I decided to buy two sets of letters and two sets of numbers and the abacus too but for some reason I could only buy one set of numbers and letters. I get the whole rationing thing with food but with letters and numbers!? Strange but with no school at the moment wouldn't we want to teach our children more and get them to eat less. What a world we live in. Anyway, I'm sure its a stocking issue but it still seems odd to me. Anyway, on to the products. We bought a set of letters previously and thought we would get a couple of sets of each numbers and letters, an abacus and a magnetic whiteboard to "teach" our 3 year old at "school" as she doesn't go currently due to the pandemic. It worked, was fun and as she already had a small table and chair we set up a classroom and we got her to interact with the whiteboard. This is now a daily thing and she loves "school!!" We like Melissa and Doug's toys but my one frustration is "Made in China" why!! You have a UK brand, children, learning and fun. I'd rather pay more and buy British so I was a bit disappointed as there are cheaper out there obviously from the Far East. If we keep making this about money we won't have any industry left in the UK, this is nothing against China but we are being swamped and are in real danger of being run from afar. We need to be less obsessed with cost and care more about where we buy our goods from otherwise there are countries that will have all our money and we will be looking for landfill abroad too.

I like the artwork on these as it is friendly without being too cartoony when teaching kids about animals and their names. There are a nice selection of wild and domesticated animals from various parts of the world. There are no separate magnets to break off and get lost or choked on, just a magnetic layer across the whole of each shape. The magnet is just strong enough to give good placement on a fridge without being difficult for little hands to pick off and move around. Good for toddler play but not really up to being used to hold papers and such.Negatives: The box has no lid that will actually hold the magnets in if it is tipped. It just comes with a thin bit of plastic that lies on top. This is a real pity as the box could be an attractive feature. Also, the magnets themselves are just stickers/wood/magnetic layers glued together with no overall protective coating. They probably won't survive getting wet or rough handling so that's something to be aware of. Both of these are obviously cost-cutting measures but I'd happily pay 50% more for a set with these features.

There are 20 magnetic-backed wooden painted animals in this set - 7 wild animals and 10 farm animals, also a frog, fish and turtle. Our 2 year old grandson loves them and we really like the fact that they are all quite easily recognised animals so he is learning all the names and the sounds they make, and we take it in turns to take animals away and guess who is hiding. The magnetic back is flat so there is nothing that can become detached. The animals are both colourful and realistic, and they are a perfect size for small hands - not too small. They work well on our magnetic/dry wipe board (see photo) and also on the fridge etc.The set is good value for the price but there are two ways it could be improved - first there is no lid for the wooden box which is a pity.Second, if the figures had been made with straight rather than curvy bases you could also use them to make freestanding set ups in addition to use on magnet boards.

My little one loves magnets and spends ages playing with the magnets on her great-grandma's fridge every time we visit so I decided to buy her some of her own. This set is lovely - it's a well made wooden set with the magnet covering the whole of the back of each piece so no worries about small magnets falling off and being put into mouths. It has a good selection of different animals and my daughter has enjoyed naming them. They're a good size for her little hands to manage and have certainly had my money's worth out of them so far. Only slight issue is that the little wooden box that they come in doesn't have a lid on so might not be great to store them in - not an issue for us though as the magnets live on our freezer so we don't use the box for storage. An excellent purchase!

I bought these magnets to amuse our son whilst I'm in the kitchen i.e. to tempt him away from cupboards/drawers/oven/bins and I have to say they are lovely quality. The picture on the fronts though is stuck-on paper, but we've had them for around 2months now and nothing has begun to peel off yet although I do try to stop my son from biting them in the hope they will last longer. It is a shame that you can't put them back in the box for storage as the box they are packaged in doesn't have a lid which I feel would improve the product and give it another dimension as my son loves putting things into boxes and shutting them up and then tipping them out again. We play point to the animal and he seems to love looking at them and all the bright colours. All in all would recommend.

I bought two sets of these so we could spell letters with more than one 'd' or 'm' in them. Brilliant quality letters, very robust and lovely bright colours. The colour of the lower case letters matches the capital which is great for then the child is matching lower and capitals. The wooden box they come in is excellent- robust and with a nice thick plastic lid that slots into the box.The only drawback/down side to this product is the formation of some of the letters. For example the lower case i and j have the dots almost fully merged onto them and the 'l' (lower case L) just looks like a stick. I would still recommend these letters to anyone and my son is not bothered by the merged dots,he still recognises the letters for what they should be.

