So a new Mario Tennis has once again graced our consoles, did Nintendo feel that we didn't have enough Mario this year with only Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wooly World on the shelves? Maybe they feel like Mario prints them money and they can half job a game out. This is what Mario Tennis feels like, a game simply thrown out near christmas with Mario on to make them some money. But don't get me wrong here, this is not a bad game at all. For a Tennis game the controls feel tight and I do love the button combinations in order to use different powerful shots, if you've played a previous Mario Tennis be it on the 3DS, 64 or Gamecube then you know what you have in store here.Character wise you have the usual cast of Mario,Toad, Yoshi and Peach and now including the likes of Rosalina and Dry Bowser , unfortunately old favourites such as Diddy Kong, Koopa Trooper and Birdo have been dropped leaving a roster that feels quite lacking considering the amount of titles in the series. Hopefully this will be rectified with free updates as we go along. There are a multitude of various modes in the game including a Mega Battle, focusing on the new Mega Mushroom feature that has one appear once in a while to help your progress, others include a Classic Mode and a Ball Rally mode. Unfortunately the Tournament mode has been scrapped in this one which personally I felt hindered the replayability for once you've played each mode a few times you've got your lot.Where the game really excels is of course the multiplayer and Mairo Tennis is a front runner, be it online or at home with friends the action is frantic, fun and sometimes borderline insanity, it's also the only time I actually felt the Mega Mushrooms actually HELPED improve the gameplay. Unfortunately online was short lived as after a handful of games I just couldn't find anyone else to play with :(Overall Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is a solid title in the line. HOWEVER. I really don't feel there is enough content at all to justify upgrading at this point in time. Aside from some Roster changes and a few small changes here and there there really is no difference to previous installments. But on the other hand. There really is nothing more fun than Smashing Toad in the face with a ball as you float around as Rosalina.

I was reluctant to make another purchase after having read some of the reviews on Mario Tennis, but in the end bit the bullet because I am a Mario fan and enjoyed the previous instalments on other Nintendo consoles. After expecting something sub-standard and lazy, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised.Mario Tennis Ultra Smash is colourful, entertaining and well thought out. The only thing missing is the tournament option, but there are other options that make up for it. The main addition is the Mega Mushroom which enlarges your character when you play. Should your opponent attain one, the game does become somewhat more challenging and there is a certain level of strategy you must employ in order to ensure your victory.Should the Mega Mushroom not appeal to you, you can play in classic tennis mode. There are several badges, courts and power ups that can be achieved through earning coins or completing tasks. The more you play, the more you can unlock, giving the game the feel of achievement it lacks without the tournament mode.It won't keep you hooked forever but it is good fun and the gameplay is excellent, and you do need a certain level of strategy to advance. I enjoy it, it's something I can stick on without having to worry about needing to be glued to the TV for ages. A tournament option would however, make the game more complete.

A surprising hit here this Christmas the kids were naturals at this they picked it up without any help, at all. I do think the roster could be better (after seeing the players in smash bros they've had) but i'm not the one playing it.The kids love the mega Mushroom matches and the ones with the ball as it's slower they all have a chance to win and they do all get a win and are not too put out by loosing in it. the courts are good too quite easy to unlock once you've played a bit of it ..only 4 un-lockable players sadly i think this is a let down as we've unlocked it all within a month.Amiibos are available online too but stick to main Mario cast to be sure they work (like Peach,Rosalina Toad,Yoshi,Mario etc) to use and as with Smash Bros they read/write on this game compared to say Yoshi Wolly World or Mario Kart that just have player suits in this game the Amiibo can learn up and be a doubles partner for a child wanting to go the doubles route on their own* (parents) U can use the same Amiibo again on other games once cleared off in WiiU options if needed.

Well, after all the bad reviews i picked up this game pretty cheap, well, cheap for a nintendo game that are always over priced, and to be honest i think its great, people moan about it not having a tournament mode etc, i say good, tournament modes are boring, playing AI is boring, this game is great because you can play other people online and online is where its at!The game has a lot of depth in the fact there are many types of shots and techniques to master to beat some of the better players online and you can play doubles online too. What this game lacks in content (according top some people) it more than makes up for in playability. Most of your favorite characters are there, the graphics look great and it easily kills an hour to two just having a few online games. Great fun!

Just a quick review here , the bottom line is its no way near as good as Mario Tennis on the GameCube , that was a great tennis game ,but this at £17.80 is priced about right , so for that reason if you want a good tennis game to play with mates then this is it , great fun.as a solo player , its ok , but try and get yourself a second hand gamecube and Mario Tennis for that machine , What a great game

Mario and friends return for another foray into the world of tennis. Unfortunately the mode selection is very bare bones but as with previous titles in the series the gameplay carries the game. As long as you have some friends or don't mind playing randoms online anyone from a casual tennis fan to a tennis pro could find enjoyment in this title.

This game is the peak of tennis games. From the simplest gameplay to the almost professional gameplay we can try a lot of variations. You can play alone against the console and choose the multiplayer mode. This game is also a must for Nintendo-Mario fans! I recommend buying !. This game can't be just five stars!
