A difficult game to really get into and you won't ever get in to it if you're not the type for immersion in videogames.Personally when I play a videogame I'm looking for an experience. Sure games should be fun, but they should also be rewarding and meaningful. While this certainly isn't the most original game in the world, it is a very well made piece of software and Ubisoft really hit the jackpot with this one.Graphics - This game really pushes the hardware of the 360/PS3 to as far as I've seen it be pushed. The only games you'll find on a console that outdo this game would be Killzone 2 and Gears of War 2. There is a deciding factor between these three though that places Far cry 2 firmly in first place = setting.Don't expect the cramped corridors and small-scale battlefields of Killzone 2 or the underground mazes of Gears of War2; Far cry 2 is entirely open. If you can see it you can go there, there are obvious boundaries like leaving the actual game world but why would you want to do that? There are also very few loading screens because the game is streamed as you play!Gameplay - I find this to be one of the most immersive and satisfying games for a reason. It feels like you're in Africa and the sense of realism is sometimes stunning (sometimes unfortunate). Cars handle realistically, don't explode from being shot lots in places where there isn't fuel, and will start to perform worse dependant on their state of disrepair. The latter applies to weapons as well, get yourself a lovely new AK-47 and within' a few hours real time (a day or so game time) of intense fighting you'll need a replacement weapon. Fail to replace your damaged AK and you'll be prone to your weapon jamming mid-fire. When this happens you'll need to button bash X or Square to force the casing from the chamber and allow you to continue fighting. This is a really nice touch and can land you in some tough but exciting situations. The buddy system is also an aspect of the game I really enjoy. Make a friend of a fellow mercenary and they will help you with alternate ways to complete missions and even come to your rescue when things take a turn for the worst(you get shot). This is extremely useful as it is like a get out of death free card when you can't handle the odds. However, your buddy may become injured and possibly even get himself killed in saving you. I found these scenes to be strangely immersive. Sure I got emotional when Aeris died in FFVII, anyone with a soul did, but that's because we'd gotten to know her. We'd watched as her and Clouds relationship had sprouted and become more real. These buddies however, share very little of their lives with the player and this is why it amazes me I give a damn when one of them pops his clogs coming to my rescue. I could chew over this subject, but I'll just leave it and be glad and impressed that it does. It really is awesome.Story - I found it difficult to keep track of the story some of the time. It's waaaaay too easy to just get caught up running/driving around having fun in Africa, sometimes I honestly forgot what I was doing there. Although, in all of the loading screens there are reminders, which helped me to keep tabs on my reasoning behind wrecking half of this small African country. You are inserted into Africa to find and assassinate an arms dealer called The Jackal, who is supplying weapons to both sides of a civil war. Nice guy. Unfortunately upon arrival, your character (whichever you choose) catches Malaria (nasty) and that is all the story I will write down here!Features - It has a map maker that really is fantastic. Making a map and publishing it is probably the easiest thing to do in this game, and there's an achievement or 2 as reward for doing so!Overall, this is really a FANTASTIC game and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves immersion and realism!I gave this a well deserved 9 out of 10!

