This came so close to getting 5 stars.I’ve been thinking of trying the overnight oats idea for ages, as I’m always looking for ideas for healthy but filling and energy boosting lunches at work. The things I love about this are1) the styling.... it looks very smart2) the addition of the spoon, secured by a silicone band around the jar3) the markings in the glass for mls/ fl.oz.4) the convenience of being able to set this up at home, and securely transport it to work the next day, ready with spoon for when I need it5) the helpful addition of some recipe ideas to get you started because I’m used to making porridge with milk, didn’t realise that this is done with yoghurt, and I love fat-free yoghurt. Also that you don’t necessarily have to mix the oats with the yoghurt but can layer it - oats, yoghurt, fruit, repeat..... getting that lovely appealing layered look that encourages you that you’re about to eat something really yummy and not just healthy!6) the versatility of the jar, as well as this healthy porridge idea, which I will undoubtably get bored with at some point, you can also use this jar for soups, and minus the lid, it can be microwaved. The negatives..... the inner metal disc of the lid which is the part that can’t be put in the dishwasher ( the whole lid, that is) has sharp edges so needs care hand washing,And secondly, the lid is advertised as being a handy 50g measure for your oats, and while on the face of it, that sounds great, because there is no sort of pouring lip/spout, it can get quite messy trying to pour the oats from the lid into the jar.All in all though, I very much love it !

I eat breakfast at work a lot of the time (because Id rather have the extra 20 minutes in bed!) but its usually just shredded wheat which gets a bit boring. When I got the chance to try this, I thought it might give me a bit of breakfast variety so gave it a go.The jar is unexpectedly large and chunky, with robust glass that should be perfectly safe in your bag, without worrying about it smashing; and has a silicone ring securely gripping a spoon, so as long as you keep them together, you should always be able to eat it wherever you are. The lid is a double capture, with a sealing flat inner lid that you pop on before screwing on the outer lid.To use it,just make up a pot of raw oats and milk or yogurt the night before and leave it in the fridge, where the oats soak up the liquid and make a sort of thick cold porridge - might sound gross but is actually really nice! You can also add various fruit and nuts to it to make it more interesting. It works really well, is easy to clean and easy to transport - but after about 4 days the lid got so banged up in my backpack that it sometimes took a few minutes to screw it on properly. And theres not really anything in there that would obviously damage it, so I can only assume its really thin metal. That aside, and if you can either transport it in your hand/ the cupholder of your car, or secure it or wrap it in a teatowel before putting it in your bag, I would recommend it as a way to get a more interesting, healthy breakfast on the go

I’d not tried overnight oats before getting this and was a bit sceptical about whether this jar was a necessary item but I’ve actually been quite impressed. It comes with a few recipes but we checked the internet and kept it simple with mixing porridge oats with vanilla yogurt and piling blueberries on top.The lid apparently works as a measure for oats so been using that but it’s a little messy. There’s an extra flat seal lid that goes on first and I guess keeps any smells from the fridge out but you need to hand wash this. It has a design flaw in that it has quite a sharp edge and I cut my thumb on it while washing it. The rest can go in the dishwasher. The oats are delicious and a really easy filling start to the day.I don’t take my breakfast to work but would imagine the spoon would fall off in transit and I’d be a bit worried about breaking it. For home though it suits me great and lovely to eat of. Holds a good amount for decent breakfast. The spoon on the side is a bit of an unnecessary gimmick but the jar is lovey quality and attractive. I am thinking of buying another one as my son has gone mad for overnight oats too so we are having to take it turns to have them. Will be fab to know that has had a healthy filling breakfast before school.

