More brilliant block-smashing action from Travellers' Tales this time with the dark knight. What works well about this game is that in avoiding a movie tie-in and sticking to the source material they have created varied, colourful, imaginative levels and stories. They've also made an excellent technical job with the 3d graphics on the DS.With three stories split into 5 chapters each, hero and villain sides of the plot and the elements opened up by character freeplay there is a huge amount of content. What doesn't work so well is the pairing of Batman and Robin for this game. In spite of additional gadgets the duo's abilities remain fairly static. This means that the majority of the action revolves around: Batman goes somewhere Robin can't,flicks a switch or constructs an object that allows Robin to catch up. Then the same happens with Robin taking the lead. The "Rooftops" level lays very bare how formulaic the level construction truly is.What also doesn't work is that the game appears to be a victim of inflation. For the amount of studs collected the unlockables in the shop are remarkably expensive. There is a workaround in the hub which allows for large amounts of money to be generated, but this quickly becomes repetitive. In short, for those who like to unlock everything you are going to find yourself replaying levels a great deal.In addition to this the levels can be quite long (30+ mins) and with no in-game save this can be a tricky pick up and play. The vehicle levels are also very bad with almost no redeeming features. All that said, though this is still a great fun game to play and a real treasure trove for Batman fans.

“Lego Batman: The Videogame” is an action adventure game, released in 2008. You get to play as Batman, set within a fictional Lego world. This game is similar to the earlier Lego videogames, such as Star Wars. Yet, this game is the first in the Lego series to have an original story. This game was highly successful, and so far there have been two sequels – and several animated Lego movies – based on Batman. This game is intended to be child-friendly, and yet is also a great deal of fun for adults. You can choose to play as one of many characters – all from the Batman universe – and control each character from a third-person perspective. Primarily, you’re running around and fighting enemies. There are also lots of puzzles to solve. The game is set in Gotham City, and there are thirty levels (15 for the heroes, 15 for the villains). The story concerns Batman and Robin trying to find and capture the villains – Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, and so many more – who have recently escaped from Arkham Asylum, and who are intent on causing mischievous mayhem. In addition to story mode, you can choose to ‘free play’ the game – simply having fun with the characters. The graphics are great – and it does look just like Lego has come to life! The soundtrack is fantastic – as it makes use of Danny Elfman’s music from the 1989 “Batman” film. Overall, there’s a dark feel to this game, but it’s done in a comedic and entertaining manner. If you’re a fan of either Batman and/or Lego games, I thoroughly recommend this. I’ve played through it a couple of times, as have my young nephews – and there’s plenty of fun to be had.

This is a fabulous game, with so many detailed and challenging levels to be played as any of your favourite Batman heroes or villains- each character has their unique abilities and different elements of each level correspond with these abilities. As a twenty year old student who plays this with his 8year old cousin, I feel that this game would be fantastic at encouraging cooperation in children,as many elements of the gain require the actions of two characters, although, if playing alone, the computer will do this automatically. This game also has some excellent female characters, with Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, 2 Catwoman variations, the only slight feminist gripe being that Ivy and Catwoman often have to charm and flirt with lego men to get contribute to the levels and Ivy can kill with her kiss- although, as this was a characteristic of Ivy's in the movies and comics, I suppose it can be forgiven. The game is basically gore free, unless you count the disassembling lego guys who die in battle, but it's hardly traumatising stuff in my view- I guess it would depend on your gaming violence threshold, but any violence is very cartoonish. The Joker, Bane and Ivy all come across as loveable rouges rather than sociopathic monsters or disturbed people, so I guess this is more of a 90's movie or even 60's tv sort of Batman- Nolan fans may be a bit miffed, but they have their more hardcore games, so this is a kind of comical intro to batman and i believe there is a place for that.

Bought this to play with my 4.5 year old. He absolutely loves it and I'm having almost as much fun sharing in it with him as he is playing it (although he doesn't stop talking about it and wanting to play which is getting a little bit tiring. So we have to have very strict limits set with it - the egg timer is being put to good use).......I'm not sure how far he'd get with it on his own although he's quite happy being left to wander around the various scenes in Freeplay mode, but in 2 player mode we're making good progress together and I'm startled anew each time at his level of dexterity with the wiimote and nunchuck. The levels and characters are varied and suitably challenging (but not overlydifficult so that it becomes frustrating).Highly recommended.

Got this for my six-year-old who hasn't been able to put it down. We haven't had any of the Lego games before and it does assume you know a bit about the format, but we soon worked it out. The game is lots of fun with loads of levels and lost of incentives to play over again and again - you have to uncover hidden objects that unlock new areas or open minigames. Nothing is too challenging so you don't end up leaving the game mid-level because of an impossible jump or a locked door etc. My son has had weeks worth of play out of the game and isn't sick of it yet, so it was well-worth the money. Only downsides are you do seem to spend half your time running around the Batcave picking up studs andyou can't save mid-level which is a major pain.