Fabulous for helping my almost 4 year old with writing and spelling. She has been able to write her own name by herself for a while so recently I decided it was time to teach her some more letters and sounds before she starts full time school. She now recognises and can write her name, her brothers name, mami and dadi. These magnetic letters will now help her learn her letters and sounds and begin her journey in learning to read. Only reason I knocked off one star is because the letter “c” arrived damaged. Other than that, I’m very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend to other parents. I also love that it comes in its own little box to help keep things tidy and organised.

Lovely magnets- great for keeping little ones entertained whilst in the kitchen. The animals on the magnets are lovely clear and bright. All of differing sizes showing the elephant to be big and turtle small for example. Could use on the fridge or on a magnetic white board. Bought for my 11 month old, I imagine she will play with them in different ways as she gets older. For example now she will just pull them off and stick them back on, but when she gets older she can use them to associate with the animal sounds, organise them, put them in size order, match colours, etc.

We just received the magnets and both me and my little boy really like them. They are very nicely made. Lots of them, nice bright colors, very realistic images so its easy for my little one to recognize his 'moos' and 'woaw woaws' ;D - he got very excited as soon as he discovered the dog magnet! They all went up straight on the fridge. Also there is a little wooden box they come in. Its a shame there is no cover so they can be stored when not in use - that's why only 4 stars. I love the old fashioned feel about them and Im sure my son will play with them for a long time.

The magnet stickers are made with attention to detail and good quality, the animals are perfectly imaged with bright and nice colours. They stick pretty good on our whiteboard, fridge and other ferromagnetic surfaces. The size of the stickers vary depending of the animal, form 3 cm for a fish up to 15 cm for a giraffe for example. The storage box has unlike the ABC and 123 set no proper lid for unknown reasons. Cannot tell much about durability as item has arrived only one week ago but I am sure the pieces will not resist bites for long.

My 2year old loves them, loves when we play "what animal...animal noises",and our 8 month old finds them fun, first thing he goes to nearly every morning, fridge to play with his magnets, will definitely be buying more from them, magnet covers full back of wooden animal which is perfect,we were worried about that as alot of others we've previously bought only had a small dot magnet, and the item out weighed the piece,so he was always disappointed when they slid down f/freezer and stay were he wanted to put them,SO WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND:)

These are well made wooden magnets. The upper case letters are a decent size and the lower case letters are in perfect proportion. These letters are easy for little fingers to manoeuvre and stick and unstick to the fridge or other magnetic surface. They arrived in an attractive box with a sliding lid - that can be reused - repurposed or in this case filled up with small treasures. I will be buying these again as they would be perfect for a gift for birthdays etc. Well made- attractively packaged - educational but not lacking in fun .

Having previously purchased other items in this range, I knew they would be perfect for my grandchildren's visits, however I WAS disappointed to find that, unlike the set of lower/upper case letters, the animal sets (I ordered both the farm and zoo animals), there is no slide-across perspex 'lid' for the lovely wooden box, meaning that storage needs to be in a different container (unless the pieces are to get lost in the toy box!) Frustrating (and disappointing) - but not a reflection on the actual item itself, which is brilliant.

Great selection of animal magnets. Not sure why it says that it's from 3 years up because the magnets are actually quite big. My 18-month-old daughter loves them, she recognises some of the animals already, and we're practising naming others. She loves putting the magnets on the fridge, rearranging them and then putting them under the fridge (which I hope is only a phase). They come in a neat wooden box, but with no lid, which is a shame. I think it's a great way to keep your little one occupied when you're in the kitchen.

As you'd expect a real quality product from Melissa and Doug. Who'd have thought that a middle aged man would be seriously impressed by a box of letters but they are great. Soooooo much better than those horrible plastic letters where the magnets fall out of the back. Even the box is a piece of design genius. Simple and attractive. They were also considerably cheaper than buying a tub of random lower case and a tub of random upper case from a well known high street Centres that focus on Learners of an Early disposition.
