Good points: it's well made and sturdy (has been dropped a few times on a hardwood and tilee floors and no splinters or cracks). The poseable wooden dolls are very sweet and in different coloured clothing to match the colours of the doors. The doors are numbered and 4 different colours to encourage development in these areas and the doors each have their own little doorbell which play individual noises. Great for role playing, encouraging colour and number recognition and dexterity.Negatives: the keys for the doors are all different shapes and not the easiest to open. My daughter is probably a little young for this to use it properly (she's 2) and she doesn't have the ability to recognise which key belongs to which lock. That said, even older children would find manoeuvring the keys a little tricky. I tend to leave the doors unlocked so my daughter can play freely with it without it causing her frustration. The other very minor niggle is that the door bell chimes are extremely quiet and if there is other background noise in the house you can barely hear it. Some people may consider this a plus point though...

Found this really amazing toy for my ASD 5 year old son in the US while on hols there for the last 3 weeks. It has 4 doors, all numbered, with 4 different door bells (both in looks and sounds) and 4 little people inside (one for each little home/door) and 4 different locks, one for each door. It has a bunch of keys attached to a black strap (thus long enough to reach all the doors). My son is somewhat obsessed with doors, numbers, colours, locks and doorbells so this toy literally ticked all those boxes. If you have an ASD kiddie who likes these things too or a kid who needs help with fine motor coordination, I highly suggest trying this as it also helps with fine motor coordination to get the keys in the doors. It's been a fantastic buy. You need to put 2 AAA batteries in it which don't come with the toy so don't forget to get some if you're buying it.I only take one star off because the picture print that's stuck onto the ply wood is rubbing off on the edges (see my last picture) and we have only had it a week. He had it in his lap most of the time so it wasn't dropped at all or played with roughly.

My son has a fascination with shutting doors/gates so thought he would enjoy this. It is a beautiful wooden house, with a different front door on each of the four sides. Each ' home' has a beautifully painted exterior and wooden doll whose outfit matches the colour of the door. Each home also has a different sounding doorbell and a keyhole to be unlocked with one of the included keys. The keys hang from a sturdy black strap which is attached to a handle on the roof of the house. This is a stunning toy, quite unusual but remarkable in every sense of the word. Absolutely amazed by this toy. My son is aged just 2 so the keys are a little fiddly for him at the moment and I have to unlock and lock up the houses but this is one of his favourite toys, bought for his birthday. I did wonder if it was a bit of a girl's toy but when you think about it, why shouldn't a boy have one? After all, boys live in houses too :)

This was bought as a gift for our Nephew. He was turning 2-years old. We'd previously bought one for our own Daughter when she was a similar age, and she still plays with it now at 6-years old.It has 4 little wooden dolls who each have their own 'house' - a doorway. They all have a doorbell which has different sounds and there are 4 keys attached to a strap to unlock the dolls doors. My only complaint, and it hasn't really been an issue, was that the strap holding the keys is a little too short (although I understand the reasons for keeping this a certain length. It just means you have to make sure that the strap is pulled to the side of the handle of the door you want to unlock. Again, not a huge problem but does cause a little bit of frustration for inpatient toddlers! If you're looking for a gift that will provide entertainment for a few years, this is definitely a good option.

This product has provided hours of fun for my son and has really helped his fine motor skills and number recognition. We like to hide other objects behind the doors to vary the game . It is very portable and has many trips to restaurants and grandparent houses. Highly recommend for children who love intricate toys that are not too tricky to master but can engage your child's concentration long enough for uninterrupted cups of tea !When I received the house it had two sets of no 4 key . I rang amazon customer services and spoke to a very friendly and helpful employee . As an amazon prime member a replacement house was sent out that same day.I received an email with a return label and sent the item back through the post office was so simple and efficient ! Highly recommend the amazon customer service just the protection and efficiency you need.

Very nice little house for my toddler to play with and learn. It has 4 doors with different numbers and different shaped keys. Good for problem solving and matching numbers. It comes with 4 characters with different colour tops on to match the doors, although the doors can fit many different items in there... Such as peppa pigs, bing toys and plenty of stones that keeps the young one happy! The doors have different sounding door bells on each one. Although sometimes the doorbell button gets stuck a couple of times (this isn't really an issue, it's more the young one being a bit heavy handed!)All you have to do is ring the door bell, Open the door, put the character in and lock the door behind you!Sounds simple but keeps them entertained for quite some time! We'll worth the money in my opinion.

