I bought this for my daughter (age 2) and I have been seriously impressed with this toy, which was very popular even when she was ill and disinterested in almost everything. I suspect any fan of Goldilocks would very much approve and it would be suitable for girls and boys alike. This is a simple puzzle, but the range of pieces with 5 different faces, tops and bottoms for each bear, gives plenty of scope for dressing them and telling stories. I can see we will get plenty of mileage from it. As it's wooden, it's robust and should withstand a lot of play. The 45 pieces fit neatly in the box, divided into three compartments - one for each bear. The board slides on top as a lid,so it's a good toy for travelling and easy to pack away. I also prefer that it is not linked to a particular TV character because I will have enough problems when Peppa Pig falls out of favour. The only things to you need to be aware of are (and here I echo the view of one or two other reviewers):- The pieces are wooden but, I think, the images are printed on paper and stuck on. Not good for children who nibble on their toys.- The five expressions show, very roughly: sleep; happiness; sadness; anger and shock/surprise. This is obviously great for teaching about emotions (particularly using the Goldilocks story) but if you are selecting a face at random, your bear will probably be having a bad day. I would have preferred another positive emotion, possibly where they are laughing or something.Very good value for less than a tenner!

I bought this for my two year old daughter based on previous reviews and I was not dissapointed. We now own a few Melissa and Doug toys, and the quality is always fantastic and the designs great for open ended play.I was originally worried that my daughter would become frustrated at trying to fit the clothes of daddy bear into the recesses for mummy bear and so on, but she picked it up very quickly. She adores dressing the bears, and then changing their facial expressions from angry to sad to happy to asleep. This gives me the opportunity to discuss emotions with her, which is helpful as we are in the middle of the terrible two's! She has even started matching the clothes now,and will happily play quietly with this toy for a long time. The only small complaint I would have is that although this is a completely self contained toy with a lid, sometimes it is difficult to fit all of the pieces back in. This does frustrate my daughter, who likes to tidy away herself, and I do have to rearrange the pieces. This is a very small gripe however regarding a fantastic toy and wouldn't put me off purchasing it again.

The reason I'm disappointed in this product is because the clothes aren't clearly defined. Sometimes it can be an overall top with a t-shirt, sometimes a dress top, a t-shirt, a sweater, often you will have more than one item of clothing in the same puzzle piece. The legs will always be whatever bottom (skirt, trousers, shorts) with whatever footwear (socks, shoes etc). That's fine if you just want to play, but I bought it as an educational thing to help my son with his speech delay. He's never wanted to play with it, it hasn't really caught his attention and I think part of the reason is that. The faces are all great, you have many different expressions with lots to talk about, but despite that we haven't really played with it at all. Quality-wise it's great. The pieces are sturdy and if you arrange them correctly you can fit them all in the provided box without having loose bits on top.

I bought this for my 2 year old who loves it. She started off just putting random pieces together but now makes whole outfits for the 3 bears. The illustration around the box are very helpful and is has learned to follow these. My 10 and 8 year old niece and nephew also love playing with this so I can see it still being used for quite some time to come.In terms of educational value its fantastic, lots of opportunities to talk about sizes, colours, facial expressions, different clothes, suitable clothes. It can be played with independently or with other. The only down side to it is there are so many pieces its hard to fit them all back in the box once they have been played with but I would highlyreccommend this to anyone.I saw this same game being sold in a well known toy shop for a much higher price than this, so get yours from amazon.

I was given this gift yesterday for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She was really interested in it, and I can see we will have hours of fun and discussion. However, I discovered that there should be 5 sets of clothing for each bear (mummy, daddy and baby), but in our set there were 9 sets for mummy bear and only 1 set for daddy bear. I gave the customer services team a phone call (I think I was transferred to America), and without any hassle or needing to provide proof of purchase, the customer service team have arranged to immediately send out the daddy bear clothes. I was very surprised at how easily this problem was resolved, and as a result will now look further into the Melissa and Doug range as not only is this particular item great fun,but I know that any problems I may encounter with future products will be swiftly resolved.

I bought this a couple of months ago when my daughter was 19 months old. Even though this is apparently for 3+ my daughter is quite advanced and is already talking and doing jigsaw puzzles so I hoped she would enjoy it. I am so glad I bought it as it is one of her favourite toys and she always rushes to play with it when we come home. She mastered putting the pieces in pretty quickly and now likes to give the bears matching outfits and matching faces. She is particularly enamoured with their nightclothes and sleeping faces often telling me 'Big bear is sleepy all bears sleepy'. It is very sweet watching her talk about what they are wearing and what mood the bears are in.All in all this is fantastic value for a toy that keeps her occupied for hours on end.She never seems to get bored of it.