As you'd expect from Kilner, this is a sturdy, reliable, well-made product. The measuring marks on the side are moulded into the glass, so they’re easy to see and feel, and give added grip as a side effect. There’s an inner sealing lid which the main lid presses down on, so is pretty much water tight. It also means there is space in the lid for a tiny extra bit of storage- but not really enough for a little bag of crunchy granola to use as topping, or suchlike.Although it’s not meant for soup, it might be quite suitable, the glass being microwaveable. The lid has approx 120ml capacity, and isn't dishwasher safe. The spoon is a good size- a bit larger than a teaspoon but smaller than a dessert spoon, and it’s good quality as well, by Viners. This does seem like a bit of a niche product, for single portion breakfast pots, but I think it'll be flexibly used for all sorts of kitchen jobs in our house. The spoon holder ring is removable, so you have the option of just using it as a jar as well, which can make for easier packing. The recipes included are based on instant oats 'soaked' overnight and are pretty delicious, if rather unhealthy. Simply leave out the naughty ingredients for a more virtuous version- still super tasty.

I often prefer to have my breakfast oats cold with fruit and yoghurt rather than made up into porridge, and this is a convenient and portable way to do it - ideal if you're one of those people who likes to take their breakfast to work (or eat it on the train/bus!)It's a sturdy kilner jar, a little big to hold one portion perhaps, but the lid handily measures out a 50g portion of oats and you can then layer that up the night before with milk, fruit, spices (I like cinnamon), yogurt, seeds or whatever takes your fancy. Overnight in the fridge it all turns into a refreshing and nutritious gloop which you can eat with the supplied long-handled spoon, which snaps into a special holder attached to the lid.You can even make a kind of instant cheesecake in it! (See recipe on the Amazon page). The jar is marked out like a measuring jug so you can see how much you're eating and being a Kilner jar, of course it's totally airtight. Yes, I suppose you could do all the same things in a large jam jar, but this is extra-sturdy, looks attractive and is easy and convenient to use, and all its parts are dishwasher safe. What's not to like?

If I want muesli for breakfast then soaking it over night is the way to go.I have eaten this kind of breakfast on and off for decades and have done so without the need for a special jar.So what is the advantage in this?Simple, if you want to eat this way but don’t have time before you leave home home you can easily take it with you.For taking breakfast out this is very helpful. Just fill the jar as per instructions with fruits and oats, whatever mix you fancy and then leave soaking in milk, water, apple juice, almond milk what ever you like.By the morning you and the jar are good to go.the lid keeps it all intact and the spoon is a good point. However if you are not going to eat on the run or at work then you don’t need this.I like the product.I like the Kilner jar and the silver spoon. I like the rubber ring around the top which has a holder for the spoon.I like that it encourages me to see this as a way to eat out for breakfast which is good because I can’t eat anything until I have been up for a couple of hours. Saves money on buying food out!

My health-kick means I'm trying to get into Bricher muesli (heavens help me), and this jar is designed for exactly that kind of thing, to take to work. It looks great. Kind of retro stylish. Having a purpose built thing is motivating to stick to the diet plan. I haven't had any problems slicing myself with the sealing insert as others have. If I'm critical then if anything it's a little on the large size for a standard portion - the temptation is there to overfill, but if you have the discipline you can put in the standard amount and fill up with some grapes or something. Unsure if it is officially dishwasher safe (I don't think it is!) - but I'm ignoring that, and so far it has gone through a few times without issue. Will update the review if it comes to any serious harm. Obviously this is a totally unnecessary thing you don't need in your life , but if you are trying to be a bit healthier, then this is made for a specific job, it does it well, it looks good, and having it may give you a gentle nudge to eat better. Time will tell.

I've never had a proper mason jar before but have long fancied the idea of overnight oats. Not that I couldn't do it in an ordinary tub, but this is all about convenience and aesthetics. I love how the lid gives you just the right measurement and that there are marked measures down the side of the jar so you know exactly what you are eating when watching your portion size. The jar looks very cute too. The seal works very well, so there is no spillage if it tips on it's side in your bag. The spoon is really excellent quality. Much nicer than any other spoons I own. Really weighty and nicely balanced, I like how it is kept handy on the side of the jar. Makes it very pleasurable to use. .The little leaflet with some recipe suggestions gets you started but there are plenty of recipes on the internet. A really nice wee set.