The first thing to say about Far Cry 2 is that it looks fabulous. The graphics are hugely detailed and the lighting effects glorious. As you explore the vast, go-anywhere playing area, you'll see more than your fair share of beautiful sunsets, lush jungles and rock formations. The sound is special too, with a constant African-themed soundtrack that increases in tempo at times of urgency, plus a variety of animal sounds that vary depending on the time of day. It's also worth mentioning that this is not a game for those who want constant, quickfire action. It's more of an absorbing slow burn interspersed with violent thrills. You play the part of a mercenary, plying his trade in a small Afican state.Your ultimate goal is to kill an arms dealer called The Jackal, but along the way you must take on jobs for the two factions fighting for control of the country. These normally involve shooting people or blowing stuff up in exchange for diamonds, which you can use to buy weapons and upgrades. There are endless side-missions offered to you by gun-sellers and fellow mercenaries. They don't move the story forward, but they bring their own rewards, such as the ability to buy new weapons. Your fellow mercenaries can also peform 'buddy rescues' if you are gunned down, which effectively gives you a second life.Initially, getting around the map is a hoot. There are a variety of jeeps and boats at your disposal, meaning you never have to walk very far. Many reviews I read prior to playing the game mentioned how tedious travelling about the map could be, and initially I couldn't understand what they meant. After a while, however, it begins to grate. The roads are littered with enemy checkpoints, meaning you keep getting side-tracked by pointless firefights that eat up health and ammunition. It's quite fun to start with, but as the game progresses, you wish you could somehow skip across the map to where you need to go. Fortunately, there are bus stops on the map, which enable you to do precisely this, but there are only five of them, so there is always a fair bit of driving to do at either end.Game-saves are only available at certain points - primarily in safe houses, which you must first unlock by killing the soldiers that guard them. As you complete missions and increase your reputation, more treats are made available at the safe houses, such as ammunition and health. You save your game by taking a nap, which also allows you to move the time forward, which is useful if you want to undertake a raid in darkness, or if (like me) you prefer to play the game in bright sunshine.Saves can also be made at the gun shops, where you buy weapons and restock on ammo. Once a weapon has been purchased in the shop, an infinite supply of them is made available in the store room next door. This is a good thing, as guns become unreliable over time and begin to jam. You can pick up weapons dropped by dead soldiers, too, but they are hopelessly unreliable, so it's best to stick to guns you buy yourself.Enemy AI is so-so, but there are a few irritating problems. Stealth attacks are difficult as enemy soldiers seem to have perfect night vision. They also have deadly accurate aim at great distance. When driving, your vehicle acts like a bullet magnet, which means it's hard to zoom through an enemy checkpoint without them bringing you to a standstill and engaging you in a tiresome firefight that has nothing to do with the mission you're on. Compared to other FPS games, movement and gunplay feel a bit awkward, opting for realism over playability. These are small issues though, and ones you learn to live with. On the whole, the game is absorbing, atmsopheric, long-lasting and hugely enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Well this is overall a pretty good game, but has a few nagging flaws. The Plusses:1. Graphics are fantastic2. There is a great selection of weapons, which are upgradable.3. There is an open sandbox style of play, you get various missions and sidequests, but these can be done in a variety of ways.4. Weapons degrade, which makes purchasing new ones a sought after incentive. Plus also allows use of some 2nd hand guns that you wont unlock till later at the arms dealers. It makes refreshing change to include this variable.5. AI is fairly good. Guys will sneak up on you, flank you and shout for help6. The missions can be quite interesting, though more so from chapter 2 onwards.7. I liked the graphical healing. No just walking over a medpack. Stopping to prise bullets from my leg with pliers in the middle of a firefight was much more gritty. The minuses:1. When travelling, you constantly get attacked by enemy vehicles and have to deal with roadblocks. You have to fight your way to locations, which at first is ok, but soon gets repetitive. You have to rinse and repeat these fights to get anywhere, but especially by road.2. Pretty much everyone is your enemy. Both the two factions soldiers will shoot you on sight, as your missions for them are considered secret. It would have been better to have more factions and a friendly status score (As used in mercenaries 2) to dictate how they react to you.3. The story is pretty weak. You are sent to kill the Jackal arms dealer, who is perpetuating the war. However, he spares your life several times, and it seems hard to criticise his warmongering, when you are blasting your way through thousands of goons constantly. Any sane man would have got out of the country with a haul of diamonds, rather than stay, spending them on more guns.4. The missions in chapter 1 aren't as interesting as the ones from Chapter 2 onwards. I nearly gave up on the game initially, as it was repetative. However, the gameplay got much more interesting from Chapter 2 onwards, with missions including defending a barge, a prison break and dropping a bomb from a bridge onto a boat underneath. Also by this time, I had access to much more interesting weapons and gear.5. There are only a couple of silenced guns in the game. It would have been nicer to have silencer upgrades (Maybe at the cost of fire rate or range) on more weapons (A silenced sniper rifle was sorely missing, the dart rifle came close but was very slow).6. It would have been nice to have upgraded one off weapons that you could pick up from the dead bosses and top targets. These could have been new models not available in the arms shop. Or existing ones with better accuracy, rate of fire, capacity or decoration than the normal models. This would have given an added incentive to some missions and sidequests. Maybe they could have also had some hidden around like Easter Eggs in the game, a bit like some weapons in Fallout 3.7. The malaria factor was pretty annoying. It went against the sandbox idea, as you had little choice than have to hunt down more medicine. One mission included blowing up kilns for a malaria vaccine. This seemed crazy, that you wouldn't get the vaccine first before blowing them. This conflicted with the malaria idea totally. All in all a good game, worth sticking with to get past dull Chapter 1The great graphics, weapon choice and durability, and sandbox enviroment make it a great gameplay experience, that moves away from most on the rails fps's around. I predict if certain flaws are sorted out, then the next game Farcry 3 will be a gaming classic.

