Short version:-huge step up from using an Xbox controller (gamepad) with analogue sticks for racing games.-unless you need bumpers; Microsoft left them out-Works beautifully on a PC with windows 8.1 and a wireless receiver bought separately.I've used this controller to play the 1999 PC racing game Re-Volt, using a supposedly-official wireless receiver that I bought on ebay.I fumbled with the wheel for a long time to get it to switch on and pair with the receiver. I still don't know how I did it. However it turned out to work really well in windows 8.1 with the game that I've mentioned. No discs required. When I got into game I was very pleasantly surprised.Control was very smooth and responsive and just nicer than using my XBOX 360 gamepad. The triggers have a lot more throw than the XBox 360 gamepad, which I really appreciate; I'm not on full-bore as much now. Steering is very smooth. I am terrible at racing with this controller but I might actually keep going with it. At first I had to remember to unsteer after steering, but later the game became a lot of fun. Much better than analogue sticks.I tested the Speed Wheel using the "HTML5 Gamepad Tester". The rotation value maxes out at about 4 o'clock. The controller appears to be extremely sensitive with no dead zone. The tester shows the angle on a scale of 0 to 1. To give an idea of the amount of random error, the fourth decimal place is jumping around all the time when the controller is sitting still. That seems pretty good. I also checked the delay, and it seemed to be short or no delay at all. Again very impressive. It seems like this controller behaves like it were wired instead of wireless.People who complain that there are no bumpers have a point, but there are what, effectively 12 different buttons on this wheel? The appearance of the controller is good, especially the matt parts. With the two AA batteries in, the controller actually has a bit of heft to it. But the balance is great. They appear to gotten the center of mass almost right in the center. The controller also feels great in the hands. Some youtube reviews found annoyance from the two lighting-up parts on the ends. I haven't actually seen those light up in-game so that's not a problem for me. They light up when the controller is switched on.One negative that I noticed is that if you bump the controller hard and in a certain way, a battery loses contact and it switches off.One or two of the people who gave one star reviews here seemed find it impossible to drive with. I can't compare it with a normal fixed wheel because I haven't tried one, but it is hard and takes practice. Going from keyboard to gamepad was harder for me though. I have already done some cornering that seems better than what I could do with my gamepad. It really feels great to drive with when I'm doing well.Another person complained that it just didn't turn enough in game, or something. I am pretty sure that this is a problem with the game and its settings, or lack thereof. Without testing the Speed Wheel carefully, I think the inputs it gives are good and probably about the same as any other wheel.

If you're reading this, then you're probably like me. It's just not practical or possible to own a proper wheel and you want to know if this thing is better than a controller for driving games. Having used it for a few days now, I can tell you that it is, but as you may already know, some idiot forgot to put all the buttons on it.The design meeting must have gone something like this. "So lads, we've made a quality feeling device. Well balanced, better longer triggers than on the controller, and more precise in the turns, but there's a problem. Somethings gotta go. It's either the fundamentally important L/R shoulder buttons or the silly, pointless green lights on the top. So we're all agreed then, out with the shoulder buttons. Oh, and no one really needs a mic do they so let's cut that too"!!!!Seriously though, once you set it up right in the menus and get used to it, this thing really is quite good. I bought it primarly for use with F1 2011 and Forza 4. Despite what you might have read, it is actually possible to configure the wheel satisfactorily without the LR shoulder buttons for the driving element, even with manual gears, DRS, KERS, etc. The problem comes when you're not driving. Want to fast forward time while in the garage on F1? Forget it. Want to tune your car set up in Forza? Can't be done without the shoulder buttons. Totally unforgivable, especially for Forza as it's made by a Microsoft first party studio! The only way round this is to turn off the wheel and turn on a controller, then switch back when it's time to drive. This gets old fast!Another issue is that the rumble/vibration seems to be much weaker than on a pad, even with it set to max in the options. Indeed, Forza 4 has no rumble at all but this is a know bug that should be fixed so no fault of the device itself. Despite these major flaws I'm still glad I got one, which should tell you how good it could and should have been.Just thought I'd add my settings for both games which might help new owners of the wheel.F1 2011Steering sensitivity 60%Steering linearity 25%You can use manual gears by mapping them along with KERS and DRS to the X, Y, A, B buttons. Use the Back button for car status and access instant replays from the pause menu. Set up like this, the only thing you can't do is look behind but the game has very good arrows to show where others cars are so it's not a problem for me.Forza 4The problem I mentioned before where you got no rumble has now been patched and fixed. I find the default advanced settings fine and use configuration 3.

