Purchased these for a little bit of light hiking whilst on holiday and ended up not really using them as intended. I wore these whilst driving up to Fort William due to their airy design. I had planned to wear my proper hiking boots once I arrived there to actually climb Ben Nevis.Once we had arrived at Fort William I realised that in my rush to leave the house I had forgotten to actually put the hiking boots in the car.Faced with a bit of a dilemma I eventually decided to try the climb up UK's biggest Munroe in these glorified sandals. After all, how bad could it be?Turns out it was pretty good. The Merrell sandals were superb. Excellent traction underfoot gave me a huge amount of confidence whilst climbing.Despite not having any socks on my feet felt comfortable and the light weight of the shoes/sandals made climbing a realitvely easy affair.Once at the top my feet felt a little sore and my ankles a little weary but nothing to worry about. On the way back down I realised the weakness of these shoes. They have VERY little in the way of cushioning. After a near four hour descend in 28 degree heat my feet, ankles and knees were not doing so well. I developed two blisters on one foot due most likely to my feet getting wet whilst trudging through a patch of snow near the top.Inspite of this I feel I have to give the shoes five stars as they went above and beyond what they are designed to do and coped with rock terrain, snow, 28 degree heat and 9 miles of climbing and descending. Two blisters was a fair price to pay.The lacing system worked perfectly and the vibram soles are superb. If you're on the fence I would recommend that you get these. Since the climb I've used these as driving shoes, hiking shoes, beach shoes and training shoes.I'll be using proper hiking boots for my next Munroe though!

I have never been one for open toe sandals, so this is what I consider much more practical. It offers almost the same protection for your toes as a pair of shoes except that is it vented with cutouts. The footbed is plastic so that the shoes can be submerged in water yet should not take too long to dry out.The inside of the shoe is lined with neoprene so it is soft and comfortable. The laces are elastic and can be fastened one handed with a slide fastener. The Vibram sole gives good grip. The finish and stitching of the shoes is very good and I like the colour. Finally the fit. I have found that if I buy a Merrell shoe, whatever the style, if I buy a size 13 it fits. The sizing appears consistent throughout the range of footwear products. This makes purchasing it on the internet so much easier. It also seems that on these shoes they have taken the sizing into account even though there is no insole as there would be with a pair of boots. It's my 7th pair of Merrells, my reasoning for buying them has always been a good fit, look good and that they are long lasting and wear well. I haven't had to change my opinion on those points yet.

Buying my second pair of these, they are excellent shoes for wearing every day and walking around town. The fit is great, wide enough in the toe box to accommodate moderately wide feet and nothing to chaff or rub - instantly comfortable. No laces to faff with and come undone either. The soles have just enough cushioning to prevent heel jarring when walking on tarmac, but unlike most trainers and outdoor shoes not so much that you lose all tactile feedback from the ground. As a result they feel remarkably light and agile. My only real criticism is that they could do with a little more arch support and may encourage pronation in lazy walkers, but because they are light and flexible you can walk naturally in them so it isn't a problem the way that it would be in heavier, stiffer shoes. That said it's ridiculous that they are sold as hiking shoes of course - no way would I go hiking in shoes as light and thin as these. They are for walking on tarmac or good paths only and have absolutely no water resistance (the clue is in "Sieve"), ankle support or protection from sharp / loose rocks.

This is my first pair of sandals and very pleased with them. There are light and have decent arch support. I purchased them because I camp with the Boy Scouts and was tired of trying to keep my feet dry. It is a loosing battle. I purchased good water proof boots/shoes but feet sweat. At one summer camp it rained the entire week. It was impossible to keep shoes dry. I decided to embrace the water instead of trying to fight it. I used these sandals for a mountain bike camping trip with the Boy Scouts for the first time. It was a cold and wet weekend, about 50 degrees during the day. I was concerned that my feet were going to be cold but they were not.I wore these socks: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IB78Y3E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1My feet did not get soaked. It was a light rain during most of the day. I am sure if my feet did get soaked they would have been cold but I took the chance because I wanted to test their capabilities. I brought a backup pair of shoes just in case.

Four stars because the sizing is a bit out but no other issues.Had to buy a size 10 when I am normally an 8.5 / 9 so please heed this and the many other warnings to go higher otherwise your toe nails will clip the front inside.Bought these for my trip to South Africa (had to buy when wife was in S.A. because she hates them by default) and they were in the sea several times, waded deep into a reed bed whilst fishing and hill walking in Hartenbos. These sandals are excellent, they have the same sole as my walking boots and it shows, albeit these are significantly more comfortable than my walking boots. I would definitely recommend these, I hope they last but time will tell.I am doing the kiltwalk next weekend which is 23 miles so will update if there has been any change.