I bought this game on a whim, as I had seen some decent adverts for it and liked the look of a FPS set in Africa. At first, I hated this game! I wasn't too keen on the aiming, and it seemed like the bad guys always knew where you were and that they were invisible. I sacked it off for a while and then came back to it a few months later and got really into it.To enjoy this game, you really need to approach each combat situation with a strategy. It's not the kind of game where you just wade in lobbing grenades and blasting everyone in site - it requires a bit of finesse. If you're prepared to be patient and clever, then you'll be rewarded with an awesome immersive action shooter that will last you many hours.Far Cry 2 is not for ADHD afflicted casual gamers. There are some flaws:1. Enemies respawn in the same places whenever you back track through an area that you previously encountered. This can get a bit annoying when you have a few journeys to make.2. Everyone wants to kill you! There are no neutrals or civilians in this game. Everywhere you go you'll be shot at.3. The wildlife in the game are very fragile. A zebra walked into my parked car and just keeled over! Strange, but quite amusing in all fairness.4. The glider is useless. Don't bother trying to use it. Enemies spot you a mile off and a few shots bring it down. Totally wasted concept. But the benefits are plenty:1. Graphically impressive - the African plains, deserts, and jungles are all very convincing. The weather and day/night usage is very cool and can be used to your advantage in combat.2. The variety of weapons is impressive. You can really tailor your arsenal to suit your combat style. Each weapon is upgradable too.3. Longevity - this game is huge and will keep you busy for many hours. The vastness of the environment means that there are many hidden things to find and unusual spots in the environment that come in handy when you're planning an ambush.4. Buddy system - this can be very useful, but also a bit annoying at times. If you get too badly injured in a firefight, your buddy will show up and rescue you and help out a bit in combat. This is really useful if you're doing really well on a mission and offers you a second chance to complete it. The downside is that some of your buddy missions can end in their death, and it's sometimes too much hassle completing them only to result in having to put your buddy out of his or her misery...but I guess that's war for you.5. Fire effects - the way fire spreads and consumes in this game is awesome! If you're clever, you can turn an enemy outpost into a raging inferno in seconds and get the enemies believing that they're under attack by a whole army. Very cool!6. First aid scenes - I thought these were wicked! Some people hate them, but I found they added to the realism of the game. When your health is critically low, you have to find somewhere safe to perform a short first aid treatment. This can be anything from removing shrapnel from your arm, or putting out a flaming limb. A nice feature IMO.Overall, you'll either love this game or hate it - there's not much middle ground. I can see the reasons why some people gave this game negative reviews, but I think that this game is definitely worth working with to get a whole lot of enjoyment out of. If you can rent or borrow this game first, give it a try - you might just be impressed.