This is a very well thought out product. The little house has a carry handle for small hands. Each door which is a different colour has a corresponding doll in colour matched clothing. Each door has a different key and a different shape and sound for the door bell. The ribbon holding the keys is firmly attached but reaches each of the doors so no danger of the keys getting lost or put into tiny mouths and swallowed. There is a small challenge in sorting which key goes into which lock but that is appropriate for developing small minds let alone adult ones. The door bell sound is not too loud - thank goodness. Overall it is well made, good quality and utterly delightful.I bought it for my two year old Grandson and it has proved popular amongst his other toys.

Very impressed with the size, its quite big. It has a handle on the top so small children can carry the house around as its not heavy at all. The wooden people are good quality and fit in the house easily. The wooden doors are easy to open. The sound on the door bells on each door is of medium sound, it can be heard well when pressed. The keys are of a good size too perfect for little fingers and they fit in the key hole easily and the turning mechanism has an easy turn motion for small hands as not to leave the child frustrated. Has plenty of educational value i.e technology skills, role play. The paint work on the house is beautiful. We have a few of Melissa and Doug products as we like the quality.Overall an excellent product.

This is a good product and fulfills my toddler's obsession with doors, locks, keys and doorbells perfectly! However, it loses a star as I agree with some of the other reviewers who mention the locks are plastic yet the keys and hinges are metal, it's a shame the locks aren't metal too, to be a bit more robust. Also like other reviews my house was not 'perfect' a few little scratches and blobs on the artwork. It wasn't bad enough to send back and I know within the hands of a toddler it will soon have a few knocks but I worry a little about how good it will still look in the long term! A great idea for a toy though for toddlers and would make an excellent present if you were not sure what to get,I've never seen one before!

My 19 month old has been going through a "key" and "ding dong" phase so I couldn't believe it when I found this! The keys are tricky but keep her concentrated a fair while, the door bells are good except we have one that has never worked. Remember which has become a fun game though. The little people are very pleasant. Ours have been named John-Jay and Doreen (yes, all of them and no, no idea where she got the names from!)I love that the toy is not plastic but still light enough for her to carry around. The metal of locks etc is really impressive and great for teaching her about textures. My partner who is and nursery teacher agrees that it's a brilliant learning tool.We can't praise it enough!

I actually bought this well over a year ago. My daughter was only 1 at the time, she's now 3 and still plays with it, as does her younger sister. Fab concept. They love the doorbell noises and opening and closing doors. The locks are tricky, but that's part of what keeps them interested. Only criticism is its edges could be a hazard. I dropped it on my foot once.... Ouch. So if a toddler fell on it, then it would hurt. Also, I didn't trust the look of the little people. My kids would be able to pull them apart easy enough (chocking hazard) so I chucked them and used Lego block figures that were safe. But a fab toy, still loads of life in it, can see it lasting a few more years yet.

My 3-yr old granddaughter loved this house. Even after endless Christmas toys, she sat and played with this non-stop for over an hour on her 3rd birthday in early January. It has 4 keys with numbers matching the numbers on the doors, and 4 separate key designs requiring some serious dexterity. The 4 people figures were locked in and unlocked into the 4 compartments over and over. What a delight. Even before we inserted the batteries she loved locking and unlocking the doors. When we added the batteries she was delighted all over again to hear the four distinct doorbell sounds. Her mother asked which sound she liked best, and she said "all of them." A definite A+

My 3 year old received this toy for her 3rd birthday and has really loved it, as have her 4 and 1 year old brothers! It is great that it comes with the people so you can put them behind each door and find them, then of course they love the different doorbell noises, especially the one that sounds just like ours! It is a sturdy wooden toy and my only gripe is that it is a real shame that the locks on the door are made from plastic (the hinges and keys are metal) so I am not sure how long the actual lock will last as they are already showing signs of 'wear' after just 2 months from enthusiastic placing of keys in them, which is surely half the appeal of the house!

This is a fantastic item. It was purchased for our daughter who's 8. She spotted it in a toy shop and put it on as her main present from Santa. So obviously we had to purchase it. We know it is a tad young for her but she is OBSESSED with keys and locks... This is why she had to have it. Well the item is extremely well made. All the little dolls fit lovely into their own little home. The keys will not get lost as they are on a lead which is ideal... They are numbered for ease... And the doorbells are not too loud that they will annoy the parent. My daughter spent most of Christmas day playing with it. She is extremely happy and so are Mammy and Daddy!

My son is obsessed with doors and keys and opening and closing and putting staff in and out and so go on for hours! That's why it is such a smart toy. It combines everything, I love Melissa and Doug toys and I am always happy with them. I would definitely recommend this toy house. My son is 19 months old and he carries it around the house all day! I put 4 stars just because the quality could be just a little bit better. One door won't close from day two, but as I said my son plays a lot with it so maybe he hit it somewhere... But it is a great toy after all and I am thinking on buying one more for grandparents house back in Greece! ;)
