Please see my review for Hunter wellies as everything about their transformative qualities applies to that of my Le Creuset pan. Suddenly the world is a better place. With my beautiful blue pan upon the hob, the sun shines that little bit brighter. The everyday worries and niggles dissipate and suddenly I am transported to an ochre farmhouse in Provence. As I heave my pan off (it is quite heavy) I imagine I am gazing out across the endless lavender fields as they sway gently in the breeze, listening to the laughter of my beautiful children, as they come bustling into my kitchen, laden with baguettes and possibly an array of cold meats. The sun is blazing and I feel a deep-seated contentment, not previously experienced prior to the arrival of my pan. Oh, how I love my pan.I've also made some great panini with it too (and yes, 'panini' is the correct plural for more than one 'panino', not 'paninis' as I so frequently see. This does fray my nerves somewhat but of course, or 'naturellement' as we say here in Provence, I no longer worry about such trifling minutiae now that I have my Le Creuset pan.) Oh how my panini have been transformed by toasting them in my pan. A dab of olive oil (preferably from the local Tuscan 'mercato' - we're in Italy now - sold to you by a swarthy velvet-voiced Italian with a wicked glint in his eye and a lingering brush of fingers as he hands it over), wiped over the surface with a bit of kitchen towel and left for a few minutes, and hey presto, your panino is finito and perfetto! Any guest will look at you with a new air of respect. Those lines mean quality. Not for you the run-of-the-mill toasted ham and cheese toastie. Oh no. Those lines say that you're a woman who knows what she's doing, you're a woman who matters. But more importantly, THEY matter (your guests. Keep up.) You know what you want and you're prepared to go and get it.Go on, just buy one. They are lovely lovely lovely! I certainly don't regret buying it (je ne regrette rien). You too could be pirouetting around the kitchen in no time. (Unless you can't afford it. In which case go for a cheaper one then. You shouldn't even be looking at this, too much temptation.)

I was given one of these as a present and it has rapidly become a kitchen essential. I use it for all meat cooking, reserving my frying pan for delicate fish, rissotto and stir fry (I really should get a wok!). It is also great for grilling vegetables. As with the entire Le Creuset cast iron range, it is seriously heavy and you will find yourself using the lifting tab that is opposite the handle. But that heaviness delivers consistent heat and you can rely on the entire cooking surface being an even temperature. The interior is black enamel with ridges to give the char lines that are essential on a tuna steak. Fat will collect in the bottom and with very fatty foods, like sausages, you might need to pour away some fat part-way through the cooking. The lips on either side make this very easy.Less fatty food will stick to the ridges slightly and if you are used to cleaning a non-stick fry pan by running it under the tap, wiping it with a sponge once and then drying, you need to be ready for a bit more work - both to get bits off the ridges and to pry stuff out of the troughs. But it is pretty simple - leave it to soak in warm soapy water for 15 minutes then scrub lightly with a pot brush and everything will lift off. It is also dishwasher safe, but I never put pans (or knives) in the dishwasher whatever the manufacturer says, so I can't vouch for that.If my house burned down and I had to restock my kitchen from scratch, this would be one of the cookware essentials near the top of the list - it makes for low-fat cooking of fatty foods without the hassle of using a grill, sears beautifully and looks great left on the hob, with a great range of colours to choose from. One final tip - shop around. There is always someone somewhere running a special offer on Le Creuset.Five stars.

Capable of everything including frying, grilling, frying, barbecuing, and baking without losing its new quality, this cookware is a useful thing to have in your kitchen. Le Creuset has gained a lot of popularity over the last few years, being sold in all the quality big name stores such as John Lewis, Lakeland, etc. There is a reason for this. Their products are one of the best that you can get without going to specialist chef's kitchenware retailers. This skillet - or grillit as it calls itself - is great for preparing anything in. I bought mine for my girlfriend for Christmas after she requested a generic one. I thought I would get her a decent one, but when it arrived she nearly dropped it due to the sheer weight. This is the one bad point about it. The cast iron material makes this almost as heavy as lead, and if you've got weak hands or wrists like my girlfriend, then you may struggle not to drop it. Never a good thing to drop when you have it full of boiling oil!Yet despite this, I love this pan. Its attractive colouring makes it stand out to guests, and the sheer quality of the build means that if you treat it well, you will get a lifetime of usage out of it. This is the last grillit that most cooks will ever need. It is a little pricey for some people, but those are the people who will buy several replacement grillit pans over their lifetime - ultimately spending more on the replacements than the Le Creuset costs.A definite addition for all wannabe chef's kitchens.

I have owned one of these Le Creuset Cast Iron grill pans for 3 years -and am delighted with it. I've used mine fairly heavily, mainly for steaks but also bruschetta, seared aubergines and zucchini, with great results. The weight of this pan is very striking -the average person would need two hands to lift it securely without straining the wrists unduly. This is especially important when it is hot -and the handle (all metal) can get hot, so it's worth using oven gloves for handling in use.The surface needs little looking after. Being a lazy beast I always stick mine in the dishwasher, and it cleans well. The lining changes to a matt appearance after a while (they do warn you about this in the instructions)but it works just as well. The enamel outer is as tough as nails and has remained looking glossy and smart all this time,I have now bought one of these as a Christmas present and am very confident it will last for ages.UPDATE MARCH 2015Over three years on from the last review after 6 years, my original pan is still going strong. This trusted friend has done me proud and although its looks now reflect its hard working life, it chargrills courgettes, bruschetta or steak with equal aplomb. I had better make provision for this in my Will, as it will certainly outlast me by miles! The glossy outer is still as beautiful as high-end lip gloss.Highly recommended,AA