If you're like me and afraid of being labelled a mega geek for buying an expensive steering wheel for a game then this is for you. I was looking for a really good wheel to play Forza 4 with over the holiday and so I went out and bought a quite expensive and large steering wheel set. It was very large, very cumbersome, took ages to set up and totally messed up my living room. However, I tried my best to keep an objective view and to test out this 'amazing' and expensive 3rd party steering wheel to see what all the hype was about. It was shock horror! I felt like a total geek! It was a complete and utter disaster and made not much difference to the game at all and it was no fun whatsoever.I was utterly disappointed with the manufacturer for convincing me to buy such an expensive and cumbersome item and immediately disconnected and returned it to the shop for a full refund. On my way out of the shop, I noticed Microsoft's Speed Wheel.I had read reviews that Microsoft had brought out a terrible wireless steering wheel for its XBox 360 system, that it wasn't conventional and even had some buttons missing. However, one point that all the reviewers could not deny was the accuracy of the product. I decided to give the world of racing one last chance as I had never really enjoyed racing games. I'm so glad I did! This wheel changes everything! Please try for yourself. Exceptional and revolutionary. Well done Microsoft! This controller is not flaky like the Kinect, Wii or PS Move control systems - it uses the same strong wireless connection as normal Xbox 360 controllers so you can rest your arms on your lap and do not have to point the wheel towards the TV. Please try for yourself with Forza 4 or F1 2011.Pros:1. Light, sleek, stylish and discrete. Small and easy to tidy away. Girlfried won't notice!2. Long-lasting battery.3. Excellent, simple wireless connection.4. Very accurate.5. Inexpensive.6. Improves lap times and overall enjoyment of racing games.Cons:1. The two bumper buttons are missing, but not a big issue in my opinion.

I bought this to use with Forza 4 because I found the standard controller joystick difficult to use for fine steering control, and I wanted something that wouldn't take ages to set up or take up lots of space when not being used like a normal steering wheel with pedals etc.I have never used a steering wheel / pedals on a video game so can only compare the use to a standard controller. Using this wireless speed wheel has totally transformed the way I play Forza. The control is much finer and I am now balancing steering and throttle on corners, can feel and manage under and over steer more easily and the whole thing feels much more realistic than with a standard controller. It really is almost a different game with this controller. However, when I first used it I was on verge of sending it back because the cars were almost uncontrollable - suddenly spinning out on long corners, felt like deadspots in the steering movement and generally all over the place. It took an evening of hot laps to get the hang of it so be prepared - it takes some getting used to but is a much better experience than a standard controller. The construction is fine - not quite as robust as the standard controller but not bad. I didn't have any problems with tired arms as reported in some other reviews but I don't tend to play more than 60-90 mins at a time. The lack of RB/RL buttons is a shame as there is plenty of space to have put them, but at least on Forza it is not too inconvenient. It means you can't change camera view without going to the menu but I don't tend to do that much anyway. One nice touch is that the green rings on the two ends of the controller light up - the left hand one flashes when there is a gear change.Overall I would definitely recommend this but be prepared to persevere with it as it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it.

I purchased the wireless speed wheel on launch day along with Forza 4 and overall I am impressed with it. I've set out some of the good and bad points below; The Good- The wheel is well constructed and feels nice and sturdy.- The ergonomic design is nice and the wheel has a good weight to it- The force feedback is excellent- Wheel is exteremely responsive- Allows an immersion into a racing game without the need for an extremely costly and overly cumbersome set up.The BadUnfortunately there are a few issues- Firstly, there are no shoulder bumpers and whilst this would not normally be an issue Forza utilises these in the menus for navigation this means that you will need to switch back and fourth between a controller at times which is a little annoying.- Second, there is no headphone jack so you will either need to use a seperate controller, wireless headset or Kinect to chat.- Finally, the Forza options do not allow for a desireable setup so you cannot have "look back" and "telemetry" enabled at the same time, I am sure this will be addressed in time though.OverallWhilst it isn't without issues this is an excellent product which I have really enjoyed using, I am a half decent leaderboard racer and I have shaved seconds off lap times with it. The wheel adds a new dimension of play to any game and I would highly recommend it. Despite some other comments the wheel really doesn't make a game feel like mario kart as it is much more refined and responsive than the Wii system.Buy it expecting a fun compromise to a full race wheel and enjoy playing the game in a new way!