A fantastic game. I tried the Star Wars lego game and was advised to buy the Bat Man game next. Glad I did as it's fantantastic and so much fun. Not only do you have the Hero levels but also the Villain levels as well so twice the fun. Then there are the Minigames which I haven't tried yet as I assume you have to complete all the levels first - can't wait to try them all as have just played a couple up to now and they're fun.Would recommend this game to anyone who loves puzzling out what and where to go next - keeps you entertained for hours and hours. Had the game over a month now and still not completed it properly yet as still so many things to find.I would easily rate this item as a five star.Would give it more if I could!

Excellent game, hours of fun!All wii players appreciates this games!from uk.ign.com:"LEGO Batman is unique from past titles in the building blocks' franchise. The story isn't based off a movie or even a comic-book plot. This is an original tale. That gives Traveller's Tales some latitude, since there's no need to follow a well-known plot. There isn't even a direct tie-in to a particular Batman universe. This isn't Batman of movie fame, the campy TV show or the comics. It's Batman from the toy shelves, which means a sort of hodgepodge of ideas and a myriad of costumes meant to sell extra action figures. It translates well into LEGO, though I wonder if the original four movies wouldn't have made for better source material."

Lego Batman is a fun game for all ages.Lego takes the Batman films and makes them into there very own funny story which follows the real story line in the films. You get to build, drive, swing and fight your way round Gotham City. There are also unique super hero suits which give your player a unique power.Lego Batman also allows you to drive the Batmobile and use the Batwing in some levels.I love braking things apart and then finding new bits to rebuild to explore more of the levels and find hidden items.Loads of fun playing 2 player although not split screen as the newer Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, still every Lego game in the series i feel are worth buying as they are hours of great fun.tifas-buyandsell

I love this game, my boys have it on the Xbox 360 and it looks amazing but even on the scaled down PSP screen it is still stunning. They got me the PSP version for my birthday after getting me the Lego Indiana Jones for Christmas. Although I agree with some other reviews that it is not as good as the Indiana Jones one it is very close with lots of gags and the brilliant Lego humour that makes it un-put-downable. Any BatFan will love it and replay value is amazing as you have the now standard freeplay for all completed levels plus the ability to play as the villians trying to defeat Batman and Robin. This is a must have for anyones (old or young) PSP collection,I just can't recomend it enough.

I wasn't sure what to expect from lego batman as I'm not a fan of the films, but I gave it a try anyway as I previously purchased lego Indiana Jones and loved it. I was pleasently surprised with lego batman. It's fun and for the DS it has good graphics. There are 30 levels to play and you can blay as the hero and save gotham streets or you can play as the villan and make mischief along the way. There are plenty of characters to earn and buy and special powerups can also be unlocked and purchased with your studs. Not only would this provide hours of entertainment (I have found myself addicted to lego batman) but it is a welcome addition to the lego series.

I have bought all of the Lego games, mainly on PC but now on the DS as well. You really cannot go wrong with the Lego games (except possibly Lego Star Wars on Wii disappointing because they didn't take proper advantage of the Wii remote for Light Sabre movement). My son, age 8, loves them all and I do too. In the Lego games you don't die you lose some points which does not detract from the enjoyment or cause frustration. Multi-player mode makes for a good co-op experience and stops gaming being an isolating experience. Seriously, if you own a DS you've got to have at least a couple of Lego games. Lego Indianna Jones I would suggest as well.

I bought my 6 year old son a DS for Christmas and decided to buy him Lego Batman as he particularly enjoyed playing this game on his PS2.I was a bit worried that the graphics and playability of the game would be poor on the DS as the PS2 version was so good and I was relieved to find that wasn't the case.Because the game plays differently on the DS my son was able to enjoy playing it all over again and I was very surprised how good the graphics and gameplay were. Indeed I would say that some parts of the gameplay are even more enjoyable than on the PS2 version. This is a great game for the DS and you will not be disappointed with it.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, I prefer games such as Spyro the Dragon, and Crazy Taxi, and I personally loved this game. With the replayability of having 2 different sides to the game (villain and hero), and a few mini games, you can play this game again and again.Admittedly this game isn't perfect. Some of the tasks can get a bit repetitive, and it doesn't have the movies as much as the wii version; but it does have comic book esque freeze frames, and a lot of humour, and in addition to this the characters have a strong sense of likeability (yes, even the villains).

20.7.2011

I bought this game as my oldest boy loves his lego and loves Batman so a combo of the 2 is just the ticket. Game is excellent and has lots of things to do only small negative from a young persons point of view it you have to do things to move onto the next levels atc so if you miss something it can be annoying especially for younger kids but that's when I get a shot so isn't really a negative from my point of view!!This is the first Lego game I have bought but would def buy more as they really are so much fun!!!!