I wish I had bought one of these years ago - it was a revelation. You wouldn't think it would be that different from using a frying pan or a grill, but it is. The only thing that cooks a steak better, for me, is a wood-fired barbecue...I am using it on an induction hob - turn it up to max and wait for the skillet to start smoking, then turn it down one notch. A key point is that you oil the meat, not the pan. just drop the steak or whatever on the ribs and leave it without interference for a few minutes. The bits in contact with the ribs get well-seared, but the bits inbetween actually get cooked by radiated heat, just as they would under a grill.Just as good for things like slices of courgette and aubergine,or asparagus. And I find the square shape works better than a round pan if you are laying out several pieces. I haven't found a problem with the handle getting too hot - just use a cloth or a silicone mit if you must - but most of the time you just don't need to move the pan - there's no need for lifting and shaking as you would with a frying pan.

This griddle is brilliant. I enjoy using it several timesa week. What I have discovered since owning it is:Is is not necessary to season it, (written in Le Creuset's care guide)as the special interior enamel coating does not require it.The best way I have found to clean it is; let it cool whilstyou eat your meal, then add a dash of washing up liquid andfill with hot water.Leave it to soak, 30 minutes, then using a normal dish cloth(not a scrubby one) the residue comes away easily. If it doesn't, just leave for up to two hours, you'll findthe griddle cleans up wonderfully without risking a scratchedbottom. If the surface does end up ruined through improper care, thenyou would have to treat it the same way as untreated cast ironby seasoning it.I highly recommend this griddleOne final note,If the meat your going to cook is of uneven thickness, use ameat tenderiser to even it out. I purchased this one, which isgreat

I love the 'Le Creuset' range and this was one of the items I have always wanted to have in my collection :) Firstly the price was brilliant and it happened to be the colour I collect :) I used it last night for the first time when cooking some lovely lamb steaks from 'Pipers Farm butchers' (the best) and they were truly cooked to perfection! It cooks so evenly and so much better than when using an ordinary frying pan. This grill pan is very heavy, but all 'Le Creuset' is and that is what makes it so unique :) I have it on top of the hob, as with it being quite heavy to constantly be putting away and then getting out again.....I will be using this a lot!Delivery was very fast, even with the Easter bank-holiday! I'm a very happy customer and I love it!

An even healthier way to cook and that sturdy ribbed base does indeed give those char-lines which not only help to enhance that mouth-watering aroma whilst cooking, but the ultimate flavour on the plate! The grooves between the 'ribs' collect the fat, not the food, and the excess can be drained away easily via the pouring lips on either side, making this item also suitable for left or right handed cooks.I use mine mainly for fillet steak, but I have recently, and successfully, tried the super recipes:'Coriander Lime Chicken' & 'Grilled Tropical Fruit (with Raspberry Sauce)', from the book entitled,

I really like Le Creuset products, the quality is superb. I like to eat healthy food and I was looking for a non sticky grill pan. This is amazing. Due to the material - enamelled cast iron - it weights about 1 kg (you have to be careful to handle it as it may fall). I can cook vegetables and meat with very little olive oil. It is extremely versatile as I can cook also casseroles. The handle gets hot whilst cooking so I have to use something to protect my hand from the heath. Easy to clean it is guaranteed for a lifetime. Strongly recommended, great purchase.

Very happy with this pan, cooked/grilled/stir-fried a variety of dishes during the last two weeks and had no problems at all. Heat seems to be evenly spread and best of all is being able to use it for gratins in the oven, too.Cleaning was easy, too, soaked it with warm water and some washing-up liquid and everything came off quite easily. As others have already mentioned, it is very heavy and it takes some days of getting used to it, but after that it was no problem handling it, not even with the hot handle.

Worth every penny, just read the instruction book that comes with it before giving a low review, cook like it says and wash it like it says. This will outlive me. Weighs an absolute ton, I was a chef in a chain restaurant and this is as good to use as the proper grill we had. Buy the handle cover though, or you will burn your hand at some point! Washes really easily in just hot water, if you do it properly. I wish I could afford more Le Creuset products, they ooze quality.

For perfect steaks, gammon and chops, there really is nothing that matches this 'Le Creuset Grillit'It is particularly heavy which stops it moving around the stove top. It also retains the heat fantastically once heated helping to first sear the meat before cooking it.The only downside to this 'Grillit' is when being used the handle gets REALLY hot. A little cover can be bought from Le Creuset.Personally i think this is a great product.

This pan has made me want to cook!I can now grill and have the best steaks all year round, no oil is needed, as the meat will release itself when it's done. The pan is quite heavy, and can be difficult to move around with food on it with only one hand. The handle also gets really hot when cooking, so remember to use a glove or oven mitt.Overall I do not regret getting it, and it looks and feels like it will last for many years.

11.4.2011

Le Creuset is fantastic! I love this pan. It's easier to use and clean than my George Foreman and was more convenient than firing up the grill outside. My only complaint is that it's a pain to clean; I always have to soak it and scrub it raw and I still can't really get all the burnt bits off. But then again, it probably gets more flavour by having some of the old meat juices baked into it.

23.11.2012

No question this pan gets HOT. However, I find the grooves a little too deep for my cooking style and it means steaks do not get the same dark colour as they used to get with my cheaper griddle. I'm still learning to adapt, but right now it's not the killer pan I was hoping for. Nonetheless, no regrets. I purchased this with a handle sleeve to avoid welding the pan to my skin.