This wheel is really quite good. If you are a serious racing game enthusiast then you probably would prefer a full blown wheel with foot pedals and force feedback, but if you are on a budget, or just want to have smoother control than the basic Xbox controller stick, ease of use and storage, then this could be for you.The wheel is responsive and allows a smoother line to be taken round any circuit, although sharp 90 degree+ corners require over 90 degree turn of the wheel involving some crossing of arms (possibly this can be adjusted via "setup" in some games). The wheel has rumble feedback, felt on cutting corners or when you run over cobbles or off track! There are green lights on the ends of the "wheel",these seem to flash on gear changes, braking etc, but are not distracting.Setup is easy if you read the simple instructions, or if you already know how to add an additional controller. The wheel is supplied with an installation CD which you won't need if you have logged into xBox Live at some recent time as your console will have been automatically updated. Why not 5 star, well the only slight fault I found was that this wheel has no bumper control buttons, but the wheel software seems to compensate for this, as in some games the X and Y buttons are allocated to some of the original bumper button functions (eg. drivers view etc). The directional pad may have also been allocated to HUD functions as well as the usual Menu choices. For the price, I would recommend this as it adds more pleasure to any racing game. It also works with most Xbox 360 racing games.

Got this as a Christmas present along with a copy of Forza 4. Actually, I requested it as a gift after thinking long and hard about a wheel with pedals instead. What made me decide on this? Space, and hassle - thought I'd be much more likely to use something that can be easily shoved in a drawer. Even after I saw all the negative reviews I still decided to give it a whirl.Well, I'm now up to driver level 42 on Forza and I have to say that I'm still really enjoying using the wheel. The extra travel on the triggers gives you a bit more finesse on the throttle & brakes and the accuracy and sensitivity on the steering is really, really impressive. One thing that I have noticed - which might be the same for the anchored wheels too, never having tried one I don't know - is that it's really difficult to control from the outside-the-car view. With this view I found myself sawing at the wheel a LOT. However, from the in-car view - when you can see the graphical wheel in front of you - you get the visual feedback required to understand what steering angle you're applying. As mentioned elsewhere, the lack of the LB and RB bumper-buttons is a bit of a pain in Forza - but if all you want to do is race (and you're not fussed about decals and tuning) - then it's no real hardship. All in all an excellent product if you want a bit more immersion, but can't be bothered with the hassle of an anchored wheel.

I love racing games but I always feel I'm cheating when I play using a controller or keyboard. The Wireless Speed Wheel gives you a far more realistic racing game experience on the Xbox 360.Unlike a conventional steering wheel this one doesn't need a stand or a clunky desk to support it. You simply place one hand on either side and hold it in the air in front of you, in a similar way to holding a normal steering wheel. The controller is fairly light but it can become tiring depending on the distance you hold it away from you.All the standard buttons are there, all except the two shoulder buttons for some reason. You can reconfigure spare buttons to do the same jobs but a racing game doesn't need that many buttons anyway.Set up is non-existent; it's as easy to connect as the standard Xbox controller. Press the centre button and the controller will connect to your Xbox. I play Dirt 3 and the Speed Wheel works straight away without any need for configuration. It should work with any racing game on the Xbox 360.The steering wheel has about 180 degrees of rotation (90 degrees either way from holding it level). It is responsive and feels far better than using a standard controller. You should definitely consider this if you are into racing games on the Xbox 360.

Well had this now for a week and i was unsure if i would be able to get on with it. you should not compare with a bolted down wheel but i would suggest that it is as good and as responsive and any i have used. yes a force feedback wheel will always be much better but you get what you pay for. if you are a serious racing freak on the xbox you will not be even looking at this so, if you are considering i would suggest you go for it. centering the wheel takes a little getting used to as you don't have any springs helping but all in all i would go for this rather than rigging up some form of platform to bolt down a fixed wheel. if you have a table but a fixed wheel, if not this is recomended.you WILL need to spend a few hours getting used to this but once you do i think it is great. only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is that it is missing the LB and RB shoulder buttons. if i had to compare it to a force feedback wheel the force feedback wheel would be a 5 this would be a 3 but as i said you get what you pay for and at £34 from PCW (sorry amazon) you can't go wrong.UPDATE:23/12/11I can confirm that the above applies. not as good as a bolted down wheel but very good and worth the money. Die hard racers will disagree but casual or semi serious reacers will love it.

I bought the Speed Wheel as I have never used a wheel before for any game and with Forza 4 I decided to buy the speed wheel too. At first it was a bit of challenge but quickly got used to it and now I love it!!! Very responsive and an earlier comment said it was unplayable with more powerful cars....not true, I have been racing the R2 and R1 cars with the controller and all works well, might be a bit of power sliding but nothing a bit of braking can't sort out. Also I play for upto an hour, even more and do not get any arm or neck ache but then that might be because I have got used to it, I don't know.Downsides...the missing shoulder buttons let it down although they are not required when racing in Forza 4.I used the wheel for Driver SF too and it seems this wheel was made and tested with Forza 4 as control of the car was no where near as good although was playable. Also you cannot use the shift feature well in Driver SF as there is no stick control to float around the city.Overall, if you love Forza then this is a must, I read reviewers say it's nothing like the Madcatz or Logitech steering wheels but then neither is the price so well worth it.