Just got these today and I was extremely excited to try them on. As I slipped my foot in, the shoe grabbed my foot and it was like my foot was in a glove. The neoprene inner is extremely flexible and I can already tell just walking around the house they will be very comfortable. If they hold up to the outdoors and are true to the brand name of Merrell they will be a very nice hiking shoe in wrt/dry environments. I wear an 11.5 in other brands and prefer a wide shoe but these 11.5D fit me perfect! I can't wait to get a couple hikes/walks in as I think I hit the jackpot with this pick.Update: got about 15 miles in walking the woods and not one blister. I did have a stick put a hole in the neoprene inner but it is not to noticable.Over all I am still happy.

These Shoes!!!! Best investment I have ever made. I took my honeymoon in Hawaii, and bought these shoes to romp around the island in. After 7 days of , beaches, jungles, and a volcano, the shoes still looked great! I walked a minimum of five miles in them a day. They did not tear or break and the elastic did not stretch. I did a LOT of research before buying and it was worth it! I went barefoot in the shoes and they either dryed fast or allowed for my feet to breath and never feel soggy. The sizes run a little large so if you are going barefoot buy a size under what you where. I am a size 11.5 so I bought a size 10.5 and they fit great. The shoes never felt loose and gripped all types of terrain with ease.I also never got foot fatigue. Super Super happy!!!

Prior to these I had some Keen Newport Sandals, which have a similar look. I was about to order a new pair when I spotted the Merrells in a magazine review. They look very similar but without Keen's trademark, huge, bumper over the toes and as I wasn't a great fan of that feature - I thought I'd give the Merrells a go.Look wise there are a lot less intrusive. Comfort wise, they are pretty incredible, I hardly know I am wearing them. The heal strap is so comfortable that at first they felt as if they were not secure on my feet. But they are.I like the elasticated laces with the adjustment clip - must better that normal laces and definitely better than the Velcro alternatives.

I bought these shoes for a music festival and I’m not lying when I say I’ve barely taken them off since. I find them very comfortable and supportive, even with my flat feet. I typically need wide shoes, but these fit really well and don’t become distorted by my thick feet. The materials are holding up really well and the bottoms have barely begun to wear out despite walking many thousands of steps over the past few months. They dry quickly and the ability to walk through just about every terrain, including streams and rivers, is empowering.I’ll be sad when I have to hang them up for winter.Great for any urban/rural hiker.Chicks dig em too ;)

These are great shoes. I wanted a water shoe that I could wear fishing, hiking, etc. I bought these and the Merrell All Out Blaze Aero Sport Hiking Shoe. I found those to be a little too bulky, plus you would need/want to wear socks with them. I figured that could be uncomfortable if you got your socks wet, despite them draining well. These are definitely meant to be worn without socks, but they are extremely comfortable that way. They come off and on very easily and look great. The vibram sole allows you to be sure footed on wet or submerged rocks and the neoprene dries out very quickly. Overall, great shoe.

Pleased with a pair of Merrell Hiking Shoes bought 12 months ago so, needing a replacement for a pair of sandals, decided to give these a try. Very pleased. Well made, lightweight but sturdy. Bungee laces can be pulled tight to prevent foot sliding forward, without compromising comfort, and seem to stay put. Open heel and side vents but foot well supported, closed toe provides some protection. Bought size 10 as Merrell shoes seem to be slightly undersized (normally I take a 9 - 9.5) and they are nigh on perfect. I know from experience of Sebago Deck Shoes that Vibram soles will be hardwearing.

The first pair of these I ordered were huge, I think it is because the UK sizing on Amazon and on the Merrill box is incorrect, it states US 11 = UK 10.5. in the past I have bought Merrell walking boots and a size 10 (US) is the same as about an 8.5. I replaced the 10.5 for a 9.5 and although a little big, (a 9 would have been perfect), putting insoles in really helped. So for a rule of thumb (or toe) US sizes are 1.5 size smaller than UK not as the box indicates .5 of a size. The 9.5 I have just received are so comfortable I don't want to take them off.

First of all, I like them. They're perfect for what I want. Cool, practical, comfortable and appear hard wearing. I'm not a serious walker but was expecting them to be a little more like a walking shoe. The best description I can think for them is "a posh croc." Now don't get me wrong I can't stand crocs but these have a similar feel but are a million times better. The size was a surprise too. I'm a broad 10 and a half and so went for the 11 as so many people had said they were small, however I think I could have got away with a 10 and a half.

My husband wore these for two weeks straight on an island vacation. I got the women's version. They were AMAZING. We could hike on the super muddy trails and sink right in and then blast off all the mud with water before getting in the car again. Also wore them in the ocean on particularly rocky beaches. They weren't super comfortable while walking around with them wet but they dry pretty quick and they were so much more versatile than regular hiking shoes. The arch support was good and we never had tired feet.

Have only been using these for a day so can't really comment on durability, however they were pretty comfortable straight out of the box. What I don't love, however, it the "insole" material in contact with my feet.It seems to be some form of (very slightly rubbery) plastic, which makes my feet feel somewhat "clingy" :(Socks make it much more comfortable but these shoes shouldn't need them.Maybe this is common in this type of shoes (sandals), in any case it's one of the big CONs for me.