Melissa & Doug have done it again with this updated version of a jig saw. How many parents have bought a jig saw just to see the pieces either lost or the box gets crushed so there is no where to put the pieces. Well this one has remedied those problems. It's a wooden box with three bears on the lid. The lid slides easily on and off. The box contains all the pieces needed to cloth the Bears and change their faces, to help my 2 1/2 year old grandson I usually put all the corespondent pieces in the box compartment bellow the bear so he doesn't have to go searching all the box for the bits he knows they are just underneath that bear. This will never date and I cannot see it braking very easy. When my grandchildren have finished with it I will save it for their children.

I work in a nursery and we have the single bear version of this puzzle. I am buying the whole bear family because Mr Bear is such a popular toy. One little boy in particular who is very bright but has had some problems relating to other childrens' emotions, plays with it constantly, talking to himself about the bear's expressions and feelings and the reasons why he is feeling sad or happy 'Now he's a worried bear, he's worried because it's snowing...I know, I'll put his warm scarf on, now he's wearing his happy face', he says, or 'now he's got his happy face on because he loves his nice red jumper'. I think he and others will be overjoyed to have a whole bear family to dress and analyse the 'emotional'interactions between the bears!

I bought this for my 2 and a half year old before a trip, not sure how she would engage with it. She adores it, and she has surprised us with the depth of how she engages with the bear's different emotions, clothes by temperature or activity, and imaginary play between mama bear, daddy bear, and baby bear. It has been a real hit. The fact that it tidies up so nicely is excellent too. A bit of the box chipped off recently creating some splinters which really surprised me, but it has gotten some hard playing and by and large looks like new. I expect to give this to a grandchild some day. Really worth the price. I highly recommend this set. In fact,it has converted me wholeheartedly to Melissa and Doug toys.

This toy is brilliant. My son loves it. There is a very large number of overall possible combinations. My only wish on the toy itself (as opposed to durability) is that the teddy faces had more 'happy' combinations - there is only one of each for 'happy' bear. With regards to durability, I have concerns as to how long the surface printing (which appears to be on paper) is likely to last, as my son (not unreasonably for an 18 month old boy) has started to chew the pieces.Whether you like 45 small pieces of wood spread around the house (although at least there is a box to put them in!) is something to consider.Overall, recommended, with reservations as to durability.

24 month boy loves this. I wanted to purchase just the single bear puzzle as thought 3 bears might be too complex but my toddler completely gets this and plays with it several times a day. He enjoys trying the different combinations on baba, mama and dada, and I enjoy listening to his thought and conversation whilst doing it. It comes in a handy wooden box with a lid, divided into three sections for each bears outfits. The lid is the puzzle part that fits the faces and clothes. The bears has several facial expressions which will be good for story telling and learning emotions. Looking forward to using it for travel and restaurants when life resumes.

We bought these as a present for our grandaughter's 2nd birthday. She loved them! She enjoys puzzles and loves changing the clothes on the bears. They come in a relly sturdy wooden box which keeps all the pieces together when not in use. Lid serves as a tray with cut out shapes to put the bears together on - very useful! Would have liked them to be a little bit bigger to make it easier for small hands to manage, but she copes ok. Big brother liked them too! We've bought Melissa & Doug toys before and think they are lovely. They are very hard wearing, brightly coloured, lots of educational opportunities, and most importantly lots of fun!

This wooden toy has a tray with holes for Mummy, Daddy and baby bear. The tray slides out to reveal the box with the wooden pieces underneath. Each bear has three sections - head, body and bottom. I bought this as a christmas present when my daughter was 18months. Each face had a different expression and I found this toy was brilliant for teaching emotions - sad, happy, tired angry. My daughter perhaps didn't have the best dress sense but she has spent hours playing with this toy, still pulling it out age 3 to play with. It is small and easy to travel with. I have taken it away with us a couple of times. I would recommend this toy

My granddaughter aged two and a half loves this product. It's the most played with Christmas present. It gives her the opportunity to make decisions about what the bears wear. As they all have different fittings she has to make sure she chooses the correct items for each. It teaches on so many levels and is good fun. It comes in its own wooden box with seperate compartments for each bear. Good quality wooden pieces which have survived being chewed on by a teething baby. So pleased I brought it and will be looking for something similar for her next learning stage. Would highly recommend.

I am really impressed by this wooden dress up toy. It's simple yet innovative and enthralling. It's very much a parent/child interaction toy and my son listens intently when I create situations for the family "oh, daddy bear is happy. Mummy bear looks tired let's put on her nightie. What do you think baby bear should wear today?". It's fun to help develop tiny imaginations. As my toddler is a bit delayed I thought he would struggle but he even picked up pieces and attempted to put them together himself. A real worthwhile investment despite the fact it seems overpriced.