This wheel I think has recieved some harsh reviews from people who were comparing to proper wheel/pedal setups, so of course they were going to be disapointed. But for what it is, this wheel enhances the gameplay experience compared to a control pad - This is the thing to remember.Yes, the shoulder buttons are missing. Glaring error, you've read that already.I bought this for Forza 4, and it is possible to play the game without those buttons. Some things you can't do. Nothing game breaking in my opinion.Yes, only takes AA batteries and no mic port... not particularly fussed about that myself. Now the good points. Steering: Awesome!Infinitely better than flicking an analogue stick left and right.Really you couldn't hope for more steering accuracy from this wheel. The triggers too with their extra travel allow you a little more control over acceleration and breaking. If like me you play Forza with all the driving aids switched off, just for the enjoyment of being in total control of your car, but are unwilling to pay for or have no room for a full sized wheel/pedal setup, you will not be disapointed with this.

I bought this for my 26 yr old brother who'd asked me to get it for him, expecting it to be a let down and waste of money. However, after trying it, I was seriously impressed, so much so that I'd now like one for myself.Admittedly, I did only play Forza 4 so am not sure how versatile it is with other driving games yet but I can vouch for the fact that it works excellently with this game.If you're using the "in-car view" in Forza (like a real man), the wheel on the screen moves in-sync with the movement of the speed wheel. It also vibrates on each side when you'd expect it to. The combination makes for excellent control of the cars and a much more enjoyable gaming experience than a regularcontroller can offer. The downsides are :- lack of rb and lb buttons which means you can't tune your car with ease.- There is nowhere for the regular headsets to plug into so you either need to accept this or have the wireless headset.- it doest have an inbuilt rechargeable battery so you need to provide your own.Drawbacks aside, for the price, it's an excellent piece of kit and I would recommend it.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago and I think it's excellent! To me it bridges a gap between the standard xbox 'bat' and a full on wheel. It's never going to replace a wheel but after playing for a few weeks with it, I now find using the standard controller rather frustrating. I'm using it with Forza 3, Dirt 3 and Dirt 2, along with various other driving games. Soon to be Forza 4 as well. In the case of Forza 3 & Dirt 2, I basically replayed them using the wheel and yes, the lack of shoulder buttons can be a pain but for actual racing it's tremendous and I've had immense fun playing these again with the wheel. Rallying is just fantastic with it...It's a good weight & balance. These people who're moaning about aching arms need to lift some weights and man up! Considering it's costs a few quid more than a new controller, the price is spot on... I must say it took a couple of evenings and a bit of cussing & swearing to get 'my eye in' but after that it's a pleasure to use.Even with the lack of shoulder buttons, I'm giving it 5 stars. Purely because it's a load of FUN!!!Recommended.

I was very sceptical before committing to purchase this. I had not seen a decent wireless steering wheel before this, so was worries about paying the relatively low price of £35 to buy this. This wheel IS a good product and I would recommend it to the keen racer, but it is not perfect. There are a few major flaws.Firstly, it is FANTASTIC when used in Formula 1 2010 (I haven't bought F1 2011 yet). The only problem is that the wheel has no shoulder buttons LB and RB, so for example you can't fast forward the time in practice or qualifying. On a positive note, the wheel is very precise with the steering input, and there is NO delay between steering input and the car turning. It feels very realistic (if you call it that!)However, for Forza 4 this is NOT a good wheel. The steering input is not followed by immediate car movement so you end up turning not enough, then too much, then having to correct yourself.I would strongly recommend against buying this wheel if you only want it for Forza, however if you have F1 2010/11, it is definately worth it just for that.Enjoy...

if you're casual racing games player, this wheel is perfect replacement for a standard controller. I've tested it with Forza 4 and it just bring another dimension to the game. So far this game was sitting up on the shelf gathering dust, but when I fired up this bad boy... it's still spinning in my xbox. It takes a little to switch your mind to use this kind of steering, as it has no support whatsoever and it's quite sensitive (although this can be adjusted in-game). It's more demanding in rally games, as you'd have to constantly look up ahead for even smallest obstactles or turns. You don't have to hold your arms up all the times. In fact, I always keep my hands down, resting on laps, while playing.Force Feedback is quite alright, nothing spectacular, but you'll feel bumps or contacts with other cars. This wheel saves loads of buck over proper wheel setup, as well as space. Give it a little more time to get used to in your hands, as it makes significant difference for all of us being previously hooked up to the standard controller.
