Maybelline Master Contour Crayon is a thick crayon with half lighter colour to highlight and half darker color to shadow, used in the right way the two contour the face to achieve subtle differences in the facial shape and highlight features. Typically contouring means using the lighter colour to highlight cheekbones, forehead, along the middle of the nose, and the chin where the light would normally hit, then using the darker colour in the hollow of the cheeks to further highlight cheekbones, either side of the nose to narrow or hide bumps, either side of the under side of the chin, and either side of the forehead. After emphasizing the facial features you continue with a setting powder.Sticks like this can be better than contouring powders for creating a more natural look, as long as you can blend well and don't go overboard. When first receiving this stick I was a little concerned it looked too dark - I'm very pale so went for Number 1, Light - but if anything I think it was a little light for my skin. The stick is very soft and slightly oily in texture, although this doesn't make skin oily it instead helps to make application a little smoother. I'm still skeptical about having the half-half stick, surely when this wears down it's going to be harder to get the right colour in the right place, I still prefer products like

.. I learnt the contouring trick many years ago back in the 80s! (See kids, it's not new). The difference with today's products is that they are 'specifically' for contouring whereas back when I Was a youngster you would use dark foundation, highlighter and blusher to contour.I own a powder contour kit which is very nice, but quite big and cumbersome to carry around and of course powders break so easily. What makes this a winner in my book is that it is a double sided pencil which fits easily into your handbag or make-up bag. One side is dark and the other lighter to use as a highlighter. It's a little chunky double-sided pencil.Great size to fit in your make-up kit. It's best to use with a liquid foundation as it doesn't have very good results with minerals (which I usually use).It goes on beautifully, really smooth, and you can just blend this in with your fingers or with a foundation brush. It has decent staying power, and is best when set with a very light dusting of translucent powder.A friend of mine only uses contouring at night, because she says it's too 'obvious' but I disagree. Used properly and with a light touch this is actually really really good for daytime because it has a slightly oily consistency that gives luminosity to your skin.I really like this and it is now a daily basic in my make up bag.

I do like this product, its handy and not some big fancy contouring set to carry about but I found it severly lacking in how to use it.If like me, you are not exactly sure HOW to contour, it's basically just a stick with one side dark and one side light. I had to look up Google and a few You tube Tutorials to see how to exactly use it to contour so it would be really helpful if there were some instructions on it. Even smokey eye-shadows with 1 light and 1 dark have a small diagram on the back to tell you exactly how to apply and where on the eye.The Crayon itself, is smooth and definitely creamy in texture so it definitely doesn't go on cakey, blends really well and does look naturalish.I am more of a natural make-up wearer for everyday make up so while this is naturalish, I would only use it for going out when I spend a wee bit more time on my make up as this contouring stuff isn't easy or quick!Overall though, good product for what it does, compact against its competition of contour palettes and reasonably priced but needs better direction on how to use/apply and where especially for those who have never contoured and those who don't contour regularly.Cassandra220689

A friend showed me how to contour when I was at college (my father didn’t believe in makeup – “only bad girls and clowns paint their faces”).It is interesting how a light application of a slightly different shade of makeup can change your face shape – elongating a round face, adding cheek bones, removing sunken cheeks, adding/reducing jaw lines, smoothing/extenuating certain features, etc.Applying it and getting the desired result takes some practise but if you can master it the results can be well worth the extra time taken. This looks like a very thick lipstick and I applied it with a soft pad and a brush (which was how I was taught)the results were a smooth application of soft powdery colour which I blended into the base foundation.Being in a lipstick style tube is a great help – it means that I can carry it with me (the old contour powder used to be in a tub) and should the need arise for a touch up then I have the necessary with me.I’m very impressed with this “crayon” and the way it works.

I am not what you would call skilled at applying make up. Imagine if you would a woman, conscious of her appearance, and willing to try new cosmetic products in a vain attempt to somehow become fluent with the art of socially-acceptable disguise. Now imagine that woman is inebriated, and on a long haul flight suffering from turbulence. Her vain attempts to artfully apply cosmetics are about where my skill level sits. Between her, and a fashion conscious rhino making a mess in the smelly beauty section at Debenhams.I was curious about a product that would allow me to map out the contours of my face, like crag lines on an ordinance survey map.The product achieves this superbly well.It applies smoothly and neatly, and after watching dozens of online videos of women that are far better than me at this sort of thing, I achieved a look which did not scream Amateur Clown. Blended nicely, didn't fall off in the sweaty stress of rush hour trains, and doesn't clog pores.

Maybelline Master Contour Crayon Number 1 will help you refine, highlight – or conceal – your facial features and blemishes. It looks rather like a fat crayon, or lipstick, and is two tone; with one half of the crayon being a lighter, highlighting shade, with the darker side acting as an excellent concealer. The lighter, highlighting shade, can help pull features forward, while the darker, contouring shade, sculpts by creating shadows. This shade works well with my pale colouring and I really do think it is a ‘quick fix’ when you are out and about, which is easy to apply. As a basic guide, you should highlight the bridge of your nose, the middle of your forehead, under your eyes and chin. The darker shade is for the sides of the nose and under the cheekbones. Obviously, you can play around with this and experiment but, as I say, this is an excellent blemish concealer too and works well. Good quality and a real asset to your make up bag.