With FPS's being a dime a dozen these days, its nice when a game comes up with a little originality, and Far Cry 2 adds a new depth to an already overcrowded market of FPS. The catch is not a straight up, linear progression shooter, but a large, open ended environment that you have to navigate accordingly and quite often strategically.I'll cut to the chase, Far Cry 2 is a tale of vicious mercenaries and brutal faction regimes fighting for control in a strangley beautiful un-named African country. All you know is that your target is a gentleman who goes by the name of 'The Jackal', and your sole purpose in this hellhole is to eliminate him.Your new in town and its within your best interests to capitalize on some dirty handed job opportunities, this is where Far Cry 2 really shines!GRAPHICS-The games 50 square kilometres are full to the brim with sweeping deserts, rickety shanty towns, bustling wildlife and beautiful sunrise/sunsets. Its impressive how Ubisoft managed to capture the realism of the African enviroment, to such a high detail is amazing. The sun rises on a new day with rays breaking through the trees incredibly realistically and the sunsets are even more breath-taking. The wildlife, the fauna and all the bells and whistles are all here in glorious HD.The weapons animate very convincingly and even wear down and jam, sometimes breaking apart in your mitts if overused! Superb detail! In short, this game looks fantastic on my 32" HDTV!OVERALL 9.7/10GAMEPLAY-Far Cry 2 plays as a finely tuned FPS should play. Smooth controls, nice mechanics and responsive gunplay. A lot of the time will be spent walking/driving/swimming/boating or even gliding your way through or over the lush environment. Enemies are smart and often during a firefight, they can be heard communicating, talking about flanking, or asking which direction you were last spotted in! It all adds realism and a sense of urgency as you hide in a hut, life bar on red, AK-47 jammed as you frantically tap square to unjam.Bullets need some nifty self surgery if your health bar depletes too quick and you'll often find yourself cringing at the screen as you pop another bullet out thats lodged in your arm!You can enlist the help of Buddies after saving them from a not-so-pleasant situation. They'll come to your aid if your taking too much heat and if their injured, do you risk your life to save theirs? Or do you pull your pistol out and end their suffering??OVERALL 10/10SOUND-Absolutely spot-on. Creeping through the tall grasses, wild animals can be heard calling out. In the middle of a vicious gunfight, the wounded will writhe about in agony requiring a quick stab of your machete. Explosions, tyres rolling over dirt roads and best of all, the guns, all sound absolutely brilliant, each with their own unique sound.OVERALL 10/10TROPHIES-Ubisoft has included trophy support and they are as challenging as they are fun! Very! They range from completing all Assassination missions to putting your fallen buddy out of his misery! They are all fun and a nice reward for all your efforts!Overall, I'd rate the single-player campaign more enjoyable than Call Of Duty 4, or a nice alternative to! Also after playing this game for any cosiderable time, you'll want your paycheck in uncut diamonds!!!Highly recommended!

Storyline:Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, you are sent to take out "The Jackal", a mysterious character who has rekindled the conflict between the warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfil your mission you will have to play the factions against each other, identify and exploit their weaknesses, and neutralise their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.Campaign:The campaign took me about 23-24 hours to complete, and was amazing and full of action all the way through, it gave you 50km worth of open space to venture around and have fun whilst playing. And whilst following the main story line,it gives you plenty of opertunity's to take side quests from buddys and strangers to earn you diamonds and other stuff. The only real problem that I had with the campaign, was it was ruined by the amount of times you just go driving out going to your destination and then suddenly out of nowhere you are part of open warfare, and it was usually you on your own, against atleast 5 other people. Also a big thing that didn't help, is how your health bar doesn't regain until you revive yourself, which you usually will get killed whilst doing. Also another great thing about the game, is that once you are finished with the main campaign you can explore around the map and turn it into more of a free roam type game.Multiplayer:The multiplayer is possibly what makes Far Cry 2 my most favourite game of all. What makes the multiplayer so much fun is all of the player made maps, which gives you new maps to play on everyday, unlike other games such as Call Of Duty, where you only have around 20 maps and they are all of them. The multiplayer pace isn't to fast or two slow it is just the right speed of action. It gives you plenty of game types to choose from including:-Deathmatch-Team deathmatch-Capture the Diamonds (which is FC2's version of Capture the Flag)-Uprising (which is like ^ but only the captain can capture)The game types are all great fun to play on. The BIG issue with FC2 online is that there are two types of games there are Player Matches and Ranked Mathches, ranked matches are offial games where you can rank up and level up and play competitivly, but there is never anyone playing on ranked matches so it is hard to both rank up offically and to get the online Achievements for FC2, as all the multiplayer achievements are for ranked matches. But don't worry, because Player Matches are great great GREAT fun to play on.Map Creator:The map Creator is what brings the FC2 community together, it gives you amazing oppurtunity to create your own maps and share them online and let people rate them. Although map editor is great fun to play around with alot of people (including myself) will find it very hard to create a descent and fun to play on map. And to create a very fun map it will take atleast, I'd say, 5 hours work on? Which alot of people wont want to spend creating a single map.Overall:Anyone thinking about buying this game in advance for Far Cry 3, I would tell you to buy it and just see what you think of it... I personally thought it was by far, the best game I have ever played.

