time events), the other half is 2D interactions and combat. When playing the main game you will get to interact with certain things around you, talk to members of your party and solve puzzles. The only problems I have with the game are: the combat (only against zombies and ghasts in the first two episodes), which is hard to get used to and barely allows you any freedom, letting you choose between 3 enemies to attack, and how long it takes for each episode to be released (as they are short).

My son loves everything Minecraft and I warned him that this was a classic Telltale Game and that he wouldn't be walking around much as their games are more multiple choice. Anyway he still wanted it, then became a little frustrated at all the "watching" even though it is more interactive than most of their other games. He has only completed the first chapter and now refuses to play anymore as he noted that there was very mild profanity, and when he realised he wasn't quite the guideline age he has put it away until he's old enough. It's quite an enjoyable game from what I've seen, but it's nothing like Minecraft apart from the look.

Bought this for my son and he's enjoyed it so far.Lost of the pre Xmas reviews talk about problems downloading the episodes? We had no problems with Episode 1-4, even though he'd previously bought episode 1 as a separate digital download, so it looks like those problems have been patched now. And of course Episode 5 has not been released yet.The game itself is in the choice/quicktime style of all the previous TellTale games (Walking Dead, Wolf, Borderlands .....), so no surprises there and its a simple enough format for any age to play (provided they are old enough to read the choices given).

Do not expect a new Minecraft game with a story thrown in to an open world, This is a Telltales game like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us series, this release is a bit strange one as its just a physical copy of a Season Pass and not the entire season on disc so you will have to wait for the rest of the episodes to be downloaded, but this is a decent game, if you are a fan of the Telltales games give this a go. this is more suitable for all ages to enjoy than any other TT game. But just be warned this isn't the entire season on disc before buying.

My sons have really enjoyed this game....we had to set up accounts for them which was a bit of a phaf, but you DO NOT need to pay for the account as other reviews have said. However, once you've had your free downloads of episodes 2-5 you are expected to pay £5.19 for episode 6. I'm trying to find out if that single payment gives you episodes 6-8. Will update when i find out. Some reviewers are saying the game is very short... I'm guessing they need to pay a a bit more notice and go download the next episode!!

Granted we only have a Xbox 360 with no hard disk. But even the chapter on the disk itself stutters terribly, enough that the ten year old Minecraft fanatic has only played with it once since Christmas. Two stars in case it will buffer better when I shell out for a hard disk.UPDATE AFTER PURCHASING A HARD DISK: Story mode works much better now we have paid about £15 for a hard disk. Increased rating from two to four stars because the boy is really enjoying the game; still expensive for what it is though.

Bought for my son as a birthday present. I bought the season pass edition on the belief that the entire game would be available. I know the extra episodes are via download so wasn't expecting them on the disc. However, episodes 6 and later are not included in the season pass and an additional pass is needed for another £15 to complete the game. I felt that this was not clear at the time of purchase and might have altered my decision to buy this for him

The family and I love this story mode. Young Kids struggle with the timed questions, but love exploring something new to do with minecraft. It's engaging and makes you think how you want to act because it affects all you do and future parts of the game. Definitely recommended family game or solo. Good for when you don't want anything too taxing and want to lose yourself in something Simple. 8/10Read full review...

Minecraft story mode is a lot more than what is in the name. Your decisions effect the future and will change who you spend your journey withAnd who survivesA lot of effort with animation was put into this as walking freestyle has leg and arm movement which bends other than the original game where you walk about like you are frozen stiffOver all a lot of effort was put into it and definitely worth the money

I looked everywhere online for this game, and although I found it in many places, none of these places had it this cheap, and could deliver the next day!! I ordered it late on Friday night and it came as we were leaving to go to the a childs birthday and I had bought the game for the child. It was brand new and unopened and his face lit up when he saw what it was. Excellent bargain and fantastic service!!!