This breakfast jar is perfect for eating your cereal away from your dining table. It's ideal for me to eat at my desk at work as it's much less easy to spill than a normal cereal bowl, even without the lid on. Similarly, if I want to use it at home to catch up on the TV news before heading off in the morning it's perfect! It's really easy to hold and is quite chunky so doesn't seem at all fragile, even though it's made of (thick) glass.I eat a "generous" portion of cereal, but this holds far more than I would normally have. Because it's much thinner than a cereal bowl you can fool yourself into thinking a small portion is more than it actually is (the same reason expensive drinks come in such think bottles). It comes with a spoon, not an essential for me, but a nice extra.A simple idea but well executed.

I make a lot of overnight oats - it's my preferred breakfast, which I make in the evening and grab to take to work with me in the morning. I don't wake up hungry, so these are great, as I can tuck in during my mid-morning break, when my stomach has woken up enough for food! This jar is beautiful and the idea is a brilliant one - perfect for someone like me. Sadly, the spoon and the rubber grip for the spoon don't feel made for one another. The spoon is weighty - a lovely Viners spoon, but because of its weight, it sits rather precariously in the grip and falls out sometimes even when just still on the counter - so on the move, you know it will fall out 9 times out of 10. I will use the jar and I will use the spoon, but I won't rely on the grip to keep them together!

This looks good and I think you're paying for both the Kilner and Viners brand names in the price. It's a heavy item and though it works pretty well, it's far too heavy empty, to transport to work, and even more so when overnight oats or other contents are added. On the plus side, my husband loves this as he can see exactly what he's concocting and the food does come out as expected, with no drying out. On the minus side, the lid isn't leak proof, and this does need to be held upright if you're transporting it, and as a precaution, I'd suggest putting it in a leak-proof bag.Slightly more style than substance overall.Update 15/09/18 - the lid has rusted where the inner press plate rests, after being left to drain overnight. Not impressive.

I absolutely love my overnight oats - porridge oats mixed in with yoghurt and left overnight to soak - as they're delicious and great for breakfast, and you can add whatever you like to it too! So this is perfect and I'd give it a million stars if I could - it's dishwasher safe, and the jar itself is weighty and heavy and comes with a fancy spoon that attaches to the side. The lid actually doubles as a porridge oats measure! Clever! Everything is safe for the dishwasher and it looks amazing when it's filled with overnight oats, great for travel too! (Although it is glass so be careful!) As a total fan of overnight oats, this would be a great gift for fellow fans! Love it!

Overnight oats seem to be the popular breakfast at the moment and these kilner jars are being marketed as the ideal product to use.The jars are good quality, a thick glass walled jar and the lid is attached (meaning no searching through a cupboard to find a lid like is a regular occurrence with Tupperware). There is also a spoon attached which means that everything can be got ready the night before and then it is a pick up and go in the morning on the way out the door. However my only downside is that the jar is an awkward shape to store in a cupboard and when space is at a minimum it is difficult. I also found that it leaked slightly when laid on its side.

A very convenient way to ferment my Sauerkraut as no more messy overflow I hope.Do take into account the quantity of ingredients you will need to fill to neck of jar though. I found I needed 4 good sized red cabbage hearts ,5 medium beetroots a large bunch baby new carrots, 3 medium onions ,a couple inches raw ginger for my Sauerkraut to just get up to the neck so its a fair good amount. Remember when you massage the veg you only end up with not even half when it springs water ! The stones supplied with this set are excellent fit but I still needed more weight to keep the veg under the liquid so I used 2 glass ones I had as well & then it was perfect.

Never seen one of these before but as a solution for a snack on the move it seems quite interesting. The jar is made out of glass so no boiling water (caution in user manual) and of course glass can smash. The lid of the jar is a 50g measure and the jar is also marked up in fl-oz and ml.The inner sealed lid had a bit of a sharp edge so be careful how you handle that. The instruction leaflet includes three oats based recipes to try and it comes complete with spoon in a nice presentation box.A sticky label is also provided I guess so you can identify your jar.The lid only screws on about 1/4 of a turn so make sure it is done up tight.