In terms of structure, Far Cry 2 is nothing less than a revelation. That is a bold statement, especially in this generation when first person shooters (FPS) are being pushed to graphical and gameplay extremes. Nevertheless, it holds true. The open world, dynamic environment and varied weapon set allows you to approach every mission in any way you like. Do you want to go in guns blazing, grenade launcher in hand in broad daylight? How about sneaking in with a silenced submachinegun and pistol to assassinate your target and slip out while the whole encampment goes about its business, oblivious to your presence? Or you could encircle your enemies in a ring of fire using molotovs and the flamethrower, and watch as the blaze consumes everything in its path (assuming you're quick enough not to get caught in it yourself!). Or you could even park a car with an explosive device planted on it in the middle of road and blow it up as your quarry drives past. The options are limitless, and all of them are enjoyable. To rely on any one single method (for instance it is very easy to simply approach every mission with a sniper rifle and grenade launcher) will deprive you of enjoying the various carnage-inducing options available to you!The graphics on the PS3 version are great, and you will frequently stop to admire the scenery. The vast open world is attractive and varied in its terrain, and extremely believable. It is also incredibly hostile, and you will likely spend the first few hours of the game wondering why everyone hates you so much, and then dying. However, persevere and the better weapons will open up and suddenly you will be the most feared man in Africa! There are some criticisms: lots of pop-up, occasional slow down, bizarre AI behaviour (I'd frequently see gun men facing the wrong way and firing, but somehow still hitting me), screen tearing, enemies getting stuck in the scenery, and a somewhat unfair save system. The plot is also convoluted and involves so much backstabbing and double crossing that you quickly lose track of who you are being sent to kill etc, and you rarely develop a bond for anyone, even your buddies. The Multiplayers isn't as well supported as e.g. COD4, and it can take a long time to find a decent lobby, and even longer to level up so that you don't get a pasting. I tend to finish the singleplayer first, but as this took me a total of 37 hours (its a BIG game) I am now likely to get pwned online. The map editor is very comprehensive but difficult to use. I haven't yet managed to play on a map, due to the fact that you need to download them etc and everyone has to be playing on the same map, so you rarely get the chance to try them properly. They could learn something from LittleBigPlanet in terms of sharing maps here.In all, a great game let down by a difficult beginning and end, some graphical and AI issues and a poorly-supported MP (which is the fault of the community really). Hoever, when you're stalking your prey in the dark with a dart rifle, there is nothing better out there at the moment. Love it, especially at the prices its selling for at the moment!

Not ever playing Far Cry before I didnt really no much about this game, I pretty much got it because my COD4 Clan where all getting it (didnt want to be left out) and I saw some very pretty videos!I got my game yesterday and OMG! the first thing that hits you about this game is its visuals, I have owned a 360 for 18 months and PS3 for 10 months so I am quite used to next gen graphics now. BUT I was amazed by the graphics it surpasses COD4 in beauty. I am only a couple of hours in but as a single player experience this beats any FPS hands down in every way.The scope of the game is just huge, from 50km map to the variety of missions and pick ups. The game plays like any really good sandbox action game but in first person. After a few short tutorial missions the game opens up to give you freedom to go anywhere. Dont forget this still a FPS action game so when I say freedom dont think you wil be planting flowers ala Oblivion! But still grab your wrench "pop the hood" of abanonded Jeep fix the motor and then tear off across the beautiful African plains. The single player is apparent 30 + hours long so I have barely scratched the surface really so I wont go in to story, but it promises to be damn good. There are about 8 characters to choose from when you start the game, I am not sure if they all have there individual story lines, but I met quite a few of the during the game! The map is littered with african conflict diamonds which you use as cash to buy safe houses and weapons ect. So you can buy safe houses across the huge map allowing u to save your game a bit like GTA. Before you enter a area you can use your minocular to scout a area out and identify enemies and ammo/health ect!So for the single player if you think of it as GTA Africa in FPS with amazing graphics you wont go far wrong!MAP EDITOR- one of the main reasons people are looking to buy this game. I had a quick go last night and it does look rather fun, but I need to study the manual to see how to get the most from it. All I managed to do with my blank landscape last night was make some hills! Once you get the hang of it, it will be fun creating our own maps and sharing them.MULTIPLAYER- This is the only aspect i'm not too sure about, its rather generic nothing too special. The graphics are as good as the single player, the fire and everything works just aswell. All the usual modes are here just with different names (capture diamond instead of flag ect). I did have some fun games last night, its just nothing too amazing!Like I said its early days and when I get online with my clan i'm sure it will be great. So sorry this review is a touch light, I just wanted to let my fellow amazonians now this game is as great as the we hoped. The single player looks to be the best FPS single player experience since...... well to be honest its probably the best! ...... and even if the multiplayer doesnt win any awards, the single player should get plenty!

