I chose this small kit for my little granddaughter because I wanted something sturdy, non-plastic but small to store. Granddaughter's eyes lit up when she opened this gift. She immediately began hammering the peg 'nails' into the holes in the toolbox - so its function was obvious to her, and the sizing for little hands is perfect. I think she will find it frustrating before long that she can't actually construct very much with it, but it's a great start for developing co-ordination skills. The kit is nicely coloured in a mix of natural and primary colours. Everything is very sturdy, except the spanner, which seems a little flimsy. The screwdriver fits well into the screw slots.A couple of the peg holes in the toolbox were left with a splintered finish which had to be sanded off - unacceptable in any product, and especially in a small child's toy, but not a deal-breaker given that it was easily rectified and the child loved the kit so much. The screwdriver handle had a slightly rough, not polished, feel to it,but nevertheless no lurking splinters. Had all elements been properly finished, I would have given this kit 5 stars.

I absolutely L O V E wooden toys.I chose this for my Son as we had to go to a fancy dress party and he was still a little to young to get a full fancy dress constume for.he went as a little builder. I got him some faded jeans and work boots and a little yellow hard had and I thought if he wont keep the outfit on for the party at least I have wasted money on a costume and he still has a really cute toy at the end of it.This turned out to be wise decision as he did NOT want to keep with hat or boots on at all. but he did sit and play with this tool box for hhours. He is still a little young as the instructions say 3plus but as long as I am watching him it seems fine.I love wooden toys and thisis really well made and very cute and colourful.

We bought this for our 2 year-old and it was a huge hit. Several huge hits in fact. Perhaps too many hits by the end of the day. Everything is nice and sturdy. The wooden peg nails can be driven in with quite a wallop, but still removed easily. It includes a nice simple selection of tools that should see some value as a young child grows up, from simple banging of a hammer to more complexed actions like using the saw to separate Velcro wood and spanner to tighten the nuts. There are instructions to build basic structures like a boat or horse, but these do seem a little too advanced for the age group it is intended for.Only a very small complaint and still plenty of fun to be had chopping and banging.

Although there are not many pieces (e.g. only 2 'nails'), we have found that our toddler (19 months when bought it and now nearly 23 months) has played with this EVERY day since we got it for him. He loves the tools and has found different ways of playing with the various components. He couldn't screw the bolts into the 'nuts' to start with but has now mastered the 'turning' involved...he loves the size of the box and that he can load it up and carry it around the house. The tools have not broken even though they have been sorely tested! We will be getting him extra parts when he is old enough to actually try to make something. A good quality toy with good potential for free play.Very pleased.

This set is really robust and chunky, the wood is all smooth and it takes a real hammering (literally!). The bolts and screws have been bashed and biffed and they are still in near perfect condition after 2 months of being battered by my 3 year old boy. The bolts/nails can be quite tricky to remove from the box when they are hammered in, but a good pull gets them out. The screws/bolts are great, very tactile and easy to screw/unscrew. And my favourite is the saw and the 'wood' (the yellow blocks in the photo). They have velcro on them and when you put them together you can 'saw' them apart. My boy loves doing this. Definitely one to recommend, it's great value for what you get.

I bought this for my son's third birthday, didn't know what to expect as it was only £10 but really suprised at the quality of the product and the main thing is that my son loves it! He loves banging the nails/pegs in to the holes that are in the tool box great wooden sound not plastic, also the bolts and nuts have kept him quite for ages, the different colours of each item have helped him learn his basic colours really quick, my seven year old as enjoyed bolting the pieces together.Highly recommend it as I use tools all day in my job, and I knew my son wanted some of his own, great value and a great product will defiantly look at the other melissa & doug toys.

I bought this for my 18 month old son as he's an avid fan of builders and their tools. It's a nicely made toy that is painted in bold attractive colours. My son especially enjoyed walking around the house with hammer in screwdriver in hand, looking for any odd jobs that needed doing! The box itself holds all the tools very neatly so we always have it out without it causing too much mess. He's not played so much with it recently but I think it's probably more suitable for 2-3 year olds - definitely something he'll come back to again and again. I'd happily recommend it to any budding workmen!

Great toy for my 2-year-old. Our experience is different to some of the other reviews on here - the little wooden "nails" are supposed to only just fit in the holes so that you have to give them some welly with your little hammer for example! Our little boy loves it and specially enjoys taking it around with his daddy to help with the DIY. (I would love to say we weren't that gender-stereotypical a household but when it comes to DIY we are). Great that it is wood as well, just makes a contrast from having most things made of plastic. Would recommend for any toddlers.

I was surprised to receive this toy in the post so early it came within 2 days, 5 days before the estimated delivery time so just in time for my nephew's 2nd birthday. He loved the hammer and attempted to use the screwdriver just like he sees in the story books we read. The product is good, solid and durable and quite light. It's got lovely colours and will help develop his motor and hand skills once he gets used to using it. This toy is a good conventional alternative to all those noisy electronic toys with easy button pushing.

I am passed the age where a wooden tool kit brings the joy it might have done 70 years ago..but.. I know a wee boy ( my grandson..18months) who is a budding house builder and repairman. He absolutely loves this product and I can attest to its being everything a young craftsman/demolition man could possibly want! Also..it deflects his attention away from all available chairs, tables and other pieces, his parents would rather he left alone. Excellent toy for busy toddlers

This is a great toy that we bought for our 2-year old, but our 8-month old also loves the textures and shapes. The only complaint is that the glue used to keep the bolts together breaks easily. I have had to re-glue all of them back together within a couple of months of purchase. This was was easy to do with some decent carpenter's glue and a clamp, but I would expect a toy like this to be able to take a little more punishment. It is a tool box, after all...

Bought this for nephew at Xmas but our son the same age (2) also got the same set. I haven't given 5 stars as both sets had one or two pieces with splinters on, however, after removing the splinters they were perfectly safe. Both boys had great fun and my son has been helping his Daddy around the house as we have just moved so lots of DIY to do. I even managed to take a shower without him even realising one day!

We bought this for my daughter's 3rd birthday as she wanted a tool set like her Daddy, this is great! She loves to hammer, the pieces for hammering into the toolbox are sturdy and solid, I have no worries about it breaking like some other tools boxes we looked at. She's just getting the hang of the screwdriver/spanner so I think it'll keep her entertained for a long time yet. Would definitely recommend.

This is a nice little wood toolbox. The only rea negative is that the actual box part is rather small so trying to store all the tools and accessories is slightly annoying. Stuff falls out all the time. If the box was a little bigger, everything would fit properly. Other than that, my 2 yr old seems to enjoy this toy and it will maybe keep him busy for 20 mins or so at a time. Toy seems well made.

My 1.5 has already been playing with it for a couple of months and still loves it. Started with hammering the pegs out of the boards, but has recently learnt how to unscrew the nuts from the bolts and can do it one by one so patiently! Love how focused he is when playing (which has become a perfect after bath before bed time play for us). It's great, lovely colour and wooden! Get it!
