There are seven of these colourful little wooden figures – grandparents, parents, children and a baby. Each figure has a round wooden head, and wooden limbs with round wooden hands. The feet are big, which allows the figures to stand without any bother. The limbs are stiff but bendy, which makes it possible to create simple poses, such as walking and waving, and even sitting down. The heads are fixed though, which is our only disappointment with them. That said, they are very pleasant-looking figures, with happy little faces and bright cloth outfits and, being made of wood, they have a touch of traditional quality about them that plastic toys just don’t have. The adult figures stand about 5 inches tall (about 13 cm).The child figures stand about 4 inches tall (about 10 cm). They make excellent toys for small children. They are designed to go with wooden Melissa & Doug dollhouses (and furniture and other accessories), but they would of course be just as at home in any setting. We keep ours ready for visiting grandchildren, so ours live in a row beside the cookbooks in our kitchen.Melissa & Doug toys are very “in” at the moment in Italy - we’ve seen the whole range on sale in smart shops in Florence. The prices there are much higher than in the UK, so I’d say that in comparison the Amazon UK offering is pretty good value. We love these little people. They look great, they are made of traditional materials, and look likely to last a very, very long time.

I had never heard of Melissa and Doug before I saw this. A box of three generations of a happy family - Nanny and Granddad, Mum and Dad, the two children (Melissa and Doug?), and a sponge baby soon to be christened 'Bosh'. It might be fun for two year old Cassie. These characters are quite sturdy, with moveable legs and arms (something similar to thick pipe cleaner stuff allows this) but their actual feet, hands, head and torso are wooden, with the oversized feet giving them the ability to stand. Whilst the two oldest look the part in a red jumper and pink knitted cardigan, dad appears to be a mad professor with his receding hairline. The overweight baby in his/her yellow jumpsuit is attached to mum by a thread. Not that any of this is significant, as it's all in the 'playtime' use; and this has a lot.Okay, they may just be small dolls but Cassie was in a world of her own with these little people. As children of that age are wont to do, they were (and are) played with using a language no one but the narrator understands. And that's the beauty of this range; it gets their imagination going. You might not know what's going on, but they do.If it keeps them entertained, it's money well spent.

We are raving Melissa and Doug fans and always say to enquiring relatives at birthday and Christmas time 'anything from Melissa and Doug' would be great! Both our 4.5 and 1.5 year old have loved playing with these dolls. We already have an ELC wooden dolls house and they have both loved using these dolls in the house. But they have also played with them a lot in other locations. They made a perfect toy set to take with us on a picnic and occupied them for ages after the food was long eaten. The things I really rate are the bendy limbs and the large feet, which makes them stand up really easily. I also like the simple yet colourful clothes - very 'classic'. It's lovely to have the full set.Our girls particularly enjoyed their grandparents. I'm not sure how they knew they were grandparents since their own grandparents are far from this grey haired stereotype! Why 4 stars? Two reasons. 1)The baby is not the right size and was discarded in favour of their 'oh so cute' ELC Rosebud range baby. 2)There are visible glue blobs between the head and necks of the dolls. But on the whole, another classic Melissa and Doug classic.

It's great to find toys like these for pretend /small world play, realistically priced but still robust enough to stand up to hours of play in group settings such as registered childminders and nurseries. They are an ideal size for small hands, chunky enough for small children to be able to grip and pose limbs independently, without looking crudely made. They are absolutely perfect for use in a dolls' house, the poseability meaning they can sit as well as stand or lie down and be placed in different 'action' poses. The inclusion of older 'grandparent' figures gives further opportunities for talking to children about families and extending their knowledge and understanding. It can be difficult tofind toys like this outside specialist suppliers - a similar set of just four figures from an early years supplier retails at £21.99.However the specialists are able to offer Black and Asian family options too. It would be nice to have this set available in other skin tones as well - manufacturers please note!

This is the perfect family for a medium to large dolls house. They are poseable so they sit properly. The clothes and hair are attractive and they have a quality feel about them like most Melissa and Doug toys. My 3 year old was so happy when these arrived and they come displayed in a box with a section for each one so she could see immediately that she had the mum, dad, grandparents, two kids and a baby. The baby is like a yellow sponge with a head - my daughter loves this one best!I wouldn't recommend these for the smaller Melissa and Doug dollhouses but for any other medium to large size dolls house they are perfect.

These are lovely. My granddaughter (2 years 4 months) plays with these during her stays with us. I sing the "Little Finger" song to her and she finds the right person - Grampy, Nanny, Mummy, Daddy, Brother, Sister. They stand up well and are the right size for the second-hand dolls house I picked up, which is a bonus.I expect, with rough handling, they will take on damage - e.g. knitted hair unravel.Melissa & Doug is a brand I trustUPDATE: I have found that my fears of durability are not warranted. These have survived enthuiastic handling by more than one child.

This is a nice little traditional family set that fits well with other similar figures, though check heights first as some manufacturers make slightly larger dolls and accessories. The quality of manufacture is good with neat clothing and well painted faces. They are fully pose-able (except for the baby) and can be used in conjunction with many other toys.Though I think they're great my little boy hasn't played with them much, as he is much more into drawing at the moment. I feel like his pirates need someone to capture this weekend!

With similar smiling faces this delightful family of 7 dolls is a set of father, grandfather, mother, grandmother, father, mother, son, daughter and baby, and apart from the baby are between 4 and 5 inches tall. They have an old-fashioned ‘well-made’ feel, they are dainty but fairly robust, they stand readily, they have flexible limbs, and they are nicely dressed with colourful clothing fixed on which is probably a good thing as dolls tend to get ‘stripped’! These dolls are going to give my youngest grandchild hours of pleasure.

Oh, W O W !!! What a glorious selection of wooden dolls. Children will love this set of Mum, Dad, Granny, Grandad, boy, girl and baby. The games they will be able to play using just the dolls and their imagination are boundless. Exactly what the modern parent/grandparent would want kids to play with to counter the advances of computers/tablets/smartphones.I have recommended quite a number of goods during my years of reviewing, but this HIGHLY RECOMMENDED item is right at the topAges 3+

Perfect little people to go with the Melissa & Doug house we also got. Very basic, but easy to play with, and each one was allocated to be someone in the family. We also got the Melissa & Doug car that came with extra people also. The people are 2 or 3 years old now, and only recently started becoming a bit worse for wear.

Love these. Typical of the lovely Melissa and Doug products....good quality and perfect for the job. I posted one on my Facebook account as it bears a likeness to get me of my child's friend's dad to share the joke but actually I got a few people asking me where I goth them, including a nursery school teacher.

This is a great family of dolls for children of either gender to play with; my three year old niece and her six year old brother have had lots of fun playing with this doll set. Packaging and presentation box is perfunctory - but hey ho, this will be discarded immediately. Highly recommended.

Nice family of a good quality. Glad I purchased these dolls, they come in a box which can also be used to store them. I took them in for my class of thirty five year olds to play with, and was pleasantly surprised that they weren't broken!Would recommend.

This wooden doll family is perfect for hours of imaginative play. The set is comprised of a grandfather and grandmother, mother and father, two children and a baby. The dolls are very nicely made and have good quality, colourful clothes.