I loved farcry and I'm not talking about that instincts rubbish but the pc one. I bought it when my laptop could handle those amazing jungle graphics and it blew me away. Well now I've got this on my xbox and my laptop is hardly used.An xbox 360 to me is a pc in a can. And what does the pc do best but fps's. Same here for the 360 and I am in heaven. So here is farcry2 and my initial impression was good graphics but the story is a bit pants. I became annoyed when my gunned jammed...again and whats with all the driving around. So I went off and had a think. I need to play this one differently and the results are astounding. Think of this game as gta4 in fps form based in africa. Then approach each mission carefully....slowly...be precise and clinical. Will you attack in the early day or go to a safe house and have a kip before you venture off to to that high ground you scouted earlier on. How did you know about that sneeky path or sniper point? You did some intel and you recruited some help from your other merc mates. He did owe me as I've saved his life on a number of occassions. As have my merc mates. Yep in the heat of battle when my broken body couldnt take anymore I have been saved by them. You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. You are trying to scratch a living while you are trailing an arms dealer called the Jackal so if a faction wants someone blownaway then...for a price its up to you.I love the animations when your charecter takes his meds or seals a gunshot wound with a book of lit matches. He even at times uses a pair of plyers to rip the bullet out!.To sum up the 1 player experience must be viewed as something different or you will not see this games true qualities. It is NOT cod4...you are not rambo. You are a merc in a large sandbox game trying to survive during an african civil war.Enjoy!!Multiplayer....Again this is not cod. Ive only tryed team deathmatch and a capture the flag style game that envolves conflict diamonds. The loads outs are the usual affair.....well balanced and can be improved with experience points. The cars and trucks and allot of the enviroments are like the film black hawk down. Jeeps with 50 cals bolted on the back etc...no american might here. Like the one player every person has the potential to heal by digging the bullets out etc but in a gun battle it aint easy. When you are wounded badly a timer counts down allowing your team to try and get to you....nice animations again when you get picked up.As well as killing this gets you points aswell. All the charecters look like irregular soilders and its fantastic. Again imagine black hawk down but with out the americans in it....Its civil war...Slow start in 1 player but take your time and the same with the multiplayer. approach this with an open mind. Im Rodent28 online and I will see you there.update....1 player is crap...multiplayer cant stand up to others that are out....i traded it in ...eventally

The first Farcry game was one that bored me, but I thought as a game it had potential. So, when farcry two came out it was only natural to find out if it has improved. The answer in short, Yes, but in long, this may as well be a completely different game. instead of being some flashy gun toting charcter who gets chased by zombies, you choose from a range of grizzled veteran mercenaries and live in a war torn land in africa.Once you've chosen your character you get a pretty impressive cut scene where you are a passenger in a taxi, he explains the land to you while propoganda is playedon the radio. At the end of the journey though, you contract malaria, and nearly die.It then becomes apparent why you are on war torn african country, and that is to kill an arms dealer. the second scene is with said arms dealer and yet again it's pretty well scripted and acted. After said arms dealer has left you to die, the game really starts, he dissapeares and your old boss is unreachable. So, you start your job as a mercenary doing odd jobs. These come in four categories, blowing up a weapons crate, which conveniently drives round in a circle, until you blow it to hell. Jobs for one of the two factions who's leaders just happen to live in the same town. Assassination jobs which come from a tower or a job for a buddy that increases your reputation.Buddy? I hear you ask, yes buddy throughout the game you meet the other mercenaries that were available to choose from at the beggining. What they are basically for is that if you die they act as a get out of jail free card, but apart from Josip, I've found them pretty pathetic shots, and every time I see Warren Clyde I want to shoot that Charlie Sheen look alike in the face. Anyway... All of this so far has impressed and the game has been playable for hours, but then doubt started kicking in, the repetition got to me, and my sense of achievement, that is all so important in a game was evaporated. Also, whenever I had to do a mission the enemies annoyed me, they managed to see you from 100 miles away even if you are hiding behind the largest tree, and they drop everything just to run you off the road. Forgot to mention, their are vehicles but all FPS's have vehicles now adays. As the game progresses the sense of achievment doesn't really come back until you finally meet up with the arms dealer again, the plot takes a massive twist, and I was both appaled and smiling with glee at it.Whether or not to get the game. Yes, it was a nce experience and provided days of entertainment and after a break probably will do again. Though if you hate guns jamming and the idea of having to take malaria pills all the time, then maybe not because both things happen a lot. It is a vast improvement on the previous game and is a pretty excellent FPS. If you like this kind of game then get it.

