This playset is perfect for children who love fairies, magic and imaginative play. It's so detailed and lovely: just the kind of toy to create a little fantasy world that encourages magical playtime. While there's a question mark over the practicality of a toy which involves soil being used indoors, it shouldn't ruin what is still a sweet and engaging idea in the right hands. The cute characters included are adorable, and there are little spaces for them to live in and hide. The house itself is of a lovely design which, with the addition of batteries, lights up with a soft glow when activated.Planting and growing the grass seeds can be a messy affair that you may not want inside your house; it might sound obvious, but grass grows quickly and that means cutting it, not to mention the actual filling of the base with soil in the first place. One of those 'great in principle, not so much fun for the parents' innovations, I'm afraid. But don't let that spoil what is, in essence, a beautifully styled and well-made item that's part toy, part craft project and if the child is of the right disposition, it could make for a great gift or treat.

Unicorns and fairies are very much in vogue among girls under 10 these days. Most will be attracted to this little house, its garden and all its fairie paraphernalia. The house ( a mushroom) is home to fairies Heather and Elvie. The house itself is also bedroom night light which lights up magically when you blow through the window. The light operates off 2 AA batteries (not supplied). When in light mode the house also plays soothing harp music. The grass in the garden is real and like any lawn the grass seed has to be sown in soil (the messy bit) and the lawn tended which adds an educational element to the set.Along with the two fairy figures the set includes their friends - a hedgehog and a unicorn. You also get coloured stones, fairy dust and flowers to decorate the garden and perform magic. The instructions for setting up are clear but I still found it a little bit fiddly and time consuming. The garden can be reconfigured as and when your child's mood wishes it. An unusual but captivating toy that will bring hours of pleasure .

Bought this for my 7 year old son. It is well presented in a sturdy box. The ties used to keep the unicorn and fairies in place in box (presentation) are thin rubber bands, easily cut.Initial thoughts :* quite a few bits, but quite thin plastic.* lots of different elements, which are quite fun and great for inquisitive minds.* nice colours* bit expensive for what is in it.* you need soil (not supplied)Building* really finicky, young children would never get this together on their own. So a little frustrating for my 7 year old. But he was happy getting the soil, scattering seeds and decorating. I had to put the things together (house, bottom part of house and doors)* fairy House needs 2 AAA batteries (not supplied)* needs soil (not supplied)You can arrange the fairy House as you like. Can be altogether in one pot, or have the bridge going away and the fairy House at the bottom.Just have to wait to see whether the grass grows, but he is happy with it thus far.

This is a very cute little set. It is not for smaller kids. I found some of the instructions a little trickier to follow but managed to do it in an evening. The whole thing pieces together quite loosely. This is possibly a good thing as you can get creative and revamp your garden to your wishes. It also means that your fairy house may fall apart if you are slightly too rough with it.You will need AAA batteries. I wish people supplied these! This makes the house light up and play music. This house is made of mostly plastic so I'm considering putting mine outdoors in a plant pot. Obviously then I won't be able to use the electronic part, but it is so cute. Another thing I love is all the accessories. You put it all together and there's one bag left, containing coloured stones, fairy dust, flowers etc. So so so cute. Also you will need real soil to grow the grass in.A strange, fun, and cute item.

My eight year old daughter is fascinated by unicorns (and fairies); she is also inquisitive about nature and likes to have a night light! This kit ticks all of the boxes. Soil / compost is required to use the supplied grass seed with an occasional watering (we use a small atomiser spray bottle). Two AAA batteries are required to power the 'blow-to-activate' nightlight and a gentle lovely twinkling sound. Growing the grass is optional in our opinion as the toy / light still holds its attraction for my daughter. With younger children I'd think carefully about where to site this unless you want soil over the floor. With regard to the growing medium I'd avoid soil from the garden as it's usually got something living,or about to hatch in it plus weed seeds; I'd suggest using compost which can be microwaved (have a search) to guarantee you only have grass seed growing in your child's bedroom!

