I know, this is an older color, but from what I can see, its design hasn't changed. I came from very light ski touring bags which are almost half the weight of this bag. But my shoulders were sore and my pits chaffed from the torso harness of these other bags. Gregory's Targhee not only feels nice every time I put it on, after several seasons of touring, it loads everything I need it to and carries it well. Whether for day outings or multi-day, with smart packing this bag can carry it. My most recent heavy load was 35 pounds and it not only carried comfortably, the ski out was very comfortable as well. The pack keeps the load close to the body and makes it easy to keep balance.Other's have mentioned it being the ultimate ski-mountaineering bag,and I agree. Normal ski gear goes in, plus helmet, ice axe, crampons, ski crampons, water, stove, food, avalanche gear, everything you need. Also, I use the hydration sleeve with an insulated hose, and it has to be 0 degrees F to freeze it. The hipbelt pocket is easy to zip closed. The left hipbelt gear loop is perfect for attaching on-and-off gear like ski crampons or ice tools. This bag is very well thought out and extremely good value. Although it may be heavier than other "ultralight" packs, the comfort you get from a bag like this reminds me of a former bag maker. And this isn't that heavy. A couple things I would like to see done with this bag: 1. a good place to mount a walkie talkie radio, or radio mic (such as the BCA link radio) on the shoulder, a channel for the mic cord, and a place for the body of the radio inside the bag; and 2. The top-of-bag cinch closure (above the drawstring) shouldn't be a buckle, but a alloy hook and loop that other bag companies are using. The plastic buckles are prone to clogging with snow/ice or breaking. All that being stated, I have yet to find a bag that compares in any way. Thank you Gregory and crew for stepping it up and bringing a truly useful bag to the ski world.

I absolutely love this pack, so far I have taken it on ~10 backcountry trips and it has done everything I could've asked for. On the first time I took it on a trip I was carrying my water bottle on its side under the brain of the pack I forgot to tighten the cap all the way resulting in a slow leak. When I got to the top of the climb I noticed that there was a layer of ice going from the bottle all the way down to my boots. Everything in the pack stayed dry. Another thing I love about this pack is that I can fit everything I need for a full day of backcountry skiing including an ice axe, first aid kit, and crampons and still have room to fit a Tupperware with my lunch and my helmet on the inside. The only thing that I foresee being an issue is the fact the the brain of the pack, when fully synched down (i.e. not carrying rope or a helmet under it) covers the top part of the avy tool compartment zipper. So if you want to access your avy tools it is just one more thing to undo in that situation. This, however, is not a deal breaker for me because the buckles you would have to undo are very glove/mitten friendly. Otherwise the pack is great! A-frame ski carry is super intuitive and burly and the ice axe holder is the same although I would recommend getting an ice axe tip/adze cover because it could see the fabric getting easily worn over time if your axe is super sharp. I'm also very happy with the water bladder hose routing, my other pack made it very hard to open the zippered access panel when there was a bladder hose. The zippered shoulder compartment for the nozzle kept the hose from freezing in mid-teen temps (F) when I was climbing and drinking fairly frequently but when we summited and I wasn't drinking as regularly the hose froze. Otherwise this pack is superb!

Just did a 3000’ vertical climb with the pack fully loaded with my winter camping gear, 40+ pounds, had no issues with the pack. It holds snug to my back and doesnt move around at all, even tho it was a heavy load i didnt have any pressure points, very comfortable the entire time. Im taking this pack to shasta and mt baker for ski descents this spring and im not worried at all about its performance. It fits my splitboard on the back carry and a-frame carry no problem, this is the reason why i chose this pack over many others because of the back snowboard carry and the avy tools pocket. After buying this pack im going to be looking hard at the other packs they offer when it comes time to fill the need of the next adventure.Quality and thoughtfullness is top notch.

I have owned a Targhee 45 for 4 years and it is still the best back I own. Mine did not include external helmet carry but that has since been added so I feel it has every feature you could want. By far the most comfortable pack I have ever had for either climbing or skiing. Still in perfect condition after 4 seasons. The only damage has been a broken chest strap buckle, which Gregory replaced. Would buy the new version but this one refuses to wear out. I'm hoping Gregory makes an airbag pack - I would definitely buy it.

Bought this bag at the start of this winter, has all the features and is incredibly lightweight. Not clunky, stays slim/low profile even when loaded up. Compacts to be pretty small if you aren’t headed out with a bunch of gear which is great. Only thing I wish the top fold over pocket had a soft goggle liner but no big deal there. Hoping it lasts a while!

The Targhee 45 is a great pack for a full-length day mission in the backcountry. When you want to make sure you have room for what you need, you know you'll have it. I enjoy not having to feel cramped and able to bring as much as I need throughout the day. One of the nicest aspects of this pack is how light it is considering its size.

Searching for a pack that'll handle anything i throw at it in the back country...and this is the one. never have to worry about packing too much because itll all fit, while it synches tight for those short days with less gear. sturdy all around and handles my fat powder skis no problem.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The attention to detail, durability and comfort of this bag has been far superior when compared to my Osprey - in the same size/capacity. Lookin forward to many great adventures with this upgrade!

Design, features, size and materials are excellent for long and multi-day backcountry touring and ski patrolling. This pack would probably also work well for non-winter hiking.