... I can only reiterate the complaints people have about being shot at almost continuously. The problem is quite simply that at virtually every crossroads, and there are a number of them, there is a checkpoint. The checkpoints are manned by usually at least 3 people intent on nothing more than killing you.Now some people say 'it's a war zone, so what do you expect?'. Fair comment, but even in war zones there are areas that aren't full of homicidal maniacs who appear to have a common lack of intelligence. For example, you've just killed the morons manning a checkpoint, go down the road for a few hundred yards, go back, and there's a new set of morons using identical tactics to the last lot you blew away.So you can try to go across country and avoid the checkpoints, but you'll soon be attacked by the same morons driving jeeps who somehow saw you from their checkpoint anyway, so that's no way of avoiding them.Anyone who's actually been to Africa will tell you that real checkpoints are more of a salary booster than a gathering of local psychopaths, and if you're happy to contribute to the 'tea fund', the chances are you'll soon be on your way. In other words being met with a hail of bullets the minute you get within 100 yards of a checkpoint isn't actually very realistic.Further, there are only 2 factions, so it's reasonable to assume that most checkpoints will be manned by people from one or other faction, so with that in mind when you're carrying out a vital mission for a faction why does everyone still shoot at you? Isn't it reasonable to assume that 50% of the characters you meet will be on your side?Thngs aren't helped by the fact that probably half the landscape is unscalable cliff, and the route from a to b is by road flanked by these cliffs for much of it's length, meaning you can't avoid the checkpoints. Interestingly, the game comes with a map editor that allows you to create your own landscapes which evidently don't have to be endless rock with a few channels for roads, so it would appear that the game creators decided to force us into facing these interminable checkpoints for hours on end.To put the problem into perspective, I reckon that on average for each mission about 75% of the time is spent getting through checkpoints, with just the remainder allocated to the actual mission itselfApart from these checkpoints which can be very frustrating, I haven't yet got to the point where I'm not still having fun, but I can see the possibility that I'll get bored with the seemingly endless skirmishing between any mission specific activity and pick up a new game.

now that i have completed this and played online i have decided to share my thoughts. originally i went through a phase of i love it and then hate it. however now i can tell you that this is a very good game.however there are some notacible flaws:. the guard posts should be able to be captured, you cannot do this in the game so every time you go past one to get to an objective you end up getting shot and chased down by a few jeeps. which really doesnt help. majority of the time you cannot avoid them as they will see you.. enemies have aimbot - the enemies AI is magnificent, however they seem to be able to hit you from a kilometere away, which isnt right.so every time you pass them they will continue to hit you and sometimes take a quarter of your life, which again doesnt help in missions.. vehicles are unreliable - i dont know whether this is my own luck but i seem to find that the vehicles break down whenever you are on a mission, and when you are not they hardly ever do break down.. assualt rifles dont hit so well - unless you get the upgrades, the assualt rifles dont hit the enemy alot, which shouldnt happen.. missions upon missions - i feel like i am playing assassins creed again with all the missions. i think this is why the game has no replay value afterwards.now for the good points. enemy AI is the best i have seen - they will kill you if you are not on your toes, i died multiple times on easy because they either ambushed me or ran me over with a jeep. so the enemy will give you a challenege no matter the dificulty.. good variety of weapons - there are a few models for each type of weapon which can leave you to wanting everything, this is possible and every weapon has its ups and downs. which is quite intersting.. expansive enviroment - this is 50km2 enviroment, so there is lots and lots of room for your player to move around and discover. also you dont have to drive everywhere, just take the buss. much easier.. multiplayer is good - i have only played a few rounds but there are four game modes for you to choose. which adds a good amount of variety to the multiplayer. it isnt as good as COD4 but still it is worth going on.all in all, it is a good game despite its flaws, sometimes it can leave you frustrated and sometimes you will love it. that is just the way this game is.however, i must warn you that this game hasnt much replay value as i have gotten quite bored of it already.