My 3 year 7 month old sat next to me so patiently, watching while I built all the loose parts up and put the fairy garden together. She was completely enthralled with the toadstool house and the fairies that came with it. Her favourite part is blowing in to the window and making the light go on and off and making the tune play. She is so happy that she is doing "fairy magic".It was all self explanatory how all the bits fit together. It looks great, feels sturdy and well made and feels like it will last well.I think the grass seeds that are included are a lovely touch and will definitely be grown when she gets that bit older and we know it won't get knocked off the shelf. We can't use the bunting prop and the flowers yet as these are fixed in the dirt, but there is still plenty to play with.

Two children, aged ten and eight tested this product. I must say that upon opening the product I was not impressed. However the kids seemed quite keen and couldn't wait to get the garden all set up. They were disappointed that there was no compost/soil included in the box as the shops were not open so the setting up had to wait till the next day. There needs to be a note on the box saying soil/compost required. Once the garden was set up both girls were thrilled with it particularly with the blow on/off lights. Within one week the grass had grown to a good length and the girls have been texting me photographs of the garden at all its different stages. I was surprised at the care and attention they have given the garden, they love tending to it, trimming the grass etc. I would recommend.

This Fairy Garden is a really lovely idea and works so well in many ways. The components are really robust and well-made and the concept is really simple. My niece is 3 and she loves this, it’s engaging to put together (comes with everything apart from the soil) she simply loves the fairy’s and hedgehog and can’t stop talking about them, as the grass grows its changing all the time which is educational and has sparked a new interest in plants and flowers. The night light works perfectly as the garden is on her bedside table. This product is really well presented and because it’s quite different it’s not the sort of thing that will get doubled up on at Christmas or birthdays,it’s a lovely unique gift.

This is a delightful set. It comes in pieces ready to build. You get a good sized bowl in which you put some soil ( not included ) and sprinkle on the grass seeds. You can then build the toadstool house with a bridge to the garden The house lights up when you blow into it and plays a little tinkling tune. ( you need 2 x AAA batteries ) The whole thing is lovely perfect for Fairy believers. The pieces are made from a tough plastic and you also get some little figurines. There are pieces such as flowers and beads which can make the completed fairy garden individual. When completed it makes a delightful night light. Our granddaughter is 8 and she absolutely loves it.

Our small daughter absolutely loves this Fairy Garden playset, It's great as it needs some practical effort (you fill a bowl with soil and plant the supplier grass seeds in it, then put the house on top); as well as the house, there are lots of other pieces to play with. The fact that the house also acts a nightlight is great, especially as you can just blow on it to turn it on! The only small downside is that the set doesn't include batteries, but other than that it's a really good thing that our daughter thinks is brilliant; I can't see her getting tired of it any time soon.

Our nieces (7 & 8) absolutely loved this Fairy Garden playset, maybe because they have been enjoying their gardening this summer and part of the set up involves planting the grass to sit the house in. We have had similar sets before, the pot from which is still housing plants in the garden but the children no longer play with. The fact that the house also acts a nightlight and plays music is an added feature and makes it more exciting, especially as you can just blow on it to turn it on! Any fairy would love to live here I am sure. Batteries not included.

This lamp has really captured the "fairy" spirit and will add a true level of enchantment to a child's bedroom. The product is easy to put together and feels very solid/robust. The additional figures of flowers and fairies are sturdy and add an ethereal touch. Where the magic really happens is in the lamp itself which can be blown upon to create light and which also plays a little tune.A really nice touch is the inclusion of grass seed, which further sets this product apart from a standard light for children.I would highly recommend!

This was lovely to put together with my youngest. She loved watching the little garden come to life with the toadstool house and accompanying fairies. She loves the fact that if she blows, the candle in the window lights up.....a bit of childhood magic going on!!The set is simple yet a lot of thought went into creating a tiny world that would spark little imaginations. The grass seeds are a nice bonus, so we can't wait to watch the grass grow and really bring the set to life.