This is my first experience with a lipstick style foundation pencil. This looks like a chubby lipstick but goes on like a powder. As a highlighter using the paler side I found this to be rally effective and I loved the look. I think the darker side even applying really thinly is still too dark for me as I have a pale complexion and am very fair.It took me a while to get used to using this as it is a dual coloured crayon, one side being the lighter to use for highlighting and the darker on the other side. I think I need a lot more practise to achieve the fluid blending that comes with time. Perseverance will pay off eventually and I have used this under my eyes as a concealer and was reallyhappy with the result.Easy to grip the crayon but I think I might invest in a contouring brush for a more professional finish.

The colours in this product are well selected to get a good contour effect on light skin. However they are sandwiched together to make a fat crayon. So initially its fairly easy to apply using each side of the product, but it could become more difficult as the product wears down, especially if you use one colour more than the other. The product is soft and the colours easy to blend. To get more product you twist the bottom like lip stick. The product is quite chunky so easy to hold, and the transparent cap make it easy to identify in your make up bag.The label on the lid can be pulled apart with some difficulty to reveal the ingredients which include: ethyhexyl palmitate, methyl methacrylate cross polymer, nylon 12, silica, ozokerite, water, tocopherol, carpal glycol, propylene carbonate and other items

At first, I was sceptical of the idea of a contouring crayon. But I soon realised that I was misunderstanding the description of this product as a crayon. It's nothing like a crayon - it's not waxy, stiff or overly highly pigmented. It's actually very smooth, glide on product that has a soft Matt finish. It has a creamy highlighter one side, and a gentle contouring contrast colour to add definition. It's very easy to angle the application to choose either more highlight or more definition. In any event, blending with either a sponge or a brush is easy.I like the versatility, and the ease with which I can adapt and build up the product as needed. I like the finish and the effect.I just don't think of it as a crayon in the traditional sense.Recommended.

I’ve had a go at contouring a few times in the past with powders and I’ve ended up looking like a deranged clown, but I thought I’d try a final time with a cream instead.I really like this contour stick, it’s creamy consistency builds up really nicely and doesn’t leave you looking like a clown. It’s really easy to blend so you can be a subtle or as full on as you like. And it’s great value for money and small enough to fit in a handbag. The only thing I didn’t like so much was the fact that it’s a half and half stick. This meant that at times I’d end of with a bit of the opposite colour where I didn’t want it. So you have to be quite careful when placing the contour stick.Overall I think it’s a really nice addition to my make up bag.

I have just recently become aware of contouring and was delighted to try this product. The darker contouring shade is a good taupe colour and is very matt and matches shadows on the face in order to help contouring. It applied really easily direct from the stick and blended well. the lighter colour feels less of a highlighter as it is again matt and a highlighter would generally have some light reflecting particles in it.However as contouring is all about bringing forward areas using light make up and pushing back areas you are less happy with into shadows, both shades will do the trick. For the price this is an excellent starting point to see if contouring is for you and I would be happy torecommend it.

I love these crayons - so handy to highlight and contour your face on the move all in one crayon. I've used both this one and the medium shade and because I have a tan at the moment, this colour doesn't show up very well on my skin. Definitely one for porcelain skinned ladies.Highlight with the light side - top of nose, forehead, brow bones, eyelids, cheek bones and the triangle under your eyes, and also top of the lip and contour with the dark side giving definition to cheek bones, shading the side of the nose and giving fullness to the lower lip with a delicate shadow. Then brush lightly with a kabuki brush to blend without wiping it all away.An invaluable addition to my makeup bag.

This is a very creamy product and made so that it blends well into the skin. I applied the darker tone to the hollows of my cheeks and then a stripe of highlighter above that. I then gently smudged the product into my skin, working first with the darker tone and then the highlighter. It looks quite subtle unless you trowel it on! I would find the little oiliness of it an issue, as I have oily skin, and look more for powder or oil-free products. It would work better on a normal or drier skin, I think, but that's just my opinion. It does dry to a more matt finish. I can see a difference in tone after use, though.I think it's worth a try and good if you have chubby chops like me.

I wanted to try this crayon contourer as contouring is all the rage right now, and I see alot of people walking around with really obvious dark and light "stripes" on their faces. Not a good look.I was pleasantly surprised, the texture makes it easy to blend the darker colour on the sides of the cheeks and under the cheekbone, and get an easy grade into the highlight colour on the actual cheekbones. Adding the lighter colour to the upper brow wakes the whole face up. Really useful portable contouring product which would be great for holidays or day to day use.Pick the right colour though, this won't suit you if you are at all pinky toned or fair.

I had a few experience with other powder contours and I never understand how to apply them. I prefer to apply most of the products with my finger, so powder products was forcing me to use brushes but then I was having trouble to arrange the right amount. This contour is much more easier to arrange the amount and apply. One review I saw complains about the brighter colour getting run out of quickly. Well, it's not if you are using the right amount. If you wanna need one of the shade more than the other, then there is no option. This was not the case for me. It stays quite a long time till evening let's say. Then, obviously should need refresh.