This is an update of my previous review - as this game has really grown on me, a lot! It is so easy to not give this game a chance or misunderstand the frustrations - but I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong. My previous review was based on 12% completion, since then I've completed more like 40% and I'm really enjoying it, every minute. I'd give this game 4.5 stars out of 5 (due to the niggling frustrations), rather than the 3 I previously gave it.I don't think it is going to be the best ever game to grace the PS3 but it still pretty damn good. It's different to other FPSs in that is in an open sandbox world where you find/choose your own missions, rather than following a single path through the game as is traditional. The single player can be annoying at times - vehicles breaking down can become tiresome. And being shot at by guard posts (they're everywhere) whilst all I want to do is find my next mission, and not die several times in the process of finding a mission, can be a frustration. However, I'm starting to manage all these frustrations now, and still find myself enjoying the game. Most important things to remember are:* Never throw your bought weapons away (and keep topping up that ammo at the guard posts). Weapons picked up off the ground keep jamming.* Keep your map open whilst driving (and don't forget the square button for the bigger map area)* Always drive a vehicle with a mounted machine gun, as these are essential for taking out guard posts.* Stop within a suitable distance of the guard post to take out the enemy.* Make use of the buses to get around the map - saves greatly on time and effort getting to that next mission, or completing a mission where the target is on the other side of the map.The multiplayer is bog standard fayre, albeit reasonably well executed bog standard. It's certainly no where near as good as COD4 or Metal Gear Online.Graphics wise it is pretty good. I hated GTA4 but driving around the african planes never becomes boring - it's beautiful out there, I love it. I don't think the graphics are as polished as COD4/MGS4 but they're still good, and at times are breathtaking! I love the sense of time passing as well, especially loving dawn and dusk.Nice touch with the self healing though - removing bullets and straightening broken arms.

First things first, this isnt COD4 just because it's a FPS doesnt mean it is a clone of COD in fact the sheer scale of the game and slower approach makes the two almost incomparable. The other thing id like to say is that even though its Farcry 2 the character of Jack Carver is no longer used, instead we have a handfull of mercenaries to choose from who have various different backgrounds although im not too sure how each effects the story if at all. Also alot of people have complained that the mutant abilities have gone since Carver is no longer the character then this makes perfect sence, also the creatures in Instinct i feel took alot away from the experience but thats just my opinion.Farcry 2 is a massive game, the different environments change how the game plays, from open expansive deserts to the lush jungle and tall rock faces any mission or just exploration can be tackled in any way. I am only onto my 3rd proper mission with the majority of my time spent on exploring or unlocking safehouses for later missions, this might sound boring but it opens up more items on your map also it lets you tryout some of the games weapons. There has been some talk on here about the weapons and the "jamming" system i feel it adds alot to the realism factor as getting them wet or over use can cause them to jam or in somecases explode now this might bother some,i found this quite impressive as it stops you using one gun through out the entire game which is possible with alot of other FPS. The fire elements are used well too as you can start them to block off paths or setfire to shacks and barrels to make the fight move forward in your favour. I feel that FC2 is more similar to GTA rather than COD with its various side missions and faction elements also the buddy system works well with them offering different ways to tackle missions and helping you when you get too shot up. In all i think this game is a very good addition to the FPS genre, yes there are some gamers who love Halo or COD who might nt like this but i urge anyone who likes a different take on things to give this a go,final statement would be ive been playing for around 4/5 hours and im no where near finished,if this were COD id be on my second play through by now. Maybe some gamers dont like the idea of a game that has a long play time?
